O'SHEA, JOHN M. - John M. O'Shea, Jr. 44, died suddenly on October 18, 2002. John was born November 21, 1957 to John, Sr. and Veronica Tarrant O'Shea in New York City. In July of 1993, he married Patricia Kollar in New York City where they lived until moving to Mahopac four years ago. John is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, and his loving sons: John and Harry. He is also survived by his brother Brian, and two sisters: Susan Johnson and Patricia O'Shea. PATTON, ALICE MARGARET MARY - Alice Margaret Mary Patton of White Plains died October 15, 2002 of complications following pulmonary arrest. She was 87. Born December 7, 1914 in the Bronx, NY to Evelyn O'Neill Patton, she was a school teacher for the New York City Board of Education and a graduate of Columbia University with a Master's Degree in Education. A former resident of Rye, she was a White Plains resident for 21 years. She was a member of St. John The Evangelist Church in White Plains. Miss Patton was predeceased by her brother, William Francis Patton, and sister, Evelyn Veronica Patton. There are no immediate survivors. SACCHINELLI, JAMES A. - James A. Sacchinelli, 84, of Eastchester, died on October 17, 2002. Beloved husband of the late Angelina. Loving father of Rosalie Murray, Bernadette Scally, and Maryann Polk. Dear brother of Alfonse and Anna Sacchinelli, and the late Frank, Fred, Ernest and Dominick Sacchinelli, Sophie Bouno, and Anna Toppetta. Cherished grandfather of James and Paul Murray, Anne and John Scally, and Samantha and Douglas Polk. James was born in Newark, NJ, on October 18, 1917 to Nicola and Rosina Toscano Sacchinelli. SKRZYPCZAK, STANLEY - Stanley Skrzypczak, a resident of Westtown, NY for the past year, and a former longtime resident of Port Chester, died October 18, 2002. He was 88 and born May 8, 1914 in Port Chester, NY to the late Anthony and Anna Kasica Skrzypczak. He was raised and educated in Poland and and graduated from Teachers College in Poland. He was then a teacher in Poland. He served in the Polish Army under the British Command. He returned to the United States, settling in Port Chester in 1949. He was married May 13, 1951 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church to Stephanie Zadlo. He was a Mechanical Inspector for the Electrolux Corporation in Greenwich, CT for 26 years until his retirement. He also privately taught English and Polish. He was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Port Chester, a member of the Polish National Alliance and their society: Thaddeus Kosciuszko Society Lodge #1282 and was the Financial Secretary for 46 years, and a member of the Polish Veterans' Association. Mr. Skrzypczak is survived by his son, Stanley M. Skrzypczak of Loveland, OH; daughter, Diana Nardone and her husband Carlo of Westtown, NY; brother, Matthew Skrzypczak of Port Chester, NY; sister Maryla Cole of Gainsville, FL; and grandchildren: Carlo A. Nardone, Jr., Peter A. Nardone, Casey Marie Nardone, Amy Skrzypczak and Molly Skrzypczak. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Wanda. TREVILLIAN, THELMA W. - Thelma W. Trevillian, 92, of Croton, NY died peacefully at Tarrytown Hall on October 15, 2002. Ms. Trevillian was born on December 14, 1909 to Ellen Cruger Trevillian and Alfred L. Trevillian in Tarrytown. She lived in Tarrytown into her twenties and then moved to White Plains. She worked as a secretary for Chevrolet and G.M. in Tarrytown and then owned a restaurant in Millwood. In 1941 she became the proprietor of Old Post Road Liquors in Croton-on-Hudson until her retirement. Thelma was an avid knitter and seamstress. She also adored animals and the New York Yankees. As she put it, "We're all Yankees at heart!" A private Memorial Service will be held for her. Contributions can be made to the A.S.P.C.A. of Briarcliff Manor, NY.

