Dorothy A. Rapoza

WATERLOO - Mrs. Dorothy A. Rapoza, 58, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2005 at the Geneva General Hospital.
Friends called Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Coe-Genung Funeral Home. A memorial service was Friday, Sept. 16 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Waterloo. The Rev. Robert Lawthers, priest in charge of St. John's In the Wilderness, Paul Smiths, officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery in Waterloo.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Rapoza; two daughters, Michelle (Brian) Maney of Oaks Corners and Sherry Ash of Canandaigua; one son, Shawn Clark (Susan White) of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Madeline Ash, C.J. Ash, Christopher Maney and Justin Maney; two brothers, Robert (Dorothy) Birch of Lynchburg, Va., and James (Mary Kay) Birch of Farmington; two sisters, Mary (Robert) Lawthers of Lake Clear and Janet (Edwin) Krell of Auburn; several aunts, uncles, cousins, many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Emma Birch; and one brother, Charles Birch.

Darlene "Dee" Rogers

GENEVA - Darlene "Dee" Rogers, of Route 96A in Geneva, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at the Geneva General Hospital.
In keeping with her wishes, there were no prior calling hours.
A memorial service to celebrate her life was held Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs, with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating.
Friends may make contributions to the family at 3917 State Route 96A, Lot G., Geneva 14456, in Dee's memory.
Dee was born on Nov. 23, 1949, in Clifton Springs. She was an activities assistant at Clifton Springs Hospital and a member of the Newark JCC. Dee loved to cook and garden, and she was quite an artist, painting pictures for friends and family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all of her loving friends and family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill of Geneva; children, Amy (Andrew) Pieters of Newark, Kim (Doug) Groover of Newark, Kari Sergent of West Palm Beach, Fla., Erin (Brice) Fisher of Newark and Kristi Emmerich of Seneca Falls; parents, Pearl (Thomas) Wiley of Clifton Springs; very special niece and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Nuncie Maruo; brother, Ronald Mauro; and sister, Patricia Saunders.

Leila J. Wensel Lawrence

GENEVA - Leila J. Wensel Lawrence, 79, formerly of Geneva, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at her daughter's home in Katy, Texas, following an extended illness.
A private memorial service will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or the American Heart and Lung Association.
Lee, as she was known to friends and family, is survived by her daughter, Margo (Stephen) O'Connor of Katy and granddaughter, Shannon O'Connor; son, H. Eugene "Spike" (Carla) Lawrence and grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Lawrence of Cedar Park, Texas; daughter, Mary Lee (David) Maine and grandson, Cory Maine of Canandaigua; brothers, Kenneth (Arddy) Wensel and Raymond (Dorrie) Wensel; brothers-in-law, Eugene K. (Elsie) Lawrence and Donald Soular; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, H.Frederick Lawrence; three sisters; and one brother.

Eleanor R. Page

CLIFTON SPRINGS/SENECA FALLS - Eleanor R. page, 98, formerly of 3024 E. Bayard St. extension in Seneca Falls, passed away Thursday morning Sept. 15, 2005 at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past five years.
A memorial service was Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at the United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls with the Rev. Marilyn Foster officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Spring Brook cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls, 2 Chapel St., Seneca Falls 13148.
Mrs. Page was born in West Walworth, the daughter of S. Albert and Ida Bills Reed. She graduated from Fairport High School in 1926. She graduated from Cornell University in 1930 with a bachelor of science degree. She and her husband celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past December. Mrs. Page retired in 1970 from the Seneca Falls School District where she was an elementary school teacher for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls, a member of Sa-Go-Ye-Wat-Ha Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She as a member of New York State Retired Teacher's Association and the Seneca Falls Retired Teachers Group, past president of Women's Society of Christian Service, past president of Seneca Falls PTA, past president of Women's Reading Club and a leader of the Girl Scouts. She was Secretary of Missionary Education of the Methodist Church. She had taught the study course for several years and was superintendent of Sunday school for 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, John E. Page of Clifton Springs; and a son, Stephen J. Page of Rochester.
She was predeceased by a twin sister, Elberta R. Johnson.

