Kathleen A. Baker

PHELPS - Kathleen A. Baker, 72, of Clifton Street, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
The family invited friends of Kathleen's to share with them in the celebration of her life Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 at the Phelps American Legion Home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Union Springs cemetery.
Friends may contribute to the Phelps Fire Department Ambulance Fund in Kathleen's memory.
Kathleen was born Aug. 24, 2003, in Union Springs, the daughter of Albert and Rose Burr and graduate with honors from Waterloo High School in 1948. She retired from Genesee Regional Home Care in Newark after 15 years of service. She worked with her husband at the Phelps Hotel and Owney's Bar and Grill for many years.
She is survived by her children, Michael T. Baker, Daniel R. Baker, Theresa Rowley and Mary M. Baker, all of Phelps; six grandchildren, Derek Baker, Joshua Baker, Kersten Adams, Jackie Rowley, Jim Rowley II and Angela Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps.

Robert L. Pierce Sr.

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Robert L. Pierce Sr., 87, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Family and friends called Sunday, Feb. 16 at John C. Johnson Funeral Home in Canandaigua. Robert's funeral service was celebrated Monday, Feb. 17 at the United Methodist Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in Pinebank cemetery in Cheshire at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in Robert's memory may be made to the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, Noah Building Fund.
Robert was born Oct. 5, 1915, in East Bloomfield, the son of the late Leon and Barbara Pierce. He owned and operated a dairy farm for 22 years, and worked for West Side Electric in Cheshire until his retirement in 1978.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Converse Pierce; three daughters, Carolyn (Hal) Wilson of Clifton Springs, Joan (Charles) Brown of Clifton Springs and Ellen (Don) Miller of Canandaigua; two sons, Robert L. (Diana) Pierce Jr. of Clifton Springs and David (Carol) Pierce of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Bernard L. Pierce of Canandaigua; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Melvin; sister, Ida Higley; grandson, Daniel Pierce; and a granddaughter, Stacey Brown.

Robert W. "Bob" Gillespie

SENECA FALLS/PHELPS - Robert W. "Bob" Gillespie, 79, of 55 Park St., died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan.
Friends called Friday, Feb. 21 at the Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home in Seneca Falls. The Kirk-Casey American Legion Post #366 Honor Guard conducted a military service on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 22 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marilyn Foster, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Phelps Fire Department Ambulance Fund, to Cerebral Palsy c/o the Elks Lodge 992 in Seneca Falls, or to the Alzheimers Association, 40 Prince St., Rochester, 14607.
Bob was born April 17, 1923, in Seneca Falls, the son of Percy and Carrie Sisson Gillespie. He graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1942. He moved to Phelps in 1973. He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the Navy, arriving at Sampson Naval Base Feb. 1, 1943. After his basic training, Bob was sent to Submarine Torpedo School in Newport, R.I., Destroyer Base Advanced Aerial Torpedo School in San Diego and Almeda Navy Air Station in California. He was then shipped to Subic Bay Naval Base, Samara, Philippine Islands, where he served as Naval torpedoman second class.
After he was discharged in 1946 he worked at Goulds Pumps as master toolmaker for 43 years, retiring in 1985. Bob loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. After his retirement, he spent his time hunting and fishing. He spent winters on his hobby as an amateur taxidermist. He was a member of the Kirk-Casey American Legion Post 366, Elks Lodge 992 and Goulds Pumps Quarter Century Club - all of Seneca Falls.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Barbara Sabin Sullivan Gillespie, of Phelps; two sons, William R. (Christine) Gillespie of Hamilton, Ohio, and Robert D. (Kathy) McLaughlin Gillespie of East Varick; one daughter, Nancy (John Levis) Gillespie Taylor of Seneca Falls; one stepdaughter, Nancy (George) Sullivan Grantling of Clyde; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Tiphanie) Gillespie of California, Gavin (Megan) Gillespie of Michigan, Christopher and Kyle Grantling of Clyde, and Courtney Taylor of Seneca Falls; one great-granddaughter, Avielle Gillespie; a niece; nephew; and cousins.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Diane Cross Gillespie, in 1970; and his sister, Ruth Mundt, in 1965.

