Terry Wilson
Mr. Terry A. Wilson, 52, of Mountain Road, Mayfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, after being stricken.
He was born on Oct. 26, 1949 in Gloversville, the son of Cola and Joan Bushen Wilson.
He was a construction worker employed by Delaney Construction.
Survivors include his fiance, Cindy Leotta of Mayfield; his father, Cola Wilson of Mayfield; three sons, Terry Wilson Jr. of Nebraska, Jeffery Wilson of Florida and Brad Wilson of Gloversville; a stepson, Michael Leotta of Gloversville; three daughters, Brittany Wilson of Mayfield, Rachael Wilson of Gloversville and Tonya Cassero of Gloversville; a stepdaughter, Monica Leotta of Mayfield; three brothers, Michael Wilson of Mayfield, Chuck Wilson of Washington state and Mack Wilson of Gloversville; two sisters, Deanne Deming of Hope and Zella Allen of Edinburg; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in King cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northampton Ambulance Corps.
Anna Smatana
Anna Smatana, 91, of Veghte Street, Johnstown, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 24, at home.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1910 in Borsky St. George, Slovakia, the daughter of Paul and Apolina Kratky Muska.
She received her education in Europe prior to moving to Johnstown in 1927.
She worked as a seamstress for the former Borman Coat Factory, the former Jules T. Garfall Inc. and the former Tryon Sportswear, all in Johnstown. She retired in the early 1980s.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and its Rosary Society and Women's Catholic Sokol.
She is survived by a sister, Theresa M. Simek of Johnstown; a niece, Rose Mary Russ and her husband, Joseph, of Spencerville, Md.; a great-niece, Barbara Ann Russ of Richmond, Va.; and a great-nephew, Stephen Russ of Wheat Ridge, Colo.
She married
Joseph Smatana on Nov. 21, 1933. He died Dec. 14, 1989.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Anthony's Church, Johnstown. The Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Anthony's cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Emeroy Atty
Mrs. Emeroy Henry Atty, 92, of Chase Street, Johnstown, died Thursday, Jan. 24, at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, after a brief illness.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1909 in Johnstown, the daughter of Ethan and Margaret Michaelson Henry.
Mrs. Atty was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Johnstown. She was a member of the Johnstown 50 Plus Senior Citizens.
She was employed as a home health aide until her retirement.
Survivors include a son, Robert Kenyon of Tribes Hill; two stepsons, Douglas Atty of Johnstown and Edward W. Atty of Syracuse; a brother, Russell Henry of Johnstown; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She married
Edward J. Atty in 1960. He died April 16, 1974.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. David Almleaf will officiate. Burial will take place in Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society. Friends are invited to a reception at the Rainbow Restaurant, 16 E. Main St., Johnstown, following the services on Monday.
Steven E. Swartwout
Steven E. Swartwout, 47, of Gloversville, died Tuesday evening at home.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1954 in Freeport, the son of Carl V. and Helen Anderson Swartwout. Mr. Swartwout was a graduate of Massapequa High School, Massapequa. He attended Nassau Community College, Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Wayne University in Detroit, where he earned a degree in automotive engineering.
Mr. Swartwout was involved in the leather industry since 1976. He owned and operated the AIX-SUN IND.COM. LTDA, a leather business in Brazil, for several years and was the founder of L. Jass Inc. , a leather business in Gloversville.
He was a member of the Association of American Tanners Council and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Swartwout is survived by his wife, Lora Johnston-Swartwout of Gloversville, whom he married
on Feb. 14, 1993; his mother, Helen M. Swartwout of Peck's Lake; two sons, Jonathan and Shane Swartwout, both of Gloversville; a stepdaughter, Ashley Lauria of Gloversville; a brother, Timothy Swartwout of Massapequa; his mother and father-in-law, Dick and Peg Johnston of Gloversville; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Pattie Johnston of Gloversville; five nephews; and a niece.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 16 W. Fulton St., Gloversville. The Rev. Edmund T. Freeborn III will officiate. Interment will be in Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Alyce Moore
Alyce J. Moore, 70, of Gloversville, died Thursday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility.
