Calvin R. Brockhum
Calvin R. Brockhum, 75, of Union Street, Gloversville, died Friday afternoon at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
He was born May 11, 1926, in Johnstown, the son of Leslie and Lillian Young Brockhum. He was later employed by the Gloversville Highway Department for about 22 years until his retirement.
Brockhum enjoyed hunting in his younger years, and he was also an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Marjery J. Gallup Brockhum; his children, Edward J. Brockhum and his wife Linda and Wayne A. Brockhum, all of Gloversville, Tammy L. Brockhum, of Johnstown, Carolyn J. Brockhum, James D. Brockhum, and Brenda L. Brockhum, all of Gloversville. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two daughters, Linda Lou Brockhum and Lesley A. Taylor, his sister Mary Ellen Brockhum, and his brothers Edwards J. Brockhum and Douglas Brockhum.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Cremation will follow at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
Dorothy E. Humphrey
Dorothy E. Humphrey, 79, of Fort Johnson, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 1, 1922, in New York City, the daughter of Robert and Anna Ruppert Zeiger. She attended New York City schools. She resided in Westchester County until moving to the Fulton-Montgomery county area.
She was a member of the Adirondack CB Club.
She is survived by one son, Robert Lee Humphrey of Fort Johnson; one granddaughter, Christine Matuk; and two great-granddaughters, Jessica Lynn and Catherine Ann Matuk, all of Fort Johnson; and a niece and nephew. Mrs. Humphrey was predeceased by her husband, Leland J. Humphrey, whom she married
on Nov. 6, 1943, and who died on June 10, 1997. She was also predeceased by one brother, Robert Zeiger.
The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. R.W. Williams, Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice.
Volkert C. Whiting
Mr. Volkert C. Whiting, 88, died March 9, 2002.
He is survived by his son, Volkert L. (Jill) of Gansevoort; grandchildren, Volkert A. (Amy) of Perry, Cindy (Arthur) Robinson of Gansevoort, Eric (Lisa) of Warsaw; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie; son, Robert; and brother, Henry.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorials to Wyoming County Community Hospital. Arrangements are by Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, Perry.
Richard J. Enfield
Richard J. Enfield, formerly of Gloversville, died Monday, March 11, 2002, after a long illness.
Mr. Enfield was born on Oct. 18, 1926, in Gloversville, the son of Thomas Henry and Hattie Cosselman Enfield. He was a lifelong area resident and was employed by Fulton County Silk Mills.
Survivors are his wife, Leonora Puglis, whom he married
on June 21, 1947; one son, Richard, of Gloversville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and James Van Voast of Johnstown; grandchildren, Robert, Kristen Van Voast, Daron Enfield; cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Allan Enfield, who died Nov. 25, 2001.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid-New York, 311 Turner St., Suite 415, Utica, NY 13501; or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. Graveside services at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville will be held at the convenience of the family.
Dorothy Solton McDaniel
Dorothy Solton McDaniel, 83, formerly of Trackside Homes, Johnstown, died Tuesday evening, March 12, at Pine View Commons Nursing Home, after a long illness.
She was born on July 2, 1918, in Grafton, the daughter of Washington and Elizabeth Hilt Solton.
She worked as a packer for Baronet Litho and Knox Gelatine after being a dietitian at the former Johnstown Hospital until its closing.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star-St. Monica chapter and Johnstown 50 Plus Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by one son, Edward McDaniel of Frankfort; one daughter, Mrs. Linda Kay Knowles of Woodstock, Ga.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was married
to Wardy McDaniel in Grafton on June 27, 1937; he died June 10, 1973.
Dorothy was known as an outgoing and loving person; she always had a smile for everyone.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown, where a funeral will be held at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. R.W. Williams, chaplain of Mountain Valley Hospice, will officiate. Burial will take place at Evergreen cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association or Mountain Valley Hospice.
The family would also like to express their sincere thanks to the staff and administrators of Pine View Commons for the care of Mrs. McDaniel.
Franklin John "Dutch" Heeder
Franklin John "Dutch" Heeder, 82, died Saturday, March 16, 2002 at St. John's Nursing Home of heart failure.
Mr. Heeder was born on July 14, 1919 in Rochester, N.Y., where he graduated from John Marshall High School (class of 1937). He attended Ohio State University where he was a member of Beta Phi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. After Ohio State he served in the Army under Gen. George S. Patton in Germany where he received an honorable discharge.
After a long and successful career in engineering and manufacturing, he retired as executive vice president of Ward Products Inc., Amsterdam, N.Y. on Dec. 29, 2000 after 36 years of service at age 80.
Mr. Heeder is survived by his only child, Jeffrey (Nancy) Heeder of Rochester; three grandchildren, Jennifer Heeder Gustafson and Melanie Heeder, both of Georgia and Jeffrey Heeder II; sisters, Betty Heeder Balch and Marilyn Heeder; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Alice J. (Scheck) Heeder; his parents, John Henry Heeder and Bessie Pearl (Culver) Heeder, brother, William Heeder; sisters, Florence Bertsch, and Carol Wilson.
There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service celebrating his life at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home Inc., 570 Kings Highway south (corner Tutus Avenue). Audrey Kiernan
Audrey Kiernan, 76, of Gloversville, died at Nathan Littauer Hospital on Sunday. Born Feb. 18, 1926 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of John and Gertrude Kuebaugh Henry. She attended Gloversville schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Kiernan was employed by the former MCA Records of Gloversville and later by Bee Gee Records of Colonie, N.Y. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Women of the Church group. She was also a member of the Concordia Singing Society and was very active in community organizations.
Mrs. Kiernan was predeceased by her first husband, Charles L. Warren, who died June 6, 1973. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Acquila and Harriet McCloud. She is survived by her husband, Charles Kiernan of Gloversville; one son, Claude Warren of Gloversville; three brothers, Harold Henry of Johnstown, David and Charles Kuebaugh, both of Gloversville; two sisters, Shirley Mormile of Amsterdam and Marilyn Crankshaw of Johnstown; two grandsons, Robert Warren of Gloversville and Brent Warren of Louisiana; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends on Monday from 6-9 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 2nd Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lauretta Dietrich, pastor of the St. James Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will take place at the Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contribuions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Diabetes Foundation.
Susan M. (Amancio) Logan
Mrs. Susan M. (Amancio) Logan, 48, of Cochocton, Ohio and formerly of Gloversville and Johnstown, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 14, 2002. She was the wife of John G. Logan.
She was born in Liverpool, England, the daughter of the late Gilbert G. Amancio and the late Joan (Caffrey) Amancio-Paton, she was the stepdaughter of Robert Paton of Liverpool.
She was raised in Lynn, attended Lynn schools and was a graduate of Lynn Hospital School of Nursing. She was also a 1985 graduate of the Dale Carnegie School of Business, where she received several awards in public speaking and business. She lived in Lynn, New York and Ohio.
She was a licensed practical nurse and a phlebotomist in the former Lynn Hospital. She was also a vice president with G and G Appraisals in Hicksville, N.Y.
She was a volunteer member of various community service groups and religious organizations. Mrs. Logan was artistic, creative and spiritual. With her husband, she attended and participated in the community activities of First Presbyterian Church, Gloversville.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter, Christine Corbin of Denver; a son, Daniel Kilgore of San Diego; stepsons, John Jr. of Queensbury and Jeffrey Logan of Melbourne, Fla.; three brothers, Stephen Amancio of Illinois, Richard Amancio and Robert Amancio, both of Lynn; a granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Solimine Brothers Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn. Burial took place at Pine Grove cemetery.