MARGARET C. DUNHAM

PHELPS - Margaret C. Dunham, 81, of 1148 Route 96, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2003) at the Clifton Springs Hospital, in the presence of family members. Calling hours were held on Friday (Feb. 14) from 4 to 7 pm at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main St., Phelps. Funeral Services were held on Saturday (Feb. 15) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Shirley Filatreau officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery in the spring.
Mrs. Dunham was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Tyre, the daughter of James and Lena Baker Clark. She was a member of the Geneva VFW Post 2670 Ladies Auxiliary and the Seeley b. Parrish American Legion Pos6t 457 Ladies Auxiliary. She was past regent of the Women of the Moose.
Contributions may be directed to the Finger Lakes Ambulance, 20 Crane St., Clifton Springs, 14432 or to the Phelps volunteer Ambulance, 7 Exchange St., Phelps, 14532.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Dunham; children Alan (Patty) Dunham, Nancy (Dave) Osborne, Kathie (Jim) Lyons, Patti (Frank) Guererri, Marge (Ed) Fuller and Rick (Terry) Dunham; grandchildren, Jim (Tracey) and Tim (Donna) VanDamme, Scott (Nick), Larry (Heather) and Rosemary Guererri, Stacey (Tim) Riemer and Deanna Opdyke, Julie (Scott) Morgan and Todd Gurak; great-grandchildren; Jeremy, Erika, Daniel, Megan, Robie, Janelle, McKala Guererri, Jacob, Matthew, Zachary VanDamme, Zachary Dorr, Sidney Riemer and Logan Gurak; sisters, Daisy Ross, Charlotte (Skip) Alexander, Rocky Clark and Lewis (Hazel) Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her bothers, Francis and Clarence; sisters, Dorothy Jenkins, Elsie Schleman, Velma Madigan and Gertrude Brinkerhoff; and great-grandson, Trevor VanDamme.

Ronald A. Kerr

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Ronald A. Kerr died on St. Patrick's Day, Monday, March 17, 2003.
Friends called Thursday, March 20 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services were Friday, March 21 at the funeral home.
Ronald was born Dec. 25, 1947, a son to Mary Donigan and Joseph Kerr of Syracuse. He grew up in Syracuse and attended college in North Dakota and Washington, graduating with degrees in fine arts and education. He was employed at Superior Truck Lines as a safety officer.
Ronald enjoyed history, boating, artistic pursuits and spending time with his family. He was known for his dry wit and sense of humor, and was very close to his wife and children. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia O'Brien; daughter, Megan E. Kerr and her family, Douglas and Emily Bostock; sons, Devon A. and Ryan T.; brothers, Richard (Merilee) Kerr of Florida, Gary (Joan) Kerr of Solvay and Marin (Mary) Kerr of Cicero; sisters, Mary Beth Rancier of Clay and Terra (Michael) Vacciano of Syracuse; and brothers-in-law, James (Maria) O'Brien of Washington, Alan (Linda) O'Brien of New Jersey and Kevin (Diane) O'Brien of Manchester.
He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph, who died in 1978.

Patricia E. Cooper

PHELPS - Patricia E. Cooper, 47, of Route 14, entered eternal rest Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends and family attended calling hours Sunday, March 16 at the Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home in Lyons. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 17 at St. Francis Church in Phelps.
Contributions in Patricia's memory may be made to the Oaks Corners Fire Department, Cross Road, Oaks Corners, 14518, to the American Cancer Fund, or to the American Liver Foundation, 25 Canterbury Rd., Suite 316, Rochester, 14607.
Pat was born Sept. 9, 1955, in Lyons, a daughter to Joseph and Dorothea Benge Schetrompf. She was employed with the Seneca-Cayuga ARC in Waterloo.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace Jr.; two sons, C.J. (Holly) Upchurch of Macedon and Wallace (Greta) Cooper III of Phelps; one granddaughter, Madison Coralee Upchurch; parents, Joseph "Buck" and Dorothea Schetrompf of Phelps; one brother, Roger (Kris) Schetrompf of Lyons; one sister Penny (Bill) Turnbull of Phelps; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; two great-nephews; three great-nieces; in-laws, Wallace Sr. and Gale Cooper of Lyons; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and many loving and special friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Randy Lee Schetrompf.

