Richard C. Bell

Mr. Richard "Ike" C. Bell, 71, of Corbin Hill Road, Sprakers, N.Y., died Sunday evening, Nov. 18, at home after a long illness.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1930 in Gloversville, the son of Clarence and Madge McDuffee Bell. Mr. Bell was educated in Fultonville schools. He was a lifelong area resident of Charleston, N.Y.

Mr. Bell was employed as a truck driver for Cobleskill Stone Products and retired in 1999. He previously was the owner and operator of Ike's Place in Charleston. Prior to that, he was employed at Glen Mohawk Milk Association of Fultonville for 13 years and prior to that, he and his father operated the former Bell Dairy Farm.

Mr. Bell was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army.

He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of Esperance Elks Lodge No. 2507; Johnstown Moose Lodge No. 1185; and a former member of the Charleston Volunteer Fire Department.

On Aug. 22, 1953, he married Nita P. Pedrick Bell at Johnstown Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nita P. Bell of the town of Charleston; five sons and daughters-in-law, Richard J. and Leslie Bell of Canajoharie, N.Y., Randal C. and Maryella Bell of Carlisle, N.Y.; Clayton "Terry" and Debbie Bell of the town of Palatine, N.Y., Steven L. Bell of the town of Charleston; and Alan W. and Lisa Bell of Ames, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Arlene Bell of the town of Charleston; one sister, Clara B. Bronk of Canajoharie; two aunts, Florence Bell of Fonda, N.Y. and Dorothy Sutton of Schenectady, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Adrianne and Aaron Bell of the town of Palatine; Randi Bell of Carlisle; Theresa Coso and Kristen and Tyler Bell, both of Ames; Richard A. Bell of Connecticut; and Jason and Gavin Granger of Canajoharie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, where memorial services will follow at 8 p.m. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Burial will take place at Christian Church cemetery, Charleston, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Marguerite Knoff Best

Marguerite Knoff Best, 101, a Gloversville native, died Nov. 6 at Calico Rock, Ark.

Survivors are sister, Marian Selmser; daughter, Patricia Booth of Akron, Ohio; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place, remains will be placed in the family plot at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville.

Lyndon B. Harvey

Lyndon B. Harvey, 76, of Oakland Avenue, Gloversville, died Monday, Nov. 19, at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility.

Mr. Harvey was born on Aug. 20, 1925 in Gloversville, the son of Herbert and Harriet Dorn Harvey. He was a 1944 graduate of Gloversville High School.

He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 on the USS Tyrrell. He received the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and one star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal.

He was an electronics technician, employed by General Electric Co., Schenectady for 35 years.

He was a member of the former First Baptist Church and a former co-president of the McNab School PTA, both of Gloversville; the GE Quarter Century Club, the National Woodcarvers Association and the International Actors Theater Stage Association.

He was married on May 12, 1951 to the former Joan Madden, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Harriet Harvey Tyrrell of Gloversville; daughter, Melinda Sheyon of Glenville, N.Y.; sons, James L. Harvey of Branford, Conn. and Jon A. Harvey of Gloversville; granddaughters, Adrienne Sheyon, Stephanie Sheyon and Summer Harvey; two nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by one sister, Sheryl Hoagaboon.

There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to North Bush United Methodist Church, 1009 North Bush Road, Caroga Lake, NY 12032, or the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078. A private funeral service will be held Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc. at the convenience of the family.

Carleton Hine

Carleton Hine, 85, of Gloversville, died Saturday, Nov. 17, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

He was born on Jan. 2, 1916 in Gloversville, the son of William and Lillian Gray Hine. He attended Gloversville schools and was a lifelong area resident.

He was employed by Independent Leather Co. and retired in 1984.

Survivors include one son, Robert Barter of Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, Patricia A. Nellis of Caroga Lake and Joan Wanderlick of Orange, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Hine; three infant sisters; and one grandson, John Wanderlick.

The family will be receiving friends from 9 to 10 a.m. today at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will directly follow at 10 a.m. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Interment will take place at Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.

Ricky Dillenbeck

Mr. Ricky A. Dillenbeck, 48, of Rouse Road in Fort Plain, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 11, 1953, in Little Falls, N.Y., the son of William C. and Sadie H. (Weaver) Dillenbeck. He was educated in area country schools and then employed at Lexington Industries in Gloversville for 30 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia, an avid bowler and a sports enthusiast.

