Newark - Earl Warren Pierce, 86 of Pamela Lane died suddenly Monday, May 27, 2002 at his home.
Family and friends may call Thursday (May 30) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday (May 31) at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark with Rev. Peter Clifford officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ann's cemetery in Palmyra.
In memory of Mr. Pierce, a memorial remembrance may be made to St. Michael Church or Newark - Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 680, Newark, New York 14513.
Mr. Pierce was born the son of Warren and Sadie Pierce on September 10, 1915 in the town of Arcadia. He retired from Garlock Corp. in Palmyra. Mr. Pierce was a member of St. Michael Church.
Mr. Pierce is survived by his sons Roger (Helen) of Newark and Richard Pierce of North Carolina; grandchildren James (Tammy) and Monica Pierce; step-sons Jack Petrosino and James (Betty) Petrosino both of Auburn; step-daughter Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Donald) Bucholtz of Florida; many step-grandchildren; brother Harold (Lila) Pierce of Rochester; sister Agatha Jensen of Newark; many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pierce was predeceased by his first wife Madeline VanLaeken Pierce and second wife Mary Ann Wisniewski Pierce.

Isaac DeRue

Issac DeRueNewark - Isaac DeRue, 87 of East Union Street died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
Family and friends may call Sunday (May 26) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A Funeral Service will be Monday (May 27) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at the convenience of the family.
In memory of Mr. DeRue, a memorial remembrance may be made to the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department, Route 88, Newark, NY 14513 or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
Mr. DeRue was born the son of John and Suzanne Jansen DeRue on March 6, 1915 in Williamson, NY. He enjoyed working with his hands, making doll houses and toy furniture. He also repaired lawnmowers at Isaac's Repair Shop in Fairville. Mr. DeRue was a charter member of the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department and the Newark American Legion.
The staff at the funeral home proudly fly the Army flag in honor of his service to our country during WWII.
Mr. DeRue is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Martha Shultz DeRue; sons Bob (Melody), Edward (Sandra) and Harold (Joyce) DeRue all of Fairville; daughters Suzanne (John) Glerum of Tennessee and Linda Niedenfuhr of New Jersey; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; sister Nellie Boyko of Newark; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. DeRue was predeceased by his son-in-law Peter Niedenfuhr in 2001.

Kathryn A. Potter-Archer

Kathryn ArcherMurfreesboro, TN - Kathryn Ann Potter-Archer, 38 died suddenly Thursday, May 22, 2002.
Calling hours will be Wednesday (May 29) at 12 noon and a Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Stafford United Methodist Church. Burial at Machpelah cemetery in LeRoy.
In memory of Kathryn, a memorial remembrance may be made to a charity of choice.
Kathryn was born the daughter of Walter Sowa and Barbara Shepard Sowa on August 14, 1963 in Batavia, New York. She worked at First Comp. Omaha Insurance in Tennessee.
Kathryn is survived by her daughter Sarah Potter; mother Barbara Sowa of LeRoy; father Walter Sowa Jr. of Florida; brother Walter Sowa III; sister Kristine Sowa; many aunts, uncles, cousins and two nieces.

Stewart L. Davis

Newark - Stewart LaVerne Davis, 81 of Blackmar Street died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Via Health of Wayne - Newark Campus.
Family and friends may call Monday (May 20) from 6-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. There will be a prayer service by the Newark VFW Post 2883 at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be Tuesday (May 21) at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Burial will follow at South Lyons cemetery.
In memory of Mr. Davis, a memorial remembrance may be made to the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 680, Newark, New York 14513.
Mr. Davis was born the son of George and Beatrice Marriott Davis on June 1, 1920 in Newark, New York. He worked at Fold-Pak for 34 years retiring in 1982. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and hunting.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Newark VFW Post 2883. The funeral home proudly flies the Army flag in honor of his service during WWII.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Esther Herman Davis; sons Robert Davis of Lyons and Richard (Pat) Davis of Newark; daughter Nancy (James) O'Neill of Newark; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother Vaughn Davis of Lodi; sisters Gerrie Brink of Newark, Betty Dunhum and Oney (Clarence) Reubens both of Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Davis was predeceased by his grandson, brother Bernard and sister Molly Tellier.