Valerie A. Contreras

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Valerie A. Contreras, 48, of Mill Road, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2003 at home after a long illness.
Friends called Tuesday, March 18 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services followed at the funeral home, with the Rev. Edward Dillon officiating. Interment will be in Orleans cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Valerie was born Feb. 14, 1955, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of Stanleigh (Gene) and Rebecca Cook and had lived in the area most of her life. She retired from Wilson Farms as a bookkeeper due to her health. Valerie enjoyed being outdoors and barbecuing with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Javier; her children, Marc (Myndi) Contreras of Clifton Springs, Veronica (Shawn) Whalen of Canandaigua and Noella (Chad) Bouwens of Clifton Springs; her mother, Rebecca Cook; three grandchildren; and several aunts and uncles.
She was predeceased by her father, Stanleigh Cook.

Wilma D. Angelo

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Wilma Dorthea Angelo, 73, died peacefully Sunday, March 16, 2003 at her home with her family by her side.
Family and friends called Tuesday, March 18 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home in Newark. A funeral service was held Wednesday, Marcy 19 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Burial followed in Friendship cemetery in Farmington.
In memory of Mrs. Angelo, please make contributions to Ontario-Yates Hospice, c/o Nursing Service, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, 14456, to the Palmyra VFW Post 6778, Route 31, Palmyra, 14522, or to the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road North, Rochester, 14609.
Mrs. Angelo was born July 6, 1929, the daughter of Charles and Grace White Kopp. She worked as a secretary for Rochester Drug Co. and American Can. Mrs. Angelo was the organist for St. John Lutheran Church in Fairport for many years. She enjoyed camping with her family, camp fires and dancing.
She will be missed by her loving husband of 55 years, Paul A. Angelo; sons, Patrick (Sandra) of Marion and Charles (Laura) Angelo of Palmyra; daughters, Kathleen (Nelson) LaBarron of Greece, Linda (Victor) Lewis of Florida, Cheryl (Bob) Bump and Paula (Thomas) Schweizer, both of Clifton Springs; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Kopp Jr. of Branchport; sister, Bertha Mae Plumb of Macedon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Bonnie; and brother, Billy.

Kenneth J. Cockett

OAKS CORNERS - Kenneth Cockett, 76, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003 at the Hospeace House in Naples.
Friends called Thursday, March 20 at the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Friday, March 21 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Friends may make contributions in Ken's memory to the Hospeace House, P.O. Box 343, Naples, 14512.
Ken was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Rochester, the son of Sidney and Addie Cockett, and had lived in this area all of his life. He retired from Tyman Ford in Geneva in 1980 as service manager. Ken served in the Army during World War II, and was a member of the Phelps American Legion Post 1346.
He is survived by his children, Curt Cockett of Phelps, Kevin Cockett of Phelps, Brett Cockett of Oaks Corners, Nancy Cockett of Rochester and Brian Cockett of Oaks Corners; and their mother, Joan Canfield Cockett of Phelps; two grandchildren, Bradley and Jessica Cockett; sister, Nancy (Bud) Ward of Rome; two brothers, David Cockett of Canandaigua and William Cockett of Florida; and several nieces.

Beverly Hobbs

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Beverly Hobbs, 77, of Clifton Springs, beloved mother, daughter and friend, died Friday, March 21, 2003 after a long convalescence.
She was a dedicated nurse with Clifton Springs Hospital for almost 30 years and truly lived to serve those close to her.
She began her life on a dairy farm outside of town, and attended a one-room schoolhouse prior to high school. She nursed everyone from patients and family to neighbors and stray animals. She will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Lannon; daughter, Patricia; son, Robert; and grandsons, Matthew, Adam, Dominic and Gregory.
She was predeceased by her husband, Padriac G. Hobbs; and daughter, Claudia.
