RHUDA, JEMMA - Jemma Rhuda, 85, of Hawthorne and formerly of Bronx, NY, died on Feb. 6, 2001 at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains, NY. She was born on April 4, 1915 to Nicholas and Marrietta (nee DeCristofaro) DiSanto in the Bronx. Jemma is predeceased by her husband Charles Rhuda Sr. in 1972, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by 1 son, Charles Rhuda of Mahopac, NY, 1 daughter, Arlene Sheehan of Mt. Kisco, NY, also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. ROHR, MELVIN - Melvin Rohr, Eastchester resident since 1971. Born November 16, 1930, New York City. Lost battle with cancer February 6, 2001. Served in the Army until 1953. Worked for General Foods until 1988 and most recently at Interprocess of Stamford, CT. Mel is survived by his beloved wife, Helen, and their four children, Sandy Albanese, Debbie Godwin, Laura Ackerly, Adam Rohr. Beloved grandfather to Noelle, Amanda, Danielle, Michael, Genevieve, Ross. Loving brother to Harriet Rohr, Phil Rohr and son of Adele Rohr. Mel will be greatly missed by Hank and Rene Sperling, also by extended family and many friends. The funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 12 noon at Garlick Chapel, 1091 Yonkers Ave. Donations to cancer research would be greatly appreciated, in lieu of flowers.

SANTINI, JOHN A. - John A. Santini of Watertown, Mass., formerly of Garnerville, NY died suddenly in Boston, Mass. He was 49. Son of August and Rita, he was born June 18, 1951 in New York City. He was a graduate of Haverstraw High School, received his associates from Rockland Community College, Bachelors from St. Thomas Aquinas and Masters from Iona College. John served in the US Navy and was a former member of David B. Roche volunteer Fire Department. He worked in Boston as a consultant for Fidelity Investments John is survived by his wife, Maria and his father, August "Augie" of Garnerville. SPARTA, ANTHONY - Anthony Sparta, a resident of Bennington, VT, and formerly of Dobbs Ferry, NY, died on February 4, in Bennington at the age of 91. SPENCER, JAMES PETER - James Peter Spencer, a resident of Deming, NM and formerly of White Plains, NY, died Saturday, February 3, 2001 at the age of 63 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. James was a self-employed photographer. He is survived by his Mother, Ann Campbell of White Plains, NY; his brothers, John William Spencer of White Plains and Mayor John Daniel Spencer of Yonkers; his sister Elizabeth Zellman of White Plains; three nephews and two nieces. WILTSE, GLORIA J. - Gloria J. Wiltse died peacefully at her home in Somers on February 6, 2001. She was 66. Mrs. Wiltse was born October 20, 1934 in Rickford, PA to William McKinley Frost and Lucille Frost (nee McKelvey); she survives. Beloved wife of the late Sheldon. WOOD, GRACE TURNER - Mrs. Grace Turner Wood passed away Sunday evening following a short illness. Mrs. Wood was born on April 28, 1910 in South Swansea, Massachusetts, the daughter of Arthur and Ella (Hodgson) Turner and she lived in Fall River, Massachusetts for many years. She was the sister of Lois Brex and Ella Smith, both of Rhode Island and was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Turner, and a sister, Ruth Turner. Mrs. Wood had three nephews and a niece and many great nephews and nieces. She graduated from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts in 1932, and went to work at the Educational Records Bureau and at Columbia University. She married Professor Ben D. Wood. Dr. Wood was a Professor of Collegiate Educational Research at Columbia College. Mrs. Wood served as the Treasurer of the American Literacy Council for many years, she was interested in Environmental issues and was a benefactor to many charitable causes. A memorial service will be held this spring. ALFERO, GERTRUD C. - Gertrud C. Alfero, 79, of Fredericksburg, VA, died unexpectedly December 16, 2001 in Silver City, NM. Born in Berlin, Germany and a longtime resident of White Plains, Mrs. Alfero was the widow of Frank J. Alfero. Survivors include one daughter, Hedda E. Panek of Fredricksburg, two sons, Detlefk Reuss of Irvington, NY and Charles L. Alfero of Silver City, NM, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. BASCHKIN, BERNARD BORIS - Bernard Boris Baschkin of Rye, died February 5, 2001 at age 73. Born December 31, 1927 in Berlin, Germany to Esay and Anna Poliakoff Baschkin. Immigrated to New York in Spring in 1939. Graduated Syracuse University 1952. On August 7, 1955 he married his Beloved and Adored Millicent (nee D. Auerbach). Served in the US Coast Guard, member of Rotary Club of Harrison, Past President of the Scarsdale Synagogue/Tremont Temple, founder and president of InterDok Corp. BISCONTI, HELEN MARY ROHAN - Helen Mary Rohan Bisconti a long time resident of Bronxville Manor, NY died peacefully at her home on February 5, 2001. Helen Bisconti was 89 years of