Monica L. Danhauser

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Monica Danhauser, 76, of Montana Lane, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
In keeping with her wishes, there were no prior calling hours. A memorial Mass to celebrate her life was Tuesday, March 16 a St. Felix Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Huron Evergreen cemetery in Wolcott.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clifton Springs Hospital, to the House of John, or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Monica was born May 31, 1927, in Wolcott, the daughter of Horace and Margaret Vezzose. She was a graduate of Genesee Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1948, and worked for three years in Rochester General Hospital's operating room.
Monica began working at Clifton Springs Hospital's operating room in 1961 and three years later became the operating room supervisor, where she remained for 27 years. She had worked for the last 18 months as special projects coordinator at Clifton Springs Hospital. She had also worked as a consultant for hospitals in Chicago, Montana and North Carolina.
Monica returned to Clifton Springs Hospital in 2000, where she had worked as an analyst. She also enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and cooking.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Ben; a son, Ted (Donna) Danhauser of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren, Gina, Lauren and Kathryn; and a sister, Mary Y. Green of Wolcott.
She was predeceased by her brothers, James and Sam; and sister, Jo.

M. Winifred Brown

PHELPS - Mrs. M. Winifred Brown, 78, of Phelps, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Geneva Living Center North.
There were no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8 at the Scipioville Presbyterian Church, Route 34A in Scipioville. Burial will be in Ridgeway cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's research.
Mrs. Brown was born in Auburn, the daughter of Fred and Margaret Myers Wyant, and had been a resident of Phelps for many years. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing at Syracuse University and a master's degree from State University College at Cortland. She was a registered school nurse for the Midlakes school system for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Brown of Victor; two sons, Michael (Marian) Brown of Moravia and Paul J. (Catherine) Brown of Victor; five grandchildren, Jessie, Leslie, Jennifer, Kristian and Emily; four sisters, Ruth West of Old Forge, Jane Walker of Lancaster, Pa., Martha Risley of Interlaken and Mary Meixell of Mecklenburg, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Brown.
Arrangements were entrusted to the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home.

Leland J. "Scrub" Kinnetz, Jr.

FAYETTE/PHELPS - Leland J. "Scrub" Kinnetz, Jr., 63, of 322 New-Miller Road in Phelps, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 26, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Friends called Tuesday, March 30 at the Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home in Seneca Falls. A funeral service was Wednesday, March 31 at the funeral home with the Rev. Ellen Donnan Carroll of the Junius Presbyterian Church officiating. Spring Interment will be in the Fayette Rural cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Fayette Volunteer Fire Department Inc., P.O. Box 41, Fayette, 13065; or the Junius Volunteer Fire Department, Route 318, Waterloo, 13165.
Leland was born April 17, 1940, in Seneca Falls, the son of Leland J. and Harriet A. Luke Kinnetz Sr. He was a retired truck driver for Seneca Foods in Marion and also drove truck for B.E. Wright Distributors and John Kenyon Trucking in Geneva. He managed Sesser's Car Wash from 1974 to 1984. He was a life member of the Fayette Volunteer Fire Department, joining on his 18th birthday, which gave him 46 years of dedicated service. Leland was also a life member of the Seneca County Chiefs Association and a member of the Northern Central Delegates. He was also a member of the Finger Lakes Order of the Moose Lodge 823 in Geneva.
He is survived by his fiance', Linda Witt of Phelps, her children, Fred Witt and Laura Burgdorf and grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Leland J. in 1972; his mother, Harriet Luke in 1995; and a sister, Edith Scott.

