Robert J. "O.B." "The Camel" Obrist, 64, of 109 Emerson Ave., Syracuse, died Saturday. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from St. Patrick's High School and Le Moyne College. He retired in 1984 as a probation officer for Onondaga County after 15 years. He was a former president of the Civil Service Employees Association Local 834 and a former baseball coach at St. Patrick's High School. He was a member of The Old Rascals and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. His wife, Phyllis A., died in 1973. Survivors: Three daughters, Ellen M. Obrist and Martha A. Rowley, both of Syracuse, and Colleen M. Obrist of Alexandria, Va.; three sons, Robert P. of Arlington, Va., Thomas W. of Woodbridge, Va., and Matthew L. of Redondo Beach,  Calif.; two brothers, James of Syracuse and Brian of Orchard Park; six grandchildren. Services: 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Mary Ellen Pelletier, 53, of 517 Craigie St., Syracuse, died Sunday. Born in Canastota, she graduated from St. Vincent de Paul High School, Syracuse, Maria Regina College and the State University College at Brockport. She was a teacher for 30 years at Catholic schools, including St. James School, St. Charles of Borromeo School and Bishop Ludden High School. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. Survivors: Her parents, Matthew and Dorothy Harkins Pelletier of Syracuse; a friend, Susan Migon, with whom she lived; six sisters, Judith Hughes of Fayetteville, Kathy Villa of Brockport, Ann Dwyer of Fayetteville, Theresa Kingsley of Cazenovia, Joanne Fiacchi and Michelle Reale, both of Syracuse; three brothers, Paul, Mark and Patrick Pelletier, all of Syracuse. Services: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial, Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. Kristen Phillips, 19, of McGraw died Sunday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Born in Cortland, she attended Cortland schools. She was a certified nurse's aide at Northwoods Rehabilitation and Extended Care Facility. Survivors: A son, Dakota Phillips, at home; her father, Dale Phillips of McGraw; her mother, Sheila Phillips of McGraw; four sisters, Jessica Phillips of Tully, Teasha Fisk, Amanda and Stephanie Phillips, all of McGraw; two brothers, Dale and Devon Phillips, both of McGraw; her paternal grandfather, Gerald Phillips Sr.; her paternal great-grandmother, Ethel Crandall. Arthur T. Risteff

Arthur T. Risteff, 75, of East Syracuse died Saturday. He was a life resident of the Syracuse area. He worked at Zerrillo Gardens greenhouse for 15 years and at Keebler and Empire Metals many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served on the destroyer USS Everette S. Larson. A daughter, Jacqueline Sullivan, died in 2000. Survivors: His wife, the former Doruine LaFave; four daughters, Charline Kane of Wellesley Island, Larrietta  Jones of Bridgeport, Doruine Sullivan of Syracuse and Misty Risteff of North Syracuse; a son, Arthur of California; a sister, Elizabeth Schenosky of North Syracuse; a brother, Paul of Proctor, Vt.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services: 8 p.m. today at Delaney and Greabell Funeral Home. Burial, private. Calling hours, 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 241 Kinne St., East Syracuse. Joel S. Stephenson

Joel S. Stephenson, 85, of Seneca Street, Baldwinsville, died Monday. Born in Meridian, Miss., he lived in the Syracuse area since the mid-1950s. He retired in 1982 as a truck driver for Millbrook Bakery in Syracuse after 36 years. He was a member and former president of Canton  Woods Senior Center in Baldwinsville. Survivors: A stepdaughter, Donnah L. Brown of Liverpool; a stepson, David L. Stephenson of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, William A. of Las Vegas; his companion, Eleanor Gilbert; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Michael Bayus

Michael Bayus, 86, of Satellite Beach, Fla., died Sunday. Born in Auburn, he graduated from Auburn East High School and moved away in 1968. He was a former member of Highland Golf Club in Auburn. Among survivors: Two sisters, Julia and Dorothy Bayus, both of Auburn; three brothers, Dr. Victor, Albert and Frank, all of Auburn. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Farrell's Funeral Service. John M. Burdick

