Cornelius J. Thomas Sr.

Cornelius J. Thomas Sr. of Bunker Hill Road, Mayfield, passed away suddenly Monday at his home.

He was born on May 28, 1913 in Amsterdam, a son of Francis and Julia Tomaszewski. He was educated locally.

For 36 years, Mr. Thomas worked as a weaver for Mohasco and later was employed as the caretaker for Johnson Hall in Johnstown for 15 years. He retired in 1984.

During World War II he served with the Army.

Mr. Thomas was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and St. Francis of Assisi in Northville.

His loving family includes three sons, Richard D. Thomas of Broadalbin, Cornelius J. "C.J." Thomas of Amsterdam and Gary P. Thomas of Sanibel Island, Fla. Six grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.

His infant daughter, Patricia Ann Thomas ,predeceased him in 1941.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main St., Amsterdam. The Very Rev. James J. Gulley will be celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Mary's cemetery, Fort Johnson. Contributions may be made to the Fulton County Animal Shelter, c/o Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Jacob Baker

Jacob Baker, 2, died early Tuesday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1999 in Gloversville, the son of Robert and Tanya Wilson Baker, of Gloversville.

He is also survived by two brothers, Dakoda and Hunter Baker, both of Gloversville; four sisters, Madyson, Brittany, Amber Curry Baker, and Caitlynn Hamm, all of Gloversville; aunts; uncles; great-aunts; great-uncles; cousins; maternal grandparents, Helen and Larry Teneyck of Gloversville; maternal grandmother, Ellen Wilson of Gloversville; maternal great-grandmother, Philomena Carbano of Gloversville; paternal grandmother, Ruth Baker of Gloversville; paternal grandfather, Ronald Baker of Galway; paternal great-grandmother, Helen Baker of Fonda. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Richard Wilson; and paternal great-grandfather, Fred Baker.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Wayne Jones, pastor of Fremont Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Spring interment will take place at Kings cemetery, Northampton. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to United Cerebral Palsy Association of Fulton County, 22 N. Perry St., Johnstown, NY 12095.

William Frank

Mr. William Frank, 78, of Naples, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, after a brief illness.

He was born on June 1, 1923 in Gloversville, N.Y., the son of Chauncy and Eva L. Stroud Frank.

Mr. Frank retired after owning and operating the Gingerbread House Bakery in Gloversville.

Survivors include four stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Ann and James Wallace of Caroga Lake, Michele E. and Dan West of Saratoga, Melissa M. and Joseph Vacula of Gloversville, Lori M. and Maurice Gutierrez of Naples, Fla.; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Angell of Brockport, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elnora Wood Frank, who passed away on April 4, 1994.

Mr. Frank served in WWII in the Navy aboard the USS Mobil, stationed in the Pacific Theater. He also was recalled to duty to serve in the Korean War.

Cremation will be arranged by Beechwood Society of Naples, Fla.

Theresa Marie Raut

Theresa Marie "Terri" Raut, 39, of Carmichael Street, Amsterdam, died Monday at the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Ballston Spa.

She was born on June 15, 1962 in Gloversville, a daughter of Anthony F. Glionna Sr. and Mary G. Larkin. She was a lifelong resident of the Fulton and Montgomery County area. She attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. She was a graduate of the Royal Barber Beauty School in Schenectady.

She was employed as a waitress at C.P.'s Family Restaurant in Hagaman, N.Y. for over five years. She also was a licensed beautician and worked on the side.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was an avid bowler in the area. She was a member of the American Bowling Congress. She bowled in leagues at the Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady and Super 30 Lanes in Amsterdam. She loved latchwork and enjoyed reading.

Survivors include her loving mother, Mary G. Larkin of Amsterdam; her dear husband, David L. Raut of Amsterdam; one beloved son, Eric Haight of Amsterdam; one beloved daughter, Colleen Haight of Amsterdam; two dear brothers, Anthony F. Glionna Jr. of Amsterdam and William J. Glionna of Sprakers; three aunts; three uncles; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Anthony F. Glionna in 1999.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Thomas Mithen will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Mary's cemetery, Fort Johnson, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Amsterdam, c/o the funeral home.

