Yedda Epstein Frisch

Yedda Epstein Frisch, 91, of Gloversville, died Monday, Nov. 12, at Wellington Regional Hospital, Wellington, Fla.

She was born on June 16, 1910, in Gloversville, the daughter of Joseph and Ethel Niegelberg. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and a resident of Gloversville at the time of her death.

She was a member of Knesseth Israel Synagogue.

She is survived by one sister, Rose Herwood of Green Acres, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, David Epstein. Later she married David L. Frisch, who died June 28, 1999.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Knesseth Israel cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to United Jewish Appeal. Arrangements are by Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville.

Helen Hoyt

Mrs. Helen M. Hoyt, 71, of Miller Street, Johnstown, died Sunday, Nov. 11, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a brief illness.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1930, in Gloversville, the daughter of Francis and Nettie McDougall Herrick.

Mrs. Hoyt worked for many years at Breton Industries and Esquire Novelty Corp., both of Amsterdam. Most recently, she was employed with the Senior Citizens Service Center of Gloversville and Fulton County.

She was a member of Fremont Street United Methodist Church and Johnstown Women of the Moose.

Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Hoyt Sr., whom she married on Aug. 30, 1947; four sons, Robert D. Hoyt and Leo J. Hoyt, both of Amsterdam, Ronald E. Hoyt of Albany and Richard A. Hoyt of Johnstown; four daughters, Judith A. Pettit of Colonie, Karen S. Shutts of Georgia, Jean M. Rote of Perth and Tami L. Hill of Gloversville; two sisters, Hilda Arnold of Seattle, Wash., and Ruthie Deere of Mayfield; one brother, Marvin Herrick of Johnstown; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by one son, Francis C. Hoyt, who died in 1977; and one daughter, Linda L. Pickney, who died in 1995.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Fremont Street United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont St., Gloversville. The Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. will officiate. Burial will take place in Evergreen cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to American Diabetes Association, New York State Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.

Olive Sage

Olive Shurter Sage, 85, of Upper Samsonville Road, died Monday at her home.

She was born on Dec. 20, 1915, in Samsonville, the daughter of the late Jessie and Anna Traver Shurter.

Mrs. Sage was a member of Samsonville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Rodney Sage of Samsonville; a stepson, Richard Sage of Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother, Lawrence Shurter of West Shokan; two granddaughters, Julie and Jenny Sage; and a niece, Racine Shurter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Claude O. Sage, on Feb. 1, 1988.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 Forty-Second St., Kerhonkson. The Rev. Yani Yoo will officiate. Burial will take place in Palentown cemetery.

Ida Pabis

Ida M. Phillips Pabis, age 72, of Petoff Garden Apartments, died Sunday, Nov. 11, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She was a longtime resident of South Second Avenue in Broadalbin.

She was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Mayfield, N.Y., the daughter of Kenneth and Ruth Baum Phillips. She attended Broadalbin Central School, where she graduated in 1947. She was a payroll clerk employed by the Johnstown Hospital for 29 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin.

On October 1, 1950, she married Joseph F. Pabis, who died March 8, 1991. She is survived by her daughter Jill and her husband Peter Lindsay of Queensbury, N.Y.; her daughter Lisa and her husband Tony Cassiere of Merritt Island, Fla.; her grandson Anthony Joseph Cassiere; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including her very special niece Sandy Bruse of Broadalbin. She was predeceased by her brother, James A. Phillips and sister Mary Pixley.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul R. Moyer officiating. Interment will take place at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, 54 W. Main St., Broadalbin, NY 12025. Arrangements are by Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home.

Bill Tuttle

Mr. William "Bill" Ambrose Tuttle, 73, of Chamberlain Drive, Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown, after a brief period of illness.

He was born May 7, 1928, in Charleston Four Corners, the son of the late Elmer and Dora Grow Tuttle. He was educated in one-room school houses located in Charleston and Randall, then attended school in Johnstown.

