Howard "Barney" McDermott

PENN YAN - Howard "Barney" McDermott, 86, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua.
A graveside service was Monday, May 10 in Bath National cemetery.
Barney served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Lou Carragher of Geneva and Joann Burnett of Clifton Springs; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary McDermott, Jean Cheshire and Lean Yells, and one brother-in-law, Ernie Pinneo, all of Penn Yan.

Leslie E. Blue

SENECA FALLS - Leslie E. Blue, 77, of Chapin Street, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the Serenity House in Victor.
Family and friends called Friday, May 21 at the Doran Funeral Home in Seneca Falls. A funeral service followed at the funeral home, with Lena Shipley of St. Mary's Church in Waterloo, officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Canoga cemetery.
Leslie was born Oct. 16, 1926, in the town of Seneca Falls, a son of Edward L. and Ilene Copeland Blue. He was a life resident of the Seneca Falls area and was retired from the former Seneca Knitting Mills of Seneca Falls. He had also worked on several farms in the Seneca Falls area. Leslie loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his sister, Mae Wild of Penn Yan; and two close friends, Patricia Jensen of Phelps and Ellen Clark of Seneca Falls.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian H. Blue, who died June 18, 2003; and one brother, Richard Blue.

Jeanne O. Corry

PHELPS - Jeanne O. Corry, 90, of 144 Main St., Vienna Gardens, died Friday, May 14 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Services will be announced later. Arrangements are by the Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Mary Reals Gilligan

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Mary Reals Gilligan, 93, of 11 E. Main St., Apt. 114, passed away Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Clifton Springs Hospital Nursing Home after a long illness.
In keeping with her wishes, there were no prior calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Agnes cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the House of John, 14 Spring, St., Clifton Springs 14432.
Mary was born Dec. 21, 2910, in Lickingville, Pa., the daughter of Michael and Mary Jane Willings, and had lived in the Clifton Springs area since 1929. She was a graduate of the Clifton Springs School of Nursing, Class of 1932. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic for 40 years, retiring in 1972. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Mary enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting afghans, which she frequently donated to loved ones and charitable organizations. She remained quite active until her recent health problems arose, she was often seen walking in the area of Clifton Springs Hospital.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Reals Trotter of Marcellus and Harry L. (Nancy) Reals of Clifton Springs; six grandchildren, John R. (Lynda) Trotter of Fredericksville, Pa.; Elizabeth T. Eisenstatt of Irwin, Pa.; Ronald (Shari) Reals of Canandaigua, Richard (Ann) Reals of Clifton Springs, Lori Reals of Clifton Springs and Robert (Mary) Reals of Clifton Springs; 13 great-grandchildren; a cousin, Alex Hunter, who is 103 years old and living in Pittsburgh, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry L. Reals Sr., and her second husband, Thomas J. Gilligan; two brothers and one sister.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.

Francis L. Landschoot

GENEVA - Francis L. Landschoot, 83, died Saturday, May 5, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends called Tuesday, May 18 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services followed with the Rev. Ed Archer, pastor, officiating. Interment was Wednesday, May 19 in St. Francis cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Heart Association.
Mr. Landschoot was born July 14, 1920 in Phelps, the son of Frank and Salmon VanHemel Landschoot. He owned and operated Pre-Emption Construction in Geneva and played the organ for the Clifton Springs Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audrey Landschoot of Waterloo; three sons, Richard (Eileen) of Phelps, Dennis (Ruth) of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; and Brian (Cathy) of Oaks Corners; a daughter-in-law, Linda Carmichael of Victor; 12 grandchildren, Kimberly, Lisa, Robert, Sheri, Valerie, Eric, Amy, Tammy, Arielle, Tiffany, Travis and Colby; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry (Irene) of Clyde and Arthur (Diane) of Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sons, Kevin and David.

Marjorie LaShier

PENN YAN - Marjorie LaShier, 87, of 4031 Bath Road, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan.
Funeral services are planned for June and will be announced at that time. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery in Penn Yan.
Memorials may be made to the National Wild Life Foundation.
Marjorie was born June 26, 1916, in Rochester, the daughter of Raymond and Edith Giles Bettys and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of the University of Rochester, Class of 1938, with a degree in English literature. She was also a member of the Garden Club in Penn Yan.
Marjorie was a gentle, caring person whom everyone loved.
She is survived by her sons, Albert F. Jr. of Manchester, Steven E. of Canandaigua and Richard D. (Gloria) of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Cynthia (Henry) McGovern of Plattsburgh; brother, Roger Bettys of Lower Gwynedd, Pa.; her grandchildren, Corey, Richard Jr., Thomas, Patrick and Paul; and several nieces and nephews.

