PORT GIBSON - Vivian "Viv" M. VanDeMortel, 80, of Port Gibson, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Friends called Friday, May 28 at the Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home in Newark. Funeral services were Saturday, May 29 at the Port Gibson United Methodist Church, Greig Street in Port Gibson, Burial will be in Port Gibson cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road N., Rochester 14609.
Vivian was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Port Gibson, daughter of Guy and Eva May Dailey Norton. She was a member of the Port Gibson United Methodist Church.
Vivian loves you all unconditionally.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Bracht of Perinton, and Deborah Von Oesen of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, John (Kathleen) of Rochester; a brother, Roger "Yale" (Ginny) Norton of Clifton Springs; a sister-in-law, Christine (William) Frind of Pittsford; several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dale, who died in 1997; and her sister, Muriel Burns.
Graveside Service for Raymond H. Schroeder
PHELPS - The committal service for Raymond H. Schroeder, 71, of 1056 McIvor Road, who died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 in his home, was at 3 p.m. Friday, May 21 in the Resthaven cemetery in Phelps. The Rev. William Dorow, pastor of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Waterloo, officiated.
Arrangements were by the Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo.
W. Malcolm Griswold
CLIFTON SPRINGS - W. Malcolm Griswold, 100, of Dewey Avenue in Clifton Springs, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends called Sunday, June 6 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services were Monday, June 7 at the United Methodist Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Friends may contribute in Malcolm's memory, to the Clifton Springs Hospital, the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church or to the Clifton Springs Rotary Club.
Malcolm was born Nov. 8, 1903, in Syracuse, the son of Hovey and Mabel Chapman Griswold and was a graduate of Syracuse University in 1926. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Hovey H. Griswold, who founded the Ontario Telephone Co. in 1920 to serve the villages of Phelps and Clifton Springs. They later acquired the Trumansburg Home Telephone Co. to serve the villages of Trumansburg, Interlaken and Ovid. Malcolm's career spanned more than 50 years during which these companies developed and thrived under his leadership. Malcolm served on the board of education for 26 years and devoted many years to Scouting. He was a member of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church. Malcolm was a charter member of the Clifton Springs Rotary Club and served as its second president from 1934 to 1935. He also was a founding member of the Clifton Springs Country Club. Malcolm was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 75 years. He was elected to the New York State Telecommunications Association Hall of Fame in 1979. Malcolm served on the board of the Clifton Springs YMCA in 1977.
He is survived by sons, Robert (Joan) Griswold of Phelps and John (Sharon) Griswold of Lock Berlin; daughter, Susan (Jim) VerStreate of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 1993.
Jean E. Adams
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Jean E. Adams, 80, passed away Monday, May 31, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held June 19 at Clifton Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Riverview cemetery.

Jean was born April 23, 1924, in Rochester, the daughter of Edward and Sarah Adams. She was a World War II Navy WAVE veteran. Jean graduated in 1950 from the New York State Teachers College at Geneseo, having majored in library science. After some teaching in Niagara Falls and Port Byron, Miss Adams was the librarian at the Phelps Elementary School for many years.
Jean's hobbies included traveling, reading and playing croquet. She was a member of the state, county and local Retired Teachers Associations and of Delta Kappa Gamma. Jean had been active in the Ontario County Literacy Volunteers, the Newark D.A.R. Chapter, where she served as chaplain; the American Association of University Women, and the Finger Lakes Unit 49 of the WAVES International.
Jean was a member of the Clifton Springs Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Phelps American Legion.
She is survived by her brothers, Ralph (Mable) Adams of Clifton Springs and Gilbert (Ruth) Adams of Clifton Springs; nephews, Mark (Lynn), Jeffery (Olga), Scott and Gary Adams; nieces, Valerie Adams and Laurie (Christopher) Pane; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.
Judge Sullivan
NEWARK/PHELPS - Judge Sullivan, 78, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital.
There were no prior calling hours. A memorial service was Saturday, June 5 at the Newark Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Mr. Sullivan was born July 7, 1925, in Greenville, S.C., the son of John and Helen Brewster Sullivan. He was retired from C.H. Stuart Co., where he worked in the maintenance department.
Mr. Sullivan enjoyed the outdoors, working in his vegetable garden and door-to-door ministry, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mattie Clayton Sullivan; two sons, Charles (Daisy) Sullivan and Joseph (Mary) Sullivan; three daughters, Linda (Albert) Lugo, Diane Sullivan and Lucy Sullivan; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Lewis F. Bliss
NORTH ROSE - Lewis F. Bliss, 90, a resident of the Wayne County Nursing Home, died Thursday, June 3, 2004.
Friends and family attended calling hours Sunday, June 6 at the Farnsworth-Keysor Funeral Home in North Rose. A funeral service was held Monday, June 7 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose cemetery.

