Hazel Jane Carpenter
LYONS - Hazel Jane Carpenter, 79, of Newfield, N.J. died Saturday, April 10, 2004 at home.
Friends and family attended calling hours on Wednesday, April 14 at the Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home in Lyons, where a funeral service was on Thursday, April 15 with the Rev. Edward Dillon officiating. Burial will be in the South Lyons cemetery.

Hazel was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Newark, a daughter to Ralph and Stella Pecor Wallace.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth of New Jersey; daughter, Claudia Weeks of Phelps; four grandchildren, Susan, Amanda, Christopher and Sue; four great-grandchildren, Brian, Kayloni, Krystal and Cole; sister, Ruth Matthys of Lyons; brother, Stanton Wallace; three nephews; and several cousins.
Carrie A. Craig
DUNDEE - Carrie A. Craig, 92, formerly of Dundee, died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at Duke University Hospital in Raleigh, N.C.
The family received friends on Thursday, April 15 at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home in Watkins Glen. Funeral services followed at the funeral home, with the Rev. J. Keith Kissel officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Reading Center.
Carrie was born Dec. 13, 1911, in Jonestown, Pa., the daughter of Edward and Lucy Robbins. She married
her husband, William E. Craig, in 1931; they were married
for 56 years before his death.
During World War II, she worked in the defense plants in Geneva and in Elmira Heights. Later, she and her husband became foster parents to numerous children who lived with them in Dundee, where they lived almost 40 years. She later moved to Smithfield, N.C., in 1989.
She is survived by her daughter, LeEtta (Everett) Henecke Jr. of Phelps; a son, Tommie (Linda) Craig of Smithfield, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Doris Craig of Reading Center; a very dear friend, Marian Hill of Dundee; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1988; four brothers, a sister, and a son, Johnnie Lee Craig, in 2001.
Sarah E. Eddinger
PHELPS - Sarah E. Eddinger, 94, of 1184 Mott Road, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends called Thursday, April 15 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Friday, April 16 at the funeral home with the Rev. Albert Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Mrs. Eddinger was born April 13, 1910, in New Columbia, Pa. She worked for Canandaigua Lisk Manufacturing Co. in Canandaigua.
She is survived by her son, Richard Eddinger of Phelps; a daughter, Jean Wilsea of Canandaigua; grandchildren, Mary Ann (Ronald) Boneo of Victor, Susan Wesneski and Cindy (Paul) Baltoskonis, both of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a grandson, Daniel (Peggy) Eddinger of Canandaigua; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Eddinger; a son, Charles Eddinger; and a grandson, David Eddinger.
Margaret V. Potter
ROCHESTER - Margaret V. Potter, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004.
Friends called at the Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home on Long Pond Road. A funeral Mass was Friday, April 16 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Greece. Interment will be in Falls cemetery.

She is survived by her children, Peggy (Harold) Finewood of Phelps, J. Douglas (Mary) Potter of West Seneca, Joanne (John) Doebrich, Richard (Patricia) Potter and Elaine (Ralph) Ferge; 11 grandchildren, Mark (Pornthip) Finewood, Kevin (Shannon) Finewood, Ellen (James) Bardeen, Louis, Gregory, Nicholas and Andrew Potter, Nina (James) Neu, Nora Doebrich, Matthew Potter and Cynthia (Corey) Jones; six great-grandchildren, Alec Finewood, Selina Finewood, Christiana and Erich Jones, and Mark and Julia Neu; sister-in-law, Better Potter; aunt, Hazel Melvin; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John; and grandson, Stephen Potter.
Elmer O. Schendel
WATERLOO/PHELPS - Elmer O. Schendel, 80, of Odell Road, a resident of the Huntington Living Center, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2004.
Friends and family called Saturday, April 17 at the Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home in Lyons. A graveside service was Monday, April 19 in the South Lyons cemetery with military honors.

Elmer was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Palmyra, the son of Edward and Isabel Mallory Schendel. He was a veteran of the Army during World War II and was a self-employed farmer throughout his life.
He is survived by eight children, Andrea (Mark) Nelson of Waterloo, Rodney (Kathy) Tiller of Waterloo, David Edward Schendel of Phelps, Betty Jane (Danny) VanTassel of Chemung, Susan (Bob) VanDamme of Clifton Springs, Dorothy "Dottie" Mahoney of Waterloo, Lorraine "Rainy" (Bob) Meyer of Waterloo, and Elmer (Diane St. Louis) Schendel of Waterloo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister, Frances Young of Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice R. Young Schendel in 2002.
Milton T. Seymour
PHELPS - Milton T. Seymour, 79, of Clearview Drive, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at home with his family by his side.
A memorial service was Sunday, April 18 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark with the Rev. Alton Smith officiating.

