`Sonny' Sivik, 65, wrote opera on life of Kateri Tekakwitha
AMSTERDAM - Denytro "Sonny" Sivik, 65, of Beacon Avenue, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital.
Mr. Sivik was born in Broadalbin.

He earned a master's degree in composition from the Mannes School of Music in New York City and received a diploma in composition from the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Mass.

He had studied music since age 8 and his teachers included Edgar Curtis, Pablo Casals and Samuel Barber.

Mr. Sivik composed nine symphonies, ballets, piano and violin and cello concertos, operas and works for chorus and bands. His works have been performed in the United States and Europe and have been recognized by the New York State Council on the Arts.

He composed a requiem Mass in honor of Felicia Petrosino and an opera on the life of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha.

Mr. Sivik was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carmella Petrosino Sivik, whom he married Oct. 22, 1983; his mother, Jessie Sivik of Amsterdam; a brother, Roland Sivik of Amsterdam; and a sister, Patricia Patrick of Hyannis, Mass.

Services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., followed at 9:15 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to St. Michael's Memorial Fund; The National Shrine of North American Martyrs; or the Liberty Foundation, all in care of the funeral home.

Florence Morrone Purstell, 100, lifelong local resident
MAPLEWOOD - Mrs. Florence Morrone Purstell, 100, of Third Avenue, died Sunday at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs.
Born in Maplewood, Mrs. Purstell worked for the Behr-Manning Co., now the Norton Co. in Watervliet, retiring with 23 years of service.

She was a member of the Watervliet Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Purstell was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Watervliet and a member of its Ladies Guild.

She was the widow of Frank Purstell.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Purstell of Ivy, Va., and Donald Purstell of Derry, N.H.; a daughter, Ann Marie Connors Dunn of Maplewood; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, and at 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Colonie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 410 23rd St., Watervliet, NY 12189; or to charity.

`Sam' Carlozzi
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Salvatore "Sam" Carlozzi, 84, of 21st Avenue, formerly of Silver Spring, Md., died Sunday at home after a long illness.
Born in Ossining, N.Y., Mr. Carlozzi was a proofreader for the U.S. Printing Office in Washington, D.C., retiring with 35 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Carlozzi attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Schroon Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Lidia Bernardini Carlozzi; a son, Stephen M. Carlozzi of Cape Coral, Fla.; a sister, Josephine Monroe of Livingston Manor, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Schroon Lake.

There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in Severance Cemetery, town of Schroon.

Arrangements are by the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, Clifton Park, N.Y.

Natasha Decker
COLONIE - Mrs. Natasha Decker, 71, of Debbie Court, died Monday at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Manhattan, Mrs. Decker was a graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a bachelor's of science degree and also SUNY New Paltz with a master's degree in education. She also attended The College of Saint Rose.

Mrs. Decker taught home economics at a junior and senior high school in Ellenville and in Bricktown, N.J., and more recently at the South Colonie School District, retiring in 1989 with a total of 29 years of service.

She was a member of St. Michael's Chapel in Glenmont.

Mrs. Decker was the widow of Frank Decker.

Survivors include two daughters, Holly Oropallo and Theresa Lewinski, both of Colonie; two sons, Michael Decker of Ballston Spa and Stephan Decker of Newburgh; her mother, Mary Andreyko of Colonie; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Chapel, Glenmont. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

`Cappy' Caprara
ATLANTA - Angelo "Cappy" Caprara, 77, formerly of the Capital Region, died Sunday in Atlanta.
Mr. Caprara was originally from Supino, Italy.

He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as an officer.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Suttles; two daughters, Linda Gabby of Milwaukee, Wis., and Nancy Malay of Alpharetta, Ga.; two sons, David Caprara of Fredericksburg, Va., and Gary Caprara of Dahlmega, Ga.; a sister, Anna Johnson of Schenectady; and nine grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 this morning at St. Jude Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Directors.

Anna Gysel
SYRACUSE - Mrs. Anna M. Gysel, 96, formerly of Schenectady, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Gysel was a longtime Syracuse resident.

She was a secretary for Jacobsen Oriental Rugs for many years, retiring in 1989.

Mrs. Gysel was a former communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society.

Her husband, Oliver L. Gysel, died in 1963.

Survivors include a son, James C. Gysel of Syracuse; and two sisters, Mildred DiCamillo of Batavia and Theresa Neal of Albany.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 1001 Tulip St., Liverpool.

A calling hour will precede the service at the church.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Rochester, at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057.

Arrangements are by the Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home.

Betty Saltzburg
GLOVERSVILLE - Mrs. Betty Koenig Saltzburg, 76, formerly of Fifth Avenue, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home.
Born in Troy, Mrs. Saltzburg lived in Gloversville most of her life.

She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and the Mildred Elley Secretarial School, Albany.

For many years, Mrs. Saltzburg was a secretary for the former Goodheim Glove Co.

She was a member of Knesseth Israel Synagogue and a lifetime member of Hadassah.

Mrs. Saltzburg was a member of the Jewish Community Center.

She was widowed by her husband of more than 50 years, Daniel Saltzburg.

Survivors include a brother, Jules Koenig of Gloversville.

A service will be held at 11 this morning at Knesseth Israel Synagogue.

Burial will take place in Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Gloversville.

Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home.

Charlotte Peck
GLOVERSVILLE - Mrs. Charlotte Dean Peck, 91, of East State Street, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Peck lived at Peck's Lake from 1935 to 1994 and also in Utica for five years. She resided at the Getman Home in Gloversville for the past year. Mrs. Peck was a 1926 graduate of Amsterdam High School and a 1929 graduate of Cobleskill State College.

Mrs. Peck was taught at the former Switzer Hill School in Fonda from 1929 to 1931. She was later a substitute teacher at Fulton County rural schools and also taught one year at the former Peck's Park School. Mrs. Peck was chairwoman of the board of directors of Peck's Lake Enterprises, a position she held for the past 12 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and served on the church's administrative board. She was former committee member of the Gloversville Council of Churches and of the Troy United Methodist Conference.

Mrs. Peck was a Glove Cities Welcome Wagon hostess from 1954 to 1962 and vice president of the Fulton County Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association when it merged with other counties to form the American Lung Association of Mid New York. Subsequently, she became a member the new association's steering committee.

She was a former member of the Gloversville YWCA building and maintenance committee and the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary. She held offices in the St. Monica Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Cayadutta Chapter OES. She was state grand chaplain of the OES in 1952. She held offices in the Cayadutta Chapter, Order of the Amaranth.

Her husband, Charles W. Peck, whom she married July 31, 1931, died in 1984.

Survivors include two sons, C. Wellington Peck and Lawrence D. Peck, both of Peck's Lake; a sister, Ruth Silk of Agawam, Mass.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Calling hours will be from 4 this afternoon until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
