Benjamin V. Schillhour

CANANDAIGUA - Benjamin V. Schillhour, 88, of Tillotson Street, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at F. F. Thompson Hospital.
There were no prior calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate his life was held on Friday, Aug. 22 at the John C. Johnson Funeral Home in Canandaigua. Interment will be in Sand Hill cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York, 16 Prince St., Rochester, 15607.
Mr. Schillhour was retired from the Lisk Manufacturing Co. in Canandaigua. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Margaret (Walter) Mattoon of Clifton Springs, Kathy Marshall of New Port Richey, Fla., and Ann Hilmire of Geneva; three sons, Edward "Sonny" (Pauline) McCormick of Geneva, Fred (Hazel) McCorminck Sr. and Harry (Marty) McCormick, both of Canandaigua; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eliza, in 2002.

Geraldine R. Slate

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Geraldine R. Slate, 82, of 53 Stephens St., died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends called on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. A memorial service was held Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Brewer officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Wellsey Island cemetery.
It is suggested that contributions be made to The House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, 14432.
Mrs. Slate was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Watertown, the daughter of the late William and Edith Waltz Devine. She worked for Jackson-Perkins in Newark and also at the Newark Pik Quick.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Tom) Garnsey-Bagshaw of Clifton Springs; son, Richard (Brenda) Slate of Macedon; grandchildren, Sandy (Tom) Martin of Skaneateles, Vicky (Brian) McGrattan of Phelps, Cindy (Steven) DeRycke of Newark, Michael (Renee Sharrow) Garnsey of Newark, Michelle (Michael) Philipps of Walworth, Chad E. Bagshaw of Newark and Tom (Melanie) Bagshaw Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Francis Devin of Watertown; close family friend, Betty Housel of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Jean Devine.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps.

Janet M. Warner

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Janet M. Warner, 57, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at Geneva General Hospital after a long illness..
Friends called on Monday, Aug. 18 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 19 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery.
Friends may contribute to the American Kidney Fund.
Janet was born June 18, 1946, in Downsville, the daughter of Harry and Charlotte Barnhart, and grew up in Gorham. She had lived in Clifton Springs for more than 35 years.
Janet enjoyed gardening and raising her roses. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and many dear friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Walter, of Clifton Springs; daughters, Debbie Porterfield of Lyons and Tammy (Scott) Coston of Clifton Springs; son, Jeff (Colleen) Warner of Greece; eight grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Kathy) Barnhart of Michigan and Jim (Peggy) Barnhart of Syracuse; sisters, Betty (Ralph) Loss of Branchport and Lynn (David) Bodine of Gorham; and several nieces and nephews.

Lonnie A. Silsby

PHELPS - Lonnie A. Silsby, 49, of 1379 Griffith Road, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Friends called at the Oaks Corners Presbyterian Church, Pre-Emption Road. Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 30 at the church, with the Rev. Ellen Donnan Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery in Oaks Corners with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund to be established for the Silsby children, c/o Kim Silsby, Oaks Corners Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 6, Oaks Corners, 14518.
Lonnie was born Jan. 6, 1954, the son of Frank and Agnes Whitney Silsby. He was a very active member of the Oaks Corners Presbyterian Church, and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Whitacre Silsby; children, Cody, Christopher, Samantha and Zachary Silsby, all of Phelps; parents, Frank and Agnes Silsby of Fine; brothers, Chuck Silsby of Las Vegas, Tim Silsby of Fine, Paul (Terry) Silsby of Syracuse, Pat (Maryann) Silsby of Oswegatchie, Mike (Renee) Silsby of Fine and Mark (Lena) Silsby of Newton Falls; a sister, Laurie (Time) Baise of Norwood; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Jr.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps.

Francis "Smitty" Smith

Phelps - Francis "Smitty" Smith, 76, formerly of Phelps, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at St. Francis Church in Phelps. Burial will be in Orleans cemetery.
Friends may contribute in Smitty's memory to the Open Door Mission in Rochester.
Smitty was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Gloversville, the son of Fred and Alice Murphy Smith, and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of George Washington University and retired from Odgen Telephone Co. as an accountant in 1997. Smitty had lived in Phelps from 1940 to 1950.
He is survived by his daughters, Joan (Tom) Kennedy of Rochester and Alexia (Gary Lamadore) Smith of New York City; and four grandchildren, Don, Paul, Kate, and Mike.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Champion Smith, in 1995.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps.