Jeanne O. Corry

PHELPS - Jeanne O. Corry, 90, of 144 Main St., Vienna Gardens, died Friday, May 14, 2004 in the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
There were no calling hours. Friends attended a memorial service on Saturday, May 29 in the chapel of the Presbyterian Church in Geneva. The Rev. Nancy Birdsong, associate pastor of the church, and the Rev. Dr. John Kotun, pastor of the West Fayette Presbyterian Church, officiated. Burial will be in the Kendaia cemetery in Romulus.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Presbyterian Church in Geneva, 24 Park Place, Geneva, 14456; the West Fayette Presbyterian Church, 1051 Route 336, Geneva 14456; or the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road North, Rochester, 14609-5896.
Jeanne was born Dec. 13, 1913, in Rochester, the daughter of Frank B. and Hazel L. Osborn Corry, and was a graduate of Romulus High School. She was also a graduate of Syracuse University with a bachelor's of education degree in French and history; after graduating from Syracuse she studied French at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She taught in public schools, the last being Dryden High School, where she taught for several years.
After her teaching career, she was employed for many years at Syracuse China Co. in Syracuse, until retiring. During her retirement, she made her home in the Adirondacks and later moved to Hendersonville, N.C., where she resided for many years until moving back to New York State to live in the Geneva-Phelps, area to be closer to family. She was also a member of The Presbyterian Church in Geneva.
She is survived by one sister, Phyllis (William) Hudson of Romulus; one sister-in-law, Loretta Corry of Brewerton; nieces and nephews, Kathy Hudson, William Glenn Hudson, Richard Hudson, John (Marsha) Hudson and Stephen (Kathy) Corry; and a special friend, Sara Mae Ogilvie of North Carolina.

Rita M. Cook

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Rita M. Cook, 63, of 6 Dayton Ave. passed away peacefully Sunday, May 23, 2004 at home.
Friends called Wednesday, May 26 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Friday, May 28 at St. Felix Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in Orleans cemetery.
Friends may contribute to the Clifton Springs Library in Rita's memory.
Rita was born May 27, 1940, in Penn Yan, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Shriver, and had lived in the Clifton Springs area most of her life. Rita was a volunteer and was later employed at the Clifton Springs Library for more than 20 years. She loved quilting, knitting and crocheting. She as a Brownie Girl Scout leader for 10 years in the 1970s.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, James; two daughters, Lauri (Jeffrey) Parkhurst of Himrod and Elizabeth (Aaron) Witt of Shortsville; a son, James E. Cook of Clifton Springs; grandchildren, Jennifer and Brenda Parkhurst; brothers, Ely (Patricia) Shriver of Oklahoma, and Gerard (Linda) Shriver and Eric (Carol) Shriver, both of Penn Yan; a sister, Anne Shriver of Dundee; two aunts, Rita Sullivan of Penn Yan and Barbara Sullivan of Penn Yan; several nieces and nephews; and may dear friends.

Nedra Osborne

OAKS CORNERS - Nedra Osborne, 57, of Carter Road, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the House of John in Clifton Springs, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
Friends called Tuesday, May 25 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 26 at the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in Southwick cemetery in Junius.
Friends may contribute to the Noah Fund, care of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, 1 E. Main St., Clifton Springs 14432.
Nedra was born May 19, 1947, in Lyons, the daughter of Alfred and Kathleen Weaver. She was employed for 32 years at Evans Chemetics in Waterloo. Nedra was a well-known long-distance runner for 27 years and competed at distances of 5K up to and including 100-plus miles. In 1988, she was inducted into the Greater Rochester Track Hub of Fame.
Nedra was a great inspiration to many people in her life. She was a volunteer at the Clifton Springs Hospital serving in many capacities. Nedra was a passionate supporter of numerous cancer support groups and was an active member of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, participating in many of the church's ministries.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Don "Ozzie" Osborne; children, Christine and Don; sisters, Sharon (Bill) Ingison and Susann (Dale) Smith; brother, Leroy (Sharon) Weaver; several nieces and nephews; and a very special grand-niece, Nedra Ashley.

Joseph N. Quartaro

GENEVA - Joseph N. Quartaro, 74, of 640 Castle St., passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital.
Family and friends called Friday, May 28 at the Palmisano Funeral Home. Funeral services were Saturday, May 29 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum.
Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Joe was born Feb. 1, 1930, the son of Nicholas and Emma DiSanto Quartaro. He was retired from the Seneca Army Depot, where he served as the supervisor of the carpentry shop. He was a veteran of the Koran conflict and a former member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Dianfoni Quartaro; two sons, Nicholas (Stephanie) Quartaro of Lawrence, Kansas; and Paul (Shelly) Quartaro of Geneva; two daughters, Lori Hamid of LaGrange, Ill.; and Linda Quartaro of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Lucille Dobbler of Shortsville; 12 grandchildren, Andria, Anthony, Alia, Mimi, Zachary, Ashley, Joseph, Jacob, Joshua, Emma, Sylvia and Brianna; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul F. Scherbyn

PHELPS - Paul F. Scherbyn, 63, of 891 Maryland Road, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends called Monday, May 24 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Masonic services were held Tuesday, May 25 at the United Church of Phelps, followed by funeral services with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery at the convenience of the family.
It is suggested that contributions be made to Garoga-Sincerity Lodge 200, 67 Ontario St., Phelps 14532 or the Phelps Volunteer Ambulance, 7 Exchange St., Phelps, 14532.
Paul was born April 21, 2941, in Clifton Springs, the son of Francis and Mildred VanParys Scherbyn and was active in the United Church of Phelps. He worked for Phelps Sungas-Electric for over 10 years and retired July 31, 2003 from Parker Hannifin after 24 years of service.
Paul was a member of Garoga-Sincerity F&AM; Lodge 200, the Wide Awake Grange, the Phelps Historical Society and the Buckhorn Sportsman Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marcia Adams Scherbyn; daughter, Sharon Scherbyn of Phelps; son, David Scherbyn of Phelps; three grandchildren, Daniel Scherbyn of Lyons and Adam and Shelby Scherbyn of Waterloo; his mother, Mildred Scherbyn of Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Francis who died in 1977; and brother, Robert who died in 1995.
