John C. Sloan, Jr.
Schenectady -- John C. Sloan, Jr., 73, of Lupine Dr., Ballston Spa, NY, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY, after a short illness.
Mr. Sloan was born on July 8, 1928, in Scotia, New York and was a lifetime area resident.

He was a graduate of Scotia High School and graduated from Hope College in 1952 with a BA in Accounting.

John was an accountant for H. Lynn Cushing, Colonie, NY for four years until his retirement in 1982. Prior to that, he was an accountant for Colonie Motors for 16 years. Mr. Sloan also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Scotia, where he was a past Deacon and Elder. He also had been a member of the Mohawk Valley Model Railroad Association.

Mr. Sloan was predeceased by his parents, John C. Sloan, Sr. and Frances (Anderson) Sloan.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Pierce) Sloan, whom he married on June 19, 1954; a daughter, Susan (Sloan) Bodnar and her husband, James D. of Nassau, NY; and a son, David Pierce Sloan of Scotia.

Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the First Reformed Church of Scotia, 224 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia, NY. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Scotia, NY.

Contributions may be made to the First Reformed Church of Scotia, 224 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia, NY.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bekkering–Ellis Funeral Home, Inc., 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.

Dr. Herbert M. Strong
Schenectady -- Dr. Herbert M. Strong, 93, of Schenectady died on January 30, 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Powell Strong; two sons, G. Kirk Strong and his wife Trish of Danville, CA, Steven R. Strong M.D. and his wife Sohny of Maui, HI; two daughters, Nancy Rimany and her husband, Kenneth of Niskayuna and Beth Soto and her husband, Tony of Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Derek and Megan Strong and Jessica and Kristen Rimany; and a great-grandson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Dr. Strong's Life today at 1 o'clock at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady with the Rev. Dr. Robert A. White officiating.

With Dr. Strong's devotion and association to the Adirondacks, memorial donations may be made to the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks, P.O. Box 951, Schenectady, NY 12301 or to Planned Parenthood, 414 Union Street, Schenectady, NY, 12305.

Steven A. Vitalo
Rotterdam, NY -- Steven A. Vitalo, 84, of Schenectady, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Ellis Hospital.
Born January 1, 1918, Steven was a lifelong resident of Schenectady.

Mr. Vitalo was employed as a letter carrier for U.S. Postal Service for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the European Theater.

Steven was a member of St. Gabriel Church. He bowled in the City League for many years, founded the Vitalo Open Classic League at Sportman's Bowl, was elected to Schenectady Bowling Association Hall of Fame, and was a baseball umpire with a career that lasted seven decades.

Survivors include his wife, Helene Krelski Vitalo, whom he married on November 25, 1950; a son, Daniel, and his wife Linda Vitalo of Newport Beach, CA; a daughter, Karen, and her husband James Gorman of Glenville; two brothers, Joseph and Arthur Vitalo, both of Rotterdam; a sister, Virginia Ferrara of Rotterdam; two grandchildren, Amber and Cory Vitalo of California; three step–grandchildren, Ryan Gorman of Ft. Hood, TX, Jesica Gorman of Clifton Park, and Sara Tompkins of Grand Gorge, NY; and three step great–grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Ave., and 10 a.m. at Saint Gabriel Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Saint Adalbert Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Center, 640 Jackson Street, St. Paul, MN. 55101–2595.

Arrangements are entrusted to the DeLegge Funeral Home.

Joan L. Wolfe
Scotia -- Joan L. Wolfe (nee: Sauer), 68, of Riverside Avenue, Scotia, passed away Thursday morning, January 31, 2002 at Ellis Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, New York, she was the daughter of the late Waldimar and Violet Tennyson Sauer. She was a Scotia resident for forty years.

Joan was a secretary for General Electric's Research and Development Center in Niskayuna.

Joan had regularly attended Scotia United Methodist Church.

Joan's passion was flower gardening and spending summers at her camp at Friends Lake.

Joan was married to Gordon Wolfe until his death in 1995.

