Kathe A. Barra

GENEVA - Kathe A. Barra, 97, of 4179 Glass Factory Bay Road, passed away Monday, June 6, 2005 at Geneva Living Center North.
Friends called Thursday, June 9 at the McGuigan Funeral Home. Funeral services were Friday, June 10 at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Hoffman, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial followed at the Elm Lawn cemetery in Tonawanda.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Salvation Army.
Kathe was born Aug. 30, 1907, in Bremen, Germany, the daughter of Johann and Meta Gunnemann Puls. Kathe came to America in 1913 and after her marriage, she settled in Buffalo where she and her husband owned K&T; Delicatessen on Delaware Avenue in Tonawanda. She had an amazing rose garden and she loved to feed the ducks and birds. Kathe was loved by many friends and was called "Grandma" by everyone.
Kathe is survived by her son, Theodore (Kathleen) Barra Jr. of Tonawanda, Curtis Barra of Missouri and Jeffrey (Lori-Anne) Barra of Phelps; three great-grandchildren, Jason, Lisa and Cassandra Barra; and one great-great-grandchild, Abigail.
She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore C. Barra in 1974.

Martha Deeb Fazzari

BRADENTON, Fla.; Martha "Dee" D. Fazzari, 88, departed this life May 15, 2005, in Bradenton, Fla.
A Memorials Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, June 19 at St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 98 Genesee St. in Geneva.
Donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
Martha was born in Manchester, and served as a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She graduated as a registered nurse from Buffalo City Hospital, Buffalo. She worked for 25 years at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. where she touched the lives of many. Martha was a very active member of the Touchdown Club in Washington, D.C. and was a charter member of the Woman's Memorial.
Upon her retirement, she relocated to Bradenton, Fla. In 1987. She was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 18, and Moose Club Chapter 1072. Martha was affiliated with Bradenton Community Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are a devoted son, F. Michael Fazzari; three sisters, Sarah Johnson, Betty Eassa of Syracuse, and Esther Ferris of Rochester; one brother, Michael Deeb of Arlington, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Leon Galens

RUSHVILLE - Leon Galens, 83, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at this Twitchell Road home, surrounded by his loving family.
Friends called Monday, June 6 at the Fuller Funeral Home, in Canandaigua where funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7. Burial will be in Overackers cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in his memory may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva 14456, the Middlesex Volunteer Ambulance, or to Heifer Project International.
Leon was born Nov. 28, 1921 in Clifton Springs, to the late John and Emma Maslyn Galens. He attended rural school and spent the next 67 years learning something new every day. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II. Leon owned and operated farms in Hopewell and Rushville for many years. Although Leon had been employed in other occupations, farming was his first love and he always felt a special spirituality while working with the earth.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marge Kneut Galen so Rushville; his children, Mike (Lisa) Galens of Stanley, Beth (Mike) Reifsteck of Rushville, Anne (Randy) Grover of Italy Valley and Amy (Scott) Brown of Rushville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Helen Crowley of Penn Yan, Regina (Leo) Krolak of Newark and Rosilie Galens of Newark; his brothers, Charles Galens and Robert Galens, both of Clifton Springs; and Francis Galens of Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Alma DeWild and Ruth Gardner; and his brothers, Lewis, Jack, and William Galens.

LARRY K. GRAHAM

Phelps - Larry K. Graham, 64, of 1839 Spafford Road, died peacefully at his home Saturday (June 18, 2005) with his family by his side after a courageous fight with cancer.
Friends called Tuesday (June 21) at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 main St. in Phelps. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday (June 22) at the United Church of Phelps, with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Resthaven cemetery.
It is suggested that contributions be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva 14456.
Larry was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Sodus, the son of the late Carl E. and Florence Marie Shaffer. He was a member of the United Church of Phelps and the Phelps Volunteer Fire Department. Larry retired after 35 years as supervisor with Phelps Guide Rail.
He is survived by his loving wife of five years, Joan Ripley Graham; children, Steve (Kathy) Graham of Mount Zion, Ill., Scott Graham of Geneva, Kent (Missy) Graham of Phelps; stepchildren, Randy Joseph of Phelps, Debra (Kevin) Fisher of Phelps, Derek (Sheri) Joseph of Phelps, brothers and sisters, James Shaffer of Florida, Rosalie (Carlton) Lyon of Sterling, Patsy (Bob) Sharpe of Lyons, Judy Hollenbeck of Hannabil, Sandy (Charlie) Stewart of Bloomfield, Vernon (Fred) Graham of Houston, Texas; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Graham; and two sisters, Ann Landis and Patty Perkins.

DUANE R. HAMMOND
Retired NYS D.O.T.

Romulus - Duane R. Hammond, 75, of 5418 Route 89, passed away Tuesday (June21, 2005) at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Friends called Thursday (June 23, 2005) at the Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home, 32 State St. in Seneca Falls. Funeral Services were at 11 a.m. Friday (June 24) at the Varick United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara Deangelis officiating. Interment will be in Canoga cemetery, Fayette.
Contributions may be made to Life Time Care, 1120 S. Main St., Newark 14513, in memory of Duane.
Duane was born in Cortland, the son of Lester T. and Mildred Deal Hammond. He spent most of his life in the Finger Lakes area and was a life member of the Varick United Methodist Church. He was past president and member of the Early Ford V8 Club of America for more than 40 years, and was also a member of the Wayne Drumlin Antique Auto Region Inc. Duane retired as a foreman from the New York State Department of Transportation in 1992, after more than 30 years of service. He and his wife, Barbara Wade Hammond celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary June 10, 2005.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Dion (Cynde) Hammond of Romulus, Daren (Cheryl) Hammond of Phelps and Drew (Vikki) Hammond of Ovid; a daughter, Donna (Robert) Hart of Newark; a brother, Bruce E. Hammond of Florida; seven grandchildren; an uncle, Kenneth Hammond of Cortland and several cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Dana Hammond, in 1970.

