Howard S. Harrington
Gloversville -- Howard S. Harrington, 83, of Oakland Avenue, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at home.
Mr. Harrington was predeceased by his wife and children.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. today at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.

Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Thomas V. Kalament
Rotterdam -- Thomas V. Kalament, 89, of Rotterdam, died Wednesday at Glendale Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Piermont, New York, he worked as a machinist at the General Electric Company in Schenectady for over 43 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club, a former member of Civil Conservation Corp., a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, and a member of the former St. Cyril's Church.

Mr. Kalament was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, who died in 1995, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty V. Johnson of Scotia; a brother, John Kalament of Schenectady; a grandson, Thomas Kalament III of Amsterdam; two great–grandchildren, Thomas Kalament IV and Carlynn Kalament; and a brother–in–law, Ronald Olszewski of Rotterdam.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service.

Interment will be at St. Cyril's Cemetery, Rotterdam.

Contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in his memory.

Helen Irene Bowers Lachtrupp
West Charlton -- Mrs. Helen Irene Bowers Lachtrupp, 88, of Sacandaga Road, West Charlton, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Ellis Hospital.
Mr. Lachtrupp was born in Schenectady and was a graduate of the former Schenectady High School and Spencer Business College. She was employed by the Carl Company of Mayfair.

Mrs. Lachtrupp was a member of the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church, serving on many committees, including the Turkey Supper and Ladies Auxiliary of the West Charlton Fire Department.

She was the widow of Christian (Dutch) Lachtrupp; mother of Frederick G. Lachtrupp of West Charlton and the late Ronald L. Lachtrupp; mother-in-law of Ann Lachtrupp of West Charlton; sister of Dorothy Morack of West Charlton; grandmother of David and his wife Bonnie Lachtrupp of Waterbury, VT and Diane Lachtrupp Martinez and her husband Johnny Martinez of Brooklyn, NY; and great-grandmother of Jeremy, Gregory, Cara Lachtrupp and Joey Martinez. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday 11:30 a.m. at the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church, corner of Rt. 147 and Rt. 67. Calling hours will start this morning at 10 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be at West Charlton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to West Charlton Presbyterian Church or West Charlton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home Inc., Galway.

Barbara A. (Hilts) LaGalles
Ballston Spa -- Barbara A. (Hilts) LaGalles, 55, of Court Street, Ballston Spa, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born in Syracuse on March 1, 1947, she moved to Burnt Hills in 1964 and graduated from Burnt Hills–Ballston Lake High School. She moved to Ballston Spa in 1968. She was the owner and operator of United Hairlines in Ballston Spa for 23 years. She was a member of TOPS #898 and Saratoga County After the Fire.

Barb was always there to help anyone in need. She loved the ocean and visited every summer.

Survivors include her husband, Paul LaGalles; daughter, Erika Mattrazzo of Ballston Spa and best friends Betty MacMillan, Carol Hannah, Kathy Hedgeman and Jennifer Hersh, all of Ballston Spa.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Calling hours will precede the service from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Edith Martin
Rotterdam -- Edith (Grabowski) Martin, 82, of Sixth St., Scotia, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at the Hallmark Nursing Centre, Rotterdam, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Martin was born on October 31, 1919 to Walter and Stella (Shaluga) Grabowski of Amsterdam and was a lifetime resident of Scotia after her marriage to Frank “Pepper” Martin, who predeceased her in December 1987. She was the sole survivor of her family.

Edith was a homemaker and a 25 year employee of the Lower Mohawk Club in Schenectady. She was a member of the Scotia–Glenville Seniors, as well as the St. Joseph's Leisure Club, of which she held the office of secretary. In earlier years, she was an active member of the Scotia Little League Auxilary and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Anthony and Barbara Martin of Yaphank, NY and James and Helene Martin of Rotterdam; one daughter, Susan Shannon of Key West, FL; granddaughters Erica Martin of Pennsylvania and Meeghan Martin of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandson Nicholas Shannon of Key West, FL; nieces Carol Vanderwerken of Schenectady, Carole, Jeanette and Marie Wekzner of Schenectady and Scotia and nephews Michael Polozie of Rochester, Tim and Michael Weirzbicki of Schenectady and Michael Wekzner of Pattersonville.

Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Bekkering–Ellis Funeral Home, Inc., Scotia, then to St. Joseph's Church, First Street, Scotia, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. The funeral home will be open today from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish to call.

Interment will be at Park Cemetery, Sacandaga Road, Scotia.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to The Community Hospice of Schenectady and Amsterdam County, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308 or to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211.

Scott M. Murray
Winter Park, FL -- Scott M. Murray, 27, formerly of Niskayuna, NY died Tuesday evening, April 2, 2002, when struck by a car outside his home in Winter Park.
Scott was born March 7, 1975 in Niskayuna. He graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1994 and earned a B.A., Magna Cum Laude, from Beacon College in Leesburg, FL in 1998. Scott had been an usher at the Regal Cinema in Winter Park for three years, and he was an avid movie enthusiast.

Disabled as a result of a childhood brain tumor, he strove to live independently. He accomplished his dream, living in Winter Park. His family wishes to thank all who befriended him.

Scott is survived by his parents, Jill and Scott Murray, and sisters Alissa and Sarah Murray. He also leaves behind loving grandparents, Elizabeth and David Murray of Yarmouthport, MA and Guy and Doris Purdy of Lakeland, FL.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the First Unitarian Society, 1221 Wendell Avenue, Schenectady.

The family requests that donations be made to the Albany Ronald McDonald House Charities, 139 South Lake Avenue, Albany, NY 12208.

