Charles Joel Hill

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Charles Joel Hill passed away Friday, April 23, 2004.
Memorial services were Saturday, May 1 at the Zion Episcopal Church in Palmyra.
Memorial contributors may be made to the public libraries of Lyons or Ontario.
Mr. Hill was born Christmas Day 1920, in Rosendale, Wis. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a bachelor's degree in bio-chemistry. Mr. Hill served as naval officer in the Pacific Theater during World War II, including action in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. His career was spent in the food manufacturing business, including management, in domestic firms in California, New Jersey and upstate New York and in international firms in Sweden, Iran, China, Ukraine, Ecuador and Honduras. He was active on the school board and in the Presbyterian church of Lyons and the library boards in Lyons and Ontario. Mr. Hill was a collector of rare, early American mathematics books (donated to the University of California) and of Roman Denarii coins.
He is survived by four children Theodore of Los Osos, Calif., Russell (Joan) of Powell, Ohio, George (Debbie) of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Margaret of Penfield; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Geraldine C. Roll

GENEVA - Geraldine C. Roll, 76, of West High Street, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends called Friday, May 26 at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services were Saturday, May 27 at the funeral home. The Rev. Wade Jarrett officiated. Burial followed in Glenwood cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Methodist Church of Geneva or the American Cancer Society.
Geraldine was born in Geneva, the daughter of the late William and Eva McMullin Harris. She was a graduate of Geneva High School, and worked at Sears for many years. She also worked with the Grenada Co. at Geneva General Hospital, where she set up televisions in the rooms. Geraldine loved gardening and being a grandmother. She never missed a sporting event her grandchildren participated in.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Denny) Lee of Geneva; grandchildren, Tracey (Josh White) Schultz of Ithaca, James Schutz of Canandaigua, Matt Schutz of Geneva, and Chris and Sam Roll of Phelps; step grandchildren, Tracey Ferris of Penfield, and Keri Lee of Canandaigua; great-grandchild, Madison Sheppard of Canandaigua; brother and sisters-in-law, George (Sally) Goodlife of Port Chester, Westchester County, and Nancy (Edward) Thalheimer of Huntington, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Robert Roll, in 2003; and her brother, Robert Harris.

Alvin C. Sadler

LEESVILLE, S.C. - Alvin C. Sadler, 68, formerly of Shortsville, died Thursday, May 18, 2006.
Friends called Wednesday, May 31 at the Sainsbury Funeral Home in Shortsville. A memorial service followed, conducted by James Landon.
Contributions may be made, in his memory, to the Shortsville Fire Dept. or the American Heart Association's Heart Fund.
Alvin served in the Air Force for 20 years and was employed by the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital. He was a member of the Shortsville Fire Department and Manchester Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Margaret; three daughters, Georgina (Donald) Nessinger, Debbie (Dave) Hill and Tammy Sadler; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Gail) Sadler; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Stone

PHELPS/LAKE WALES, Fla. - Mary E. Stone, 100, died Dec. 28, 2005 at the Groves Center.
Graveside services were Saturday, May 27, 2006 in the Oaklawn cemetery in Oaks Corners, with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating.
Mary was born Nov. 9, 1905, in Phelps. She was a Presbyterian by faith, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed puzzles, reading, handwork, Bingo, and was an accomplished Scrabble player.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Hanna of Lake Wales; grandchildren, Mary (Wayne) Garcia and Sarah (Terry) Brown, both of Missouri City, Texas, and Jeffrey (Terri) Veeder of Syracuse; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Cody Brown of Missouri City, and Eric Odlin of Jackson, Wyo.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold G. Stone, in 1976.

Julia Woodhams

NEWARK - Julia Woodhams, 91, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at DeMay Living Center.
Friends called Thursday, May 25 at Schultz-Pusateri Funeral Home in Newark, where services followed. Burial will be in Newark at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the DeMay Living Center in Newark.
Julia was born Dec. 19, 1914, in Newark, daughter of Edwin and Eliza Matthys. She retired from Sarah Coventry in Newark. She had lived at Vienna Gardens in Phelps, Rose Garden Apartments in Newark and DeMay for the last six years.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Donald) Stell of Palmyra; two sisters, Margaret DeMay of Palmyra, and Rose Bouwens of Lyons; one brother, Gerald Matthys of Lyons; two grandchildren, Dawn Stetzel of Phelps and Keith Stell of Palmyra; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

John G. Dunning

CLIFTON SPRINGS - John G. Dunning, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, April 21, 2006 at Clifton Springs Hospital Extended Care.
In keeping with his wishes, there were no calling hours. Friends were invited to attend a gathering to celebrate John's life at noon Tuesday, April 25 at the home of Ray Dunning, 2333 Melvin Hill Road in Phelps. Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Melvin Hill cemetery.
Friends may contribute to the Clifton Springs Hospital Nursing Home Activity Fund, c/o Clifton Springs Hospital, 2 Coulter Road, Clifton Springs 14432, in John's memory.
John was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Sayre Pa., the son of the late John and Pauline Dunning. He served his country with the Army during World War II. John loved music, spending several years teaching music and leading the Marching Band for Clifton Springs Central School. He played in the Parsians Dance Band for many years. John was also a pilot and loved to golf. He was a member of the Newark Baptist Church, the Lions Club of Newark, the Masonic Lodge, and former member of the Clifton Springs Country Club.
John is survived by his loving wife, Doris; son, Ray (Nancy) Dunning of Phelps; daughter, Trina (John) Kardys of Newark; grandchildren, Deanna and Brent Cameron, Angela Kardys and Ian Kardys; and sister, Juanita West.
He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral arrangements were by Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.