Donald E. "Flip" Walters

PHELPS - Donald E. "Flip" Walters, 75, of 216 Main St., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Friends called Friday, Sept. 23 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. A Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Sept. 24 at St. Francis Church in Phelps with the Rev. Mark Brewer officiating and the Rev. Anthony Calimeri as co-celebrant. Interment will be in St. Francis cemetery at the convenience of the family.
It is suggested that memorial donations be made to St. Francis Church or the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs 14432.
Don was born May 6, 1930, in Newcomerstown, Ohio, the son of the late Clarence and Lillie Mae VanSickle Walters. Don worked in heating and air conditioning sales for Sullivan Electric, Lang Heating, James Monaco and Robert Kortz Heating and Electric. Don was responsible for the set up of the rest areas on the New York State Thruway at the time of its inception.
Don was also a very active member of St. Francis Church in Phelps. He co-founded the St. Francis Food Cupboard with his wife, Virginia, 20 years ago. He was also a religious education teacher, a Eucharistic minister and a lay reader. Don was also involved for 20 years with the AFS. He was a member of the Phelps Planning Board. He was a Free & Accepted Mason and a member of the Phelps Lions Club.
Don was a member of the Phelps American Legion where he was a board member and the past president of the Clifton Springs Legion. He was proud to serve his country in the Navy during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Virginia Mauro Walters; children, Cindy Hall of Albion, Doug (Lisa) Walters of Lake Grove, Long Island, Michele Lohr of Shortsville, Cheryl Chester of Avon, Conn., and Marilyn (Joseph) DeRuyter of Hibiscus Harbor; grandchildren, Crystal, Clayton, Jesse, Jason, Emily, Evan, Jordan, Aaron and Addie; and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruth J. DesCamp

PHELPS - Mrs. Ruth J. DesCamp, 88, formerly of 647 S. Marbletown Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005 at the Ontario County Health Facility.
Friends called Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Francis Church in Phelps. Burial was Monday, Oct. 3 in Main Street cemetery in Newark.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Church, 12 Hibbard Ave., Clifton Springs 14432 or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. DesCamp was born March 13, 1917, in Brighton, the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth Adams. She was a member and daily communicant of St. Francis Church and truly loved the friendship of the people she attended daily Mass with along with a host of other friends. She also enjoyed writing poetry. She worked for the Phelps Central School in the cafeteria for many years and drove a bus for 10 years for the Phelps-Clifton Springs School District.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Richard) Guilliams of Phelps, and Brian (Karen) DesCamp of Phelps; grandchildren, Daniel Guilliams of Oswego, Thomas Guilliams of San Diego, Dana (Tauber) Emmings of East Rochester, Lisa Guilliams of Phelps, Staff Sgt. Adam DesCamp of Washington, D.C., Benjamin DesCamp of Phelps and Emily DesCamp of Phelps; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Abigail and Theodore Emmings; sister-in-law, Edith Adams; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Rose Haubner.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard, who died in 1983; and sisters, Doris DeRoo and Helen Peake; brothers, Harold, Albert and Bertie Adams.

Albert W. Hill

ENGLEWOOD, Fla./PHELPS - Albert W. Hill, 85, formerly of Phelps, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005.
Friends called Wednesday, Sept., 28 at the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 29 at the Funeral Home. Burial followed in Newton cemetery.
Albert was born April 10, 1920, in Phelps and moved to Englewood, Fla., in 2002. Mr. Hill served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the New York State Beekeepers Association and past commander and Chaplin of the Phelps American Legion. He was a civil war history buff and loved playing guitar and painting. He will be sadly missed by all of his loving friends and family.
He is survived by his children, Edward Hill of Denmark, William Hill of Port Charlotte, Fla., Judith Earl of Sarasota, Fla., Mary Jane Tesch of Sarasota; sister, Viola Coon of Phelps; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Nancy Marie Louise Schroeder-DuFresne

