Daniel C. Rasmussen
HALFMOON - Daniel Chandler Rasmussen, who was the production manager for Western Printing in Racine for more than 30 years, died Monday at home after a short illness. Mr. Rasmussen, of Manchester Drive, formerly of Racine, Wis., was 78.
Born in Richland Center, Wis., Mr. Rasmussen attended Washington Park High School in Racine.

He retired from Western Printing in the mid-1980s. He was later a customer service representative for three years at Garden Way in Troy.

Mr. Rasmussen was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars and three Overseas Service Bars.

He was the widower of Lois Hancock Rasmussen.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Rasmussen of Bartlett, Ill.; his companion, Doris Newell of Halfmoon; a sister, Ida Jean Ferraro of Racine; and three grandchildren.

The service will be held at noon on Friday at the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 148, Syracuse, NY 13206-0148.

Arrangements are by the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, Clifton Park.

Dorotha C. Christman
EPHRATAH - Mrs. Dorotha C. Christman, who served as the assessor for the Town of Ephratah for many years, died Saturday at the Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness. Mrs. Christman, of School Street, was 96.
Mrs. Christman was born in Gloversville.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Christman was a member of the Ephratah Volunteer Fire Department ladies auxiliary.

Thurman D. Christman, whom she married June 30, 1925, died in 1968.

Survivors include two daughters, Elsie Roberts of Ephratah and Blanche Gray of Schenectady; a son, Paul F. Christman of Ephratah; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 this morning at the Ephratah Reformed Church, Route 140.

Burial will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the church in care of Bernard Christman, 132 state Highway 67, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Johnstown.

Theresa Marsello
ROTTERDAM - Mrs. Theresa Marsello, who was a cashier at the former Loblaw's department store on Guilderland Avenue for more than 25 years, died Sunday at home. Mrs. Marsello, of Fordham Avenue, was 81.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Marsello was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the former Nott Terrace High School.

Mrs. Marsello was a member of the Rotterdam Volunteer Fire District 2 Women's Auxiliary.

Her husband, Frank Marsello, died in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Thomas of Ocala, Fla.; two sons, Michael and Joseph Marsello, both of Rotterdam; five grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.

Duane Putnam
TUCSON, Ariz. - Duane C. Putnam, who was an inspector of gas and steam turbines for the General Electric Co., died at home Sunday. Mr. Putnam, of Tucson, formerly of Esperance, was 88.
Born in Streeter, N.D., Mr. Putnam had lived in Esperance until moving to Tucson in 1978.

He was a graduate of Streeter High School.

He retired from GE in 1972.

He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Tucson.

He was a longtime member and former trustee of Esperance United Methodist Church.

Mr. Putnam was a former trustee of the Esperance Cemetery Association and a charter member of the Esperance Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Mason and a member of the former Redmen Lodge.

He was the widower of Ruth Rockwell Putnam, who died in 2000.

Survivors include three daughters, Dianne Hoff of Chandler, Ariz., Karen Dane of Clovis, N.M., and Sylvia LaPorte of Tucson; a brother, Max Putnam of Central Bridge; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Methodist Church.

A spring graveside service will be held at Esperance Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Contributions may be made to Carondelet Hospice, 1802 W. St. Mary's Road, Tucson, AZ 85745, or Tucson Metropolitan Ministries, 3127 E. Adams, Tucson, AZ 85716.

Arrangements are by the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, Delanson.

Josephine VanBuren
SCHENECTADY - Mrs. Josephine Zebrowski VanBuren, who worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for 20 years, retiring in 1989 as a supervisor, died Monday at Ellis Hospital. Mrs. VanBuren, of Kellogg Avenue, was 79.
Born in Schenectady, Mrs. VanBuren was a lifelong area resident.

She was a crane operator at General Electric Co. and was later a manager at Macy's department store.

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and its Rosary Society where she served as vice president at one time.

Her husband, Schuyler C. VanBuren, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanne VanBuren of Clifton Park; two sons, Peter VanBuren of Latham and Paul VanBuren of Schenectady; a brother, Walter Zebrowski of Colonie; two sisters, Sally Ruminski of Latham and Ida Donnelly of Colonie; and seven grandchildren.

The services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., and at 9 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, during which members of the Rosary Society will meet at 5.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church Rosary Society, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12304.

Helen T. Whitford
RENSSELAER - Mrs. Helen T. Whitford, who was a library aide for the Rensselaer City Library for 27 years, died Sunday at Albany Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Whitford, of Woodland Avenue, was 66.
Born in Albany, Mrs. Whitford was a lifelong resident of Rensselaer.

Mrs. Whitford was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.

Survivors include her husband, David G. Whitford; two sons, James Whitford of Clifton Park and Robert Whitford of Rensselaer; three daughters, Terri Zobre of Poughkeepsie, Judith Ann Whitford and Deborah Dwyer, both of Rensselaer; two brothers, Dominick Carlow and Paul Carlotti, both of Rensselaer; three sisters, Carol Jake Carlati of Rensselaer, Jennie Tagliento of Clifton Park and Anna Rodino of Troy; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., followed at 9:30 at St. Joseph's Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Madeline E. Cook
CHERRY VALLEY - Private services will be held for Mrs. Madeline E. Cook, who was the director of the Fulton and Montgomery County Community Center. Mrs. Cook, 85, of Cherry Valley, died Saturday at the home of her son.
Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Cook earned a degree in English from New York City College.

She and her late husband were farmers in Cherry Valley. She was an editor for the Beech-Nut News. Mrs. Cook was a substitute teacher for area schools. She was also a copy editor and proofreader for Simon and Shuster and Doubleday Publishing companies for most of her life.

Mrs. Cook was a Lutheran.

She was the widow of Austin MacIntyre Cook.

Survivors include a son, Bruce C. Cook of Cherry Valley; and a granddaughter.

Burial will be in Albany Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the Ottman Funeral Home.

Charles G. Kratchel
LATHAM - Charles G. Kratchel, who was an Army veteran of the Korean War, died Monday at home. Mr. Kratchel, of Latham, was 67.
Born and educated in New York City, Mr. Kratchel lived in the Bronx for many years before moving to the Latham area in 1986.

Mr. Kratchel worked for Chase-Manhattan Bank in New York City where he was a supervisor for 25 years and he also worked for First American Bank in Albany for five years. He worked part-time for five years for Our Lady of the Assumption Church and for the past six years for the New York Racing Authority at Saratoga, Aqueduct and Belmont.

He was a member of Colonie Elks Lodge 2192 and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Kratchel was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Margaret Tighe Kratchel; two sons, James M. Kratchel of New York City and Kevin C. Kratchel of Latham; and three grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road.

Burial will be with military honors in the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
