Michael P. Glavin, Democratic leader, Schodack supervisor, 51
SCHODACK LANDING - Michael Patrick Glavin, 51, died at home Sunday.
Born in Albany, Mr. Glavin worked with his family at Albany Glavin Travel. He also served as Schodack town supervisor for six years and as registrar for the Rensselaer County Board of Elections.

He co-founded the Irish American Society of Southern Rensselaer County and was past president of the Schodack Democratic Club. He was also a former chairman of the Rensselaer County Democratic Party.

Mr. Glavin was a lector and communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Castleton, and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 5, Albany.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Marie Elaine Glavin; a son, Brendan James Glavin of Rensselaer; a daughter, Colleen Marie Glavin of Rensselaer; his father, Patrick Thomas Glavin of Rensselaer; two brothers, Thomas Francis Glavin and Edward Butler, both of Rensselaer; and a sister, Ann Glavin Kelly of Rensselaer.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany, followed at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 3 Catholic Way, Castleton-on-Hudson, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

Robert G. Kennedy, 79, owned R.J. Kennedy & Sons, Halfmoon
HALFMOON - Robert G. Kennedy, 79, of Stone Quarry Road, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.
Born in Halfmoon, Mr. Kennedy was a lifelong resident.

He graduated with honors from Waterford High School in 1938.

In 1942, Mr. Kennedy enlisted in the Army Air Forces and served until 1945, when he was honorably discharged.

He worked on the family farm after the war and was owner and operator of R.J. Kennedy & Sons in Halfmoon, which was established in 1939 by his grandfather.

Mr. Kennedy was a founding member of both the Tri-County Excavators Association and the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450 in Halfmoon.

He had been an active member of the Halfmoon Zoning Board of Appeals since its inception and was a member of the Operating Engineers local 106 in Albany. He was also a member of the Southern Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Garlock Kennedy; a son, R. James Kennedy of Halfmoon; a daughter, Patricia Hurley of Schenectady; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon Tuesday at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Crescent Fire Department, 1440 Crescent Road, Clifton Park, NY 12065.

Guy Riano, technical specialist at GE's Gas Turbine Dept.
SCHENECTADY - Guy A. Riano, 86, of Willett Street, died Sunday at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. Riano was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of Schenectady public schools.

Mr. Riano was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a medical technical sergeant with the 3rd Army in Germany.

He worked as a technical specialist at the General Electric Co. in the Gas Turbine Engineering department for more than 30 years and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.

Mr. Riano was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

He is survived by a sister, Elvira Petrillo of Schenectady.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

A calling hour will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Ave.

Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Niskayuna.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Building Fund, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady, NY 12303.

Ann T. Swedick
COLONIE - Mrs. Ann Donovan Swedick, 61, of Island View Road, died Saturday at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a short illness.
Born in Troy, Mrs. Swedick was raised in Watervliet and graduated from Watervliet High School.

For the past 40 years, she was a resident of Island View Road.

Mrs. Swedick was vice president of the family business, Swedick & Donovan General Contractors in Colonie, retiring in 1988.

She was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church, Latham.

Mrs. Swedick was a former member of the Watervliet Columbiettes.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, John P. "Jack" Swedick; her mother, Marcella Bevins Donovan of Watervliet; three daughters, Deborah Ann Whitham of Sarasota, Fla., Jacqueline Ann Swedick of Colonie, and Sherry Ann Ryan of Schaghticoke; two sons, Joseph M. Swedick of Waterford and Andrew J. Swedick of Raleigh, N.C.; five brothers, Edward J. Donovan of Owl's Head, Franklin County, Thomas J., William P. and Charles R. Donovan, all of Watervliet, and Robert M. Donovan of Waterford; two sisters, Mary Banten of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Judith Disbrow of Delanson; and six grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet.

Contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Anna Cietek Sicko
HALFMOON - Mrs. Anna Cietek Sicko, 89, of Dunsbach Road, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a short illness.
Born in Maplewood, Mrs. Sicko had lived in Halfmoon for more than 50 years.

She worked as a machine operator for the former Forman Clark Co. in Watervliet until her retirement.

Mrs. Sicko was a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of John Sicko, who died in 1994.

Survivors include her two sons, Frank and John Sicko, both of Clifton Park; a sister, Julia Kutey of Cohoes; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, and at 9 a.m. at Shenendehowa United Methodist Church.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 this afternoon and from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Beatrice Edgar
CLIFTON PARK - Mrs. Beatrice "Bea" Edgar, 98, of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany and former Clifton Park resident, died Sunday at her residence after a long illness.
Born in Scotia, Mrs. Edgar had lived on Beechwood Drive in Clifton Park for 10 years. Previously, she had lived on Long Island and later in the Malta Ridge area.

She was educated in Queens.

Mrs. Edgar worked as a licensed practical nurse for more than 40 years, practicing as a private duty nurse on Long Island for various agencies.

She was a charter member and charter secretary of the Richmond Hills Order of the Eastern Star (now Forest Hills) and was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Edgar was the widow of William E. Edgar.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane M. Chamberland of Clifton Park; a son, Charles W. See of Clifton Park; a stepson, William Edgar Jr. of Gilford, N.H.; a sister, Viola Stanton of Plainfield, N.J.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Malta Ridge Fire Department, Malta.

Catherine Robertson Brown
RENSSELAER - Mrs. Catherine Robertson Brown, 93, of Wendell Street, died Sunday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a short illness.
Born in Rensselaer, Mrs. Brown was a lifelong resident.

Mrs. Brown was a graduate of St. John's Academy.

She worked at Roxy Cleaners.

She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Gerald O'Neil American Legion Post 1683 and was a Gold Star Mother. She was also a life member of the ladies auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen.

In 1999, Mrs. Brown was recognized by the city of Rensselaer as one of its oldest citizens.

She was a communicant of St. John's Church.

Mrs. Brown was the widow of John J. Brown.

Survivors include two sons, Robert H. and Michael J. Brown, both of Rensselaer; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., followed at 10 at St. John's Church, Herrick Street, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.

Cornelis VanderVeen
COBLESKILL - Cornelis VanderVeen, 37, of Florence Street, died Saturday at St. Barnabus Medical Center, Livingston, N.J., as a result of injuries suffered in a farming accident in April 1999.
Born in Port Jervis, Mr. VanderVeen was a 1980 graduate of the Covenant Christian School of Duanesburg.

He worked at the family dairy farm, Seven View Farm, in Delanson. He was also a licensed Realtor for Caldwell-Banker from 1987 to 1989.

A former member and deacon of Reformed Presbyterian Church, Duanesburg, Mr. VanderVeen was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Cobleskill.

Survivors include his parents, Seymor and Grace VanderVeen of Delanson; his wife, Nancy Heckman VanderVeen, whom he married Sept. 30, 1988; three daughters, Sara G., Anne-Marie J. and Kristin A. VanderVeen, all of Cobleskill; two sisters, Heidie E. Armao of Tennessee and Patricia A. Tangen of Delanson; and three brothers, Maurice VanderVeen of Canada and Frank and Robert VanderVeen, both of Delanson.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Main Street, Cobleskill.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St.

A reception will follow in the church hall after the Wednesday service.

Burial will be at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Grove Cemetery, Delanson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, Main Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
