Arthur Hawkins

Died: Saturday, May 11, 2013

Arthur J. Hawkins Sr., 66, a longtime community resident, died May 11. He was born icon April 6, 1947, in Port Jefferson, the son of James and Marie Hawkins.

He was a retired custodian engineer for the Three Village school district, and a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his sons, Arthur Jr., John, William and Richard, along with many other family and friends.

Services were held at the funeral home on May 16. Mr. Hawkins was afforded full military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Home of Setauket.

Patricia Irizarry

Died: Saturday, May 11, 2013

Patricia A. Irizarry, 73, of East Setauket, died May 11. She was born icon Nov. 22, 1939, in the Bronx, the daughter of Walter and Margaret Quinn.

She was a retired clerical for the Carco Group.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Finelli, Jill Gladieux and Natalie Trentadue, along with many other family and friends.

Committal services were private.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Home of Setauket.

Camille Ciaburri

Died: Friday, May 10, 2013

Camille Ciaburri, 92, of Smithtown, died on May 10. She was the wife of the late Guido; beloved mother of Cynthia Del Mastro, Deborah Higginson, and Mark; loving sister of Anthony Bene; also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 14, at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Smithtown, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Hawkins and Davis Funeral Home of Smithtown.

Melanie Wersan

Died: Friday, May 10, 2013

Melanie Wersan of Mount Sinai died on May 10 in her 21st year. She was the beloved daughter of Barbara and the late Richard; loving sister of Richard, Brittany and Bailee.

Cremation private at Nassau-Suffolk Crematory, Lake Ronkonkoma. Arrangements were made by Moloney’s Lake Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 132 Ronkonkoma Ave., Lake Ronkonkoma.

Family owned and operated.

Sylvia Kogel

Died: Thursday, May 09, 2013

Sylvia Kogel, 93, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away on May 9.

Born in Brooklyn, she graduated from Tilden High School and began her career as one of the many “Rosie the Riveters” during World War II. In 1942, she and Gustav Kogel were married icon in Biloxi, Miss. When her husband returned from the war, she was part of the family’s building materials business. She was also a licensed interior designer. Very active with the North Shore Jewish Center, Sylvia was instrumental in the creation of the Long Island Cultural Center, serving as its president for several years. She enjoyed cruising the world and spending time with her family. In later years, she became the “resident poet” at Tuscany at McCormick Ranch, where she lived.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Gustav; and grandson, David. She is survived by her daughters; Iris (Bob) Chapman, and Randy (Stan) Zucker; grandchildren Matthew, Michael and Gabrielle; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Jordan, Kamryn, David and Jackson.

Graveside services were held May 15 at Washington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Gustav Kogel Scholarship Fund at the North Shore Jewish Center, 385 Old Town Rd., Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.

Florence Matthews

Died: Thursday, May 09, 2013

Florence Matthews of Mount Sinai, died on May 9 in her 96th year. She was the beloved wife of the late James; devoted mother of Florence Schretzman, Theresa (William) Wright and Virginia (Peter) Toscano; loving sister of Richard Lore and Emil Lore; cherished grandmother of Lori Henderson, Nicholas Toscano, Christopher Toscano, the late William Schretzman, the late Wayne Wright; and great-grandmother of Abigail Toscano, Collin Toscano, Mackenzie Toscano, Casey Wright, Christina Schretzman, Ryan Schretzman, John Schretzman, Matthew Henderson and Amanda Henderson.

Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram. Arrangements were made by Moloney’s Holbrook Funeral Home, 825 Main St., Holbrook. Family owned and operated.

Vincent Cullen

Died: Thursday, May 09, 2013

Vincent D. Cullen, of East Setauket, died on May 9 in his 62nd year. He was the beloved husband of Jill; loving father of Anne, Vincent, Elisabeth and Vanna; devoted son of Annamarie Cullen and the late Vincent; and brother of Regina Kiely, Janice Moore, Timothy, Kevin, Lee Romano, James, Michael, John, Raymond, Patrick and the late Anne.