Mr. Tuttle worked as a truck driver, glass worker, and lastly as a custodian for the Johnstown School District, retiring in 1992. In honor of his retirement, the Glebe Street student body and teachers spelled out "Good Luck Mr. Tuttle" as his son flew him over the school.

He was a member of the Johnstown-Gloversville First United Methodist Church, was an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman, golfer, camper and volunteer fireman for the town of Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by Maryellen M. Grant Tuttle, the love of his life for 55 years, whom he married April 18, 1946, who will miss him forever; one son and his family, William G. Tuttle of Florence, Ariz.; and one daughter, Gail Bush and her family of Johnstown. His five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren brought special joy to him. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to JAVAC, Nathan Littauer Hospital's ER Staff, Albany Medical Center and the Wells Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Dorothy Okray officiating. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to JAVAC or to the charity of one's choice.

Mark Schwabrow

Mark E. Schwabrow, 34, of Auriesville Road, town of Glen, passed away Monday at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Amsterdam on May 5, 1967, a son of Claudia and Richard Bielecki and Susan and Willis Schwabrow. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Fonda-Fultonville and Amsterdam Schools.

He was employed as a diesel mechanic, most recently by the Mohawk Valley Trucking and Leasing Company of Amsterdam. He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include two sons, Joshua Mark Schwabrow and Samuel Karl Schwabrow of Snow Camp, N.C.; one daughter, Julia Marie Schwabrow of Snow Camp, N.C.; his mother, Claudia Bielecki and step-father Richard of Amsterdam; his father, Willis Schwabrow, and step-mother Susan of Johnstown; maternal grandmother Irene DeGroff of Amsterdam; paternal grandmother Gretchen Schwabrow of Fort Plain; one brother, Robert Schwabrow of Broadalbin; and a sister-in-law, Kelle Schwabrow of Auriesville.

He was married to the former Karen Schmaeh of Snow Camp, N.C. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Orville J. Hine officiating. Calling hours were private. Cremation took place in Vale cemetery Crematorium in Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, c/o Community Center, Riverfront Center, P.O. Box 904, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation c/o the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc.

Julia Page

Julia M. (Fish) Page died at her daughter's home on Nov. 8. She was born on Oct. 10, 1918, in Indian Lake, N.Y., the daughter of James and Ethel Mae Payne Fish. She was a housewife, worked as an agriculture specialist, then as a seamstress in Glendale, Ariz. She is survived by four sons, three daughters, three sisters, a brother, 35 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Thomas F. Steenburgh

Thomas F. Steenburgh, 57, of 230 N. Hoopes Ave., Auburn, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 17, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Gloversville, the son of Frank David and Dora Fellows Steenburgh. He was a graduate of SUNY Brockport and received his MS in biology from the University of South Dakota.

He was the former academic dean at Cayuga Community College in Auburn and presently was a professor at both CCC and Wells College.

Thomas was a member of St. Peter &John Episcopal Church and served on the board of directors for several local charities. He enjoyed playing racquetball and was an avid softball player with the Barristers.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kippola Steenburgh; his mother, Dora Steenburgh of Johnstown, N.Y.; two sons, Thomas J. and his wife, Laura, of Boston, and Eric M. of New Haven, Conn.; a daughter, Dr. Erin Steenburgh, and her fiance, Dr. Vishal Thanik of Buffalo; five brothers, Eric and his wife, Maureen; Frank and his wife, Fran; Karl and his wife, Peggy; and William and his wife, Lynn, all of Rochester; Paul and his wife, Bonnie, of St. Johnsville, N.Y.; a sister, Dale Kovarovic, and her husband, Lawrence, of Connecticut; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at St. Peter and John Episcopal Church, 169 Genesee St., Auburn, where a funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21. The Rev. Douglas Taylor-Weiss will officiate. Burial will take place at Fort Hill cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions in his name to the general scholarship fund at Cayuga Community College, 197 Franklin St., Auburn, NY 13021. Arrangements are by Langham Funeral Home, Auburn.