Violet R. SanAngelo

Newark - Violet Ruth SanAngelo, 86 died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the DeMay Living Center.
Family and friends may call Thursday (May 16) from 6-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will be Friday (May 17) at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Cynthia Huling Hummel officiating. Burial will follow at Newark cemetery.
In memory of Mrs. SanAngelo, a memorial remembrance may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, 13220 or to the American Diabetes Association, 20 Ramona Street, Rochester, 14613.
Mrs. SanAngelo was born the daughter of Frank and Ada Severence Kless on April 29, 1916 in Clifton Springs, New York. She worked at Sarah Coventry for ten years in the cafeteria. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Mrs. SanAngelo is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law James and Shirley, David and Sharon and Michael and Barbara SanAngelo; eight grandchildren, two great granddaughters and two great grandsons; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. SanAngelo was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1981, one brother and two sisters.

Rev. William H. Bartels

Newark - Rev. William Harold Bartels, 70 died Sunday, May 12, 2002 as a result of an automobile accident.
Rev. william bartelsFamily and friends may call Thursday (May 16) from 2-4 and 7-9 and Friday from 1-2 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A Funeral Service will be Friday (May 17) at 3 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 102 Hope Avenue, Newark. Burial will take place in Elm Lawn cemetery in Buffalo, New York at the convenience of the family.
In memory of Rev. Bartels a memorial remembrance may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church of Newark or to The Lutheran Hour.
Rev. Bartels was born the son of Henry and Marie Bessmer Bartels on November 8, 1931 in Independence, Missouri. Rev. Bartels received a Masters Degree of Sacred Theology and a Masters Degree of Clinical Psychology. He accepted a call to his first parish in Minnesota in 1957 and then moved to Otto, New York in 1959. He was Chaplain for New York State for over 30 years serving at West Seneca State School, Marcy Psychiatric Center and Central New York Psychiatric Center. In 1990 he accepted a call to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark retiring in 1997. Rev. Bartels never did retire, he continued doing interim for several churches in the area. For several years he was on the radio program, "Lutheran Hour" in Buffalo. He enjoyed driving and had driven in all 48 states and all but two Provinces in Canada. Rev. Bartels sang in the "Maennerchor" (men's choir) and toured Germany with the group.
Rev. Bartels was a member of the Newark Clergy Fellowship and volunteered for Meals On Wheels.
Rev. Bartels is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Dorothy Kettunen Bartels; children David (Peggy) Bartels of Clinton, NY, Deborah (Phillip) Beiderbecke of Valhalla, NY, Sharon (Kenneth) Stone of Massachusetts and Mark Bartels of Georgia; grandchildren Timothy and Audrey Bartels, Lane and Samantha Stone; mother Marie Bartels of Missouri; brother Donald (Jacque) Bartels of Missouri; sister Barbara Hulse of Missouri; nephew Ben and niece Beth Ann.

David W. Oosterling

Newark - David W. Oosterling, 65 died suddenlyWednesday, May 1, 2002 at his home on Route 88N.
Family and friends may call Friday (May 3) from 4 to 7 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark where a funeral service will follow calling at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Carlos Smith officiating. Burial will be at White Haven Memorial Park in Perinton at the convenience of the family.
In memory of Dave, a memorial remembrance may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, East Miller Street, Newark or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, 13220.
Dave was born the son of Peter and Caroline LaGasse Oosterling in Rochester, New York on September 20, 1936. He retired from the Newark Central Schools where he worked in the maintenance department. At one time he worked for Newark Hospital.
Dave was a member of the Newark American Veterans Support Organization (AVSO). He enjoyed working in the yard, with wood and electrical wiring. He was a "Jack of all trade and master of none".
Dave is survived by his wife Gene Grant Oosterling; children Linda (Paul) Fowler of Lyons, Timothy Oosterling and his friend Charmane of Clyde, Thomas (Kay) Oosterling of Newark and Brenda Oosterling of Newark; grandchildren Kelli, Jonathan, Grant and Jacob; step-grandson Paul Bowler; sister Jeannette (Harold) Glerum of Newark; sister-in-law Shirley Oosterling of Lyons; many nieces, nephews and a great great niece.
Dave was predeceased by his brother Fred on May 2, 1987.

