Rita Friedlander
Schenectady -- Rita (Mortensen) Friedlander, 99, formerly of Union Street, Niskayuna, NY, passed away Friday, February 1, 2002 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home in Schenectady after being stricken.
Mrs. Friedlander was born February 5, 1902 in Flensburg, Germany, then came to Schenectady in 1995 after living in Flushing, NY. Rita was a homemaker.
Rita was married to the late Alex Friedlander.
Survivors include one daughter, Marion Hutchison of Flushing, NY; one granddaughter, Hilary Hutchison Porter of Schenectady and two great–grandchildren, Cody Porter and Shane Porter, both of Schenectady.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.
Amelio Friello
Rotterdam -- Amelio Friello, 80, of Curry Road, passed away Thursday evening at Ellis Hospital after being stricken at home.
Amelio was born and educated in Alvignano, Province of Caserta, Italy. He served in the Italian Red Cross during World War II. Amelio immigrated to Schenectady with his family in 1954.
For several years he was employed as a carpenter and mechanic for Al–Cobra Construction.
Mr. Friello was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church .
He was a member of the Italian American ExCambottenti Post #1, formerly a member of the Sons of Italy and the Rotterdam Senior Citizens. He will be remembered for the love of his family and the joy of gardening and wine making.
He was the husband of the late Mariannina Tommasone Friello, whom he married December 6, 1945. She passed away March 1, 1987.
Mr. Friello is survived by two daughters, Antoinette Corson and her husband George of Gloversville and Anna Marie Foote and her husband Michael of Slingerlands, two sons, Renato “Ray” Friello and his wife Jane of Schenectady and Anthony Friello and his wife Luann of Guilderland, seven grandchildren, Brenda Formichelli, James Jackowski, David Friello, Daniel Foote, Keith Foote, Anthony Friello II and Jordan Friello, two great grandchildren, Gabriella and Anthony Formichelli, two brothers, Miguel and Antonio Friello of Alvignano, Italy, his devoted companion, Maria Duca of Rotterdam, as well as several brothers–in–law, sisters–in–law, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. from the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, then to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam, where a Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
Joseph R. Genovesi
Schenectady -- Joseph R. Genovesi, 74, of Raymond St., passed away Thursday evening at Ellis Hospital after being stricken at home.
Born December 26, 1927, Joseph was a lifelong resident of Schenectady and a graduate of Nott Terrace High School, class of 1946. Mr. Genovesi served in the U.S. Navy as a First Seaman during WWII in Shanghai, China and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. Joseph then graduated from Veterans Vocational School in Troy. Mr. Genovesi was employed as a machinist at the General Electric Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Genovesi proceeded to work at the Schenectady County Department of Motor Vehicles for 11 years until retiring in 1999.
Joe was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club; GE Athletic Association and a lifelong communicant and Usher at St. Anthony's Church. Joe's passion for golf awarded him a
hole–in–one at the Schenectady Municipal Golf Course on September 15, 1991.
Joe is survived by his wife, Irene A. Salvatore Genovesi, whom he married April 27, 1952, two sons, Joseph M. Genovesi and his wife TerriLyn of Schenectady, Dr. Edward A. Genovesi and his fiancee Dr. Bonnie Walinsky of Philadelphia, PA, a daughter, Gina R. Potfora and her husband Gary of Schenectady, two grandchildren, Briana Rene Genovesi and Conor William Genovesi, a sister, Julie Fassett of Cherry Valley, and pals Pepper and Nikki. Joseph was also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday morning at 8 a.m. from the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, then to St. Anthony Church, Seward Place, where a Mass will be concelebrated at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
Interment will be at Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.

Marie Agnes(Mabee, Abele) Hamm
Wittman, AZ -- Marie Agnes (Mabee, Abele) Hamm, 81, of Wittman, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2002 in Tucumcari, New Mexico.
She was born on October 18, 1920 in Amsterdam, N.Y, daughter of the late William Mabee and the late Frances (Bojanowski) Mabee of Providence, New York.
Marie was a graduate of Amsterdam High School and later attended art school in New York City. While in New York she worked at Macy's Department Store and enjoyed helping with the Macy parade. She married Harold Abele and was a homemaker and 4-H Leader for many years as she raised her children. After Harold's death she worked at Sears in Colonie Center and Lawless Container Corp. in Scotia. She then won a scholarship to the Hannah Harrison School in Washington, D.C. Upon her graduation, she became the executive housekeeper at Trenton State College in New Jersey where she worked until her retirement. After her retirement she moved to California and married Clarence Hamm. They moved to Phoenix and finally to Wittman where Clarence was the Pastor of the Chaparral Missionary Baptist Church. Marie enjoyed her home in the country and her cactus garden. She had just celebrated her 10th anniversary and had a full ceremony to renew her wedding vows in
December.
She is survived by her husband, The Pastor Clarence C. Hamm of Wittman, Arizona, daughter Christine Meinhold and son-in-law William Meinhold of Schenectady, daughter Marilyn Abele of Gloversville and son Timothy Abele of Saratoga. She is also survived by her granddaughters; Victoria Aquilone of Bedford, Texas, Tammy Micken of Broadalbin, and Jessie Abele of Saratoga. Her grandsons are Raymond and Nelson Brownell of Galway, Carl Salmon of Bennington, Vermont and William Abele of Saratoga. She is also survived by seven great–grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and friends across the country.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Francis Abele of Schenectady, her sister Alice La Bombard of Montana, her brother James Mabee of Texas, and her nephew Chester Kowalski of Florida.
Burial was in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

