Winifred L. Pullen "Winnie"

Newark - Winifred Lucille Pullen, 83 of Welcher Road died suddenly at her home Monday November 26, 2001.
There will be no prior calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be Thursday (Nov. 29) at Fairville cemetery at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. There will be a family gathering at the Fairville Fire Hall following the graveside service.
Winnie was born the daughter of Raymond and Ethel Warner Smith on August 13, 1918 in Sodus New York. She graduated from Newark High School in 1935. She was a devoted wife and mother. Winnie loved animals and took in many stray pets over her life time. She and her husband John owned and operated the Pullen Auto Parts on Welcher Road for many years.
Winnie is survived by her daughter Norma (Irvin) McIntyre of Newark; sons Ronald and his friend Jamie and Daniel (Kim) Pullen both of Newark; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister Sharon (Ron) Sochia of Newark; brother Ernest (Hilda) Smith of Newark; sisters-in-law June Smith and Betty Smith; brother-in-law Richard Cole.
Winnie was predeceased by her husband John in 1981; sister Shirley Cole; brothers Durwood and Melvin.

Franklin T. Russell Sr.

Newark - Franklin T. Russell Sr., 92 died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
There will be no prior calling hours or services. Burial will be at Glenwood cemetery, Geneva at the convenience of the family.
In memory of Mr. Russell, in lieu of flowers, a memorial remembrance may be made to the Newark Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 680, Newark, 14513 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, 13057 or St Mark's Episcopal Church, 400 South Main Street, Newark, 14513.
Mr. Russell was born the son of Elijah T. and Lulu Taylor Russell on September 24, 1909 in Millbrook, New York. He married Helen Fordon on June 24, 1933. He was the District Manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Mr. Russell had a special interest in trains and theater organs.
Mr. Russell was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newark and was the former treasurer; R.S.V.P.; American Cancer Society; Newark Rotary; Newark Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance where he served as Office Manager; Newark Chamber of Commerce (former manager); Score (S.B.A.); served on the Wayne County Rehabilitation Program for 18 months; and on the NDC Resident Training For Jobs for 14 months.
Mr. Russell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Hon. Franklin T. and Cynthia Russell of Newark; daughter and son-in-law Hon. Barbara and Richard Garrett of Tully, New York; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen on November 21, 1999 and his twin brother Randolph Russell.

Rene A. Hillageer

Marbletown/Newark - Rene Ashley Hillageer, 87 of Miller Road died Sunday, November 4, 2001 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
Family and friends may call Tuesday (Nov. 6) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A Funeral Service will be Wednesday (Nov. 7) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Peter Clifford officiating. Burial will follow at Newark cemetery.
In memory of Rene, in lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial remembrance to Newark Volunteer Fire Department Deluge Hose Co. #1, 150 East Miller Street, Newark, 14513.
Rene was born the son of Camiel and Matillda Calaus Hillageer on March 14, 1914 in Williamson, New York. He retired from Sarah Coventry where he worked in the maintenance department. Rene was a member of St. Michael Church in Newark, Elks Lodge in Newark and the Newark Volunteer Fire Dept., Deluge Hose Co. #1 which he joined on October 1, 1942.
Rene is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth "Betty" Hillageer; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Donald Buck of South Carolina; step-sons James (Virginia) Graf of Webster, Charles (Susan) Graf of Chicago and Steven (Paulette) Graf of Georgia; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sister Clara VanEenaeme of Newark; three nieces.
Rene was predeceased by his first wife Pauline in 1976.

