John Edward Miller
Middleburgh -- John Edward Miller, 78, of Windy Ridge Rd., died Sunday, June 1, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a long illness.
Mr. Miller was born September 10, 1924 in Bronx, NY, the son of William and Anettia Miller. He has lived in the Middleburgh area all of his married life. Mr. Miller was employed at the Army Depot in Rotterdam for many years and then retired in 1990 from General Electric in Schenectady where he was an order specialist. He served as a volunteer for the Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and he was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Mr. Miller was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was active from 1957 to receiving an honorable discharge in 1960.

Mr. Miller was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Miller, who died January 5, 1992, his parents, and a brother, William Miller.

Survivors include a daughter, Valerie Wilson of Jefferson; four sons, Cal Miller of Schoharie, Greg Miller and Richard Miller, both of Middleburgh and Matthew Miller of Cooperstown; a sister, Betty Engler of Schenectady; a brother, James Miller of Glens Falls and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, at the Palmer & Shaylor, Inc. Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh.

Cremation will follow and burial will be private, at a later date in Middleburgh Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corp., Inc. P.O. Box 817, Middleburgh, NY 12122.

Donald S. Munger
Scotia -- Donald S. Munger, 75, of Barry Lane, died on Friday, May 30, 2003 after a short illness.
Don was born on April 20, 1928 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was the son of the late Lynn S. and Florence H. Munger. He graduated from North Side High in 1946 with an accomplished record in basketball, track and debating. Don graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 1955 with a degree in business. He was a senior computer systems analyst with General Electric for more than 35 years. Don was a pioneer and innovator in the creation and development of computer software. He supervised computer program development until he retired in 1991. For Don, family came first; he also enjoyed sailing, investments, cars and gardening.

Ensign Don Munger served as a Navy pilot during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Roosevelt. He ended his four year tour of duty with the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant, J.G.

Don was the loving husband of Janet Taylor Munger, they were married 51 years ago in Brooklyn, NY.

He was the beloved father of Lynn T. Munger and his wife, Dorothy of Niskayuna and Donna M. Evans and her husband, Robert of Niskayuna; beloved “Gramps” of Amy, Kelly and Laura Munger and Ryan and Adam Evans; brother of Stanley H. Munger and his wife, Helen of Rumson, NJ; uncle of John, Steven, and Peter Munger.

Services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of Upstate NY, 14 Summit Road, Delmar, NY 12054, or to the American Cancer Society, Schenectady County Unit, P.O. Box 1480, Syracuse, NY 13201.

Virginia T. Pickett
Cobleskill -- Interment service for Virginia T. Pickett who died March 12 will be held graveside in Bramanville Cemetery, Town of Cobleskill on Saturday, June 7 at 11 a.m.

Daniel Rose
Amsterdam -- A Graveside Committal Service will be held for Daniel Rose on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Chuctanunda Cemetery in Minaville, NY, with the Rev. Derek DeJager presiding.

George W. Rosenberg
Albany -- George W. Rosenberg, 81, passed away on May 29, 2003 at St. Peter's Hospital.
George was born in Canton, NY on May 7, 1922, the son of Roy and Lucy Place Rosenberg. He served in the Army during WWII, 1942 to 1945 in the Pacific Theatre with the 227th Station Hospital. George was employed at the Massena Alcoa Aluminum Company of America for 42 years, retiring in August 1983.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joyce Baker Rosenberg, whom he married on May 12, 1943 in Trinity Episcopal Church in Potsdam; two daughters and their husbands, Gail and Ron Bolster of Galway and Georgia and Jim Barnack of Orchard Park, NY; and his grandsons, Kevin Bolster and his wife, Kathryn of Syracuse, Kyle Bolster and his fiancee, Shara Gallaro of Rochester and James T. Barnack of Orchard Park, NY.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Walter and brother, Earl.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Friday, June 6 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Interment will follow the service in the B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 21 Hackett Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

Raymond J. Sinda
Amsterdam -- Raymond J. Sinda, 77, of State Highway 30, Amsterdam, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, after being stricken at his home.
Born in Amsterdam on July 24, 1925 he was the son of Anthony and Victoria Knapik Sinda. He was a 1943 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Sinda was a WWII Navy Veteran. In May of 1955 he joined the New York Life Insurance Company as a field agent. He received the Coveted Award of Charter Life Underwriter by the American College of Bryn Mawr in Pennsylvania. He was also a life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. Mr. Sinda was very active in local community affairs. He was one of the founders of the Amsterdam Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1964–65 he served as President for the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Sinda was a communicant of St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Irene Knapp Sinda, whom he married on September 28, 1952.