David W. Hickok
Scotia -- David W. Hickok, 56, co–owner with his wife and Chief Executive Officer of D & D Automotive of Scotia, passed away at his home February 1, 2002, after battling cancer.
David was born in Amsterdam, New York on May 18, 1945, the son of Leonard and Mae Englehardt Hickok. He moved to Clifton Park from Perth, NY.
Mr. Hickok was a 1963 graduate of Shenendehowa and then served seven years in the Army National Guard. Mr. Hickok moved to Scotia in 1968. David was also a retired Captain for the Scotia Fire Department
David started the popular full–service automotive repair shop of Freeman's Bridge Road in the Town of Glenville and had been C.E.O. for many years. David married the former Dorothy Corey on June 22, 1969 and was a communicant of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scotia.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hickok of Glenville; a daughter, Ryane Hickok and her husband David Heckathorn of Glenville; a son, David W. Hickok of Brockton, MA; a son–in–law David Heckathorn of Glenville; his parents, Leonard and Mae Hickok of Waterford; five brothers, Gary Hickok, Paul Hickok, John Hickok, Brian Hickok, and James Hickok; six sisters, Jeannette Cotrofeld, Suzanne Travis, Barbara Hickok, Melinda Hickok, Kathy Cotrofeld, and Carol Graves, sister–in–law Kathleen Marchione, brother–in–law, Peter Corey, Jr., mother–in–law, Dorothy Corey, son–in–law of the late Pete Corey. Dearest friends Tony and Cathy Puglisi, Tom and Pat Osborne, John and Pat Pardi, and Greg and Barb Tiediemann also survive. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours will be Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Glenville Funeral Home with Dennis Meyer, pastor of his church officiating.
Burial will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.

Winifred A. Ille
Rotterdam -- Winifred A. Ille, 93, formerly of Continental Drive, passed away peacefully at the Glendale Nursing Home, Glenville on January 31, 2002.
Born in Schenectady in 1908, she was a beloved daughter of the late Keron and Agnes Sartoris Fitzpatrick. She attended local schools. Mrs. Ille was a graduate of the Albany Business College. Her later years were spent as a devoted homemaker.
Her husband, William M. Ille, passed away in 1969.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Fitzpatrick of Parker, CO and her sister, June Cerniglia of Scotia, NY. She leaves behind her stepchildren, W. Bernard Ille of Ballston Lake and Lillian English of Schenectady. She is also survived by three nieces and one nephew, several great nieces and nephews, several grandchildren and great–grandchildren.

Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Brandywine Avenue, Schenectady.
Lawrence D. Jones
Scotia -- Lawrence D. (Larry, Bud) Jones, 75, of Ridge Road, Scotia, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2002, after a long illness.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of Hudson High, Hudson, NY. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the United States Navy.
Mr. Jones was a master plumber in the area for many years and a member of the Steamfitter's Union. In 1964, he founded Ridgevue Plumbing and Heating, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Centre Glenville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Guan Ho–Ha Fish and Game Club and the Scotia Lions Club, and also an avid boater, first on the Hudson River and then on the Great Sacandaga. Larry was the captain of The Summer Fun.
He leaves his wife, Irene E. Shaw Jones, whom he married May 29, 1948; his three sons, Douglas L. and Mark C., both of Scotia, and Todd A. of Canajoharie; one daughter, Ellen I. of Galway; a daughter–in–law, Louise Moyer Jones of Canajoharie; and one grandson, Grant Lawrence Jones of Canajoharie. He is also survived by one sister, Ruth Barber of Hudson, NY, and several nieces, nephews and many friends. Mr. Jones was predeceased by three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Centre Glenville United Methodist Church, Bolt Road, Scotia. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening at the Glenville Funeral Home, Glenville. Burial will be at the Barkersville Cemetery, Barkersville, NY, in the Shaw family plot.