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Nancy Marie Louise Schroeder-DuFresne, 63, of Horizon Drive in Clifton Springs, went to be with her Lord after a battle with cancer.
Family and friends called Monday, Sept. 26 at the Doran Funeral Home Inc., 4 E. Bayard St. in Seneca Falls, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home with Sister Agnes Battersby of St. Francis Church in Phelps officiating. Burial followed in St. Columbkille cemetery in Seneca Falls.
If desired, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road North, Rochester 14609.
Nancy was born Sept. 16, 1942, in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Russell and Bernice McDermott Schroeder. She lived in Clifton Springs for 23 years, moving from Waterloo. She also lived in Seneca Falls. She had been employed Quality Inn of Newark and the Holiday Inn of Waterloo.
She is survived by three daughters, Nanette DuFresne of Clifton Springs, Patricia Guilliums of Las Vegas and Maryann (Jan) Major of Phelps; one son, Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Paul (Tammy) DuFresne Jr. of Maryland; seven grandchildren, Raymond and Michael Richards, Denise Guilliums, Jacqueline Major, Marcus (Tyiese) DuFresne, Lionel (Erica) DuFresne and Kelvin DuFresne; one sister, Connie (James) Madden of Ames, Iowa; four great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and her former husband, Paul DuFresne Sr.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Billy Major, who died in 2001; a granddaughter, Maraquitta DuFresne; two brothers, Joseph McDermott, who died in 2004, and Henry Schroeder, who died in 1968; and her longtime companions, Carl Erdle, who died in 1989, and Paul Pearson, who died in 2004.

Dorothy June Maruo

FREDERICK, Md. - Mrs. Dorothy June Mauro, 73, of Frederick, Md., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Services and interment will be at St. Francis cemetery in Phelps at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 17025, Baltimore, MD 21297 or to the American Diabetes Association, 800 Wyman Park, Suite 110, Baltimore, MD 21211.
Mrs. Mauro was born June 19, 1929, in New York, the daughter of the late Daniel and Laura Janke Leverty. She was the wife of the late James V. Mauro. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Phelps Senior High School where she was salutatorian of her class.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gwen Drescher of Frederick, Md., and Mary Mauro of Marina, Calif.; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Mauro, Joshua Drescher, Zachary Drescher and Sarah Drescher; her brother, Robert Leverty; and sister, Betty Griffee.
She was preceded in death by a son, Brian J. Mauro; and brother, Daniel Leverty Jr.

Mildred M. Scherbyn

PHELPS - Mildred M. Scherbyn, 85, of County Road 6, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005 at Newark Manor Nursing Home.
Friends called Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 28 in St. Francis Church in Phelps. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery.
Mrs. Scherbyn was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Sodus, the daughter of the late Luis and Jennie DeCook VanParys, Mrs. Scherbyn lived in Newark until 1938, at which time she married Francis Scherbyn and moved to Phelps. She was the food service supervisor for 11 years at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic and went on to be the patient register secretary, a position she held for 10 years before retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Francis Church.
It is suggested that contributions be made to St. Francis Church, 12 Hibbard Ave., Clifton Springs 14432, the American Diabetes Association or Life Time Care, 1120 S. Main St., Newark, 14513.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marcia Adams Scherbyn of Phelps; granddaughter, Sharon Scherbyn of Phelps; grandson, David (Carole) Scherbyn of Phelps; daughter-in-law, Ilene Scherbyn of Canandaigua; grandchildren, Kevin (Sheri) Scherbyn of Phelps, Kristine (Peter) Taylor of Clifton Springs, Keith (Becky) Scherbyn of Canandaigua and Kathryn (Richard) Coffey Jr. of Clifton Springs; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis, who died in October 1977; and sons, Robert, who died in September 1995, and Paul, who died in May 2004.