Madelene M. DeWispelaere

Lyons/Newark - Madelene M. DeWispelaere, 82 of Ross Road died Monday, October 29, 2001 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
Family and friends may call Thursday (Nov. 1) from 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A Funeral Service will be Friday morning (Nov. 2) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. A private burial, for immediate family only, will follow at East Newark cemetery.
In memory of Madelene a memorial remembrance may be made to the Lyons Volunteer Ambulance, 122 Broad Street, Lyons, 14489; Newark Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 680, Newark, 14513; American Diabetes, 20 Ramona St., Rochester, 14613 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, 13057.
Madelene was born the daughter of John and Ida Geldorf Timmerman on March 1, 1919 in Walworth, New York. She graduated from Marion High School in 1936. She retired from Newark Developmental Center in 1984 where she first worked as a ward aid and then as a seamstress. For many years she attended the Arcadia Reformed Church then on East Avenue in Newark. Madelene was a member of the Top Of The Hill Retirees and the Newark American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, reading and most of all working in her flower garden.
Madelene is survived by her loving husband William DeWispelaere; sons Raymond Fisher of Lyons, Gorden (Marsha Lutes) Fisher of Clifton Springs, William (Cathy Kotvis) DeWispelaere of Wolcott and Dennis DeWispelaere of Newark; daughters Phyllis (Richard) Hochbruckner of Palmyra and Linda (James) Christensen of Rushville; ten grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; sister Virginia Timmerman (Robert) Ritter of Texas; many nieces and nephews.
Madeline was predeceased by her sisters Marie DeCracker, Joahnna Bouwens and Julia Peer.

Xander C. Simmons

Newark - Xander C. Simmons, new born, died October 30, 2001 at Via Health of Wayne - Newark Campus.
Family and friends may call Saturday (Nov. 3) from 12 noon - 1 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark where a funeral service will follow the calling at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Burial at the convenience of the family at White Church cemetery in Lisbon, New York.
In memory of Xander a memorial remembrance may be made to a charity of choice.
Xander was born the daughter of Kevin Simmons and Julie Danforth on October 30, 2001 in Newark, New York.
She is survived by her parents; her half sister Makayla; paternal grandparents Sue Simmons of Newark and Ralph Simmons of Clyde; maternal grandparents Norman and Susan Danforth of Newark; paternal great grandparents Donald Simmons of Clyde and Edward Miller of Florida; maternal great grandparents Lawrence and Janice Gregory of Florida; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shirley C. Adams

Newark - Shirley C. Adams, 66 died Sunday, October 21, 2001 at the House of John in Clifton Springs.
Family and friends may call Tuesday. (Oct. 23) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark where a Funeral Service will be Wednesday morning (Oct..24) at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow at Fairville cemetery.
A memorial remembrance may be made to the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
Shirley was born December 20, 1934 in Marion, New York.. She worked for 20 years at Sybron in Henrietta in data processing, retiring in 1998. Shirley enjoyed working, cooking and was a devoted wife and mother.
Shirley is survived by her husband Maurice Adams; son Lance (Jane Ann) Adams of Newark; daughters, Christine (Jon) Verkey of Newark, Lori (James) Jones of Palmyra, Coleen Adams of Newark; mother, Susie Cauwels. Ten grandchildren; brother, Ronald Canwels of Clifton Springs; sisters, JoAnn (Charles) Tange of Texas and Delores (Richard) Siler of Newark; many nieces & nephews.

Harold Thaxton Jr.

Newark/Williamson - Harold Thaxton Jr., 55 died suddenly Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Family and friends may call Friday (Oct. 12) from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Deacon Ed Sergeant officiating. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery in Dundee at 1:30 pm.

Harold was born, the son of Harold and Ethel Masatwski Thaxton on August 11, 1946 in Dayton, Kentucky. He loved football and watching old John Wayne movies.
Harold is survived by his brothers Paul Thomas of Bergen and Ronald Thomas of Dundee; many friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO.
Harold was predeceased by his mother Ethel Hollenbeck and step-father Ralph Hollenbeck.