YAVORSKE, ELMER A. - Elmer A. Yavorske, a long time Irvington resident, died Tuesday, October 15, 2002. Mr. Yavorske was born on May 1, 1919 in Syracuse, NY to Andrew and Bertha Sopko Yavorske. He served in the United States Navy from 1937 to 1947. After the Service, he worked in a managerial position at General Motors in Tarrytown. Mr. Yavorske was a member of the Elks Club in White Plains and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. On August 14, 1942 Elmer married Charlotte Lamb in Yonkers. Mrs. Yavorske died in 1992. He enjoyed and was a successful gardener. Survivors include one sister, Ann Marie Cusano, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters: Agnes Kessler and Irene Torio, and two brothers: James and Albert. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, October 21, 2002, 10 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Irvington. AYASO, JOSE - Jose Ayaso of Larchmont died October 18, 2002. At age 83. Born March 16, 1919 in Aguino, Spain where he was employed as a fisherman before coming to America. BAKER, MARJORIE HUNT - Marjorie Hunt Baker of New Rochelle, NY, on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at Mt. Vernon Hospital. She was 100 years old. Mrs. Baker was born January 1, 1902 in Mt. Vernon to the late Samuel and Rebecca (Mills) Hunt Sr. She lived in Manhattan for many years before relocating to New Rochelle. She was a member of Convent Avenue Baptist Church in NYC. She is survived by two sons, James "Sonny" Boone and Daniel Boone, daughter Geraldine Boone Stirrup and two brothers Clarence and Jon E. Hunt. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore Baker, two children, two grandchildren, three brothers and six sisters predeceased her. Viewing Sunday, October 20 from 2-8 pm at LEE O. CAPOSSELA, CARMEN - Carmen Capossela of Sleepy Hollow, died on October 16, at the age of 87. The cause of death was complications from cancer. He was born in North Tarrytown (now Sleepy Hollow) and lived his entire life in that village to Antonio and Emanuela Addinizio Capossela. He enlisted in the wartime Navy in 1943 and served, among our places in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He was honorably discharged in 1945, having earned the American Defense Award and the Victory Medal. One of the first licensed electricians in the village, Capossela later worked for 42 years at General Motors Assembly Plant in North Tarrytown, ending his career as a foreman. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and made many trips to Maine and to Canada pursuing these interests. As a member of Rescue Hose Fire Company, he was an active fireman for more than 67 years, and held every important post in the North Tarrytown Fire Department. He was president of Rescue Hose (three times), recording secretary of that company, Fire Warden, Second Assistant Chief, First Assistant Chief, and from 1949-50, Chief of the fire department. He chaired innumerable parade committees, including the Hudson Valley Volunteer Fireman's Association (HVVFA) convention parades in 1962 and again in 1987. Capossela was also a delegate to HVVFA and to the Westchester County Volunteer Firemen's Association. For nearly 40 years, he served as director and at times treasurer of the Tarrytown Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Association ("the Benevolent"). In 2000, the Apparatus Room of Rescue Hose was dedicated to him. Capossela was very active in other civic and social organizations in the Tarrytown area. He was a longtime member of the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, an Honorary Member of Union Hose Fire Company, an Honorary Life Member of the Washington Irving Boat Club, a member of the National Sokol Club, a member of the American Legion, an Associate Member of the VFW, and a member and director of the Tarrytown Rifle and Pistol Club, among other groups. The American Legion Spencer Kelly Post 267 will meet for a service at 2:30 pm Sunday. Capossela predeceased his daughter, Carolee, by less than a day. He is survived by his wife Josephine, of Sleepy Hollow, son Jim, of Ossining, brother Anthony of Florida, sisters Rose and Yolanda of Sleepy Hollow, sister Fay of Briarcliff Manor, brother Ron of Sleepy Hollow and more than 20 nephews and nieces. Visitors may call at the Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown on Sunday, October 20, between 2 pm and 4 pm and between 7 pm and 9 pm. A funeral mass for he and his daughter will be held at Holy Cross Church in Sleepy Hollow at 10 am on Monday, October 21. Interment