Lewis was born Feb. 20, 1914, in the town of Galen, the son of Benjamin and Elsie McBride Bliss. He was employed at Seeyle Ladder Co. in North Rose.
He is survived by his six children, Lois (Don) Dandino of Shortsville, Donald (Ann) Bliss Sr. of East Bethany, Linda (Robert) Davis of Auburn, Mike Bliss of North Rose, Edward (Stephanie) Bliss of Lyons and Dennis (Kathy) Bliss of North Rose; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, C. William (Pearl) Bliss of Massachusetts; sister, Marjorie Frazer of Lyons; sister-in-law, Viola Bliss of Savannah; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor in 1996; and brothers and sisters, James, Clarence, George, Edna, and Helen.
Mary Powell Dayton
NEWARK - Mary Alicia Dayton, 70, of Blue Cut Road, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Friends called Wednesday, June 9 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark. Funeral services were Thursday, June 10 at the funeral home with the Rev. Carlos Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery in Clifton Springs.

Mrs. Dayton was born April 9, 1934, in Phelps, the daughter of Vern and Mary Rickey Powell. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Mary retired from the Hutching Psychiatric Center in Syracuse, where she had worked in the kitchen.
She is survived by four sons, Gerald Stratton of Newark, Leon Stratton of SanDiego, Calif., Antonio Ceravolo and Joseph Ceravolo, both of Newark; a daughter, Roni Jean Stratton of Holley; seven grandchildren; and a great grandson; two brothers, Carl Powell of Syracuse and Scotty Powell of Vancouver, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean Marion Ennis
LYONS/CLIFTON SPRINGS - Jean Marion Ennis, 84, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Clifton Springs ;Hospital Nursing Home in Clifton Springs.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Drumblade Church.
Jean was born April 4, 1920, at the Bisset family estate, Lessendrum, in Aberdeenshire Scotland. During World War II, she served in the Women's Army Corps of the British Army and met Canadian Army Lieutenant Charles Ennis of Lyons. They were married
April 30, 1946, at Drumblade Church in Huntley, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and raised four children at Richmond Hill in Lyons.
Besides being a loving wife and mother, she taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and belonged to various civic organizations.
She also played the piano and had a great love for music that she shared with her family.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen Kasper-Paty of Falls Church, Va., Charles David Murray (Angela) Ennis of Greece, Monroe County, Edson Taft (Katherine) Ennis of Lyons, and Mary Gentner of Auburn; four grandchildren; nine nieces; and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lieutenant Col. William Turner Murray Bisset; her husband, Charles Edson Ennis; and three siblings, Kathleen, Rachel and Mordaunt.
Arrangement were by the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps.
Marjorie LaShier
PENN YAN - Marjorie LaShier, 87, of 4031 Bath Road, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan.
Calling hours were Saturday, June 12 at Weldon Funeral Home. A memorial service was Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Rushville.
Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery in Penn Yan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Wildlife Foundation.
Marjorie was born June 26, 1916, in Rochester, the daughter of Raymond and Edith Giles Bettys and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of the University of Rochester, Class of 1938, with a degree in English literature. She was also a member of the Garden Club of Penn Yan.
Marjorie was a gentle, caring person whom everyone loved.
She is survived by her sons, Albert F. Jr., of Manchester; Steven E. of Canandaigua; and Richard D. (Gloria) of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Cynthia (Henry) McGovern of Plattsburgh; a brother, Roger Bettys of Lower Gwynedd, Pa.; her grandchildren, Corey, Richard Jr., Thomas, Patrick and Paul; and several nieces and nephews.
Loretta VerDow
NEWARK - Loretta A. VerDow, 78, died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
Friends called Tuesday, June 8 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, June 9 at St. Michael's Church with the Rev. Peter Clifford celebrating. Burial will be in Newark cemetery.

Mrs. VerDow was born July 21, 1925 in Rochester, the daughter of Dominick and Josephine Ruffalo Bilotto. She was a communicant of St. Michael Church Eucharistic minister and a member of the Sacred Heart Society and the Arcadia Historical Society. Loretta had worked at Jackson & Perkins Nursery until its closing and then was employed in the office of the Wayne Drug Warehouse, retiring in 1992.
She is survived by her son, William Jr. of Clifton Springs; daughter, Laura (John) Santelli of Newark; grandson, Christopher; granddaughter, Jennifer Santelli; two sisters, Caroline (Masters) Santoro of Holly Hill, Fla. And Antoinette "Dolly" (John) Nussbaumer of Palmyra; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Eldine VerDow, Roland Orbaker, Eleanor Guard, Evelyn Hayslett and June Jones; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Theresa Lagana, Dick and Bunny Bogan and GiGi Gonzalez.
She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1990.
