Muriel K. Sart
Muriel K. Sart, 98, of Gloversville, died Wednesday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born on Oct. 23, 1903, in Gloversville, the daughter of Jesse and Mary Petrie White. She attended Gloversville schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Sart was employed by the Locktite Co. of Gloversville as a supervisor and was later employed as an inspector for the Grandoe Glove Co. of Gloversville. She retired from Perrella Glove Co. of Gloversville, where she was employed as an inspector.
Mrs. Sart was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by one cousin, Kathryn Wentworth Felter of New Lebanon, N.Y. She was predeceased by her husband, Lauren Sart, who died in 1965.
There will be no calling hours or service from the funeral home. Arrangements are by Hollenbeck Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
William L. Scott
William L. Scott, 60, of Gloversville, died Tuesday morning at his residence after a long illness.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1942, in Albany, N.Y., the son of George and Corinne Myers Scott. He attended Gloversville schools and was a lifelong area resident.
He was employed as a leather worker for most of his life and for the past 12 years was employed by Fashion Tanning of Gloversville.
He was a member of Gloversville Moose Lodge and the Local Leather Workers Union No. 1712.
Mr. Scott was survived by his father, George Scott of Gloversville; two sons, Vincent A. Scott and Jeremy J. Scott, both of Gloversville; longtime companion, Ellen Doxtater; one stepson, Steven Gallup of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Deborah Smith and Robin Siarkowski, both of Gloversville; one sister, Mrs. Sharon Collins of Charleston Four Corners; two grandchildren, Vincent A. Scott II and Omari Scott, both of Gloversville; five step-grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Megan Gallup, Kayla Gallup, Jordon Siarkowski and Jake Siarkowski; one niece; nephews; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother, Corinne Myers Scott; and one son, Billy Scott II.
The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice. Arrangements are by Hollenbeck Funeral Home, Gloversville.
Steven E. Swartwout
Steven E. Swartwout, 47, of Gloversville, died Tuesday evening at home.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1954, in Freeport, Long Island, the son of Carl V. and Helen Anderson Swartwout. Mr. Swartwout was a graduate of Massapequa High School, Massapequa, N.Y. He attended Nassau Community College, Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Wayne University in Detroit, Mich. He received a degree in automotive engineering.
Mr. Swartwout was involved in the leather industry since 1976. He owned and operated the AIX-SUN IND.COM. LTDA, leather business in Brazil for several years and was the founder of L. Jass Inc. leather business of Gloversville.
He was a member of the Assn. of American Tanners Council and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Swartwout is survived by his wife, Lora Johnston-Swartwout of Gloversville, whom he married
on Feb. 14, 1993; his mother, Helen M. Swartwout of Peck's Lake, N.Y.; two sons, Jonathan and Shane Swartwout, both of Gloversville; one stepdaughter, Ashley Lauria of Gloversville; one brother, Timothy Swartwout of Massapequa, Long Island; mother and father-in-law, Dick and Peg Johnston, brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Pattie Johnstown, all of Gloversville; five nephews and one niece.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 16 W. Fulton St., Gloversville. The Rev. Edmund T. Freeborn III will officiate. Interment will take place at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Dorothy Winteroll
Mrs. Dorothy Winteroll, 93, formerly of South Hollywood Avenue, Gloversville, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born on March 12, 1908, in Germany, the daughter of the late Herman and Marie M. Paul Otto. She resided in Gloversville most of her life and graduated from Gloversville High School.
She was a bookkeeper for 30 years at Livingston Furniture and retired many years ago.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and a 50 year member of Cayadutta Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
She was married
on Oct. 10, 1940 to George E. Winteroll, who died in 1992.
She is survived by a niece, Lillian Hayner of Johnstown and several other nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematory in Schenectady. Arrangements are by Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville. A private graveside service will take place at Prospect Hill cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Helen Kissinger
Helen Kissinger, 88 years young, of Northville, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, after a short illness.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1913, in Amsterdam and was a longtime resident of Northville.
She worked in various glove manufacturing industries and retired from the Northville Central School District in 1977. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, carpentry and numerous arts and crafts activities.
She is survived by five children, George Brown and his wife, Anne, of Niskayuna; Linda Brown of Lewisville, Texas; Nelson Kissinger and his wife, Debi, of Liberty, S.C.; Kathryn Kissinger of Northville; and Carol Ferguson and her husband, Philip, of Gloversville. She was also the proud grandmother of Linda Prewitt-Vinton of Lewisville, Texas; Jennifer Kissinger of Liberty, S.C.; Lindsay Kissinger of Northville; and Jeffrey Ferguson and Andrew Ferguson, both of Gloversville; and the great-grandmother of Lindy Prewitt of Lewisville, Texas. She is also survived by a sister, Stella Proper of the Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur Kissinger, whom she married
on Dec. 31, 194. He died in February 1999.
Mrs. Kissinger donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical College.
There will be no viewing hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northampton Ambulance Service.
Florence Paluzzi
Mrs. Florence Rose Paluzzi, 102, of Smith Street, Canajoharie, died early Thursday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, after a short illness.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1899 in Castel Campangnano, Caserta, Italy, the daughter of Sullivan and Guistina Vitelli Rose. She moved from Italy in 1907 to Canajoharie, where she was raised and educated.
She was employed as a Larkin secretary for the John D. Larkin Co. She operated a Larkin store in Canajoharie for over 20 years, during which time she received many awards for her sales. She also worked for a short time in strained foods at Beech-Nut during World War II. In addition, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Paluzzi was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Catherine Esther No. 1264 and SS. Peter and Paul's Rosary Society. She was also an avid gardener and a member of the Canajoharie-Fort Plain Garden Club, where she won many awards.
Survivors include two sons, Victor J. Paluzzi and Joseph J. Paluzzi Jr., both of Canajoharie; four daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Henry Clouthier of Palatine Bridge, Eleanor Pomella of Canajoharie, Helen Iacobucci of Canajoharie and Eileen and Knute Show of Canajoharie; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many dear friends.
She was married
on Feb. 21, 1916 to Joseph Paluzzi Sr. He died in June 1976. She was also predeceased by a son, John A. Paluzzi, in 1949; a daughter, Elsie Evans, in 1945; three brothers; and a sister.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Lenz and Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. William Gaffigan will officiate. Burial will take place in SS. Peter and Paul's cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the fund-raising committee at SS. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
Evelyn C. Peclet
Evelyn C. Peclet, 87, of Route 67, Johnstown, died Saturday, Jan. 19, at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.
She was born on Nov. 25, 1914 in Halstead, Pa. She lived in the Johnstown and Gloversville area for the past 50 years.
She was the store manager for Avery Shoe Store in Gloversville for many years.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose.
On Jan. 19, 1936, she married
John Peclet in Fonda.
Survivors include her husband, John Peclet; a daughter, Evelyn Joan Schermerhorn of Gloversville; a brother, Walter O'Grady of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren, Dale Schermerhorn of New York City and John Schermerhorn of Johnstown; a great-grandchild, Joshua Schermerhorn; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be private. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematorium. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nathan Littauer Hospital Coronary Care Unit, Gloversville, NY 12078.