will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. CAPOSSELA, CAROLEE - Creative Director and lyricist Carolee "Cappy" Capossela died Thursday, October 17, 2002 of a brain tumor., following an eight month battle. She was 59. She was born in Tarrytown April 4, 1943 to Carmen and Josephine Zajicek Capossela. She attended Sleepy Hollow High School, where she finished near the top of her class and was very active in theatrical productions. She graduated with honors from Harpur College (now the State University of New York at Binghampton) in 1965. For 12 years, Cappy was creative director of the Coty account, developing fragrance concepts, names and marketing campaigns for such products as ! ex-cla-mation, ICI, Longing, Dark Vanilla, Celebrate, Avatar and Stetson County. In addition to being a copywriter, Cappy was also a lyricist and songwriter. Her first hit, "When the Heat Hits the Street," was recorded by Laura Branigan, and she co-wrote the theme song "A Million Children" for the NBC movie "A Place at the Table." In 1985, after helping a friend who was dying of cancer, she co-authored Share the Care: How to Organize a Group to Care for Someone Who Is Seriously Ill (Simon & Schuster). The book has become and essential tool for families and organizations around the world, including ALS, the American Cancer Society, and others. Over the past two years, Cappy devoted herself full time to writing Broadway musicals. Her first show, "Grail", a rock opera, is scheduled to be produced in London early next year, while her final project — "The Courtesan" — is currently in development. She is survived by her mother, Josephine, of Sleepy Hollow, a brother, Jim of Ossining, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Tarrytown area, and out of state. A funeral mass for she and her father who predeceased her by less than a day, will be held at the Holy Cross Church in Sleepy Hollow at 10 am on October 21. DEANGELO, JOHN A. - John A. DeAngelo, age 69, of Brewster, NY, formerly of Mt. Vernon, NY, died Friday, October 18, 2002 in Carmel, NY. Mr. DeAngelo was born May 2, 1933 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Frank and Lena (Celestina) DeAngelo. He had served in the Navy during the Korean War. Besides Mrs. Terry Claro, his cousin whom he made his home with, Mr. DeAngelo is survived by a brother, Joseph DeAngelo and two sisters, Anna DeAngelo and Yolanda Minardi, all of Mt. Vernon. HILLMAN, MARY D. - Mary D. Hillman, a resident of New Rochelle and formerly of Pocono Springs, PA, died on October 11, 2002. She was 77. Mrs. Hillman was born on September 2, 1925 in New York City to the late Edward and Julia (McNally) Philbin. She married Stanley Hillman. He died in 1994. LAKIS, MICHAEL J. - Michael J. Lakis, Jr., 66, of New City, NY, died on Thursday, October 17, 2002 at home. Born on June 11, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, Michael was the President of Chiquita Brands, North America from 1979-1991. He was employed by Chiquita for 37 years. Michael was also the President of Del Monte, North America. Michael was recognized as an innovator in the produce industry and known to many throughout the world as "The Banana King". A tireless worker, Michael was known to his colleagues and competitors as someone who dealt with you forthrightly and with integrity. While his business achievements were substantial, Michael's first priority was his family and friends. He showered them all with much love and affection and was always there for them as a source of guidance and direction. Michael is survived by his son Brian, his daughter Christina Dunican and her husband Patrick, granddaughter Morgan, his sister Josephine and brothers Albert and Joseph, nieces Mary Lakis, Donna McCarthy and nephews Ronald, Richard, Joseph, Lawrence and Gregory Lakis and many grandnieces and nephews. Michael was also an avid Yankee fan and generous benefactor. He was also a dedicated golfer. PALMIETTO, MARIO F. - Mario F. Palmietto, 71 of Schoharie, NY, died October 17, 2002 at his residence after a long illness. Mario was born June 12, 1931 in Croton-on-Hudson, the son of Frank and Adele (Blaschke) Palmietto. He had resided in Ossining for most of his life before moving to Schoharie, attending Croton-on-Hudson HS and working as a bricklayer and stone mason for over 56 years. From 1960-80, he was a Detective and President of the PBA for the Ossining Police Dept. Mr. Palmietto was a member of American Legion Post #506 in Ossining, the Bricklayers' Internation Union of America, Local #27, and the International Operating Engineers. He was a volunteer and Life Member of the Ossining Hose Co. