Born in Syracuse, he received an associate's degree in marketing from Cayuga Community College. He moved from Syracuse in 1989. He worked for Plastic Safety Systems in Cleveland, Ohio, for the past four years. Survivors: His wife, the former Karen Goins; two daughters, Erin E. Brown of Massena and Sarah L. Kessler of DeWitt; his parents, George L. and Elizabeth H. of Chittenango; four brothers, Greg and Tim, both of Chittenango, Dan of Cazenovia and Mark of Tully; three grandchildren. Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday in Eastern Hills Bible Church. Burial, Maplewood Cemetery, Fabius. Tait Funeral Home, Cazenovia, has arrangements. Carol A. Standford Battista, 72, of 293 W. Second St., Oswego, died Saturday. She was born in Oswego. She worked in the housekeeping department at Loretto Heights Nursing Home and Diamond Match Factory, both in Oswego, and Cathedral Candle Co., Syracuse. She was a seamstress for the Elma Foundation and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, both in Oswego. Survivors: Her husband of 51 years, Michael; three daughters, Barbara Carroll and Linda Spicer, both of Oswego, and Arlene Oldenburger of Driftwood,  Texas; a brother, Floyd Standford of Oswego; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Services: 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at Sugar and Scanlon Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Burial, St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours, 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 147 W. Etilo P. DaRin
July 1, 2002
Etilo P. DaRin, 82, of 113 Charing Road, DeWitt, died Saturday at Iroquois Nursing Home, Jamesville. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Jamesville High School. He retired after 35 years with the Onondaga County Corrections Department, where he was an administrator at the county penitentiary. He was a 35-year volunteer for the Jamesville Fire Department, a former member of the Town of DeWitt Zoning Board, a former president of Jamesville Optimist International and a crossing guard at Moses DeWitt Elementary School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 61 years, the former Virginia Roberts; two daughters, Joan Vivona of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Janet Raasch of Fayetteville; six sons, John and Robert, both of Atlanta, Joseph of Carmel, Ind., Thomas of Penfield, James of Manlius and Christopher of Jamesville; two sisters, Mary Crowley of Fayetteville and Angeline Sala of Jamesville; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial, Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Margaret E. Underhill Guckert of North Syracuse died Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. Born in Lockport, she lived in Syracuse for much of her life and lived in North Syracuse for 24 years. She worked at General Electric for several years. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. Survivors: Her husband of 20 years, Edward J.; twin daughters, Colleen J. Graham of North Syracuse and Carol A. Bergantzel of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a son, Charles J. Calderala of Clay; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fergerson Funeral Home and 2 p.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Philip R. Hollenbeck Jr., 61, of 891 county Route 7, Hannibal, died Saturday. Born in Oswego, he lived in Hannibal 31 years. He retired after 14 years with the Oswego County Highway Department. Survivors: His wife of 39 years, the former Judy M. Graham; a daughter, Sheri Hollenbeck of Hannibal; three sons, David of Oswego and Douglas and Scott, both of Hannibal; his mother, Rena Hollenbeck of Minetto; three sisters, Helen Holliday of Georgia, Patricia Sherer of Syracuse and Sandra Besaw of Fulton; three brothers, Charles of Tennessee and James and Larry, both of Fulton; four grandchildren. Maylia D. Bremerman Keyes, 81, of North Syracuse died Wednesday. Born in Fulton, she lived in North Syracuse for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, North Syracuse. Her husband, Paul C., died in 1969. Survivors: Two daughters, Paula E. Griffith and Nancy L. Wentworth, both of North Syracuse; three sons, Charles F. of Phoenix, Ariz., Paul C. Jr. of Baldwinsville and William E. of Naples, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Thaddeus A. "Ted" Kupinski, 80, of Cicero died Saturday. He was born in Utica. He lived in the Syracuse area from 1953 to 1972 and moved to Cicero in 1994. He retired in 1987 as a ceramics engineer. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served with Special Engineers Detachment, Manhattan Project. Survivors: His wife of 51 years, the former Mary E. Welch; two daughters, Marie J. Evans of New Britain, Pa., and Ann K. Schwass of Boston; four sons, John M. of Olean, James P. of Liverpool, Paul E. of Minneapolis and William T. of State College, Pa.; four sisters, Helen Niemiec of Florida, Mary Jaworoski of Utica, Josephine Franks of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Gloria Pole of Sherrill; two brothers, Joseph of California and Stanley of Utica; nine grandchildren. Viola M. Guillaume Leone, 87, of South Street, Madison, died Saturday. Born in Utica, she was salutatorian of the Class of 1933 at Madison Central School. She worked at the Waterville Knitting Mill and was a dealer in antique carnival ware. Her husband, Frank, died in 1990. A stepson, Joe Leone, died in 1988. She was a member and past matron of Fralick-Central City Chapter 433, Order of Eastern Star, and also associate grand marshal. Survivors: A sister, Shirley Meloling of Syracuse. Survivors: Her husband of 56 years, Walter F.; two sons, Stephen F. of Bristolville, Ohio, and David W. of Manlius; a sister, Mary E. She retired in 1975 after more than 40 years as a librarian for the Syracuse Public Library. She was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun. Survivors: A brother, Abe L. Scharfeld of Columbus, Ohio. She lived in Lincroft and Highlands, N.J., before moving to New York in 1993. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Ernest W., died in 1967.