Survivors include her two daughters, Wendy A Sacco of Broadalbin and Cheryl Leslie Riley of Littleton, CO; two brothers, Donald Sauer of Scotia and Frederick Sauer of Burnt Hills; two grandchildren, Anthony and Amanda Sacco; one great–grandson, Dominick Sacco; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her sister, Doris Sanford.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call prior on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed in Joan's memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308. Interment will be at Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Adonis Selwyn Antoine
Schenectady -- Adonis Selwyn Antoine died Monday, April 1, 2002 at St. Clare's Hospital shortly after birth. He was the son of Adonis Selwyn Antoine and Georgianna Thomas Antoine.
Survivors include his godparents, Roberto and Rosalyn Mendez of Schenectady; his maternal grandparents, Edna Young of Schenectady and George Thomas, Jr. of Albany; his paternal grandparents, Skeet and Beatrice Antoine of Grenada; three brothers Rehla, Quaylond, and Quinyan Thomas all of Schenectady; two sisters, T'Asia and Saysha Thomas both of Schenectady. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Parkview Cemetery, Schenectady.

Michalena Stasieczko Bradshaw
Schenectady -- Michalena Stasieczko Bradshaw, 76, of Rynex Corners Road, Princetown, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at St. Clare's Hospital.
Born in Danby, Vermont, she was a 1943 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph's Academy in Rutland. After graduation, she moved to Schenectady to work at General Electric. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Schenectady and was a past member of the church choir.

Her husband, the late Alton T. Bradshaw, died in 1997.

Survivors include eight children, Paul Bradshaw and Thomas Bradshaw of Schenectady, Lorraine Sturges of Burnt Hills, LTC Ramona Decker of Altamont, Curtis Bradshaw of Schenectady, Brian Bradshaw of Amsterdam, Joan Chiwiwi of Albuquerque, NM and Alton M. Bradshaw of Scottsdale, AZ; 14 grandchildren; one great–granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She is the sister of Grace Smith of Arlington, VT, the late John Stasieczko, Anthony Stasieczko, Joseph Stasieczko and Frank Stasieczko.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 8:15 from the DeMarco–Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church. Calling hours will be this evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Niskayuna.

The family would prefer memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150–1160.

Emanuella Chapleau
Gloversville -- Mrs. Emanuella “Midge” Chapleau, 78, of Gloversville, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after being stricken.
She was born in Gloversville, November 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Caputo De Santis.

She was educated in Gloversville schools, graduating from Gloversville High School.

Mrs. Chapleau was a glove maker all her life, working at home much of her career. She was also employed by the former Myers Glove Co. and Alexette Glove Co. She retired from Gates Mills several years ago.

Mrs. Chapleau was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred “Bud” Chapleau, whom she married June 14, 1952; a daughter, Mary Hamm and her husband Allan of Johnstown; a son, Alfred “Chap” Chapleau of Schenectady; one sister, Julia Di Mezza of Gloversville; one brother, Ralph De Santis of Boca Raton, FL; two granddaughters, Alyssa Stewart of Johnstown and Nicola Chapleau of Niskayuna; one grandson, Michael Stewart of Johnstown; and three step–grandchildren, Melanie, Bradley and Christopher Hamm, all of Johnstown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was predeceased by one sister, Evelyn De Santis, and two brothers, Jerry and Pasquale De Santis.

A prayer service will be held on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from Kobuskie–Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker Street, and at 11 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, Pastor, as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Donald D. De Angelo
Scotia -- Donald “Donnie” D. De Angelo, 62, of Pleasantview Ave., died Wednesday at St. Peter's Hospital after a long illness.
Donnie was born September 26, 1939 to the late Patrick and Jenny De Angelo. Mr. De Angelo was educated in Amsterdam. Donnie served in the U.S. Army in Fort Benning, GA from 1962 until 1964.

For 27 years, Mr. De Angelo was employed by General Electric Company in Schenectady as a sheet metal worker, retiring in 1994.

Donnie was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Curcio De Angelo, whom he married May 13, 1967. He was the loving father of Donlyn A. De Angelo of Scotia and Dean T. De Angelo of Dover Plains. Brother to Thomas De Angelo of Hudson, Patrick De Angelo, Jr. of Amsterdam, Deborah Valek of Guilderland, and the late George Politano. Brother–in–law to James Paul Curcio of Malta and Thomas and his wife Penny Curcio of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by several cherished nieces, nephews and great friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, and then to St. John the Baptist Church, Franklin Street, where a Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Calling hours will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 o'clock at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Hospital Foundation, 315 South Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208; St. John the Baptist Church, 427 Franklin Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 or to the Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services Offices, Rt. 22, Wassaic, NY 12592.

