Jean D. Turner

HOMOSASSA, Fla./PITTSFORD - Jean D. Turner, 76, formerly of Pittsford, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 in Crystal River, Fla.
There were no prior calling hours. Friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 18 at St. Dominic's Church in Shortsville. Burial will be in St. Rose cemetery.
Donations may be made to the St. Dominic's Church Memorial Fund, 6 Canandaigua St., Shortsville, 14548.
Jean was born in Clifton Springs, the daughter of John and Margaret Driscoll and had lived in Homosassa, Fla. For the last six years. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Homosassa, Fla.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard H. Turner; son, James R. (Bonnie) Turner) of Clifton Springs; daughter, Pamela (Robert) DeLettera of Alpharetta, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother, Jack Driscoll.

Mabel DeMay Hommer

NEWARK - Mabel DeMay Kreiss Hommer, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at Newark Wayne Community Hospital as a result of an automobile accident on Main St.
Per Mabel's wishes, there were no calling hours. A memorial service was held Sunday, Oct. 26 at the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In memory of Mabel, please direct contributions to Park Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
Mabel was born May 13, 1922, in Lyons, the daughter of Frederick and Evelyn Colter Kreiss. She attended Clyde Central High School were she graduated in 1940. Mable was a member of Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. She had worked for Sarah Coventry for over 17 years and then Rose City Glass, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Firemen's Auxiliary for Newark (past president), Wayne County, Penn Yan (past president), Yates County and Northern Central (past president). She had volunteered many hours for the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary. Mabel enjoyed walking and you would see her all over town doing just that. Every year she participated in the CROP Walk and would be one of the first to finish. She always had a smile on her face and brought joy to many in the community. Mable will always be remembered for her outgoingness, youthfulness and love for others.
She will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen (Richard) Cooper of North Carolina and Karen (Nicholas) Cameron of Clifton Springs; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sharon (John) Houck of Penn Yan; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ludovic) Harent, Jane (Martin) Safford-Cameron, Christopher (Adrina) Cooper, Shannon Cooper, Michele (David) Houck-Maus and Karen Freshour; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Norma) Kreiss of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph L. DeMay in 1978, second husband, Duane N. Hommer in 1991; and her brother, Glenn Kreiss in 1995.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home in Newark.

Colista L. Jansen

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Colista L. Jansen, 51 days old, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Friends called Friday, Oct. 24 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs, where funeral services followed. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in East Palmyra cemetery.
Friends may contribute to the Ronald McDonald House, 333 W. Moreland Dr., Rochester 14620.
Colista was born Sept. 1, at Strong Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Amber Jansen, and was in the neonatal care unit since birth.
She is survived by her mother, Amber Jansen; grandparents; great-grandparents; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Roy H. Beal

LYONS - Roy H. Beal, 89, of Old Newark Road, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 1 at the St. John's Lutheran Church, in Lyons, with the Rev. Jack Bailey officiating. Burial will be in South Lyons cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 37, Lyons 14489.
Roy was born Sept. 18, 1914, in the town of Galen, a son of Harry and Emma Miller Beal. He was a veteran of the air corps during World War II a member and past exulted ruler of Elks BPOE Lodge 869 of Lyons, a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church and an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Garlic; a brother, Lester Beal of Phelps; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Arthur and Earl; and sisters, Helen Gansz and Lila Noble.

Ernest J. Fagner Sr.

PALMYRA - Ernest J. Fagner, Sr., 66, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at his home.
Family and friends called Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Robert L. Yost Funeral Home in Palmyra. A funeral service was Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Living Word Assembly of God Church in Ontario. The Rev. Barden Gerace Jr. presided. Burial will be in Palmyra cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 1400 N. Winton Rd., Rochester, 14609 or to the Living Word Assembly of God Church, 2344 Ridge Road, Ontario, 14519.
Ernie was born April 3, 1937, in Canandaigua, son of Ernest G. and Katherine Jansen Fagner. Ernie was a veteran of the Air Force. Ernie and the former Mary Ann Schutt were married Oct. 6, 1973, in Palmyra.
The Air Force flag was proudly flown at the funeral home in honor of his service to our country.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Ernest J. Fagner Jr. of Cohocton, Ellie Jo (Steve) Bonacci of Manchester, Julia House of Geneva, Dolores (Richard) McDaniel of Newark, Audrey (William) Gedney of Palmyra, and Guy (Sheryl) Powell of Romulus; his brothers, Gerry Fagner of Newark and Charles (Peg) Fagner of Phelps; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Shirley A. Verstreate

GENEVA - Shirley A. Verstreate, 68, of 39 Cortland St., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003 in Highland Hospital in Rochester.
There were no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Nov. 3 at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery in Clifton Springs.
Memorial contributions may be made to DeSales High School.
Shirley was born Oct. 22, 1935, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of the late Frank and Rosalie Maslyn Verstreate. She retired from K-Mart in Geneva and was a member of St. Stephen's Church.
She is survived by two nieces, Kay (Mark) Schiller of Penfield and Linda Eldridge of Lewisville, N.C.; one nephew, David Verstreate of East Amherst; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Verstreate.

