Bernard Masker
Mr. Bernard Masker, 85, formerly of Lee Avenue, Gloversville, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a long illness.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1916 in Vilna, Poland, the son of the late Josef and Ida Harris Maskor. He was educated in Gloversville schools.
He worked in the leather industry as a chemist and worked at the former Martin-Deichsel Leather Co. He retired about 18 years ago.
He was a former member of the former Elks Club in Gloversville.
He is survived by two daughters, Sally Seeley of Delanson and Lois Moore of Hamlin, N.Y.; one son, Robert Masker of Randolph, N.J.; one brother, Paul Masker of New York City; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one nephew. He was married
to the former Gene Martin Masker on Feb. 23, 1941 and she died in 1991.
A calling hour will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of Johnstown Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will take place at Ferndale cemetery in Johnstown.
Chester W. Jones
Chester W. Jones, age 79, of Barker Road, Gloversville, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at Seton Health-St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, N.Y. He was born on Jan. 23, 1922 in Providence, R.I., the son of Chester and Inez Sprague Jones.
He served in the Army during World War II from 1942-1947, and received the Purple Heart in recognition of the wound he received from machine-gun fire. After the war, he came to the Albany area, where he resided for 28 years. He later lived in Benson, and finally in Gloversville, also wintering in Palmetto, Fla. for the past 20 years.
He was employed as a supervisor for 18 years by Tobin Packing Company, Albany. He was also a private painting contractor in the Albany area. In the late 1970s and early 1980s he served two terms as Superintendent of Highways for the town of Benson.
Mr. Jones was a member of Fulton County D.A.V. Chapter 122, the Gloversville Moose Lodge 351, the Johnstown V.F.W. Post 510, the Northville American Legion Post, and the Military Order of Purple Heart, Troy, N.Y. He was the Commander of the New York State Disabled American Veterans from 1971-1972.
He was married
on Aug. 29 1970 to Norma Raymond Gay, who survives. Also surviving are 10 sons and daughters: sons, Thomas Jones, Florida; James Jones, Troy; John Jones, New Hampshire; Lawrence Gay, Edmeston, NY; Thomas Gay, Anchorage, Alaska; Michael Gay, Florida; daughters, Joan Delehanty, Colonie; Jean Allen, East Greenbush; Sandra Hackbirth, Texas; Mary Moyer, Johnstown; brother, Norman Jones, R.I., and sisters, Gloria Harlow, R.I. and Jacqueline Morrisette, R.I. Numerous grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his first wife, Theresa Urgento Jones, and his sister ,Norma Jackman.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc. 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Winston Hallett officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at Saratoga National cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the D.A.V. Morris Adelman
Morris "Moe" Adelman, 84, of Gloversville, died Wednesday evening at his home.
Mr. Adelman was born on March 8, 1917 in Gloversville, the son of William and Ida Stein Adelman. He graduated from Gloversville High School and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Adelman was employed in a family business, the Adelman Leather Co. of Gloversville, for several years. He later owned and operated the Supreme Markets of Broadalbin, N.Y. for 20 years.
Mr. Adelman was a member of the Knesseth Israel Synagogue of Gloversville for over 51 years; was also a member of the Jewish Community Center and formerly served on its board of directors. Mr. Adelman was a 40-year member of Pine Brook Golf Club, Gloversville. He was a member of the Commercial and the Gloversville Merchants bowling leagues. Mr. Adelman was very active in sports all of his life, including racquetball, golf and tennis.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Cramer Adelman, whom he married
on July 2, 1944; one son, Glenn, and his wife, Linda Adelman, of Johnstown; two daughters, Diane, and her husband, John Orloff of Sacandaga Park, N.Y., Peggy and her husband, Chris Livingstone, of New Milford, Conn.; one brother, Sidney, and his wife, Miriam Adelman, of Gloversville; two grandsons, Bryan Adelman of Rochester, N.Y. and John Orloff Jr. of Sacandaga Park; three granddaughters, Julie Adelman of Johnstown, Jennifer and Kelly Livingstone of New Milford, Conn.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many special loving friends and relatives.