Mr. Seymour was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Batavia, the son of Milton H. and Annie Terry Seymour. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. Milton retired after 31 years as a state employee. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at the Newark Developmental Center. He was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge in Buffalo, the Geneva American Legion and a life member of the Newark Elks Club.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene; son, Gary (Joan) Seymour of Newark; and three grandchildren, Jessica (Howard), Logan and Cameron.
Gerald F. Heffron
GENEVA - Gerald F. Heffron, 85, of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at the Geneva Living Center South.
Friends called Thursday, April 22, at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home. Members of Winnek American Legion Post 396 met at the funeral home.
Funeral services were Friday, April 23 at the funeral home and at 1:30 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will be in St. Columbkille cemetery in Seneca Falls at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Diabetes Foundation or to the Finger Lakes Heart Fund.
Gerald was born in Clifton Springs and was a life resident of this area. He was the son of Linus and Margaret Mahan Heffron. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army and was retired from Seneca Army Depot. He was a member of Winnek American Legion Post 396 and St. Francis de Sales Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Hatch of Phelps; two sons, Jeffrey Heffron of Marion; four grandchildren, Justin Heffron of Waterloo, Carrie Ann Pehrson of Waterloo, Christopher Pehrson of Waterloo, and Caroleann Hatch of Seneca Falls; one great-grandchild, Hunter Prentlee; two sisters, Katherine Bunce of Clifton Springs and Betty Burgess of Newark; two brothers, James Heffron of Clifton Springs and Linus Heffron of Geneva; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Heffron; and his daughter, Debbie Pehrson.
Howard E. Weyneth
GENEVA - Howard E. Weyneth, 87, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla.
Friends called Thursday, April 22 at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home in Geneva. A Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, April 23 at St. Stephen's Church. Burial followed in Whitney cemetery in Seneca Castle.

Howard was born in Phelps, the son of Leigh N. and Ina R. Myers Weyneth and was a life resident of this area. Howard grew up on a farm in Seneca Castle and graduated from Geneva High School. He spent over 40 years as a sales agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Later in retirement he lived in Stanley and Bradenton, Fla. He renovated and restored rental properties with is brother, Gerald "Jack" Weyneth.
Howard served in the Air Force during World War II, where he received the Victory medal and the Good Conduct medal. He was a former member of the Winnek American Legion Post 396 in Geneva and the Seneca Yacht Club. He was an avid hunter and golfer and enjoyed sailing and family croquet matches. He flew recreationally in the 1940s and 50s and did some aerial photography of local farms.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances; a son, David Leigh Weyneth; a daughter, JoAnne Bonacci; a sister and brother-in-law, Floyd and Jessie Clark; a brother, Gerald Weyneth; brothers-in-law, Edward and Rose Ryan, Robert Ryan and Reed Ottley; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Ottley.
Doris G. Sanford
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Mrs. Doris G. Sanford, 81, loving wife, mother and grandmother, of 3290 Route 488, died Friday, April 16, 2004 at the House of John in Clifton Springs.
Friends called Monday, April 19 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Tuesday, April 20 at the Phelps Baptist Church with the Rev. William Reigle officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Mrs. Sanford was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Newark, the daughter of Earl J. and Anna Swarthout McIntyre. She was a member of the Phelps Baptist Church and past president of the Women's American Bible Association. Mrs. Sanford was also a member of the Hopewell Grange 472 and the Ontario County Board of Elections.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Lysle F. Sanford; sons, David Lysle (Karen) Sanford of Clifton Springs and Bruce E. Sanford of Clifton Springs; grandchildren, Tina Sanford, Eric Sanford, Adam (Melissa McAvoy) Sanford, Justin Sanford, Joshua Sanford, Tyler Sanford and Cody Sanford; three great-grandchildren; Zachary, Chloe and Emma; and a sister, Anna Marie Mollenkopf of Phelps.
She was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.
Jay E. Davis Sr.
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Jay E. Davis Sr., 83, died Monday, April 26, 2004 at his home.
Friends called Thursday, April 29 at the Fuller Funeral Home in Canandaigua, where funeral services followed. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Ontario-Yates Hospital, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, 14456.
Mr. Davis was born Oct. 10, 1920, in the town of Geneva, a son of Byron Eugene and Bertha LeGro Davis. He married
Lillieth Cecilia Furman on Nov. 21, 1942. He owned and operated his own farm on Malone Road in Hopewell for many years and retired in 1984 from Red Jacket Central School after 35 years of service, where he had been director of transportation.
He served with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of the Phelps American Legion Post and was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay E. and Linda Davis Jr. of Chatham, Ill.; and John P. and Sharon Davis of Ausable Chasm; two daughters, Laurel L. and Lillieth C. Green, both of Canandaigua; a brother, A. Homer Davis of Forksville, Pa.; two sisters, Arlene E. Merton of Palmyra and Emily J. Goodman of Clifton Springs; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; dear friend, Carol Kerins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillieth; his brothers, Paul and Lynn Davis; and his sister, Alta L. White.