Interment was held at St. James Cemetery, Setauket.

Donations may be made to Cullen’s Crusaders, 1650 Route 112, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.

Arrangements were made by Moloney’s Port Jefferson Station Funeral Home.

Dewey Wambsganss

Died: Wednesday, May 08, 2013

Dewey J. Wambsganss, formerly of Old Field South, passed away peacefully on May 8, in Allen, Texas. Proceeded in death by his wife, Jeanette, and daughter, Tina, he is survived by his daughters, Karen Pakula, Holly Derrick and Jillian Bowen; a son, Chip Wambsganss; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Military funeral honors will be held June 8, at 11 am at St. James R.C. Church in Setauket.

Phil Mingola

Died: Wednesday, May 08, 2013

Phil Mingola, 71, of Selden, died on May 8.

He was the loving father of Laurie (David), Dawn Mariel Mingola and the late Phillip; cherished grandfather of eight; dear brother of Maria Murray and Millie (Tony) Faria. He is survived by many other family members and friends.

A religious service was celebrated at the funeral home. Cremation was private.

Arrangements entrusted to the Branch Funeral Home of Smithtown and the Vigliante family.

James P. Gaffney

Died: Wednesday, May 08, 2013
Age: 78

James P. Gaffney, 78, of Stony Brook, died May 8. He was born icon Dec. 8, 1934, in Manhattan, the son of James and Alice Gaffney.

James was a retired police officer for NYC Transit. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd degree and the Emerald Society. He enjoyed planting, and was an avid sports fan who loved the Mets, Jets and Notre Dame. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

James is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Peggy and Kerry; son, Joe; seven grandchildren; and sister, Mary; along with many other family and friends.

Services were held at St. James R.C. Church on May 10, with Father Peter O’Rourke officiating. Mr. Gaffney was afforded full military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.

Contributions made to the L.I. State Veterans Home 100 Patriots Rd, Stony Brook, NY 11790 would be appreciated.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Home of Setauket.

Eugene Vorrasi Jr.

Died: Monday, May 06, 2013

Eugene “Angelo” Vorrasi Jr., 77 of Commack, died on May 6.

He was the beloved husband of Margaret “Marge”; devoted father of Mitchell (Robin), Mark (Roseann), Tammy (Francesco) and the late Gene “Blue”; cherished brother of Anne (Charlie) Liotta and the late Lucy (Al) Piscitello.

He is survived by many other family members and friends.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Smithtown. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Louise Ronzetti

Died: Sunday, May 05, 2013

Louis A. Ronzetti, of Wading River, and formerly of East Meadow, died at the age of 90, on May 5. He was the loving husband of Aurelia for 66 years; beloved father of Laura, Louis, Joan, Elizabeth and Peter; dear father-in-law of Edmund, Jay, Adam and Kelly; cherished grandfather of 11; and great-grandfather of 11. Louis was a decorated World War II veteran.

A funeral Mass was held at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Wading River. Interment with military honors followed at Arlington National Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the O.B. Davis Funeral Homes of Miller Place.

Robert Kurtz

Died: Sunday, May 05, 2013

Robert Kurtz, of Sound Beach, died on May 5. He was the beloved father of Robert (Theresa), Michael, Elizabeth Pugal (Richard) and James and Judith Rotunno (Jeffrey); and cherished grandfather of nine. He was a proud member of the Miller Place Fire Department.

A funeral service was held May 9, followed by interment at Sea View Cemetery in Mount Sinai.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center Fund Inc., P.O. Box 765, Smithtown, NY 11787.

Frank Lombardo

Died: Friday, May 03, 2013

Frank J. Lombardo of Ridge died on May 3. He was the beloved husband of the late Suzanne; loving father of John (Marilyn), Frank (Joan), Vincent, Ron and Jacqueline Grosso and the late Richard; cherished grandfather of 11; great-grandfather of four; and adored brother of Kay Clemente.

A funeral Mass was held May 8 at St. Mark’s R.C. Church, Shoreham. Interment followed at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale.