Mr. Dillenbeck is survived by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Jeffrey Heiser of Canajoharie; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alan W. Dillenbeck of Plymouth, Mass., and Kevin and Alice Dillenbeck of Canajoharie; three nieces, Jessica Dillenbeck of Palatine Bridge, Kaley Dillenbeck and Lindsey Heiser of Canajoharie; three nephews Justin and William Dillenbeck, and Travis Heiser, all of Canajoharie; one great-niece, Alexz Lathers of Palatine Bridge; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Church Street in Canajoharie. Rev. Gail Wolling, pastor of St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie, will be officiating. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home Inc., 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie. Burial will be at Fort Plain cemetery. Contributions can be mailed to Lexington Center, 127 E. State St., Gloversville, NY 12078 or Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

Lillian Keysor Hine

Lillian Keysor Hine, 100, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, where she had been a patient for the past month. For the past year, she had resided at Pineview Commons Home for Adults. Prior to that, she had resided on the Gloversville-Caroga Lake Road in the town of Johnstown for more than 50 years.

She was born Lillian May Russell in Catskill, Greene County, N.Y., on May 13, 1901, the daughter of Burgess William Russell and Bertha Anna Lane Russell. She was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Belle Russell Schreiber, in 1946.

She moved to New York City in 1919 and worked as a secretary in a law firm. Upon coming to Gloversville in later years, she worked as a secretary for the Niagara Mohawk Power & Light Co. Her final place of employment was at the Fred C. Miller Glove Company, and she retired in 1954.

On Christmas Eve 1928, she married Amos C. Keysor. He died in February 1950. She was also predeceased by Chauncey M. Steele in June 1966, and Norman E. Hine in November 1973.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Keysor Stofelano; three grandchildren, Stephen Stofelano of Albany, Michael Stofelano of Colonie and Marie Anne Shoop of Gloversville; and her wonderful great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Stofelano of Albany, Melissa, Michael and Kristin Stofelano of Colonie, and Russell, Jeremy and Bridget Shoop of Gloversville.

Lillian was a member of the former Kingsborough Presbyterian Church in Gloversville, its Philathea Class and the 1793 Club. Her hobbies were gardening, crafts, birds and music.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Elinor Ann Barron

Elinor Ann Barron, 91, of Kennesaw, Ga., died Monday, Nov. 12.

A native of Gloversville, N.Y., Mrs. Barron moved to Kennesaw, Ga., eight years ago. She was of the Lutheran faith.

She is survived by a sister, Jean France of Kennesaw, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Carolyn Papa.

No services will be held. Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Harry Finkle

Harry Finkle, 87, of Union Street, Schenectady, formerly of Coolidge Road, Amsterdam, passed away Monday night at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.

He was born on March 2, 1914, in Gloversville, N.Y., the son of Isaac and Bertha Kleinsinger Finkle. He was a resident of Gloversville until moving to Amsterdam in 1950, and he later moved to Schenectady, where he resided the past two years. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School.

Mr. Finkle was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army.

Mr. Finkle helped his family found what was known as Finkle Candy Co. of Gloversville. He purchased Hill & Markes Inc. of Amsterdam in 1947. In the course of building the business, he developed the culture of Hill & Markes Inc. as the community recognizes it today. He served as its chief executive officer until the time of his death.

Mr. Finkle was a member of the Congregation Sons of Israel Synagogue and was its president for the eight years. He was a member of B'Nai B'rith in Amsterdam for many years. He helped lead the United Jewish Appeal in Amsterdam and was a member of the Jewish War Vets.

He married the former Harriet Nessel on Dec. 28, 1946. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Melanie Finkle of Albany; his daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Neal Packer of Niskayuna; his brother, Leon Finkle of Gloversville; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Congregation Sons of Israel Synagogue, Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Rabbi Morris Zimbalist will officiate. Burial will take place in Congregation Sons of Israel cemetery, Cranesville. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Family Services, 877 Madison Ave., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Mr. Harry Finkle. A period of mourning will be observed at the home of Andrea and Neal Packer, 20 Covington Court, Niskayuna.