Elizabeth C. Armstrong

PHELPS - Elizabeth C. Armstrong, 69, of 2226 County Road 25, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003 at her home surrounded by her family.
Friends were invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps, with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery in Clifton Springs.
Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, Finger Lakes Region, 1595 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, 14620.
Mrs. Armstrong was born Sept. 3, 1933, in Benson, Vt., the daughter of Clinton and Elizabeth Dickinson Coon. She worked as a registered nurse for more than 18 years at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic, and retired from the Finger Lakes DDSO.
She is survived by four daughters, Jacqueline Armstrong of Pinnellas Park, Fla., Joyce (Leroy) Lewis of Lyons, Joanne (Richard) Mussau of Clifton Springs and Joan (Jeff) Armstrong-Burri of Clifton Springs; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles E. (Martha) Coon of Virginia, Harry Coon of Fort Ann, Robert (Mary) Coon of Grandville, William H. (Carol) Coon of Vermont and John Coon of Okalahoma; sister, Martha (William) Merscher of Clifton Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Armstrong, who died March 2, 2000; her brothers, Harold, Richard and Clinton Coon; and sister, Dorothy.

Lorraine Cayward

PHELPS - Lorraine Cayward, 83, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home.
Friends called Thursday, Sept. 4 at Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services were held Fri., Sept. 5 at the funeral home.
Donations in Lorraine's memory may be made to the Finger Lakes Ambulance Fund.
Lorraine was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Randolph, Neb., the daughter of Fred and Mae Coash, and had lived in the area for more than 75 years. Along with her husband, Paul, Lorraine owned and operated the Blue Eagle Tavern in Italy Hill. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family.
She is survived by her sons, Dale (Lourie) Cayward of Branchport and Lynn (Norma) Cayward of Auburn; two grandchildren, Bryan (Tamela) Cayward of Canandaigua and Heather Cayward of New Jersey; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Austin Cayward; four sisters, Norma Tunnison of Farmington, Carmen (Louis) Standish of South Carolina, Billie (Edward) Johnson of Victor and Phyllis (Boyd) Patterson of Canandaigua; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 1983; and her sister, Vivian Malone.

Julia E. Marsa

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Julia E. Marsa, 90, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital Nursing Home.
Friends called Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wed., Sept. 3 at St. Felix Church, with the Rev. Edward Dillon officiating. Interment will be in St. Rose cemetery in Shortsville.
Friends may make donations to their favorite charity.
Julia was born Aug. 27, 1913, in Shortsville, the daughter of Alfred and Josephine Marsa, and had lived in the area all her life. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends.
Julia was also a member of St. Felix Church and the Rosary Society.
She is survived by her sister, Louise Walters, of Shortsville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Francis and Alfred; and her sisters, Josephine and Mary.

G. Donald Treadwell

PHELPS/COLORADO -George Donald Treadwell, 65, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 in Woodland Park, Colo.
Friends called Friday, Sept. 5 at the Eacker Funeral Home, 47 Main St. in Phelps. Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 6 at the United Church of Phelps, with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn cemetery.
Friends may contribute to Happiness House, 731 Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva, 14456.
Donald was born Aug. 21, 1938, in Geneva, the son of George and Marjorie Switzer Treadwell. He had lived in the Phelps area until 2002 when he moved to Woodland Park, Colo. He was a graduate of the University of Rochester and served in the Air Force. Donald retired from Ontario Pipeline as controller. He had worked for Ontario and Seneca ARC as a supervisor of human services.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Susan C.; his mother, Marjorie Switzer Treadwell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons, Michael Treadwell of Portland, Ore., and Thomas (Jill) Treadwell of Lake Villa, Ill.; daughters, Donna Treadwell of Washington, D.C. and Judy (John) Gua of Woodland Park, Colo.; granddaughter, Margot; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Alice I. Bremer

PHELPS - Mrs. Alice I. Bremer, 80, formerly of 28 Mary St., died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic Extended Care Unit.
Friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Phelps, with the Rev. Edward Dillon officiating. Private burial will be in St. Francis cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Phelps Volunteer Fire Department, 7 Exchange St., Phelps, 14532 or Phelps Community Library, 15 Church St., Phelps, 14532.
Mrs. Bremer was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of the late Louis and Jennie Zeger VanDamme. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Phelps and retired from the Phelps-Clifton Springs School District.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Harry) Conklin of Phelps, Charlotte (Paul) McIntyre of Seneca Castle, Richard (Ann) Bremer of Phelps, and Ronald Bremer and friend, Sheryll, of Phelps; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pauline Bremer and Bernice Wilbur; brother-in-law, Robert Eider; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard F. Bremer Sr., who died July 18, 2000; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Edward Schermerhrn; brother-in-law, Harold Bremer; and sister-in-law, Lucille Eider.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps.