Frances A. O'Brien
Schenectady -- Frances A. O'Brien, 78, of Schenectady, died Wednesday at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, she was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Mrs. O'Brien worked as a cashier for J. M. Fields, Woolworth's and Caldor, from which she retired after many years of service.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Mrs. O'Brien's husband of 37 years, Garrett M. O'Brien, Sr., died in 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Garrett M. O'Brien, Jr. and his wife Sandi of Sunnyvale, CA, and Kenneth R. O'Brien and his wife Lorena of Glenville; two sisters, Antoinette Czubryt of Adams, MA and Sister Athanasia C.R. of Castleton, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by two sisters, Helen Wantlezies and Irene Mahar.

A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady, followed at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bradt St., Schenectady, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. There will be no calling hours by request.

Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ellis Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1015, Schenectady, NY 12301–1015

Merle E. Ostrander
Guilderland -- Merle E. (Emory) Ostrander, 91, died April 4, 2002.
She was the wife of the late William Ostrander, who died in 1977. Survivors include a stepson, William Ostrander, Jr. of Albany, and her nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m. in the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road (just off Route 50), East Glenville.

Marie Molnar Pawlak
Rotterdam -- Marie Molnar Pawlak, 51, of Palmer Ave., Rotterdam, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, unexpectedly, at her residence.
Born on February 1, 1951, in Albany, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. Molnar and Anna Rusinovich Molnar of Rotterdam. She lived all her life in the Capital District and was a graduate of Mohonason High School. She was also a graduate of Schenectady Community College.

Marie was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and the Polish American Veterans of Schenectady. She was a loving wife and mother who very much enjoyed her life with her family.

Survivors include her husband, John M. Pawlak, Sr. of Rotterdam, whom she married on July 10, 1976; a son, John M. Pawlak, Jr. of Rotterdam; two daughters, Katie Croote of Schenectady and Melissa Pawlak of Rotterdam; two brothers, John J. Molnar of Maine and Frank Molnar of Schenectady; two sisters, Ann Marie Gravell and Marian Morris, both of Schenectady; three grandchildren, Mark Croote of Burnt Hills and Jehthyus and Dreniah Chandler, both of Schenectady; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today at 8:15 a.m. at the Light's Funeral Home, followed at 9 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours were from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church, corner of Albany St. and King's Road, Schenectady, NY 12304.

Grace A. Prest
West Grove, PA -- Grace A. Prest, 84, died peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Jenner's Pond Retirement Community, West Grove, PA, surrounded by family and friends. She was a native of Pennsylvania, but lived in Bear, DE for nearly 50 years prior to coming to Jenner's Pond.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Prest; a son–in–law, Alan Krieger; a grandson, Jon Krieger of Dunaesburg; a brother, Richard W. Arnold of Norfolk, VA; and by a large circle of dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Prest, in 1983.

A lifelong birder and environmentalist, she was active in the Wildlife Federation, Delmarva Ornithological Society, Delaware Wild Lands, and Delaware Nature Education Society. She was active in protecting wetlands along the Delaware River and in the movement to preserve White Clay Creek as a natural area. She shared her lifelong love of nature with all who knew her.

A memorial service and celebration of Grace's life will be held on Wednesday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Newark, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Wild Lands, 315 E. Main St., Odessa, DE or to Jennersville Regional Hospice, 2217 Old Baltimore Pike, Oxford, PA 19363.

Peter M. Slover, Jr.
Los Angeles, CA -- Peter M. Slover, Jr., 24, died suddenly in Los Angeles on April 1, 2002.
Pete was born in Amsterdam, on January 29, 1978. He graduated from Niskayuna High School, then served in the U.S. Army as an artilleryman (forward observer in Korea). Pete also was a member of the “C” Company in the 104th Infantry in the Army National Guard in Massachusetts. Peter had lived in Albany prior to moving to L.A. recently.

He is survived by his parents, Peter M. Slover, Sr. and Andrea Dworkin Slover of Scotia; his stepbrother, Arthur Tracy of West Babylon, NY; two stepsisters, Karen Santa Barbara of Glenville and Kim DiCamillo of West Newbury, MA; his maternal grandmother, Doris Dworkin of Worcester, MA; his paternal grandmother, Nellie Mae Coulson of Naples, FL.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville, with Rev. Janice Rowell officiating. Calling hours will be held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Peter will be laid to rest with full military honors on Monday at the Gerald Solomon National Cemetery.

Contributions in Peter Slover, Jr.'s memory may be made to the Neonatal Unit at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, NY.

Marie M. Taylor
Hudson -- Marie M. Taylor, 75, of Coxsackie, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, after a long illness.
Born in Mechanicville on June 27, 1926, she was the daughter of Gus and Anna Gonley Olin. She resided on Richard Drive in Colonie for many years and attended high school in Mechanicville. She was a homemaker and was very active in various groups that her late husband, Stanley, was also active in.

She was the wife of Stanley George Taylor, whom she married September 13, 1945. He died on December 16, 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonita L. Hunt of Catskill; two sisters, Alice DePaul of Mechanicville and Agnes Olin of Cohoes; and one grandson, Scott Collins of Colonie; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at the Baxter–Andrew Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, with the Rev. George Brucker officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Childrens Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.

Arrangements are by the Baxter–Andrew Funeral Home.

Robert Strong Tisdale

Halfmoon -- Robert Strong Tisdale, 63, of Vosburgh Trailer Park, died at home Tuesday, April 2, 2002.

Survivors include his sister, Mrs. Mildred Tisdale Ambuhl, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Williamsburg Funeral Chapel in Kingstree, SC.

Burial will be at the Tisdale Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