Angela M. Mittiga

CLIFTON SPRINGS/NEWARK - Angela A. Mittiga, 98, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
Friends called Sunday, April 30 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Peter Clifford Monday, May 1 at St. Michael Church, Newark. Burial was Tuesday, May 2 in Calvary cemetery, Massena, St. Lawrence County.
Memorials may be made to the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, 14432.
Ms. Mittiga was born Sept. 24, 1907, in Plati, Italy, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Morabito Mittiga Sr. Angela lived most of her life in Massena before moving to the Clifton Springs area several years ago to live with her niece Rosemary Strub. She had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a baker and cook for the Royal Restaurant in Massena.
She is survived by her niece, Rosemary (William) Strub of Clifton Springs; a brother-in-law, Vince Higgins of Canandaigua; sister-in-law, Margaret Mittiga of Massena; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Higgins, Dominic "Mike" Mittiga who died in World War II, Joseph Mittiga Jr., Ross Mittiga, Rose Mittiga, and infant Anthony Mittiga.

Dylan Richard Parsons

NEW ALBANY, Pa. - Dylan Richard Parsons, born March 21, infant son of Danielle Cartwright and Richard Parsons, went home to the Lord Sunday, April 25, 2004 in New Albany, Pa.
A private service was Friday, April 30.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the New Albany Volunteer Fire Department or the Bradford County Humane Society in baby Dylan's memory.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Justin Hunsinger; loving grandparents, Thomas "Joe" Cartwright and Carol Lord of Phelps, Donna and Leland Ayers and Harry and Kathy Vanderpool of Towanda, Pa, ; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends.
He was predeceased by his grandmother, Durinda Cartwright; and grandfather, Donald R. Parsons.

Virginia A. Norsen

PHELPS - Virginia A. Norsen, 84, of 10 Walnut St., died unexpectedly Sunday, April 25, 2004 at her home.
Friends called Wednesday, April 28 at the funeral home with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery.
It is suggested that contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Norsen was born Dec. 26, 1919 in Honeoye Falls, the daughter of Claude and Helen Symonds. She was very active in the Phelps Business and Professional Women, the Phelps American Legion Auxiliary and the Phelps Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, DeWayne (Bernice) Norsen of Little River, S.C.; Beverly Stone of Clifton Springs and Edward (Sue) Norsen of Shortsville; grandchildren, Kathy Lash of Newark, John (Cheryl) Stone of Phelps, Kenneth (Tina) Stone of Shortsville and Robert Norsen of Canandaigua; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, T.Laverne, who died in 1967; and her brothers, Russell and William.

Nancy L. VanHout

CLIFTON SPRINGS - A graveside service for Nancy L. VanHout, who passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 was held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 29 in the Machpelah cemetery in Leroy.

Alice P. Blankenhorn

PHELPS - Alice P. Blankenhorn of Weston, Mass. and formerly of Southern Pines, N.C., passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 27, 2004.
A memorial service for family members was held Tuesday, April 27.
Contributions may be made to the Brownson memorial Presbyterian Church, 330 S. May St., Southern Pines, N.C. 28387.
Alice was born July 19, 1916, in Phelps, the daughter of Charles Sealey and Ina Howell Peck and was one of 14 children. Alice, a graduate of Geneseo State Teachers College, taught at Seneca Number 9 School in Stanley, at Phelps Central School and at Skaneateles Central School for 28 years.
Alice was active and an officer in the Presbyterian Church at Skaneateles and at Southern Pines, N.C.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Walter J. Blankenhorn; children, Gail M. Walcott of Wellesley Hills, Mass., Walter P. Blankenhorn of Jupiter, Fla. and Patricia Jo Blankenhorn of Cambridge, Mass.; grandchildren, Jesse, Marie and Juli Walcott; two brothers; and four sisters.

David R. Johnson

GENEVA - David R. Johnson, 76, of 108 Sprucewood Circle, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends called Friday, May 7 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Saturday, May 8 at the funeral home with the Rev. Albert Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery in Oaks Corners.
It is suggested that contributions be made to Happy Tails, Ontario County Humane Society, 2796 County Road 48, Canandaigua, 14424.
Mr. Johnson was born March 22, 1928 in Rochester, the son of Reuben and Gertrude Baumgartner Johnson. He was an Army veteran serving in Italy after World War II.
Mr. Johnson worked for many years at several car dealerships in the Rochester area as service manager. After his retirement he owned and operated 1-2-3's convenience store in Kashong for 20 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lauretta McComber Johnson; six children, Cindy Kamm of Geneva, Karin Fowler of Thorold, Ontario, Canada; Eric Johnson of Williamson, Jamie (Robin) Johnson of Clifton Springs, Tammy (Dan) Westfall of Geneva and Laurie Johnson of West Walworth; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gary and Norm, both of Rochester; and Bob of Batavia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Don of Rochester; and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Kamm.

