MaryEllen Wager Ringler

Mrs. MaryEllen Wager Ringler, 62, of South Judson Street, Gloversville, died Saturday, Jan. 12, at home following a long illness.

She was born on July 27, 1939, in Gloversville, the daughter of George and Ellen Nichols Wager. She was employed as a home health aide and was a Gloversville election inspector for many years. She was previously an active member of the former Juniorette Drill Team of Fulton County and a former member of the Johnstown American Legion Post No. 472 Auxiliary.

On Oct. 13, 1956, she married Kenneth Ringler, who survives.

She is also survived by her daughter, SueEllen Sofka, and her husband, Fred, of Gloversville; a brother, Donald Wager, and his wife, Alice, of Johnstown; three sisters, Beverly Henry and her husband, Harold, of Johnstown, Carol Kuntzsch and her husband, Bob, of Sprakers, and Janet Serviss of Anaheim, Calif.; a granddaughter, Jessica Sofka; and a grandson, Fred Sofka III.

Mrs. Ringler was predeceased by her brothers, George Wager, William Wager and Robert Wager.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. Alan C. Rhodes and the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Theresa R. Semione

Theresa R. Semione, age 75, of Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. She was born on Dec. 2, 1926 in Glens Falls, N.Y., the daughter of John C. and Anna Mahrenholz Matthews. She graduated from Gloversville High School and later received an R.N. degree from the Nathan Littauer School of Nursing.

She was employed as a nurse for both the old and new Nathan Littauer Hospitals, the Extended Care Facility of Nathan Littauer Hospital, and the Fulton County Infirmary. Mrs. Semione retired from nursing in 1984.

She was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Gloversville, and the Nathan Littauer Nursing Alumni. Her hobbies were reading, animals, and she was an avid card player.

Mrs. Semione was predeceased by her husband, America (Jake) Semione, whom she married Nov. 14, 1948. He died in 1986. She was also predeceased by one brother, John J. Matthews.

Mrs. Semione is survived by four sons and two daughters, James J. and his wife Barbara Semione of Gloversville, John S. and his wife Donna Semione of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Linda M. and her husband Tom Gilbert of Caroga Lake, Joseph M. and his wife Kelly Semione of Gloversville, Peter M. Semione and his companion Laura Walker of Gloversville, Susan A. Semione and her companion Rich Helwig of Gloversville; one sister, Anna Pedrick of Gloversville; eight grandchildren, Amy, David, John Jr., Michael, Nicholas, Katie, Matthew and Emily Semione; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 8:45 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church at 9:30 am, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Spring interment will take place at the Mount Carmel cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gloversville Free Library or the S.P.C.A., Stevers Mills Road, Broadalbin, NY.

Gertrude DeAngelis

Mrs. Gertrude DeAngelis, 82, formerly of Gloversville, died Friday at The Connecticut Hospice, Branford, Conn., following a long illness. She had resided in nursing homes in Connecticut for about 20 years.

She was born on July 9, 1919 in Gloversville, N.Y., the daughter of Alfred and Hazel Parsons Pettit.

She was employed by Grandoe Glove Co. of Gloversville.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Connie Benton and her husband Gary of Gloversville; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Benton and Sierra Benton. Her daughter, Beverly Jean Clark died in 1998. She was also predeceased by many brothers and sisters.

There will be no calling hours. Burial took place at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., Gloversville. A private service was held today at the convenience of the family.

Ruth Rizio

Mrs. Ruth Rizio, 80, of Reservoir Street, Johnstown, died Monday morning at her home after a long illness.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1921 in Mayfield, the daughter of Edward and Mary Jane Frye Davis. She was educated in the Broadalbin and Johnstown schools.

She had been a homemaker throughout her life.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Johnstown.

She is survived by one son, Frank Patsy Rizio and his wife Judith Ann of Johnstown; one daughter, Mary Jane Robbins and her husband Richard of Johnstown; two granddaughters, Susann Ann Cooper of Johnstown and Toni Marie Rizio of Fonda; and one niece, Mary Beck of Palatine Bridge. On March 8, 1941, she married Patrick Rizio, who died on Feb. 24, 1979.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Patrick Iannotti of Amsterdam will be celebrant. Burial will take place at Mount Carmel cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home or JAVAC.

Gladys Walrath

Gladys Walrath, 101, formerly of 322 W. Clinton St., Johnstown, passed away Jan. 14 at the Edward Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, where she had resided since March 1994.

She was born on May 16, 1900 and was a lifelong area resident.

She was first united in marriage to Carlson Brunt and later married Caleb Walrath, who passed away in 1957.

Mrs. Walrath was a glove worker for various glove factories.

She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and was a member of St. Monica Chapter No. 486 OES.

Mrs. Walrath is survived by two daughters, Edna Ruch of Jamestown, N.Y. and Shirley DeSimone of Emerson, N.J.; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown.

Sybil Weaver Sirovica

Sybil Weaver Sirovica, 79, formerly of Seventh Avenue, Gloversville, died Tuesday morning at the Nathan Littauer Hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Sirovica was born on July 3, 1922 in Gloversville, N.Y., where she was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elsie Ridlinton Weaver. She was a 1939 graduate of Gloversville High School and a 1943 graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College.

Mrs. Sirovica was an elementary teacher for 35 years in Mayfield schools, retiring in 1979. She was committee woman and secretary of the Fulton County Women's Republican Club and was honored by the club as its 1996 Woman of the Year. As a member of the Gloversville Republican Committee, she served on the advisory board. She was elected to the executive committee and then became recording secretary. In 1986, she served as chairwoman in her Gloversville ward after she was elected committee woman.

Mrs. Sirovica was a member of the Fulton County Republican Club, the Women's Republican Club and the Gloversville Republican Club. She was elected to serve in the capacity of secretary in both the Fulton County Republican Club and the Women's Republican Club. She was treasurer of the Fulton County Children's Committee and member of the Friends of the Library and secretary of her high school reunion committee. Mrs. Sirovica was a charter member and past president of the New York State Association of Teachers of the Mentally Handicapped, past treasurer of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association and member of the New York State Retired Teachers.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins including the Douglas Jinks family of Gloversville; and dear friends, Dr. Joseph and Mary Hope Giardino and family of Gloversville, Jane Rogers and family of Indian Lake, Mrs. Marilyn Kemp of Gloversville, Judge Robert Best and his wife Suzanne of Gloversville, the Riccio families of Amsterdam; many political friends including Sen. Hugh Farley, Assemblyman Marc Butler and former New York Secretary of State Sandy Treadwell. She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Frank Sirovica and predeceased by longtime companion, Louis R. Riccio of Amsterdam.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Interment will take place at St. Michael's cemetery, Amsterdam.

Janice L. Brooks

Mrs. Janice L. Brooks, 70, of Garlock Road, Caroga Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 13, at Yale Newhaven Hospital, Connecticut after a long illness.

She was born on June 28, 1931 in Schenectady, the daughter of Arthur and Thelma Riesen Toon.

Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include one daughter, Gail Gagnon-Sherman of Guilford, Conn.; two grandchildren; nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. Cremation took place at Walnut Grove Crematory, Meriden, Conn. Arrangements are by A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