Raymond G. Neu

Newark - Raymond George Neu, 78 died Friday, September 21, 2001 at the DeMay Living Center.
There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be Wednesday, September 26 at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Clifford celebrating the Mass.
In memory of Mr. Neu a memorial remembrance may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1500 Winton Road North, Rochester, 14609.
Mr. Neu was born the son of Joseph and Julie Stark Neu on May 15, 1923 in Rochester, New York. He had retired from the Rochester Telephone Co. where he repaired circuit boards. He was a life member of the American Legion August Mauer Post 286 and the VFW Post 2886 both in Newark. We at the funeral home prondly fly the Navy Flag in honor of his service to our country during WWII.
Mr. Neu is survived by his sons Thomas (Anita) and Alan (Linda) Neu both of Rochester; daughters Beth (Dale) Platt, Jennifer (John) Woloshyn both of Rochester and Mary Neu and her friend Charles of Newark; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Harold; sister Veronica; many nieces and nephews; special friends Cathy and Jeremy.
Mr. Neu was predeceased by his son Michael Neu and daughter Laura Casper.

Bruce M. Matteson

Newark/E. Palmyra - Bruce Mitchell Matteson, 75 of Whitbeck Road died Sunday September 16, 2001 at Via-Health of Wayne-Newark Campus.
Family and friends may call Tuesday (Sept. 18) from 3-5 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will be Wednesday (Sept. 19) at 2 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 102 Hope Avenue, Newark. Burial will follow at East Palmyra cemetery.
In memory of Bruce those wishing may make a memorial remembrance to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund.
Bruce was born the son of Albert and Mae Mitchell Matteson on June 22, 1926 in Arcadia, New York. He retired from NYS Electric and Gas Co in 1986 after 35 years of service as a Chief Lineman.
Bruce was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and had served as past chairperson of the Stewardship Committee. He was a past member of the Newark Volunteer Fire Department - Deluge Hose Co. #1. Bruce was a member of the Newark American Legion, August Mauer Post 286 and the Newark VFW, Post 2883. We at the funeral home proudly fly the Army flag in honor of his service to our country during WWII.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Shirley Wage; son David Matteson of New Jersey; grandchildren Alex and Gretchen Matteson; sister Shirley Thoms of Lyons; brothers-in-law Robert (Thelma), Richard (Charlene) and Jerry (Nancy) Wage all of Newark; sisiters-in-law Jackie (Lindy) Kouwe of Newark and Bonnie (Jim) Turner of Clifton Springs; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Frank C. Bender

Newark/Lyons - Frank Charles Bender, 91, died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
Family and friends may call Monday (Sept. 17) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will be Tuesday (Sept. 18) at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Rev. Carlos Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons Rural cemetery.

Mr. Bender was born the son of Fred and Mary Frick Bender on March 21, 1910 in Newark, New York. He was known for the largest dairy farm in Wayne county during the 1930's and 40's. He also raised a five time New York State and Ohio Champion Stallion.
Mr. Bender is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Mary and Eric Dizmang of Newark; grandsons David, Shane and Cody; many brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews.

Yvonne Kuhlman

Lyons - Yvonne L. Kuhlman, 66 died suddenly Thursday, September 13, 2001 at Via Health of Wayne-Newark Campus.
Family and friends may call Sunday (Sept. 16) from 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will be Monday (Sept. 17) at 3 p.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Centerville, Pennsylvania. Burial will follow at the Centerville cemetery.

Yvonne was born the daughter of Delbert and Dorothy Bracken Miller on April 17, 1935 in Gray, PA. Yvonne graduated from Pittsburgh High School and the Pittsburgh Business School. She retired from the Wayne County Sheriffs Department where she worked as a Senior Accounting Clerk.
Yvonne is survived by her son Thomas (Barb) Kuhlman of Newark; daughters Carol Kuhlman of Lyons, Lori (David) Kuhlman-Horton of Phelps and Kimberly Kuhlman and her friend Dale of Savannah; seven grandsons and one great grandson; brother James (Linda) Pullin of Lyons; several nieces and nephews.
Yvonne is pre-deceased by her husband Russell D. Kuhlman in 1987, mother Dorothy in 1994 and daughter Debra in 1996.
