James T. Brown Sr.
Mr. James T. Brown Sr., 53, of Walton Place, Scotia, N.Y., died Sunday, Oct. 14, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, N.Y., after being stricken at home.
He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of Mathew and Doris Borg Brown.
He was a Navy veteran and served in Vietnam.
Mr. Brown was a New York City police officer and retired in 1984.
Mr. Brown was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Brooks Brown, whom he married
on July 13, 1999; sons, James T. Brown Jr. of Gloversville, N.Y. and Thomas V. Brown of Wells, N.Y.; stepson, Paul Foster of Northville, N.Y.; daughter, Lori Brown Gosson of Wells; stepdaughters, Katherine Foster of Upland, Calif., Lynette Foster of Gloversville and Tiffany Babcock of Wells; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Matthew Brown.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Northville Funeral Service Inc., 401 Bridge St. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Wells. Edna M. Jablonski
Edna M. Jablonski, 78, of Gloversville, died Tuesday at her home after a short illness.
She was born on July 1, 1923 in Lincoln, Vt., the daughter of Julius and Nellie Olcott Lathrop. She was a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School and lived in the Gloversville area most of her life.
Mrs. Jablonski was employed by the former Decca Records and later retired from the Winig Slipper Co. of Gloversville.
She was a member of North Main Street United Methodist Church of Gloversville. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting and birding.
She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Edmund F. Jablonski; one son, Ronald Jablonski of Mayfield; two daughters, Sharon Pustolka of Schenectady and Sheila Blowers of Gloversville; one sister, Bernice Jones of Gloversville; seven grandchildren, Michael Pustolka, Lori Tasick, Brian Pustolka, Jennifer Jablonski, Ronald J. Jablonski, Eric Blowers and Craig Blowers; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, George Lathrop; and one sister, Vernice Reed.
The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Dr. Alan C. Rhodes, pastor of North Main Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville.
Margaret B. Murphy
Mrs. Margaret B. Murphy of Franklin Street, Gloversville, died at Nathan Littauer Hospital Extended Care Facility.
Mrs. Murphy was born in Syracuse. She was educated in Little Falls schools. Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital and taught there for many years. Mrs. Murphy also worked for Fulton County Department of Social Services for 11 years and retired in 1978.
She was a member of Nathan Littauer Hospital Nurses Alumni Association, Gloversville Business and Professional Women's Association and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a board member of Gloversville Day Nursery. Mrs. Murphy was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret A. Kimple of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Thomas Murphy of Gloversville; a sister, Florence Spencer of Mohawk; a brother, James Bucklin of Whitehall, Pa.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Les Massad. Her husband, Thomas Murphy, whom she married
on April 27, 1940, died in 1972.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will take place at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Fulton County Children's Committee, in care of Mildred Busch, Caroga Lake, NY 12032.
Irene F. Viskup
Mrs. Irene F. Viskup, 83, of Orchard Street, Gloversville, died Wednesday at home following a long illness.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1918 in Northville, the daughter of Burr and Florence Briggs Lawton. She was educated and lived in Gloversville all of her life.
She was employed as a layer-off by Knit-True Handware of Gloversville for more than 20 years until her retirement. Mrs. Viskup was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and a former member of Gloversville Women of the Moose 149.
On Feb. 22, 1936, she married
John Viskup who survives. She is also survived by her two daughters, Patricia A. Mach and her husband, Michael Mach, and Barbara S. Viskup, all of Gloversville; brothers, Richard Travis of Gloversville, Charles Travis of Johnstown and Ronald Travis of Murray, Utah; sisters, Lucille Boyd and Betty Poyfair, both of Gloversville; granddaughters, Kimberly LaVallee of Gloversville and Barbara Betz of Johnstown; great-granddaughters, Samantha Hall and Elizabeth Betz, both of Johnstown; great-grandson, Jonathan Betz of Johnstown; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers, Harry Travis and Clifton Travis.

Carleton Hine
Carleton Hine, 85, of Gloversville, died Saturday, Nov. 17, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1916 in Gloversville, the son of William and Lillian Gray Hine. He attended Gloversville schools and was a lifelong area resident.
He was employed by Independent Leather Co. and retired in 1984.
Survivors include one son, Robert Barter of Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, Patricia A. Nellis of Caroga Lake and John Wanderlick of Orange, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Hine; three infant sisters; and one grandson, John Wanderlick.
The family will be receiving friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will directly follow at 10 a.m. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Interment will take place at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.
Bernard Masker
Mr. Bernard Masker, 85, formerly of Lee Avenue, Gloversville, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a long illness.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1916 in Vilna, Poland, the son of the late Josef and Ida Harris Maskor. He was educated in Gloversville schools.
He worked in the leather industry as a chemist and worked at the former Martin-Deichsel Leather Co. He retired about 18 years ago.
He was a former member of the former Elks Club in Gloversville.
He is survived by two daughters, Sally Seeley of Delanson and Lois Moore of Hamlin, N.Y.; one son, Robert Masker of Randolph, N.J.; one brother, Paul Masker of New York City; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one nephew. He was married
to the former Jene Martin Masker on Feb. 23, 1941 and she died in 1991.
A calling hour will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of Johnstown Reformed Church will officiate. Burial will take place at Ferndale cemetery in Johnstown.
Nancy J. Pierce
Mrs. Nancy J. Pierce, 53, of West Street, Johnstown, died Saturday, Nov. 17, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a short illness.
She was born on Sept. 24, 1948 in Gloversville. Mrs. Pierce graduated from Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
She was employed as a librarian at Johnstown High School for 26 years until her retirement in September 2001.
Survivors include her husband, James Pierce, whom she married
on June 16, 1971; two sons, Jeffrey Pierce of Johnstown and William Pierce of Gloversville; one daughter, Susan Bolebruch of Gloversville; two sisters, Dale Dayton of Corinth and Shirley Wintermute of Meco; one brother, Michael Smith of Sacramento, Calif.; her parents, Harold and Hattie Boyer Smith of Lassellsville; one grandson, Ryan Bolebruch of Gloversville; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory, Schenectady. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to American Lung Association.
John A. Shoop
John A. Shoop, 76, of Johnstown, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 27, 1925 in Gloversville, the son of John and Augusta Lucia Shoop. He graduated from Gloversville High School and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the Marine Corps.
He was a self-employed carpenter for several years and later employed at Treher & Jung Inc. in Gloversville as a carpenter. At the time of his retirement he was a self-employed contractor in the area.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville and a member of Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Department for 51 years; a former member of Star Scout in Boy Scout Troop 15 of Sacred Heart Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Shirley Gugenberger, whom he married
in October 1983; one son, John J. Shoop of Gloversville; one stepson, Albert Gugenberger of Casa Grande, Ariz.; four daughters, Valerie Shoop and Judy Swart, both of Gloversville, Jane Cancio of Galway and Barbara McGrattan of Fairport, N.Y.; three stepdaughters, Susan Tagliatela and Patricia Capparello, both of Gloversville and Nancy Insogna of Caroga Lake; one sister, Jean Cox of Lakeland, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Lucia Simmering.
The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A prayer service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. David L. Tressic, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice.
