Obituary: George "Shorty" Comins, age 80, of 342 Otsego St., Ilion, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.

He was born on May 7, 1926 in E. Frankfort, NY, the son of Theodore and Mabel (Conkling) Comins, and graduated from Ilion High School in 1943.

Shorty was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. On September 4, 1948, he was married to Mary Smallwood at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. He was the owner and operator of Shorty's Amoco, W. Main St., Ilion, from 1956 - 1962 and Shorty's Chevron, E. Main St., Ilion from 1962 - 1980. He was the sponsor and avid fan of the Shorty's Chevron slo-pitch softball team for many years. Shorty was a very active bowler in the Herkimer Major League. He was also the #1 fan of the Syracuse University Basketball Team.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; three sons, and daughters-in-law, William and Josephine Comins of Sayville, LI, NY, Thomas and Mary Comins of Ilion, James and Regan Comins of Fairpoint, NY; two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret and James Lehah of Jordan, NY, Kathleen Matthews of Stratton, Maine; 20 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; his sister, Alice of Ridgewood, NJ; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Ted.

Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, Pastor. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 27, 2007, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Anyone needing a ride to the calling hours or services may call the funeral home at 895-7722 for complimentary transportation assistance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Annunciation Memorial Fund. Special envelopes are available at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion.

Obituary: James T. “Tom” Riddell, age 60, of Sandy Lane Road, Mohawk, formerly of Ilion, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, with his loved ones by his side, following a long illness.

Tom was born on Nov. 3, 1946, in Ilion, son of the late James Albert and Ruth (Hathaway) Riddell. He attended Ilion schools. On Aug. 13, 1966, he was united in marriage to Roberta J. “Bobbie” Peltier at the Ilion United Methodist Church and they enjoyed a loving and devoted union of almost 41 years. Tom was last employed at MDS in Herkimer. At one time he worked for the Evening Times, Evening Telegram and as a bartender at Duffy's Tavern. He was a member of the Ilion Moose Lodge 1010, a Fellowship life member, a 25 year club member, Legion of the Moose, past Governor, administrator and steward. At one time he was a member of the Northside Athletic Club. Tom was active in the Boy Scouts obtaining the “Order of the Arrow,” and “Eagle Scout,” and served as Scout Master and on the commission. Tom was a ham radio operator and assisted in the sky warning program. He also enjoyed his computer, watching television, cooking, camping and was a football and baseball fan. At one time he was a member of the Starlighters, and Troubadours Drum and Bugle Corps, playing the bugle. Tom was known as a jokester and loved to pull pranks. His family meant everything to him, and Tom loved the family gatherings.

Survivors include his dedicated wife, Bobbi; two sisters, Joyce Gage of Ilion, Christine Brownrigg and her fiancé Joe Kalinowski, both of the town of Frankfort; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law James and Robert Waterfield of Florida, Joan McCumber of Mohawk, William Peltier and Karen Barile of Long Island; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews, many friends, and his beloved canine companion, Lady.

He was predeceased by his brother, Carlton Rank in 1943, his nephew, James Roy Gage in 1965, and his in-laws Robert and Mary Peltier.

Tom's funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2007, commencing at 7 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with theRev. Hans Drews officiating. Interment will take place later this spring in Mountain View Memorial Gardens at a date and time to be announced.

Family and friends are invited to visitation Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. The Ilion Moose Lodge will conduct their service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in Tom's memory to the charity of choice. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Obituary: ILION-Robert E. "Robbie" Foster, III, 28, of 141 West North St., Ilion, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 4, 2007, in Faxton/St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford, following a long illness. At the time of his passing he was surrounded with the love and support of his family.

Robbie was born on October 24, 1978 in Herkimer, son of Robert E. Foster, Jr., and Patricia (Rende) Foster, and graduated with Ilion High School, "Class of 1996". The most important part of Robbie's life was being surrounded by family and friends. His daughter Hayley was the light of his life and enjoyed and cherished every moment he spent with her. In his spare time he enjoyed playing video games and working on the computer.

Survivors include his loving family; his parents: Robert and Patricia of the home address; his cherished daughter: Hayley Foster and her mother Jennifer Caleo who is Robbie's close friend; his maternal grandmother: Nellie Cline of Ilion; a close sister: Lori Poehler and her daughters who were very close with Robbie, Makayla Latour and Desarae Fiato; several aunts, uncles, cousins and close family friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather: Joseph Rende, his maternal step-grandfather: Raymond Cline; paternal grandfather: Robert Foster and his paternal grandmother: Dorothy Foster.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., (Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort), 894-8000, on Friday, April 6, 2007 from 5-7 p.m.

His funeral will commence on Saturday morning, April 7, at 10 am from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Ilion, officiating. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.

Mrs. Dorotha Mae Fee, 97, of Le Roy died Monday, July 25, 2005.
Memorials may be made to the Sunshine Fund, Village Green Nursing Home, 10 Munson Street, Le Roy, NY 14482.

Robert G. Lowe, of Stafford died Saturday, July 30, 2005.

Raymond J. Longhany, of Lime Rock/Le Roy died Friday, July 29, 2005.