Joseph S. Kalinowski, Sr.
Rotterdam -- Joseph S. Kalinowski, Sr., 88, of Robinwood Avenue, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at St. Clare's Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Kalinowski was born March 8, 1913, in Schenectady.
Mr. Kalinowski was a supervisor for General Electric (Tippo) Data Communication, Watt Street, for 47 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the National Guard for 10 years, prior to WWII.
Mr. Kalinowski was a communicant of the Church of Saint Adalbert. He was also a member of the Saint Adalbert Holy Name Society, Young Men's Polish Association, YMPA (Charter Member), G.E. Athletic Association, G.E. Quarter Century Club and Annie Schaffer Senior Citizen Center.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Lewandowski Kalinowski, whom he married June 5, 1938. She passed away on May 26, 1989.
Survivors include Joseph's children, Joseph Kalinowski, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Guilderland and Barbara Reid and her husband James of Niskayuna; his sister, Josephine (Ginger) Sienka of Rotterdam and sister–in–law, Jane Malecki of Schenectady; and his grandchildren, Joseph Kalinowski of Clifton Park, Jeffrey Kalinowski of Buffalo, James Reid of Sterling, VA and Heather Reid of Niskayuna. Joseph was the loving companion of Genevieve (Gene) Zolad of Rotterdam. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. from the Leszczynski Funeral Home, 716 Crane Street, thence to the Church of Saint Adalbert at 9 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m., to which relatives, friends, and members of St. Adalbert Holy Name Society are cordially invited to attend. The Holy Name Society will meet Sunday at 2 p.m. for a service for their departed member. Interment will be at Saint Adalbert Cemetery.

Dr. Richard D. Kearns
Broadalbin -- Dr. Richard D. Kearns, 83, of Broadalbin, NY, died suddenly Tuesday, January 27, 2002 at Hilton Head Medical Center, Hilton Head, South Carolina.
He was born February 8, 1918 in Little Falls, New York, the son of John and Margaret Shanley Kearns.
Dr. Kearns was educated in Fonda Schools and was a 1936 graduate of Johnstown High School. He then attended Georgetown University, and transferred to Union College where he graduated in 1940. He graduated from Albany Medical College in 1944, and served his Internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York City in 1945.
Dr. Kearns served two years in the Pacific Theater as a Captain and orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII. He received the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He returned to Fulton County after the war, serving as a resident physician at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville for six months. In 1947 he opened his private practice in Broadalbin where he practiced general medicine for 38 years until his retirement in 1985. In 1949 Governor Thomas E. Dewey appointed Dr. Kearns a Fulton County Coroner, a position he held for 15 years. He received citations for his service in that capacity from Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson, and Nixon.
Dr. Kearns had been a member of the medical staffs of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, the Fulton County Medical Society, the State Medical Society, the Health Officers Association, and the School Physicians Association. He was a former member of the Broadalbin Rotary Club, the Antlers Country Club of Amsterdam, and the Pine Brook Golf Club of Gloversville.
On April 4, 1970 he married Grace Leszczynski who survives. He is also survived by his daughters Pamela Terlaak Poot and Ingrid Petoff of Broadalbin, Shanely Murray of Schenectady, Claudia P. Kearns of Basking Ridge, NJ, Marion Marcel Bangert of Beverly, MA; and his son John J. Kearns of Broadalbin; eleven grandchildren, 4 great–grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, John Kearns and Robert Kearns, and his sisters Margaret Brownell, Edna Sturm and Rose Christman.
Calling hours were held Friday at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, Broadalbin. A private Funeral Service will be held today at the convenience of the family.
Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin.

Edward Krzeminski
Rotterdam -- Edward “Shorty” Krzeminski, 78, of Wellington Avenue, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at home.
Born in Schenectady on September 27, 1924, the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Tanski) Krzeminski, he was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Krzeminski was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Schenectady for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Military Policeman.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
He was predeceased by his wife Bernice Swan Krzeminski, who died January 10, 1993.
Mr. Krzeminski is survived by his uncle, Stanley Tanski of Clifton Park. He was the dear friend of Bill, Walt, Bob and Rose Godlewski. He was predeceased by his brother, William (Kayo) Krzeminski.
Services will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Ave., and 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday 4 to 6 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Saint Adalbert Cemetery.

Clayton E. Lathers
Johnstown -- Clayton E. Lathers, 79, of North Perry St., Johnstown, passed away Friday morning at his home.
Mr. Lathers is survived by his wife, Nina Cundaro Lathers; a son, James Lathers of Broomfield Co. and a daughter, Judith Schwartz of Utica, as well as six grandchildren and one great–granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.