DAVID A. 'DOC' NEILL

Clifton Springs - David A. "Doc" Neill, 60 died Monday (June 20, 2005) at University Medical Center in Syracuse after a long illness.
A celebration of his life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday (June 30) at the Granger Homestead, 295 N. Main St. in Canandaigua.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 400, Kansas City, MO 64114-3367.
Mr. Neill was born in 1944, in Rochester, but grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He served four years in the Army in the early 1960s. He owned The Bookshop in Canandaigua until 1984. He had worked as a direct care aide for Fingerlakes DDSO since 1984.
He practiced the Buddhist way of life, dedicating himself to the service of others and showing compassion and empathy to all. He had many interests and hobbies, including hiking, art work and woodworking. He loved books and was an avid reader. He also loved animals.
He was a member of the Finger Lakes Drumming Society, the Finger Lakes Land Trust, the Adopt-a-Whale Foundation and the Friends of Bill and Rosanne societies.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sylvia Neill; one son, Robert Neill of Rochester; one sister, Linda Gonzalez of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Carol Lange) Fellows of Buffalo and Priscilla (William) Schunk of Pavilion; his father and mother-in-law, Alton and Marian Fellows of Batavia; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his beloved cat, Molly.

KATHRYN NICHOLSON
(1916-2005)

Clifton Springs/Canandaigua - Kathryn Nicholson, age 89, formerly of Clifton springs, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Elm Manor Nursing Home in Canandaigua.
In keeping with her wishes, there were no calling hours. Friends were invited to attend a graveside service Monday, June 20, at 1 p.m. in Riverview cemetery, County Road 13, Clifton Springs, with Fr., Anthony Calimeri officiating.
Kathryn was born April 2, 1916 in Sayre, PA, and was the daughter of Samuel and Rose Maslyn. She worked for several years at Garlock Packing and retired from Newark State School as a building manager.
Kathryn will be missed by all her loving friends and family.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Sharon Arenivar and Gregg Nicholson; five great-grandchildren; niece, Ceilia Powell; sister-in-law, Inez Veto; grandniece, Mary Jane Gow; and several other grandnieces and grandnephews.
Arrangements were entrusted to R.A. Patrick Funeral Home, Clifton Springs.

MARGUERITE JANE YOUNGS

Phelps - Marguerite Jane Youngs, 80 of Phelps Street, died unexpectedly Saturday (June 18, 2005) at her home.
Friends and family were invited to attend a memorial service at 5 p.m. Monday (June 20) at the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons, with the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Huling Hummel officiating. Burial will be in South Lyons cemetery.
For those wishing, please make contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons in Jane's memory.
Jane was born April 28, 1925, in Holland Patent, a daughter to Everett E. and Marguerite Robert Evans. She retired from Newark Developmental Center after many years of employment.
Surviving are her son, Douglas (Bonnie) Youngs of Nevada; daughter, Karen (Paul) Bartishevich of Trumansburg;; six grandchildren, Benn, Jay, Alec, Anna Leigh, Isabel, and Connor; and sister, Sally Sorensen of Newark.
Arrangements were under the direction of Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home in Lyons.

Charlotte A. Sanford

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Charlotte A. Sanford, 62, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the House of John in Clifton Springs surrounded by her loving family.
Friends called Friday, June 24 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, June 25, 2005 at St. Felix Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in East Newark cemetery.
Friends may contribute to the House of John or to Clifton Springs Community Cancer Center in Charlotte's memory.
Charlotte was born Jan. 26, 1943 in Clifton Springs, the daughter of the late Peter and Mildred Price and had lived in the area all of her life. She was employed as a quality control inspector for UltraLife Batteries Inc., and prior to that Charlotte was a waitress at the Town Pump Restaurant. She was a member of the Humane Society, the Arthritis Foundation, ASPCA, Northshore Ambulance League and the Joyce Meyers Ministry.
Charlotte absolutely loved animals, especially her cats - Oranges, Tiger, Smokey, Oreo and Checkers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored. Charlotte was a very dedicated and hardworking woman, who loved her job and the people she worked with. She will be sadly missed by all her loving friends and family.
She is survived by her daughters, Theresa "Terry" (Ronald Bently) Black of Gasport, Tracy (John Brice) Sanford of Clifton Springs, Tricia (Richard) VanSlyke of Syracuse; their father, Lawrence C. Sanford of Clifton Springs; grandchildren, Kalila and Krystal Black, Khadijah Sanford, Johnathan Bice, Joseph and Alexandra VanSlyke; brother; Tom (June) Price of Newark; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Clarence E. Schutt

NEWARK - Clarence E. Schutt, entered into rest Sunday, June 26, 2005 in his 88th year.
At his request, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Marion cemetery.
Clarence was a World War II veteran and a retiree of Sarah Coventry of Newark.
He is survived by his son, Richard (Elaine) Schutt of Phelps; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by the Young Funeral Home in Williamson.
