Charles E. Davenport

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Charles E. Davenport, 70, of 1150 County Road 7, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
There were no prior calling hours. Friends were invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps, with the Rev. Albert Kamm officiating.
It is suggested that contributions be made to the Finger Lakes Community Cancer Center, 6 Coulter Rd., Clifton Springs, 14432.
Mr. Davenport was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Elmira, the son of Charles and Hazel Davenport. He retired from the Local Union 435 in Rochester. His favorite pastime was fishing. He loved to fish.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Lil McKee, of Clifton Springs; three sons, Raymond (Suzanne) Davenport of Clifton Springs; David (Jenny Allgood) Davenport of Phelps and Glenn Davenport of Clifton Springs; grandchildren, Tanya, Elizabeth, Veronica, David Jr. and Grace Joan; one great-granddaughter, Trinity Joan Rorrick; sister, Ann Stead of Nichols; aunt, Irene Davenport of Scottsville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Davenport, who died in 1995.

James F. Kuhn

CLIFTON SPRINGS - James F. Kuhn, 90, a lifetime resident of Clifton Springs, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital after a long illness.
In keeping with his wishes, there were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday, Nov. 12 at St. Felix Church. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery.
Donations may be made in James' memory to St. Felix Church, 12 Hibbard Ave., Clifton Springs or the Clifton Springs Historical Society, P.O. Box 112, Clifton Springs.
Jim was born April 11, 1913, the son of the late George and Anna Kuhn. He was a graduate of Clifton Springs High School. Throughout the years, Jim had worked for the local Post Office delivery mail bags by luggage carts from the New York Central Railroad Station, now the library. Later he owned and operated the Texaco Gas and Service Station on West Main Street for many years. Jim also retired from G.W. Lisk in Clifton Springs.
Jim was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Clifton Springs Historical Society, the Big M Game Club, Newark Motorcycle Club and the local High School Alumni Association. Jim traveled extensively with his family as a boy, and later with friends on motorcycle trips. He often participated in the local parades, driving his 1913 Stanley Steamer automobile.
He is survived by a cousin, friends, and special friends, Marion and Althea Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mildred; and sister, Beatrice.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.

Mary Frances Clark

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Mary Frances Clark, 95, of 2794 Townline Rd., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic Extended Care Unit.
There were no prior calling hours. Friends were invited to attend a graveside service on Monday, Nov. 17 in Grove cemetery in Trumansburg.
Contributions may be made to the Finger Lakes Community Cancer Center, 6 Coulter Rd., Clifton Springs, 14432.
Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 14, 1908, in Hornell, the daughter of Louis and Carrie Topping McGill. She was a registered nurse and had retired from Clifton Springs; Hospital. She had also worked as a private duty nurse.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Barbara Mitchell of Rochester; a very special friend, Marge Mouton of Clifton Springs; three nieces; and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Clark, who died in 1982.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Cheney Funeral Home, Phelps.

Vera Mae Fudge

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Vera Mae Fudge, 92, of Ashton Court, formerly of Elmira, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 at her residence.
Friends were invited to call Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Smith-Fudge-Marshall Funeral Home in Elmira.
Remembrances may be directed to the First Baptist Church, 121 W. Church St., Elmira, 14901.
Vera was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Phelps, the daughter if Erma and George Norton. Vera lived most of her life in Elmira, having moved to Clifton Springs a year and a half ago. She was a devoted homemaker who dearly loved her family, friends and neighbors, and was loved in turn by all. Vera was an active member of the First Baptist Church for 67 years, and a member of the Eastern Star Loyal 265. A charter member of Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, she was also a member of the Chemung Valley Audubon Bird Club, New York State Federation of Women's Clubs (Sorosis of Elmira), New York State Federation of Bird Clubs, the National Wild Life Association, National Audubon Society and Chemung Valley Historical Society. Vera delivered Meals on Wheels for 21 years and volunteered with RSVP.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (James) Courtright of Seneca Falls; stepson, Ralph Truman (Suzanne) Fudge of Belfast, Maine; stepdaughter, Sally (David) Grayson of Cherry Hill, N.J.; grandchildren, Timothy Courtright of North Syracuse, Deborah Courtright-Doane of Seneca Falls/Baldwinsville, Pamela Merlone of Seneca Falls; Mary Virginia Drinkwater of Northport, Maine; Susan Elizabeth Fudge of Portland, Maine, Elaine Plumlee of New Jersey, and Joyce Grayson of Cherry Hill, N.J.; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was predeceased by her fist husband of 41 years, Albert W. Fudge III in 1977; and her second husband of 23 years, Ralph E. Fudge in 2000.