John M. Burdick, 67, of Bridgeport died Thursday. Born in Pennellville, he retired from Allied Chemical after 35 years and was a security guard for 13 years for the North Syracuse school district. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Bridgeport. Survivors: His wife of 45 years, the former Patricia Riano; two sons, Michael of Cicero and Thomas of Matthews, N.C.; a sister, Arlene Torrese of Homestead, Fla.; a brother, Nelson of Pennellville; four grandchildren. Clara Marcelli Cipriani, 89, formerly of 825 E. Willow St., Syracuse, died Monday at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre. Born in Italy, she lived in Syracuse 57 years. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and a member of its senior citizens group. Her husband, Phillip, died in 1976. Survivors: A daughter, Linda Chappell of North Syracuse; three sons, Phillip Cipriani of Syracuse and Angelo and Louis Felici, both of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Helen P. Daly, 78, of Trumansburg died Monday. Born in Wrightsville, Pa., she had also lived in Monroe and Syracuse before moving to Trumansburg in the early 1990s. She had worked for Avon Cosmetics in Suffern and was a communicant of St. James the Apostle Church in Trumansburg. She was an Army veteran of World War II. Her husband, Anthony, died in 1996. Survivors: A son, Michael J. of Liverpool; a daughter, Catherine D. Tuskey of Trumansburg; a sister, Josephine Meleen of Youngsville, Pa.; two brothers, Tony Pokosh of Erie, Pa., and Basil Pokosh of Corry, Pa.; four grandchildren. Nellie D. Colvin DeVaul, 90, of 364 Upper Lenox Ave., Oneida, died Monday. Born in Oneida, she attended Oneida schools. She was ward supervisor for the former Rome Developmental Center. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Oneida and Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Star Chapter 21. She was a former member of Belles 'n' Beaux Square Dance Club. She appeared on national television as a member of the Singing Grandmothers. Her husband, Curtis W., died in 1956. Survivors: Two daughters, Karen Leclau of Oneida and Linda Emig of Deansboro; a son, Jerome I. of Oneida; a sister, Irene Hubbard of Oneida; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Eileen M. Quinlan Epoch, 89, formerly of Gordon Avenue, Syracuse, died Tuesday at Loretto. Born in Syracuse, she graduated from a local business school. She worked for New Process Gear and as a telephone operator for Syracuse University for 15 years. She was a communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church and its Altar & Rosary Society. Her husband, Norman F., died in 1969. Survivors: A daughter, Marianne E. Harding of Guilford, Conn.; a son, Lawrence J. of Syracuse; a sister, Catherine Cadden of Syracuse; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Services: 8:45 a.m. Friday at Whelan Bros. Alfred "Al" Guzylak, 54, of Elmira died Sunday of cancer. Born in Germany, he lived in Auburn 24 years and graduated from Auburn Central High School. He worked for Travelers Insurance Co. and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors: His wife, the former Mary K. He worked for Catholic Charities for five years and had been a caterer for several years. He was an Eagle Scout. Matthew C. Helt

Matthew C. Helt, 72, of North Bay died Monday. Born in Higginsville, he attended Verona schools. He retired in 1992 as an engineer for Oneida Molded Plastics in Oneida. He was a founding member of American Air Museum in Great Britain, a member of the B-17 Supporters Club and a golden eagle sustaining member of the National Rifle Association. He was a former member of North Bay Fire Department and served in the Army Air Corps. Survivors: His wife of 48 years, the former Geraldine Griffing; a daughter, Julie Stapleton of North Bay; three sons, Mark of North Bay, Christopher of Brewerton, and Phillip of Spring Hill, Fla.; three sisters, Helen Helt of Oneida, June Griessen of North Bay and Nancy Russell of Vernon; a brother, Robert of El Cajon,  Calif.; eight grandchildren. Olga O. Laylon, 87, of Syracuse died Monday. Born in Torrington, Conn., she was a model for Lilly Dache Hats and Cody Cosmetic Co. in New York City for several years and taught reading at Bellevue Junior High School. She volunteered with the Syracuse Symphony. She helped write a book about her husband's career as an industrial designer. Her husband, Harry L., died in 1997. Survivors: A daughter, Anne de Bruin of Syracuse; a son, John P. of Springfield, Tenn.; a sister, Joan Nalband of Southbury, Conn.; two brothers, John Olear of  Washington Depot, Conn., and Philip Olear of Waterbury, Conn.; two grandchildren.