Irma F. Keen

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Irma F. Keen, 76, of 14 Pearl St., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at the Huntington Nursing Home in Waterloo.
Friends called Friday, Nov. 7 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 8 at the funeral home with the Rev. Phil Tennies officiating. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery in Clifton Springs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clifton Springs Library, 4 Railroad Ave., Clifton Springs, 14432 or Happy Tails Humane Society of Ontario County, 2976 County Road 48, Canandaigua, 14424.
Mrs. Keen was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Heidelberg, Germany, the daughter of Peter and Marie Maier. She was a member of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer and worked in the Lobby Shop at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Keen retired from the Phelps-Clifton Springs School district after more than 25 years of service in the cafeteria. She was most proud of being an American citizen which she worked very hard to achieve.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Darell) Street of Stanley, James P. (Eileen) Keen of Woodbridge, Va., and Stephen Keen of Berkeley, Calif.; three grandchildren, Christopher (Kelly) Bourne, and Joshua Keen and James Keen; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Heinz, Horst, and Karl Maier of Germany, and Erich Maier of Australia; and many family members in Germany.

Alvin M. Silver

CANANDAIGUA - Alvin M. Silver, formerly of Rockville Centre, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at Highland Hospital.
Memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth El, 744 Main St., Geneva, 14456.
Mr. Silver was born July 5, 1929 in Brooklyn, and lived and raised his family in Rockville Centre, Nassau County, until retiring to Canandaigua four years ago. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute and owned a successful building and contracting business on Long Island. He was also an artist and produced many fine paintings and sketches, which grace the walls of his wife and daughters' homes. Mr. Silver was a man of honesty and integrity and possessed a quick wit and great sense of humor. He was involved in community activities including B'nai Brith, the Rockville Centre Auxiliary Police Department and volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dena; his three daughters, Karen Silver of Revere, Mass., Leslie (Dwayne) Breger of Amherst, Mass., and Hope (Stephen) Galens of Clifton Springs; and five grandchildren, Alex, Ben, Max, Eva and Perry.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Kathryn C. Walters

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Mrs. Kathryn C. Walters, 80, formerly of Clifton Springs, a resident at Newark-Manor Nursing Home, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
There were no prior calling hours. Friends were invited to attend a memorial service Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps with the Rev. Jerry Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery in Clifton Springs.
It is suggested that contributions may be made in Mrs. Walters' memory, to the Newark Manor Nursing Home Activities Fund, 222 W. Pearl St., Newark, 14513.
Mrs. Walters was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Lyons, the daughter of the late Francis and Mabel Schraffenberger Chambers. She enjoyed her plants and flowers and she was an avid knitter. Her family and grandchildren were very important and held a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert R. Walters of Rochester; three daughters, Mary Kay (Terry) Wilson of Clifton Springs, Elizabeth Walters and fiancee Mark Arnold of Clifton Springs and Barbara (Timothy) DePaull of Penfield; grandchildren, Jamie, Jeremy and Thomas Wilson, Rebecca Walters and Annalise and Karalyn DePaull; great-granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Anne.

R.Thomas Warrick

OVID - R. Thomas Warrick, 65, of 6677 County Rd. 129, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at his home.
Calling hours were Monday, Nov. 3 at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. William Winters, OFMCap as the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Holy Cross Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 374, Ovid, 14521.
Tom was born July 29, 1938, in Vestal, the son of the late Marvin and Frances Krolak Warrick. He graduated from Ovid High School and attended Alfred Tech. He had a long career in the farm and construction equipment industry, his early affiliation was with F&W; Equipment in Geneva.
At the time of his death, Tom was a field product specialist for Volvo Construction Equipment. He was also a communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of the Ovid-Willard Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ellie; his children, Constance (Butch) Olsen of Bloomfield, Michael (Susan Cummings) Warrick of Phelps, Robert (Gail) Warrick of Clifton Springs, Pamela (Robert) Switzer of Clifton Springs and Susan (Richard Dabrowski) Warrick of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Nicole, Leigh and Ashley Warrick; a sister, Barbara (Roger) Getman of Ovid; an aunt, Theresa Gerick of Boca Raton, Fla.; and an uncle, Raymond Warrick of Vestal.

MaryAnn Barse

CLIFTON SPRINGS - MaryAnn Barse, 59, of 185 Spring Run, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at her home surrounded by her family.
Friends called Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main St, in Phelps. Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 14 at the Canandaigua First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judson officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven cemetery in Phelps.
It is suggested that contributions be made to the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, 14432.
Mrs. Barse was born April 14, 1944, in Ogdensburg, the daughter of James W. Sr. and Flossie Bennett Preston. She was a member of the Canandaigua Moose Lodge and volunteered at Sonnenberg Gardens.
She is survived by her loving husband, Romaine Barse; children, John (Shelly) Erti of Palmyra and Michelle (Brian) Alvaro of Canandaigua; four grandchildren; father, James W. Preston St.; brother, Gerald (Pearl) Preston of Clifton Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, James Preston Jr.; and her mother, Flossie Bennett.