Winifred Giles Vittum

ROCHESTER - Winifred Giles Vittum passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004.
There were no calling hours. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 25 at the United Church of Phelps, Main Street in Phelps.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of the United Church of Phelps, to the Camp Whitman Endowment Fund (c/o The Presbytery of Geneva, P.O. Box 278, Dresden 14441), to Habitat for Humanity, or to the charity of one's choice.
Winifred Leslie Giles was born April 28, 1920, in Cummington, Mass., daughter of Arthur Leese Giles and Ruth Stevens Giles. On Sept. 2, 1941 she married Morrill T. Vittum, and moved to West Lafayette, Ind., where he completed his doctorate at Purdue University. From 1944 to 1945, while Dr. Vittum was in the Navy, she lived with her family in Cummington, Mass. In 1945, the Vittums moved to upstate New York. In the following 59 years, the family lived in Geneva, Phelps and Clifton Springs.
She was a natural and self-taught musician. After 47 years of teaching herself music, she studied organ at the Eastman School of Music in 1967 and 1968. For many years she was an accompanist for instrumental soloists in Phelps Central School and Midlakes High School all-county and all-state competitions.
Wini, or Win, as she was known to her friends, was active in the choir at North Presbyterian Church in Geneva, then for over 30 years was organist and choir director at the Presbyterian Church (later the United Church) of Phelps. She was an elder in the Phelps church, a member of the board of directors at Clifton Springs Hospital, a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, a member of PEO, and contributed more than 1, 000 hours of volunteer service in the "Pink Lady" program at Clifton Springs Hospital. She and her husband were the charter members at Ashton Place Retirement Home in Clifton Springs, where she was well known and well loved.
She leaves behind her husband, Morrill T. Vittum of Clifton Springs; two sons, David A. (Jean) of Phelps and Allan (Andrea) of Penfield; a daughter, Patricia J. Vittum of Sunderland, Mass.; four grandchildren, Scott (Mary), Sean (Kathy), Megan and Erin; and an incredibly large circle of friends around the world.
She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Giles of Northfield, Mass.

Charles F. Vollertsen

NEWARK - Charles F. Vollertsen, 75, of Vienna Estates, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Friends called Tuesday, March 30 at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home in Newark. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 31 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Burial will be in Fairville cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, 14620.
Charles was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Newark, the son of Roy and Flossie Haynes Vollertsen. He was a carpenter for O'Brien Homes of Rochester.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Darlene Brown Vollertsen; two sons, Timothy (Ann) of Palmyra and Todd (Cindy) of South Carolina; two daughters, Sharon (Time) VanGorder of Manchester and Bonnie (Craig Enos) Peters of California; three stepsons; three sisters, Shirley Houck of Palmyra, Barbara Howes of Newark and Pat Kalver of Lyons; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Ferdinand "Fred" Angeline

MANCHESTER - Ferdinand "Fred" Angeline, 78, died Friday, April 2, 2004 after a long illness at the DeMay Living Center in Newark.
Friends called Sunday, April 4 at the Halstead-Patrick Funeral Home in Manchester. A funeral Mass was Monday, April 5 at St. Dominic Church in Shortsville.
Donations may be made to the DeMay Living Center Activity Fund, c/o Shelley Evans, 100 Sunset Blvd., Newark, 14513.
Fred was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Manchester, the son of Frank and Caroline Angeline. He was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1944, and served in the Army during World War II. Upon his return to Manchester after the war, he worked as a welder for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, retiring in 1988.
Fred was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing. In his youth, Fred won several trophies for bowling and archery. He was also a coach for Little League baseball. His favorite spectator sport was watching his daughter and sons' sports activities in school.
Fred was a member of the Shortsville Rod & Gun Club, the Turner-Schrader American Legion Post 34, the Maintenance Way of the Lehigh Valley Railroad and St. Dominic Church, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus of Canandaigua.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Doreen; two sons, Thomas (Marianne) Angeline of Penfield and Timothy (Maggie) Angeline of Macedon; daughter, Mary Beth (Michael) Hanrahan of Penfield; five sisters, Mary, Florence and Pauline Angeline, all of Manchester, Louise Gee of Dallas, Texas and Lucy (Stewart) Gwilt of Shortsville; six grandchildren, Phillip, Dominic, Lauren and Nicholas Angeline and Shane and Connor Hanrahan; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Caroline; and his brother, Pat.