Mr. Adelman was predeceased by one brother, Jack Adelman; and two sisters, Elizabeth Rubin and Anne Ginsburgh.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday at Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 E. Fulton St., Gloversville. Rabbi Martin Gordon officiated. Interment took place in Knesseth Israel cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or Knesseth Israel Synagogue. Arrangements are by Hollenbeck Funeral Home Inc., 4 Second Ave., Gloversville.
Olive Morrison
Olive Morrison, age 96, of Gloversville, died Friday at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home of Gloversville. Born on July 30, 1905 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of Frank and Alice McCoy Knapp. She attended Johnstown schools and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Morrison was a former textile worker in the Fulton County area.
Mrs. Morrison attended the Bleecker Street Church of Christ of Gloversville.
Mrs. Morrison was predeceased by her husband, Burton Morrison, who died in 1965, whom she married
on Nov. 22, 1922.
Survivors include one son, Arthur F. Morrison Sr. of Johnstown; two daughters, Joan Rorick of Broadalbin, N.Y. and Betty Sweet of Gloversville; 50 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 25 great, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four sons, James, Robert, Kenneth and Burton Morrison Jr.; two daughters, Ruth Morrison and Mildred Carter; two brothers, Jason and Gilroy Knapp; one sister, Lulu Brown; one grandson, John Morrison. and one great granddaughter, Monica Hamel.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Jones, pastor of the Fremont Street United Methodist Church of Gloversville, officiating. Interment will take place in the Ferndale cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
Gordon F. Tuttle
Gordon F. Tuttle, former general secretary of the Gloversville YMCA, died Nov. 18, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 85, with his family by his side.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Maxine Tuttle, and his three children, Judyth Chism of Richmond, Utah, Peter Tuttle of Cleveland, Ohio and Patricia Subik of Amsterdam, N.Y.
A celebration of his life was held on Nov. 20, in Salt Lake City, Utah with family from all over the United States in attendance. A second celebration of his life will be held in Washington, Utah at a future date for the many friends that he made when he and Maxine settled there after his retirement. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in his name be made to the YMCA.
Kenneth Earl Merry
Kenneth Earl Merry, 87, of Johnstown, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
Mr. Merry was born on November 3, 1914, the son of Earl and Bessie Sherwood Merry.
He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Amsterdam.
During World War II, Mr. Merry served as a Sargent with the United States Army. He served in France, Germany and Italy and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and a conspicuous service medal.
Mr. Merry was employed by the Schenectady Gazette, the Amsterdam Recorder and lastly, the Leader - Herald where he worked in display advertising until his retirement.
He was a communicant of the United Methodist Church, Amsterdam.
He is survived by his son, Robert Merry and his wife Patricia of Utica; a daughter, Margaret Merry of Amsterdam; 3 grandchildren, Robert Merry Jr., Darryl Merry and Brian Merry; 3 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Jessica and David Merry; and his companion, Kathleen Kennedy of Johnstown.
A graveside service will be held at the Fairview cemetery, Amsterdam, in the spring.

Irving Plaskat
Irving Plaskat, 87, of Trackside Apartments, Johnstown, died Thursday at the home of his niece in Thurmont, MD after a long illness.
He was born June 18, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Herman and Mary Stubing Plasket.
Mr. Plaskat was a retired army Sergeant-major and served during World War II. He was a member of the Northville American Legion, Northville Presbyterian Church, Fish House Lodge #298 F&AM, the Johnstown 50+ Senior Citizens, and the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens.
Mr. Plaskat worked as an administrative assistant to the New York City Water Board of Water Supply in Hope Falls until 1967 when he moved to Northville. He worked for the Gloversville Post Office, retiring in 1972. He moved to Johnstown in 1985.
For more than 20 years he and his wife spent summers in Foley, AL.
He was married
to Doris A. Story Plaskat on September 26, 1943. Mrs. Plaskat died February 26, 1998.
Mr. Plaskat is survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the A.G. Funeral Home, inc., 215 Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Paul Hopewood officiating.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Members of the Fish House Lodge #298 F&AM will conduct a ritual at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Evergreen cemetery in Fonda.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
