Nora H. St. John, 90, of Silver Rock Trailer Park, Phoenix, died Monday. Born in Syracuse, she had also lived in Baldwinsville. She retired in 1975 as owner and operator of HalfWay Stop Restaurant in Baldwinsville after more than 40 years. She was a member of Pennellville First United Methodist Church. Her husband, Winford C. Sr., died in 1990. Survivors: Two daughters, Marion Jordan of Brewerton and Irene Rice of South Carolina; a son, Winford C. Eveline A. Myrick Murray, 81, of 9 Ontario St., Oswego, died Tuesday. She was born in Franklinville. She was a clerk at Greene's Department Store for 22 years and had also worked for Wayne Drug Store. Her first husband, Edward Perry, died in 1966; her second husband, William Murray, died in 1995; two sons, Edward and Francis Perry, also died previously. Survivors: A daughter, Ann Donahue of Wyoming; three stepdaughters, Catherine Sweeting of Oswego, Patricia Cory of Mexico and Theresa Hinman of Fulton; two stepsons, John Murray of Syracuse and Joseph Murray of Fulton; a sister, Olga Stevens of Syracuse; a brother, Ray Myrick of Florida; 19 grandchildren. Esad Nukic, 62, of 316 Elm St., Syracuse, died Monday. Born in Bosnia, he lived in Syracuse four years. He as an assembler at a manufacturing company in Syracuse. Survivors: His wife, the former Zora Stipetic; six sons, Halil and Ermin, both of Austria, and Ernad, Meho, Zoran and Senad, all of Syracuse; a sister, Suhreta Becirevic of Bosnia; a brother, Meho of Bosnia; 11 grandchildren. Hattie Belle Wightman Ostrander, 100, formerly of 330 Delaware St., Syracuse, died Tuesday at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Redfield, she attended Central City Business Institute and had lived in Canada many years. She worked for dormitory services at Syracuse University for 14 years and had also worked for Smith Corona. She and her family owned businesses in Alexandria Bay and the Thousand Islands, and she had played piano at Redwood Diner in Alexandria Bay. Her first husband, Fred Williams, died in 1965. Survivors: Two daughters, Kathleen Surdi of Florida and Muriel R. Perry of Camillus; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Theresa Abend St. Pierre, 94, of Hardscrabble Road, Erieville, died Tuesday at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. Born in East Syracuse, she lived in Cazenovia most of her life. She received a registered nurse degree from Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Buffalo and had worked there. She was a communicant of St. James Church and was a member of its Women's Society and an auxiliary member of its Legion of Mary. Her husband, Joseph Sr., died in 1994. Edward G. Samolis, 76, of Camillus died Tuesday. Born in Worcester, Mass., he lived in Fayetteville and Syracuse until moving to Camillus 25 years ago. He graduated from Worcester Tech. He retired in 1994 as an electrical engineer for Robson Woese Inc. in Syracuse. He was a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of America and a member of Trout Unlimited and Erie Canal Restoration Committee. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 44 years, the former Suzanne L. Milazzo; two daughters, Maria Sweeney of Syracuse and Ruth Sherman of Roanoke, Va.; two sons, Michael of Lake George and Mathew of Boston; a brother, Richard of Connecticut; five grandchildren. She was a cook for Saga Food Service at Colgate University, and a cook at Eaton Hotel and Gerrit Smith Infirmary in Eaton. Her husband of 24 years, Walton, died in 1969. He was a member of Oneida Owls Nest 1606, where he held several positions. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Dean Cunningham Post 1312, American Legion Post 169 in Oneida and Order of Odd Fellows. He was an Army veteran of World War II. She was a volunteer with several local organizations. John M. Gaffney, 77, of James Square Health and Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse, died Wednesday. Born in Sauquoit, he graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School, John Carroll University and received a master's degree from Syracuse University. He retired in 1980 as a treatment team worker in psychiatric care at Sunmount Developmental Center in Tupper Lake, after 25 years. He had worked at Utica State Hospital, Rome State School and Mount McGregor in Saratoga Springs. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. His wife, the former Rita White, died in 1988. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He worked 17 years at the Loblaws warehouse and was a member of Civil Service Employees Association. His wife of 43 years, the former Nettie M. Snyder, died in 1995.