Helen Kenfield Mark

PHELPS - Helen Kenfield Mark, 80, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic Extended Care Unit.
There were no prior calling hours. Friends attended a memorial service on Wednesday, April 7 at the United Church of Phelps. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Phelps or to the Phelps Historical Society, 66 Main St., Phelps, 14532.
Helen was born March 28, 1924, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of Dr. Clifford J. and June Dare Kenfield. She attended Phelps High School and was in the first National Honor Society, graduating in 1942. In 1947, she graduated from the University of Rochester, School of Nursing as a registered professional nurse and with a bachelor of science degree. On July 12, 1947, she and Wallace B. Mark were married in the Presbyterian Church of Phelps.
Helen practiced many years at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic and retired in 1985 after several years as supervisor, director of in-service and as quality assurance coordinator. She had also worked at Syracuse Memorial Hospital, at the Canandaigua Veterans Administration Hospital and in Dr. Kenfield's office.
Helen was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church and of the United Church of Phelps, where she had been on the council, was active in the Women's Association and sang in the choir for many years. She also belonged to the Tuesday Club and the Phelps Historical Society, holding several offices and volunteering many hours. She also volunteered for the Office of the Aging and delivered Meals on Wheels for 13 years.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wallace; three sons, David (Joan) of Lyons, Dana of Portland, Ore.; and Daryl (Rita) of Shortsville; four grandsons, Allan (Susie) of Mount Holly, N.C.; Brian of Boston, Jason and Aaron, both of Canandaigua; two step-grandchildren, Beth and Mark Kranzler of Shortsville; a sister, Marjory (Walter) Jennings of South Glens Falls; cousins, Alice (Nathan) Winslow of Baltimore, William (Lorraine) Crosby of Laurel Springs, N.C.; Dr. Roswell (Ruth) Miller of Chassell, Mich.; and Jean Coleman of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Thornton D. Strecker

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Thornton D. Strecker, 88, of 338 Fall Brook Circle, formerly of Oradell, N.J., died Monday, April 5, 2004 at the home of his daughter, Barbara E. Rathbun in Clifton Springs.
Friends called Thursday, April 8 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Friday, April 9 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Albert Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery.
It is suggested the contributions be made to any organization that feeds, clothes or helps people in the name of Jesus Christ.
Mr. Strecker was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Troy, the son of Ralph and Ethel Thornton Strecker. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater and during the Battle of Bastogne, and received the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
Mr. Strecker earned the Eagle Scout award in Teaneck, N.J. He was a deacon in Grace Church in Ridgewood, N.J., and retired from Morgan Guaranty as an officer in the tax department. Mr. Strecker was a devoted husband to his wife, Margaret, who died April 12, 2001.
He is survived by his son, Thornton D. Strecker Jr. of Albany; his daughter, Barbara E. Rathbun of Clifton Springs; grandchildren, Bethany Joy Bruns of Detroit, Mich.; Scott Allen Rathbun of Colchester, Vt.; a brother, Allen Strecker of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Leland E. Strecker.

Gerald "Jack" M. Weyneth

NEWARK - Gerald "Jack" Myers Weyneth, 85, of Filkins Road, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center.
Family and friends called Tuesday, April 6 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home Inc., in Newark. A funeral service was Wednesday, April 7 at the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Burial will be in Whitney cemetery in Seneca Castle.
In memory of Mr. Weyneth, please direct contributions to the Shriners Crippled Children Hospital Fund, c/o Damascus Temple, 979 Bay Road, Webster, 14580.
Mr. Weyneth was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Clifton Springs, the son of Leigh and Ina Myers Weyneth. He graduated from Clifton Springs High School and had worked in sales for Wilco Corp. in Niles, Ind.
Mr. Weyneth was a member of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, the Sincerity Lodge 200 F&AM; in Phelps since 1947, Grand Director of Ceremonies for the OSY District in 1990, Corning Consistory, joining in 1954, and Damascus Temple - AAONMS of Rochester, since 1963. There he served as director of the Director's Staff for five years. He was also a member of the Shrine Clubs in Geneva, Canandaigua, Penn Yan and Wayne County. Mr. Weyneth was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Rochester Court 3, and the Royal Arch Masons in Geneva.
The funeral home flew the Amy flag in honor of his service during World War II. He served from May of 1944 to December of 1945, receiving the Purple Heart, the Victory Medal, the American Operations of Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a life member of the Seely B. Parrish American Legion Post in Phelps.
He will be missed by his loving and devoted wife, Thelma Weyneth; a son, Dennis (Valerye) Johnson of Brockport; three daughters, Linda Lincoln of Penfield, Carol Schrader of Batavia and Debbie Cali of Macedon; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Gertrude) Weyneth of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