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's RC Church in Schoharie, the Italian-American Club in Middleburgh and the Knights of Columbus. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Palmietto served his country during the Korean War, serving in Germany. Survivors include: his wife, Carmella (Cerrone) Palmietto, whom he married on May 9, 1954. Three sons: Frank Palmietto of Ossining; Vito Palmietto of Springfield, MO and Mario Palmietto of Plattsburgh, MO; mother, Adele Palmietto of Cortlandt Manor, NY; two sisters: Marie Cooper of Cold Spring, NY and Carol Zeppetelli or Cortlandt Manor, NY. Four grandchildren also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 21, from St. Joseph's Church, Main Street, Schoharie. SANTOS, ALICE - Alice Santos of Sleepy Hollow died October 17, 2002 at Cabrini Nursing Home. She was 88. Mrs. Santos was born March 18, 1914 in Man. WV to Peter and Laura Grandan Combs. She settled in North Tarrytown in 1935. She worked on the assembly line at General Motors for many years. She belonged to UAW Local 664 and had been a union delegate. She was also a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church, a member of the Sleepy Hollow Seniors, the Portuguese American Cultural Center, an active supporter of the Democratic Party. She was married to Manuel Santos who died in 1985. Mrs. Santos is survived by her daughter Maria Gorete Crowe of Sleepy Hollow and three grandchildren. Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. SPERANO, LOUIS - Louis Sperano, a longtime Croton resident, died Thursday at Phelps Memorial Hospital. He was 75. Mr. Sperano was the widower of Grace Matero Sperano, who died in 1989. He was a retired Equiment Operator for Operating Engineers Local 137 in Briarcliff. Prior to that he worked for 25 years at General Motors in Sleepy Hollow. In his later years he was the Assistant Superintendent at Bari Manor in Croton. Louis served in the US Army during World War II. His family said that he loved cooking and painting. Survivors include his step-mother Lucrezia Sparano, one son Rick (Mary) Sperano of Croton, one daughter Peggy (Ron) Sperano-Kniser, one brother Dominick Sparano of North Carolina, one sister Mary Montague of Ossining, a half-sister Cathy, one grandson Joseph Kniser and two nieces Cecilia and Ann Marie Pesavento. Also surviving is his companion of many years Isabel Garzia of Croton and her five children. Louis was predeceased by four brothers Pete, Pat, Victor and Bernard and one sister Jean Perillo. His Funeral Mass is Monday at 10:30 am at Holy Name of Mary Church. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 at EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 41 Grand St., Croton. Burial is in Bethel Cemetery. THREADGILL, JUANITA LEOLA - Juanita L. Threadgill, 73, of Crofton, MD, formerly of White Plains, died suddenly on October 13, 2002. Born July 18, 1929 in New York, she was a retired cook from New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center in White Plains. Following retirement, she worked at Abraham & Straus Department Store in Security. A member of Christ Temple in White Plains, she was also active in the O'Malley Senior Center in Odenton, MD, where she took History classes and trips. She enjoyed travel and cooking. survived by sister Alma Wright of White Plains, NY. Miss Threadgill was predeceased by sister Elizabeth Wilson and by brother Joseph Threadgill. Memorial Service on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 1 PM at the Hardesty Funeral Home, PA, 851 Annapolis Rd., Gambrills, MD 21054. Interment, private. A Memorial Service will be held in White Plains at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the O'Malley Senior Center, Odenton, MD 21113.