He is also survived by his son, Richard J. Sinda of Scarborough, ME; his daughter, Gretchen M. Fodor and her husband, George of Derry, NH; two grandsons, Albert W. Franzheim III, and Andrew J. Franzheim, both of Derry, NH; his sister, Phyllis Korona and her husband, Leonard of Amsterdam; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Sinda was predeceased by his sister, Lottie Sitterly and his brother, Edmund Sinda.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, with the Rev. Ronald Matulewicz officiating.

Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Sinda's memory to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Stephen's Church.

Charles L. Skinner Sr.
Fultonville -- Charles L. Skinner Sr. , 88, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday at11 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Interment will follow in Maple Ave. Cemetery, Fultonville. Calling hours begin Wednesday 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Contributions to the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation Scholarship Fund, 427 Guy Pk, Amsterdam, 12010.

Julia H. Spany
Schenectady -- Julia H. Spany, 79, of George Street, died Saturday at St. Clare's Hospital.
She was born in Schenectady on February 15, 1924 to Joseph and Mary Rehak Spany. Julia graduated from the former Mont Pleasant High School and was a Payroll Clerk at General Electric Co. for over 40 years.

She was a member of the former Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church and currently a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the G.E. Quarter Century Club.

Survivors include three loving sisters, Wilhelima Spany, Mary Cipollo and Christina Spany, all of Schenectady and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, John, Joseph and Cyril Spany.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Ave., Tuesday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, Rotterdam.

The family suggests memorial donations to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady, NY 12303.

Pamela Peterson Stryker
Charlton -- Pamela Peterson Stryker, 52, of Old Stage Road, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at home with her family by her side.
Pam was born in Schenectady on June 16, 1950. The daughter of Delores “Dee” Peterson and the late Robert Peterson.

Pam graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and was employed as a secretary at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at SUNY Albany. She was a lifelong member of Broadway Methodist Church.

Pam was the wife of the late William E. Stryker who died on January 30, 1991.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Lynne and Alyson Marie Stryker; brothers, Bruce Peterson and Kenneth Peterson; mother-in-law, Jean Stryker; sister-in-law, Linda Stryker Phillips, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4, at 1 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., E. Glenville, with Rev. Ernie Varga officiating. A calling hour will precede the services from 12 to 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Viewland Cemetery, Rotterdam.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Pam's name to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, 12308 or to the American Cancer Society, 55 New Karner Rd., Albany 12205.

Salvatore Sutera
Schenectady -- Salvatore Sutera, 82, of Schenectady, died Saturday at Ellis Hospital.
Born and educated in Favata, Italy, Salvatore was a police officer for the Italian railroad. He came to the United States in 1954. He began working for the General Electric in 1965 and retired in 1983 after 18 years of service. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

His wife, Maria Ingrassio Sutera, died February 15, 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Josephine “Jo” and Gary Cornelius of Glenville; one son, Frank and Laura Sutera of Cromwell, CT; six grandchildren, Teresajean and Gary John Cornelius II of Glenville, and Daniel, Nicholas, Marissa and Amanda Sutera of Cromwell, CT. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Dominic, Frank, Carmela and Lela, all of Italy; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, at DeMarco–Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., thence to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Rosa Rd., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. A calling hour, to which relatives and friends are invited, will precede the service at the funeral home from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Ruth Thorpe Tate
Schenectady -- Ruth Thorpe Tate, 92, of Selden Street died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at the Glendale Home.
Born in Delanson, Ruth moved to Schenectady in 1967. She was a former member of the Schenectady Senior Citizens.

Her husband, Melvin H. Tate, died September 9, 1966. She was also predeceased by two sons, George and William Tate.

Ruth is survived by her son, Everett Tate of Schenectady; her daughter, Marion Burtis of Schenectady; 12 grandchildren, 13 great–grandchildren and three great great–grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the DeMarco–Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral.

Interment is at Esperance Cemetery.

Arrangements by the White–Van Buren Funeral Home, Delanson.

Raymond A. VanPatten
Scotia -- Raymond A. VanPatten, 72, died Fri. at St. Clare's Hospital. Services will be held graveside at Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam on Thursday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. Contributions to Make a Wish Foundation of NE NY, Inc., 950 Loudon Rd., Latham 12110.

Stephen L. Yager
Burnt Hills -- Stephen L. Yager, 84, of Kingsley Road, died May 31, 2003 at Ann Lee Nursing Home in Colonie, NY.
He was born in Niskayuna, NY and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Yager was a self–employed contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII, serving in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was a former member of the Niskayuna Fire Department. Mr. Yager was a member of the Niskayuna Dutch Reformed Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian M. Yager, who died in 1997.

He is survived by a son, Richard Yager of Burnt Hills.

Private services will be held.

Arrangements are by Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Rt. 146, Ballston Lake.
