George J. Miranda, Troy Fire Dept. captain, Korean War vet
LANSINGBURGH - Former fire Captain George J. Miranda, 68, of Lansingburgh, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy.
Born in Scotia, Mr. Miranda was a graduate of Scotia High School.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Miranda was appointed to the Troy Fire Department in 1956 and retired in 1992 as a captain.
He was a former president of the Troy Federal Credit Union and was the former treasurer of the Marine Corps League of Troy.
Mr. Miranda was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Morris Miranda; a daughter, Barbara Lanoue of Lansingburgh; a son, Patrick Miranda of Lansingburgh; a brother, Marcus Miranda of Rotterdam; a sister, Madelyn Lawrence of Duanesburg; and seven grandchildren.
The services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 870 Second Ave., and at 9:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Church. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Troy.

Michael Marchesiello
GLENVILLE - Michael L. Marchesiello, 34, of Jenkins Road, died Monday at Ellis Hospital from cancer.
Born in Schenectady, he graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School in 1983 and SUNY at Cobleskill in 1985. He was a 1993 alumnus of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy and attended Union College in Schenectady as an industrial economics major until his death.
Mr. Marchesiello completed the manufacturing apprentice program at the General Electric Co. between 1990 and 1993 and worked as a materials resource planner for the company for 10 years.
Mr. Marchesiello was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Parish.
Survivors include his wife, Lisabeth Swope Marchesiello; two sons, Anthony M. and Nicholas R. Marchesiello of Burnt Hills; two brothers, Joseph A. Marchesiello of Charlton and Dominick "Buz" Marchesiello Jr. of Glenville; a sister, Michele M. Michael of Clifton Park; and his mother- and father-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Swope of Baldwinsville.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., East Glenville, and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd., East Glenville.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, East Glenville.
Calling hours will be from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Marion Dirsie
AMSTERDAM - Mrs. Marion R. Dirsie, 82, of Route 147, Galway, died Sunday at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a long illness.
Mrs. Dirsie was born in Amsterdam. She was educated in the Amsterdam school system.
Mrs. Dirsie was employed as a sales clerk. She retired from the former Nichols department store.
Her husband, James Dirsie, whom she married on April 22, 1944, died in 1963.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Nardin of Wilton; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held this spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill.
There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place.

Harold Mulvey, `Panther' judge
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Harold M. Mulvey, the former Superior Court Judge who presided over the highly-charged Black Panther trial in the early 1970s, died on Sunday. He was 86.
The six-month murder trial of national Black Panther leader Bobby G. Seale and local leader Ericka Huggins ended in a hung jury.
Seale, chairman of the militant group, was accused of ordering the killing of a local Panther member, Alex Rackley, a suspected police informer.
Mulvey dismissed the charges against Seale and Huggins on May 24, 1971.

Harold L. Ballou
BROADALBIN - Harold L. Ballou, 99, of Lake View Road, died Sunday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Hindsburg, he was educated in schools there and moved to Gloversville in 1929.
Mr. Ballou had lived in Broadalbin since 1946.
He was an installer at the former Holland Furnace Co. in Gloversville and was also a projectionist at the former Hippodrome Theatre. He later worked for the former Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam.
Mr. Ballou retired from Mohawk Furniture in the early 1960s and then helped his son operate Hillcrest Farms until its closing in 1974.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Ballou was a member of the Perth Bible Church.
His wife, Ethel McIntosh Ballou, whom he married on June 24, 1939, died on March 19, 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine M. Pfeiffer of Broadalbin; a sister, Bertha Slade of Gloversville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, 38 West Main St.
Spring burial will be in the Union Mills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to a charity of one's choice.

`Betty' Jeski
SCHENECTADY - Mrs. Ethel "Betty" Schroll Jeski, 89, of Webster Street, died Monday at home after a long illness.
Born in Albany, Mrs. Jeski was a homemaker.
She was a former member of St. Thomas Church. She attended St. John the Evangelist Church.
Her husband, Benjamin Jeski, whom she married July 11, 1928, died in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Meyer of Schenectady; two grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
The services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway at Guilderland Avenue, and at 11 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.

Antonia Rocca
ROTTERDAM - Mrs. Antonia Rocca, 51, of Fabian Drive, died Monday at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Rocca was born in Italy and came to the Schenectady area in 1974.
She worked in the housekeeping department at Schenectady County Community College for 17 years until her retirement in 1998.
Mrs. Rocca was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Schenectady.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Armando Rocca; her parents, Loretto and Francesca Polsinelli of Italy; two daughters, Domenica Delia of Rotterdam and Emma Mesick of Schenectady; a son, Rocco Rocca of Rotterdam; a brother, Raphael Polsinelli of Italy; a sister, Maria Polsinelli of Italy; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 8:15 a.m. at the DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Ave., Schenectady, and at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be the Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum in Niskayuna.

Armetta Bull
AMSTERDAM - Mrs. Armetta A. Bull, 87, of Forest Avenue, died Monday at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Facility after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Bull attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident.
She worked for the former Chalmers Button Shop, the Home Dairy and Bayshore Industries. She retired in 1969 from the Amsterdam Printing & Litho Co., with 12 years of service in the mailing department.
Mrs. Bull was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Faithful Followers Bible Class.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Gerald L. Bull; four sons, LaVerne and Ronald Bull, both of Amsterdam, Wayne Bull of Ballston Lake and Dennis Bull of Fort Johnson; five daughters, Shirley Picinich of Sun City Center, Fla., Donna Strain of Cumberland, Md., Marlene Pingitore and Sandra Scott, both of Amsterdam, and Bonnie Betz of Sarasota, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Calling hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, during which members of the Faithful Followers will conduct a service at 6 p.m.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Barbara Williams
GLOVERSVILLE - Miss Barbara L. Williams, 74, of Park Street, died Sunday at home after being stricken.
Born in Hope Falls, Miss Williams lived most of her life in Gloversville and was a graduate of Northville Central School.
She was a dental assistant for Dr. Frederick Smith for many years. Later, she was a private duty licensed practical nurse in the area. Miss Williams retired in 1975.
Survivors include a sister, Mary W. LaFoe of Gloversville; and two brothers, Seymour Williams of Northville and John Williams of Hope Falls.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