Flossie Wellman

Mrs. Flossie Wellman, 82, Lynk Street, Sprakers, N.Y., died Monday afternoon, Jan. 7, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam after a short illness.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1919 in Worcester, N.Y., the daughter of Gilbert and Minnie Clapper Hicks. Mrs. Wellman was educated in Jefferson schools. She previously lived in Palatine Bridge, N.Y. and had been a resident of Sprakers for 25 years.

Mrs. Wellman was a mother and homemaker. She was formerly employed as an aide at Dawn Crest Nursing Home, Fultonville.

She was a member of the Christian Church of Charleston Four Corners, where she was baptised on July 13, 1997. She was also a member of the Women's Bible Study Group of the church.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Donald Way of Fonda, N.Y., Wanda and Primo Iacobucci and Shirley Spagnuola and Edward Bebbe of Sprakers; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Wellman of Glen, N.Y. and Randy and Lorraine Wellman of Fonda, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Anne Freeman of Sloansville, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; 15-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was married on July 31, 1940 in Laurens, N.Y. to Leland A. Wellman, who died on April 3, 1991. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Howard Hicks, Edward Hicks and Elmer Hicks.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home Inc., 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11. The Rev. Bret Popp and the Rev. Eric Handel will co-officiate. Burial will take place at Fort Plain cemetery in the spring.

At the family request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Church of Charleston Four Corners, 1380 Lykers Road, Sprakers, NY 12166, in memory of Mrs. Wellman.

Rose M. Aleksa

Rose M. Aleksa, 77, of County Highway 107, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1924 in Amsterdam, a daughter of John and Katherine Kristonavicius Karuzas. She attended local schools and lived here all her life.

Mrs. Aleksa was employed as a secretary for General Electric Co. in Schenectady and later for the Perth Central School in the same capacity until she retired in 1986.

She was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of its Auxiliary and the Living Rosary Society of the church. Rose loved to knit and crochet and made many keepsakes for family and friends.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph, whom she married on Aug. 29, 1953; two loving sons, Joseph A. and his wife Lynn Aleksa of Vienna, W. Va. and Peter J. and his wife Sharon Aleksa of Dalton, Mass.; her four grandchildren, Peter, Michael, Jocelyn and Joseph Aleksa; a brother, John Karuzas of Boynton Beach, Fla.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where St. Casimir's Auxiliary will conduct a chaplet service at 6 p.m. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. The Rev. Stanley J. Swierzowski will be celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Casimir's cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Casimir's Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.

Margaret A. Pedrick Bougher

Mrs. Margaret A. Pedrick Bougher, 88, of Corbin Hill Road, Sprakers, N.Y., died Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, at St. Johnsville Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1913 in Schenectady, N.Y. the daughter of Ward and Ella Getman Beck. Mrs. Pedrick Bougher was educated in Johnstown schools. She previously spent winters in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and had been an area resident for most of her life.

Mrs. Pedrick Bougher served as union president of the glove workers union in Gloversville for five years until her retirement. She was previously employed for several years as a glove maker for the former Crescendoe Glove Shop in Johnstown.

She was of the Protestant faith. She was a life member of the Elks Club, BPOE No. 1557 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and was elected Elk Lady of the Year in 1984.

She is survived by one daughter, Nita P. Bell of the town of Charleston, N.Y.; one son, Clayton W. Pedrick of Herkimer, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Cora Beck of Ephratah, N.Y.; two special nieces, Patricia Symolon of Stone Arabia, N.Y. and Carolyn Goody of Ephratah; friend, Esther Jones of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home Inc., 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Burial will take place at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078, in memory of Margaret Pedrick Bougher.