age. Helen was born on December 2, 1911, in the Yorkville section of New York City to Patrick and Ellen Madden Rohan. Mrs. Bisconti was educated at the Saint Lawrence Academy and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY in 1937. After graduation Helen worked as a social worker at the Angel Guardian Home in Brooklyn and remained dedicated to the Mission of Angel Guardian throughout her life. On September 25, 1940 Helen Rohan married Dr. Peter Vincent Bisconti at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City. Mrs. Bisconti is survived by her husband of sixty years Dr. Peter V. Bisconti, her children Peter V. Bisconti of Mount Vernon, NY, Helen A. Tobin of Pelham Manor, NY, Margaret R. Monroe of Ridgefield, CT, Robert F. Bisconti of Mount Vernon, NY, Virginia G. Bisconti of Mamaroneck, NY, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mrs. Bisconti was pre-deceased by her first great-grandchild Katherine Anne Chester. BRUZZO, DOLORES - Dolores Bruzzo, formerly of Hillsdale, NJ, entered into eternal rest on February 2, 2001 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY. She was 72. She was born January 26, 1929 in West New York, NJ, the daughter of the late Maria and Alessandro Zocchio. Mrs. Bruzzo was employed for many years as an embroiderer. She loved a good joke and loved to share them with others. Her last words were, "Use your families‘ love and wrap it around you. Please do not let this upset you in any way. My life has come to an end...I want everything peacefully done like everything else." She was a loving and devoted mother to Louis Bruzzo, her twins, Elise Bruzzo Dohrmann, and Alex Bruzzo; and loving grandmother to Matthew Bruzzo, Eric Bruzzo, and loving Grandma to Christopher Dohrmann. Also surviving her are her husband of 49 years, Florido Bruzzo, and her beloved sisters, Adele Grigolo and Ruth Bertinato. Her dearest friends, Louise and Maggie, and many other loving, dearest friends and relatives. She also leaves behind her loving relatives in Italy. She has joined her beloved brothers, Harry and Richard Zocchio in Heaven whom she missed so dearly in her life. Cremation was at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Inc, Cherry Valley. Born on August 23, 1911 to Frank and Ortenzia Errico, Mrs. Canty was employed in the Nurses Office by the Ramapo Central School District for many years and was active in the Board of Elections. Bridget is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John J. Canty and a son Michael Canty. She was a devoted mother to Thomas of Suffern, Alan of Hillburn, and John of Tennessee, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. CIFFOLILLO, NICHOLAS - Nicholas Ciffolillo passed away on Monday February 5, 2001. He was 90. Nicholas was born on February 19, 1910 in Vasto, Italy. He came to the United States in 1926. He became a successful landscape designer and owner of a nursery. Mr. Ciffolillo is predeceased by his wife Laura and leaves behind a son Michael and a daughter Rosemary, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. COLEMAN, HENRY DAINO - Henry Daino Coleman, "Daino,” 43, died on Friday, February 2, 2001. He spent 8 years in the Army where he received many citations. He continued to work for the U.S. Navy until his death. He was born April 23, 1957 at Westchester Medical Center. He lived in Greenburgh until his relocation to Maryland in 1982. A loving husband, son and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Amy, daughter Jasmin, 4 stepchildren and 1 grandchild of Springdale, MD. He is also survived by his parents, Dorothy Gamble Coleman and Henry D. Coleman of Greensboro, N.C., sister, Phyllis Pinckney of Greensboro, N.C., and a brother, Michael Coleman of Shreveport, LA. BAGLANEAS, REVEREND THEODORE E. - Reverend Theodore E. Baglaneas, formerly of New York, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod, died Saturday. He was the husband of the late Mary (Joakim) Baglaneas. He is survived by a son, John T. Baglaneas of Northboro, MA, and a daughter, Anita Devlin of Centerville, MA, also a brother Spiros Baglaneas and sister Toula Baglaneas, both of Athens, Greece, also four grandchildren. A Presanctified Liturgy will begin at 9am Tuesday at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Route 28, Centerville, MA, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 am. BYRNE, FRANK "BROTHER" - Frank Byrne of Irvington, NY, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 75. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Minich), whom he was married to for 49 years, and their several children, Michael of Yonkers, Daniel of Putnam Valley, Gerard of Ossining, Isabel (Milano) of Irvington, Noreen (Degnan) of Irvington, Edward of New York City, and Kathleen (Canfield) of Ardsley. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Trishia, and Kevin Byrne; Brendan and Molly Byrne; Justin and Sarah Milano; Kaitlin, Sean, Kevin and Kelly Degnan and Megan Canfield. Also surviving him are two brothers; John of Tarrytown and William of Waukegan, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Thomas, James and Joseph Byrne and one grandson, Matthew Paul Byrne, one daughter-in-law, Paula (Young) Byrne. "Brother" Byrne was born April 18, 1925, the fourth son of James and Mary (McCabe) Byrne in Tarrytown, NY. He graduated from the Irving School in Tarrytown in 1948 and Packard Junior College in 1951. He also attended St. Bonaventure College on a football scholarship. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in US Marine Corps with an honorable discharge in February 1946. He worked for Cooney Brothers of Tarrytown, Westchester Concrete of Tarrytown, and was a vice president of Wren Line Trucking of Elmsford. During his career he was a concrete plant manager for a variety of big construction projects in the 1950‘s, 1960‘s, and 1970‘s including work on the New York State Thruway and Tappan Zee Bridge, Route 84, Route 17, and Indian Point 1, 2, and 3. He also was the co-founder and co-owner of Isabel‘s Cafe in Tarrytown. He raised his family in Ardsley and all seven of his children were graduates of Ardsley High School. He and his wife, Jane, lived for a short time in Wilmington, NC and Toms River, NJ, before returning to Westchester County two years ago. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Irvington. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington. Burial will be at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, NY. CAPOSSELA, JOSEPH J. - Joseph J. Capossela of Ossining and former resident of North Tarrytown died April 7, 2001. He was 99. Mr. Capossela was born April 30, 1901 to Giovanni and Gaetana Cioffi Capossela in Pocantico Hills. Many years ago he ran a private garbage contracting business for the Village of North Tarrytown. He then worked as a caretaker on local estates. He was a member of the Pocantico Hook & Ladder Company of the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department for 75 years, the Golden Age Club No. 1 of Ossining and many years earlier, he was a member of the N. Tarrytown Auxiliary Police. Mr. Capossela is survived by his children John of Saugerties, NY, Marie O‘Mahoney of Santa Monica, CA and Shirley Helms of Winchester, VA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his brother Patsy of Tarrytown. Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. ELDREDGE, HARRY VAN NESS - Harry Van Ness Eldredge of New City died on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Nyack Hospital. He was 81 years old. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 17, 1920 to Edna Creighton and Harry Eldredge, he was a resident of New City for over 30 years. Harry was predeceased by Elizabeth Ralston Eldredge, his devoted wife of 55 years. Harry was a graduate of the Class of 1941 of Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. He then entered the Army Air Force where he served as a First Lieutenant in India during World War II. Upon his discharge from the Army he entered Dickinson Law School in Carlisle, PA where he received his J.D. Degree in 1949. He and Libbie moved to Tappan, NY, and Harry worked as a lawyer for Moore-McCormick Shipping Lines. Harry returned to school part time studying English Literature and received a Masters Degree from Columbia University. Harry then made a career change to teaching and taught English and was Department Chair for many years. He retired on June 30, 1982 after 26 years at Dumont High School, Dumont, NJ. Harry was very active in his retirement. He was a literary volunteer at the New City Library as well as a research assistant for the Rockland Historical Society and the Surrogate Court of Rockland County. He was an active member of the Board of Elections, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Clarkstown Memorial Post 851. He was honored as their "Man of the Year" on May 25, 1998. Much of Harry‘s time was spent as the doting and devoted "grampa" of Michael, Kristin, Sean, and Timothy Buckley. Harry is survived by his loving brother and sister-in-law, Creighton "Jack" and Naomi Eldredge of Englewood, FL, two nieces, Jeanne and Christine and several grandnieces and grandnephews, all of Florida. He will be sorely missed by his many devoted friends. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 10:30 am at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City. FLUHLER, ROSA MARY - Rosa Mary Fluhler, a Croton resident since 1959, died Saturday at her home. She was 77. A native of Switzerland, she is survived by her husband Norbert Fluhler, two sons, Herbert of Madison, AL, Eric, of Washingtonville, NY, a daughter, Theresa Sicard of Huntington Station, NY, and their spouses, and eight grandchildren, and three sisters in Switzerland. Funeral services are private. Contributions to Phelps Hospice are welcomed.