Bruce C. Gray

MANCHESTER - Bruce C. Gray, 71, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 at Hospeace House in Naples.
Friends called Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home in Victor. Bruce's funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Nov. 20 at St. Dominic's Church in Shortsville. Interment will be in Lakeview cemetery in Pultneyville.
Gifts in his memory may be directed to Hospeace House, PO Box 343, Naples, 14512, or St. Dominic Church, 6 Canandaigua St., Shortsville, 14548.
Bruce was a long-time district manager for the Gannett Rochester Newspapers, served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Palmyra Fire Department for 17 years.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Paliotti Gray; a daughter, Terri Anderson and friend, Curt of Macedon; a son, Donald Gray and fiance' Barbara of Palmyra; grandsons, Tyler and Bradley; brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Mabel Gray; mother-in-law, Lena Paliotti; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Laurie and Richard Sulanowski, Sandra and Paul Cassetta and Linda and Ron Courtney; and several nieces and nephews.

Sara Mackerchar

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Mrs. Sara Mackerchar, 81, of 975 University Ave., Rochester, formerly of Clifton Springs, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003 at Rochester General Hospital.
There were no prior calling hours. Friends were invited to attend a memorial service Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery in Clifton Springs.
Contributions may be made to Gideons International, 2900 Lebanon Rd., Nashville, TN 37214.
Mrs. Mackerchar was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Buffalo, and was devoted to caring for her daughter, Star. She was on the SCDD Community Advisory Board for more than 40 years, fighting on behalf of the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled.
Mrs. Mackerchar spoke before the finance committee in Albany advocating for the disabled. Many advances were made due to her efforts for disabled individuals.
She is survived by her children, Star Mackerchar, Sandra (James) McDonald of Rochester, Howard (Mary) Peiffer of Florida, Daniel A. Mackerchar Jr. of Pennsylvania, Richard Thomas Mackerchar of California; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James W. Preston

CLIFTON SPRINGS - James W. Preston, 91, of 185 Spring Run died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends called Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 20 at the funeral home with the Rev. Albert Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery.
It is suggested that contributions be made to the Finger Lakes Community Cancer Center, 6 Coulter Rd., Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
Mr. Preston was born April 12, 1912, in Jaenner, Pa., the son of William and MaryAnn Higgins Preston. He retired from Phelps Cement after 25 years of service.
Her is survived by his son, Gerald (Pearl) Preston of Clifton Springs; son-in-law, Romaine Barse of Clifton Springs; sister, Lena Vrooman of Las Vegas, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Flossie, who died in 1989; a son, James Preston, who died in 1991; and his daughter, MaryAnn Barse, with whom he lived, on Nov. 10, 2003.

