James B. McDermott

James B. McDermott, 78, died Monday, March 4, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. He was a resident of Indianapolis.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1923, in Beech Grove, Ind., the son of Arthur and Pauline (Barton) McDermott. Survivors include two sons, James Patrick McDermott of Indianapolis, Ind., and Danny C. McDermott of Greenwood, Ind.; two daughters, Kathy McDermott of New Whiteland, Ind., and Theresa McDermott-Erskine of Tacoma, Wash.; stepdaughter, Mary Ann Dillon of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He married Adele (Wyllie) Weaver McDermott. She preceded him in death in July 1986.

He was employed for 35 years by Indianapolis Water Co. as a superintendent of distribution and retired in 1984.

He was a member of Roberts Park United Methodist Church and Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Indiana Square Dance Club Callers Association, assistant district commissioner of Wetzel Trace Council Boy Scouts of America and a member of American Legion Post 500 in Speedway, Ind.

He was a veteran of the Air Force and served in World War II.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, where a service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at Prospect Hill cemetery in Gloversville, N.Y.

David A. Shibley

Mr. David A. Shibley, age 77, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville. He was a resident there for almost three years.

He was born July 9, 1924, in East Creek, Herkimer County, the son of Josiah and Doris Spalding Shibley. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II from Feb. 26, 1943, to Feb. 4, 1946. After the war, Mr. Shibley was employed at Beech-Nut Nutrition in Canajoharie, then at Mohawk Dairy in Amsterdam. He was also a truck driver for several companies, including Boss-Linco of Amsterdam, for many years.

Mr. Shibley is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Krofft Shibley of Gloversville, whom he married Oct. 12, 1974. Additional survivors include his daughter, Joyce Webber of Gloversville, N.Y.; three sons, David E. Shibley of Gloversville, N.Y., Brian Shibley of Gloversville, N.Y., and John Shibley of Mayfield, N.Y.; three daughters, Susan Claus of Gloversville, N.Y., Amie Brand of Gloversville, N.Y., and Maria Shibley of St. Johnsville, N.Y.; a stepson, William Cook of Gloversville, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Joanne Maxon of Gloversville, N.Y., and Rise Owen of Virginia; a sister, June Mykel of Fort Plain, N.Y.; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Shibley was predeceased by brothers Donald Shibley, Robert Shibley, Russell Shibley and Josiah Shibley.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 23 Computer Drive East, Albany, NY 12205, or Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Cameron James Livesey

Cameron James Livesey, 1, of 419 Union Mills Road, Broadalbin, died Monday, Oct. 1, at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 29, 2000 in Amsterdam.

He is survived by his mother, Lisa B. Livesey of Broadalbin; his father, Christopher J. Berson of Rochester; his brother, Christopher Livesey of Broadalbin; maternal grandmother, Judith A. Wangemann of Johnstown; maternal great-grandparents, Walter and Arlene Coons of Broadalbin; maternal great-grandfather, Earle W. Parsons of Amsterdam; paternal grandmother, Anne Berson of England; aunt, Lori Ringer of Johnstown; uncles, Michael Livesey and Marc Livesey, both of Florida, and Tim Berson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; aunt, Patricia Berson, England. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Robert T. Wangemann and Howard K. Berson.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Johnstown. The Rev. Canon William D. Small will officiate. Interment will take place at Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Albany, 139 S. Lake Ave., Albany, NY12208.

Veda D. Nichols

Veda D. Nichols, of Hampton Bays, N.Y., died Sept. 23.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by two daughters, Merilyn A. D'Errico and husband Frank of Gloversville, and Pamela M. Ryan and husband Ronald of Hampton Bays; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held in Hampton Bays. Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978.

Ruth K. Lutz

Ruth K. Lutz, RN, 76, of Karuth Road, Wells, N.Y., died at home early Wednesday morning, March 6, following a long illness.

She was born on April 11, 1925, in Taft, Calif., the daughter of Victor and Anna King Lutz. The family moved back to Indiana, Pa., where Ruth attended school and graduated from the Indiana High School class of 1943. She joined the Cadet Nurse Corps, attended the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, and graduated in 1946. She passed state board exams and became a registered nurse.