Andrew J. "A.J." Mott

MANCHESTER - Andrew J. "A.J." Mott, 24, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at his home in Brighton.
Friends called at Halsted-Patrick Funeral Home, in Manchester. A funeral Mass was held Monday, May 3 at St. Dominic Church in Shortsville.
Donations in Andrew's memory can be made to Andrew J Mott Scholarship, c/o Lori Ryan, Red Jacket High School, Route 21, Shortsville, 14548.
Andrew was born Dec. 31, 1979, in Canandaigua, the son of Edward S. and Jacalyn Vienna Mott. He was a graduate of Red Jacket High School, Class of 1998 and of the FLCC nursing program in 1999. He was working for Nurse Finders of Rochester for the past four years.
A.J. was a caring person, who helped many people. He had a passion for Christmas and other holidays. He was very proud of his home, was a very dedicated nurse and was a hard worker. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his father, Edward S. and stepmother, Gail Mott of Manchester; two brothers, Brian (Dustine) Mott and Craig Mott, all of Manchester; maternal grandmother, Margaret Vienna of Manchester; paternal grandparents, Roy (Neva) Mott of Canandaigua and two nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Jacalyn Vienna Mott in 1999.

Katherine VanCamp

NEWARK - Katherine VanCamp, 88, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at the Ontario County Health Facility in Hopewell.
Friends attended a graveside funeral service on Monday, May 10 at the Resthaven cemetery in Phelps, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating.
Mrs. VanCamp was born March 20, 1916, in the town of Arcadia, the daughter of John and Anna Brennessel.
She is survived by her son, Gary of Rochester; two sisters, Mabel Philips of Florida and Elizabeth Dlugosz of Phelps.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, who died in 1980; and eight siblings.

Muriel L. Darling

SENECA CASTLE - Muriel Lucy Darling, 81, passed away Monday, May 10, 2004 at the Geneva Living Center South.
Friends called Friday, May 14 at the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church. A memorial service followed at the church. Burial will be in Sandhill cemetery.
Friends may contribute to the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church.
Muriel was born May 20, 1922, in Geneva, the daughter of Charles and Sophia Griffin. She was a former member of TOPS in Geneva. She also enjoyed growing flowers and collecting knickknacks.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth; two daughters, Rebecca Darling of Canandaigua and Holly Brown of Crystal Beach; a son, Russell Darling of Geneva; two sisters, Mildred (Bill) Calabrese and Hazel VanCamp; grandchildren, Shelly, Skip, Ray, Tiffany, Chris and Carrie; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.

Robert H. Hobbs

CLIFTON SPRINGS/CANANDAIGUA - Robert Hobbs, 50, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 2, 2004.
In keeping with his wishes there were no prior calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Riverview cemetery.
Robert was born April 27, 1954, in Ithaca, the son of Padraic and Beverly Hobbs, and had lived in the Clifton Springs area most of his life. He served his country in the Marines and enjoyed playing music.
Robert is survived by his wife, Patricia E. Hobbs; two sons, Matthew Hobbs of Brockport, and Adam Hobbs of Clifton Springs; and a sister, Patricia Hobbs-Canne of Clifton Springs.
Agreements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.

Andrew Francis Lootens

PHELPS - Andrew Francis Lootens, 79, of 645 Neider Road, died peacefully Sunday, May 9, 2004 at home, surrounded by his family.
Friends called Wednesday at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Members of Seeley B. Parrish American Legion Post met at 7:15 at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 13 at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Church in Phelps with the Rev. Anthony Calimeri officiating. Burial, with full military honors, was in St. Francis cemetery in Phelps.
It is suggested the contributions be made to the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs 14432.
Mr. Lootens was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Newark, a son of Joseph and Sophia DesCamp Lootens. He attended District 4 School on Hartnagel Road and Newark High School. He entered the Navy in 1943 and served as a third class petty officer on LST 574 in the Pacific Theater until 1946. In 1947, he married Helen Joanna Taney of Phelps.
Mr. Lootens retired from Rochester's Carpenter Union Local 85 in 1986. He was also a member of the Phelps American Legion and of St. Francis Church in Phelps.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Helen Joanna Taney Lootens; four children, Rosemary (William) Barker of Inverness, Fla.; Ann (John) Baker of Bridgewater, Robert (Janice) Lootens of Phelps, and Judith (Thomas Sr.) Ferrell of Lyons; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Pauline Barnes of Clyde; a brother, Edward Lootens of Newark, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, John Lootens of Newark; and his sister, Regina Lootens of Newark.