Charles E. Burr

TRUMANSBURG - Charles E. Burr, 83, of 5939 Burr Road, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at Cayuga Medical Center.
In keeping with Charles' wishes, there were no calling hours. A memorial service will be scheduled and announced at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Searsburg Community Church, c/o Mrs. Edith Foster, 6024 Brook Road, Trumansburg, 14886; Trumansburg Fire Department or the Trumansburg Ambulance Fund, at P.O. Box 418, Trumansburg, 14886; or Lakeside Nursing Home Residents Fund, 1229 Trumansburg Road, Ithaca, 14580.
Charles was born May 17, 1920 in the hamlet of Searsburg, the only child of Charles William and Jane Cole Burr. He was born in the farmhouse built by his great-grandfather.
After graduating from Trumansburg Central School in 1938, he completed a two-year special agricultural course at Cornell University.
Charles married Pauline E. Thompson, daughter of Herbert and Lillian Thompson of Interlaken, in 1943. Together, they raised their three children and built the farm operation. Dairy farming was a labor of love for Charles. The tireless commitment to the development of his farm and his expertise in breeding purebred cattle earned Charles and Burr Ayr Farms a great deal of respect over the years. His presence will be sorely missed.
Charles was a life member of the Searsburg Community Church and had served as deacon. He was also a 65-year member of the Searsburg Grange and past master. He was a member of the Schuyler Pomona Grange and the state and national Granges.
He was proud of his membership in the National Ayrshire Breeders Association, and was past president of the New York State Ayrshire Association and the Finger Lakes Ayrshire Club. He served 38 years as a dedicated councilman for the town of Hector, was a Republican Committee Member for Hector District 2 and DHIA state director for eight years.
He received the Schuyler County Cornell Cooperative Extension Award, served as 4-H leader and served on the Extension Board. He was also a member of the Dairy Shrine Club, a past director of Hector Grazing, and dairy cattle superintendent of the Trumansburg Fair. He was an Ayrshire delegate to the Pure Bred Dairy Cattle Association for a number of years.
In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Pauline, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth C. (Kathleen) Burr of Trumansburg, and David T. Burr of Beaver, Pa.; one daughter, Christine B. (Gregory) Nunn of Clifton Springs; and five grandchildren; Kenton C. Burr of Trumansburg, Kimberly A. Burr of Chicago, Ill.; Justi (Jordan) Thomas of Rockville, Md.; Brenna L. Burr of Boston, Mass.; and Andrea M. Nunn of Providence, R.I.

Sharon Lee Carr Petitti

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Sharon Lee Carr Petitti, 53, of County Road 7, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at the Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic.
Friends and family attended calling hours Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home in Lyons. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Lyons at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Ontario County, 2976 County Road 48, Canandaigua, 14424.
Sharon was born Nov. 10, 1950, in Canandaigua, a daughter to Charles and Mildred Johnson Carr. She was a graduate of Marcus Whitman Central School and was employed by the EconoLodge in Canandaigua.
She is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Mark; a stepdaughter, Melissa; her mother, Mildred Carr of Stanley; three sisters, Ramonda Carr of Stanley, Loretta (Grady) Griffin of North Carolina and Arlene (Claude) Austin of Chittenango; one brother, Steve Carr of Stanley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sam and Monica Petitti of Victor; sister-in-law, Vicki Hatranft of Webster; and aunt and uncle, Jim and Pat Marsa of Lyons.

Jeffrey Todd Shoots

GENEVA - Jeffrey Todd Shoots, 38, of 3202 Woodworth Road, went to be with his Lord Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at his home, with his family at his side.
Friends called Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Heritage Baptist Church in Palmyra. Funeral services followed at the church, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial was Friday, Dec. 5 in Oaklawn cemetery in Oaks Corners.
It is suggested that contributions be made to Genesee Region Home Care, 513 W. Union St., Newark, 14513.
Jeffrey was born Dec. 27, 1964, in Rochester, the son of James D. Shoots Sr. and Bonnie L. Veeder Thomas. He graduated in 1984 from Lyons High School and attended Heritage Baptist Church in Palmyra. Jeffrey was employed at Refractron in Newark. He had a great love for all sports, especially NASCAR and Syracuse University basketball and football.
Jeffrey was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 11 years, Monica Mitchell Shoots; their two daughters, Solvia and Hannah; his mother, Bonnie L. Thomas of McDougall; his father, James D. Sr. (Patricia Greenwood) Shoots of Auburn; maternal grandmother, Hattie M. Shoots; maternal grandfather, Clarence Veeder; brothers and sister, James D. Shoots Jr. of Newark, Laurie (Michael) Tota of New Jersey, Scott Shoots of Auburn and John (Rebecca) Shoots of Romulus; mother-in-law, Linda L. Mitchell of Geneva; sisters-in-law, Star Lacy of Geneva, Tina (Mike) Heusler of Waterloo, Suzanne (Larry) Eaves of Clifton Springs and Tammy (Bill) Allen of Clyde; brother-in-law, John Mitchell Jr. of Elmira; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends, especially Roberta and Richard Preston and Tom Hollister.
He was predeceased by his son, Sullivan, who died in February 1993; and his father-in-law, John L. Mitchell.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps.