Michael Hermenet Jr.

Newark - Michael Hermenet Jr, 89 died suddenly Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Rochester General Hospital.
Family and friends may call Thursday (April 11) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. Visitation by the members of the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance will be at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be Friday (April 12) at 10 a.m. with Rev. Elton Smith officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Marion cemetery.

Mr. Hermenet was born the son of Michael and Nellie Boeye Hermenet on June 11, 1912 in Marion, New York. He owned and operated the Hermenet Farms on Minstead Road in Marion. Mr. Hermenet enjoyed playing baseball and in his later years watching baseball on TV.
Mr. Hermenet is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Vern and Sandy Hermenet of Newark; daughter and son-in-law Marjorie and Francis DeWind of Manchester; five grandchild and seven great grandchildren; sisters Anna (Raymond) Rommel of Newark, Elsie (Harold) Norsen and Ruth Ann (James) Cheeseman both of Florida; many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Mr. Hermenet was predeceased by his loving wife Liz (Kotvis) Hermenet on November 28, 2000; sisters Nellie Elliot and Elizabeth DeMeyers.

Helen Gunderman

Newark - Helen Gunderman, 75 died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Via Health of Wayne - Newark Campus.
Family and friends may call Wednesday (March 27) from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Ed Sergeant officiating. Burial will follow at East Newark cemetery.
In memory of Helen a memorial remembrance may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Helen was born the daughter of Howard and Eva Hall Gunderman on February 28, 1927 in Chemung County. She enjoyed stuffed animals, dolls and kittens.
Helen is survived by her niece Beverly Shaffer of Florida and many friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO.

Agnes Austin

Wolcott - Agnes Austin, 75 died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Via Health of Wayne - Newark Campus.
Family and friends may call Tuesday (March 26) from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12 noon (following calling) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark with Rev. Peter Clifford celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Fairville cemetery.

Agnes was born the daughter of John and Margaret Bostwick Austin on January 12, 1927 in the town of Arcadia, New York. She enjoyed collecting dolls, listening to music, dining out, candy and being with children.
Agnes is survived by her sister Margaret "Mary" Pangrazio of LeRoy; seven nephews and one niece and many friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO.
Agnes was predeceased by her parents and brother-in-law Edward Pangrazio.

Donald J. Cook

Newark - Donald Joseph Cook, 89 of Summit Drive died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at the House Of John in Clifton Springs.
At the family's request there will be no prior calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family at the Newark cemetery, North Main Street with Rev. Dan Benedict officiating.
In memory of Mr. Cook, in lieu of flowers, a memorial remembrance may be made to the House of John, 14 Spring Street, Clifton Springs, 14432 or HOSPICE - Genesee Region Home Care, 513 West Union Street, Newark, 14513.
Mr. Cook was born the son of Walter and Mary Hyde Cook on March 15, 1912 in Batavia, New York. He retired from the Newark Post Office in 1980 where he worked as a clerk for 36 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #83 F. & A.M. of Newark, the Newark VFW Post 2883 and the Newark Country Club.
The staff at the funeral home proudly fly the US Air Force flag in honor of his service to our country during World War II.
Mr. Cook is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Evelyn Doyle Cook; son and daughter-in-law Donald K. and Paula Cook of New Jersey; granddaughters Suzanne (Anthony) Paldino of New Jersey and Sandra McBride of Ohio; four great grandchildren; brother Raymond (Ruth) Cook of Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cook was predeceased by his brother Harold Cook in 2000; sister Katherine Cook Feb. 28, 2002.