Aureliano DeRossi
Amsterdam -- Aureliano DeRossi, 90, of McKay Road, formerly of Division St., passed away early Thursday morning at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on November 19, 1911, he was the son of Clodomiro and Luigina Lorelli DeRossi. He was educated locally and lived in Amsterdam for his entire life. Mr. DeRossi was employed as a crane and elevator repairman for General Electric in Schenectady for 31 years, retiring in 1973.

He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

His beloved wife, the former Lucille Romano, preceded him in death on March 15, 1974.

Mr. DeRossi leaves his loving children, Raymond and his wife Phyllis Catello DeRossi of Amsterdam, with whom he resided, and Diana and her husband Robert Seeley of Broadalbin; his sisters Rose DaBiere of Amsterdam and Jean Eliseo of Schenectady; his step–sisters, Rose, Josephine and Amelia Bombardatore and Assunta “Susie” Gambardella, all of Amsterdam; Carmella Kazlauskas of Schenectady; five grandchildren, Dawn Jones, Tammy Rigo, Jason Seeley, Kristen Culnan and Anthony DeRossi; six great–grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Rolando and Edmund DeRossi, and a sister, Louise Machold.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church with Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti, celebrant. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. Michael's Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to St. Michael's Memorial Fund or to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation.

John Dzierga
Amsterdam -- John Dzierga, 88, of County Highway 132, Hagaman, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born on September 23, 1913 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Pikor Dzierga. He attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Dzierga was a self–employed dairy farmer. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman. He was also a life member of the Perth Volunteer Fire Department since 1954. He held various offices and attained the rank of assistant chief.

Mr. Dzierga enjoyed raising white–faced beef cows and making maple syrup as hobbies.

He is survived by one sister, Elaine Kapusta and her husband Kasimer of Niskayuna; one sister–in–law, Jeanena “Jennie” Dzierga of Galway; two nephews, Mark Dzierga of Guilderland and David Kapusta of West Glenville; one niece Joyce Kapusta of Niskayuna; and cousins.

Mr. Dzierga was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Dzierga and Matthew Dzierga.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 11:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman. Calling hours will be Sunday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Dzierga's memory to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Stephen's Church, both in care of the funeral chapel.

Ruth Rulison Gagnon
Concord, NH -- Ruth Rulison Gagnon, is with the Lord. She died Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at the Harris Hill Nursing Home in Concord, NH.
Born February 22, 1917, Mrs. Gagnon was the daughter of the late Earl and Anna Larson Rulison. She grew up in Scotch Bush and worked in the New York City area after college. She married in 1943 and resided in Clinton, IA until the end of World War II, when she settled in the Schenectady area. She moved to Warner, NH in 1995. Mrs. Gagnon was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. She received a bachelors degree from Syracuse University and a masters degree from Columbia University. She was a homemaker and dietician. Mrs. Gagnon was employed by the New York State Dairy Council and local nursing homes. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association and was active in the ministries of the Bellevue Gospel Chapel in Schenectady.

Her late husband, L. Eldred Gagnon, died April 19, 1985.

Mrs. Gagnon is survived by three sons, Dale Gagnon of Bow, NH, Dean Gagnon of Essex Junction, VT, and Nels Gagnon of Globe, AZ; one daughter, Joy Gagnon Pasquerillo of Fort Mill, SC; three brothers, Howard Rulison of Amsterdam, Donald Rulison, missionary in Thailand, and Richard Rulison of Medfield, MA; nine grandchildren; four great–grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, John Rulison.

A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Bellevue Gospel Chapel, 2702 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady. A graveside service will follow on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Grove Cemetery, Quaker Street. There will be no calling hours.

Kevin Edward Grinnell, Sr.
Amsterdam -- Kevin Edward Grinnell, Sr., 45, of Ridge Road, Amsterdam, passed away Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital.
Arrangements are under the direction of Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, and will be announced.