She was born on April 26, 1931 in Amsterdam, the daughter of John and Jane Chorzelewski Hourigan. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Amsterdam. She received her R.N. degree from the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.
Mrs. Moore was a resident of Gloversville for more than 50 years. She was employed as a registered nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital and also worked in private residences in Fulton County. She was a night supervisor at the Fulton County Infirmary, where she was employed for 20 years and retired in 1990.
She was a member of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nurses Alumni, CSEA Retirees and the 55 Plus Senior Citizens of Gloversville.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband, Gerald E. Moore, whom she married
Nov. 12, 1954. She is also survived by two daughters, Pamela Meier of Fairport and Valorie Jones of Asheboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Lauren Ives and Jessica Ives, both of Fairport; and several aunts.

Avis E. Lippie
Mrs. Avis (Ma) E. Lippie, 82, of East Main Street, Fonda, died Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2002, at the home of her son on Hawthorne Terrace in Northampton, Mass. after a short illness.
Born in Amsterdam on Dec. 12, 1919, she was the daughter of Willis H. and Anna Jeanett Campfield Cross. She attended Johnstown schools and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Lippie married
James Carl Lippie on June 15, 1945. He died on Feb. 16, 1970.
Mrs. Lippie was employed by several Johnstown factories, including Cerrone's, Evans, Royal Knit, and Swears. She was employed later by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department as a matron and cook until retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Lippie was a member of the Montgomery County Republican Committee and town of Mohawk Republican Committee where she served as treasurer; the St. Monica, Juanita, Mohawk Valley Cayadutta Chapter 486, Order of the Eastern Star; the Montgomery County Sheriffs Association and the New York State Sheriffs Association. She served as superintendent of the Homemaking Department at the Montgomery-Fulton County Fair for over 20 years and was a past member and dispatcher of the Fonda-Fultonville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
She is survived by her loving son, Thomas J. Lippie and his wife, Nancy A., of Northampton, Mass.; two loving daughters, Nancy A. Lyker and her husband, William A., of Sprakers, N.Y. and Mary B. Romanowski and her husband, James, of Amsterdam; two dear sisters, Alice McGregor of New Port Richey, Fla., and Ruth Holden of Marietta, N.Y.; six wonderful grandchildren, James C. Lippie II, Edward W. Lippie, Laura M. Block, Thomas J. Lippie Jr., James W. Romanowski and Avis A. Fulk; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Lippie was predeceased by her brother, Willis H. Cross Jr.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Johnstown Reformed Church, 351 N. Perry St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Jack Millard officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Fonda.

Jesse B. Gowans
Jesse B. Gowans, 63, of Gloversville, died Thursday, Jan. 24, at home.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1938 in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of John and Sarah Gowans. He was a graduate of the University School and attended Silvermine Institute of Art in Westport, Conn. He and his family moved to Fulton County in 1985.
He owned a carpet installation business in Connecticut for many years. He later worked in sales and retired as a draftsman for Mohawk Furniture in Broadalbin. He was a talented artist working in several mediums including oils, pen and ink, clay sculpting and woodworking.
Mr. Gowans is survived by his wife of 26 years, Margaret Botch Gowans; his daughter, Ann Marie Gowans; his sons, Michael and Scott Gowans, all of Gloversville; his daughter, Stacey Lane of North Branford, Conn.; his son, David Gowans of Rhode Island; his mother-in-law, Eileen Nieuwboer of Johnstown; his brother, Kenneth Gowans of Plymouth, Mass.; his cousin, Cathy Calise of Westport, Conn.; four grandchildren; nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Mr. Gowans has willed his body to the Anatomical gift Program at Albany Medical College.
There will be a memorial service conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, by the Rev. Wayne Jones at Fremont Street United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
