Sister E. Kathryn Brown; was teacher at area schools
ALBANY - Sister E. Kathryn Brown, RSM, (Sister M. Ambrose) died Tuesday at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center after a long illness.
Born in Hudson, Sister Brown was a Sister of Mercy for 59 years.

For many years, she taught at various schools within the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese including St. Patrick's, St. Teresa's, Blessed Sacrament, St. Agnes in Cohoes and St. Mary's in Ballston Spa.

Survivors include a niece, Donna Garman of Stuyvesant.

A Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Convent of Mercy Chapel, 634 New Scotland Ave.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Convent of Mercy Chapel, where a service will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Contributions may be made to Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany.

Arrangements are by W.J. Lyons Funeral Home, Rensselaer.

Beatrice Murray
SCHENECTADY - Mrs. Beatrice A. Murray, 94, formerly of the Ten Eyck Apartments, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a brief illness.
Born and educated in Schenectady, Mrs. Murray was a lifelong city resident.

She was a night telephone operator at Ellis Hospital, retiring in 1966 with 25 years of service.

Mrs. Murray was the widow of Michael J. Murray.

Survivors include three sons, the Rev. James M. Murray of Peru, Ill., Leonard A. Murray of Crystal River, Fla., and Kenneth A. Murray of Slingerlands; a sister, Marie H. Wolcott of Schenectady; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The Liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 900 Madison Ave., Albany, with her son, the Rev. James M. Murray, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rensselaer County, 8 N. Lake Ave., Troy, NY 12180.

Arrangements are by the Light's Funeral Home.

Evelyn May Reith Owens
ALBANY - Mrs. Evelyn May Reith Owens, of Albany, died Tuesday.
Born in Albany, Mrs. Owens was a graduate of Albany High School.

At one time, she was a secretary for Wendell Cadillac.

In the early 1970s, Mrs. Owens worked for Flah's Attic.

After that, she worked for the state Department of Motor Vehicles until retiring in 1983.

Mrs. Owens was the widow of Thomas Martin Owens, whom she married in 1955.

Survivors include four daughters, Leslie Burnham of Averill Park, Lorene Burt of West Sand Lake, Andrea Saati of Haela, Israel, and Roberta Gallerie of Albany; a sister, Dorothy Bryson of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer.

Calling hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Entombment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Contributions may be made to the Children's Cancer Fund at Albany Medical Center, New Scotland Avenue, Albany 12208.

Hazel VanArnam
TROY - Mrs. Hazel Ryder VanArnam, of the Eddy Geriatric Center, Burdett Avenue, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.
Born and raised in Falconer, Mrs. VanArnam lived in Troy most of her life.

During World War II, she served as a registered nurse-physical therapist.

Later, Mrs. VanArnam worked for the New York State Department of Health.

She was a former member of the Ilium Literary Club and the Troy Women's Club.

Mrs. VanArnam was a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Eagle Mills.

She was the widow of Dudley P. VanArnam.

Survivors include a stepson, Bruce VanArnam of Morristown; and a stepdaughter, Cynthia Taylor of Titusville, Fla.

A service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Bryce Funeral Home, corner of Pawling Avenue at Maple Avenue, where a calling hour will begin at 10.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Jared Welch
MALTA - Private services will be held for Jared S. Welch, 51, of Route 9, who died Monday at home after a long illness.
Born in Brookline, Mass., Mr. Welch lived in Albany at one time and in the Saratoga area for the past 10 years.

Mr. Welch was the choir master at the Malta Ridge Methodist Church for several years.

Survivors include a brother, Chester Welch of Greenfield Center; and a sister, Julia Grace of New York City.

Arrangements are by the Schenectady Cremation Service, Schenectady.

Julia Benson
DUANESBURG - Mrs. Julia Rose Benson, 74, formerly of Birchwood Drive, and also of Schenectady, died Monday at the Trident Regional Medical in Charleston, S.C.
Born in Delanson, Mrs. Benson was a lifelong area resident until moving to South Carolina in 1990.

Mrs. Benson was a line machinist for several years for the Campbell Plastics Co. in Rotterdam before retiring.

She was a former member of the ladies auxiliary of the Schenectady Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Her husband, Earl Robert Lawrence Benson, died in 1976.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Robert Benson of N. Charleston, S.C., and David Charles Benson of Saratoga; a daughter, Karen B. Heupel of Moncks Corners, S.C.; a brother, Garland Rose of Schenectady; and a sister, Margie Manaikis of Schenectady.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Family Funeral Care, 40 N. Brandywine Ave., Schenectady. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be private.

Kayleah McGlynn
SCHENECTADY - Kayleah McGlynn, 10, of Roosevelt Avenue, died Tuesday at St. Clare's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Albany, Kayleah was a lifelong area resident. She attended Pinewoods School and the Cloverpatch Early Childhood Center for the Disabled.

She attended St. Luke's Church.

Survivors include her parents, Catherine Kelleher and Michael McGlynn, both of Schenectady; two brothers, Timothy and Devin McGlynn, both of Schenectady; two sisters, Tierney McGlynn and Kourtney Blessing, both of Schenectady; her maternal grandparents, Stephen and Maureen Kelleher of Schenectady; and her paternal grandparents, Frank and Theresa McGlynn of Watervliet.

The services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., and at 9:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Luke's Church.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304.

Lawrence A. Campbell Sr.
GUILDERLAND - Lawrence A. Campbell Sr., 91, of Church Road died Tuesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a brief illness.
Born in Guilderland, Mr. Campbell was a lifelong area resident.

He was a machine operator at the General Electric Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1968. He was also co-owner of Campbell's Gladiolus Gardens for several years.

Mr. Campbell was a member of the Mont Pleasant Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he served as past district deputy and was a life member. He was a member of the Dorpian Encampment IOOF, serving as past district deputy. Mr. Campbell was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, the Gladiolus Association and the Glendale Rebekah Lodge.

He was a member of Fisher Methodist Church.

His first wife, Olive Briton Campbell, died in 1932. His second wife, Anna Knizek Campbell, died in 1991.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence A. Campbell Jr. of Guilderland; a daughter, Mary Ann Bloomer of Guilderland; and four grandchildren.

The service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Baxter-Andrew Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home, during which members of the IOOF and the Rebekah Lodge will conduct a service at 7.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fisher Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

Lee Scott
SCOTIA - Lee Siedlecki Scott, 87, formerly of High Mills Road, Burnt Hills, died Monday at the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness.
Born in Schenectady, she was a life-long area resident.

Mrs. Scott was a homemaker.

She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Glenville.

Mrs. Scott was predeceased by her husband, William Scott, who died in 1989.

Survivors include a sister, Diana Lewis of Burnt Hills.

A service will be at 11 a.m Friday, at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, Niskayuna.

Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc., 1 Mohawk Ave. Scotia.