Miss Lutz has practiced nursing in Pennsylvania, New York City and in Gloversville at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

Ruth loved nature, was an avid photographer, had a talent for drawing and paint, and enjoyed fishing.

She is survived by sister-in-law Donna Lutz of Oakmont, Pa.; three nephews, Keith, James and Scott; sister-in-law Catherine Lutz of Indiana, Pa.; three nieces, Lois Lutz, Carol Lutz and Susan Ray; grandnieces, Heather Ray, Erin Lutz, Allison Lutz and Cheyanne Lutz; grandnephews, Andy, Shawn and Paul Lutz; and her best friend, Sarah Jane Ezell. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Victor Jr., Ed and Wayne Lutz.

Ruth donated her body to science under the Anatomical Gift Program, Albany Medical College. Following the use for educational and research purposes, her cremains will be returned to her niece, Susan Ray in Pittsburgh.

Thomas Baker

Mr. Thomas Baker, 79, formerly of Gloversville, died Monday at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.

He was born on Aug. 28, 1922, in Ephratah, the son of Daniel and Nellie Murray Baker. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army.

Mr. Baker was a professional boxer, competing in the lightweight division, and was mostly remembered for his fight against Willy Pepe.

He resided in Palisades Park, N.J., for many years, where he worked for Teamsters Local 617 in many shipyards in Long Island, N.Y., and New Jersey. In his later years, he resided in Troy and, most recently, Columbia Greene Long Term Care Facility. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his brother, Harry Baker of Gloversville; two half- brothers, Alfred Gunneson of Florida and Joseph Gunneson of Johnstown; two half-sisters, Gladys Simmons of Johnstown and Rose Bates of Gloversville; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Amico Funeral Home, 150 S. Main St., Gloversville, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Spring interment will take place at Johnstown cemetery.

Joseph John Minnitti

Joseph John Minnitti, 78, of West Main Street, Amsterdam, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after being stricken at home.

Mr. Minnitti was born on Aug. 28, 1923, in Amsterdam, the son of John and Filomena Sculco Minnitti. He was a lifelong area resident and was educated in local schools.

He was an Army veteran in World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Minnitti was employed for many years as a glove cutter in the leather industry. He most recently worked for Fownes Brothers Glove Co. and also worked for the family business, Minnitti's Grill, for a number of years, both of Amsterdam.

He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

He is survived by his loving sister, Martha Minnitti of Amsterdam; aunts; nieces; nephews and cousins.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Funeral services will be held at 7:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed at 8:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place at St. Mary's cemetery, Fort Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Michael's Memorial Fund or to the American Heart Association.

Margie Louise Brown (DeVoe)

Margie Louise Brown (DeVoe), age 76, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2002, at Mease Countryside Hospital, Clearwater, FL.

Born on September 12, 1925, in Gloversville, New York, she was the widow of George S. Brown Sr,. who died in 1994.

She and her husband resided in Hyde Park, N.Y., from 1954 until 1989, when they both retired to St. Petersburg, FL. Prior to that, Margie had been going to Florida as a "snowbird" since 1965.

Survivors include her mother Adah DeVoe of Gloversville, N.Y.; two sisters Alice DeVoe of Gloversville, N.Y., and Ruth Flansburg of Fonda; two brothers, Ralph DeVoe of Mayfield, N.Y., Stanley DeVoe Jr. of Caroga Lake Stage, N.Y.; a son, George Brown Jr. and wife Lorna Brown of Attleboro, Mass.; a daughter, Kathy Edelheiser and husband, Jack Edelheiser of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Two granddaughters, Nicole Hill of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Kelly Brown of Attleboro, Mass.

Aunt, Rebecca Rafferty of Mayfield, N.Y.

Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by three brothers, Vincent DeVoe of Caroga Lake Stage, N.Y., Charles DeVoe of Mayfield, N.Y. and Keith DeVoe of Caroga Lake Stage, N.Y.
