Mildred E. "Nancy" Sawyer

PHELPS - Mildred E. "Nancy" Sawyer, 89, of 144 Main St., died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Geneva Living Center South.
There will be no prior calling hours. Friends attended a memorial service in the Cheney Funeral Home with the Monsignor Jerry Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery.
A memorial service was also held Wednesday at St. Ann's Home in Rochester, with the Monsignor Sullivan and Father Peter Bayer concelebrating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's Foundation, 1500 Portland Ave., Rochester 14621.
Mr. Waters was born March 16, 1916, in Clifton Springs, the son of the late Gottlieb and Jane Madden Walters and was a member of St. Felix Church. He loved music and played a variety of instruments. Mr. Walters also enjoyed fishing, especially fly fishing with handmade flies.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Kay (Terry) Wilson of Clifton Springs, Elizabeth (fiancee, Mark Arnold) Walters of Clifton Springs and Barbara (Timothy) DePaull of Webster, Monroe County; grandchildren, Jamie Jeremy and Thomas Wilson, Rebecca Walters and Annalise and Karlie DePaull; great-granddaughters, Taylor Elizabeth and Kali Kathryn Wilson; and a sister, Kay Goodman of Clifton Springs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, who died in November 2003; an infant daughter, Anne; and his sister, Gertrude Sullivan.

Leo D. Wheeler

GENEVA - Leo D. Wheeler, 70, of 2483 Carter Road, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Mary 2, 2006 in Geneva General Hospital.
Friends called Friday, May 5 at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services were Saturday, May 6 at The Presbyterian Church in Geneva. The Rev. W. James Gerling, pastor, officiated. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Geneva or to the Ontario ARC.
Leo was born in the town of Phelps, and had been a lifelong resident of this area. He was the son of the late Dewey and Carrie Goodman Wheeler. He served in the National Guard and for 39 years was the owner of Professional Carpet Cleaning Service and Sales. He was a member of the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce, the Oaks Corners Home Improvement Association, the Presbyterian Church in Geneva and a former member of the Geneva Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughter, Beth Ann (Dan) Lahr of Geneva; his son, Kraig S. (Treva) Wheeler of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Noah Thomas, Sarah Margaret, Caroline Murray and Audrie Marie; four sisters, Marjorie (Jerry) Haines of North Carolina, Dorothy (John) White of Chesapeake, Va., Diana (John) Acresti of Waterloo, and Freda (David) Mumford of Geneva; four brothers, Donald (Carol) Wheeler of Cazenovia, Frederick (Eleanor) Wheeler of Phelps, Roger (Joyce) Wheeler and Gary (Virginia) Wheeler, both of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Francis Wheeler; and sisters Elizabeth Drooby and Janet Simmons.

Grace Arnold

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Grace Arnold, 88, formerly of the Spa Apartments, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Clifton Springs Hospital Extended Care.
In keeping with her wishes, there were no calling hours.
Friends may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association, in Grace's memory.
Grace was born July 1, 1917, in Napoli, the daughter of the late William and Bertha Barnes. She taught school for many years in the Lyons School District. Grace will be missed by her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her children, William Arnold of Lyons, Bruce Arnold of Pine City, Mass., and Nancy Arnold of Norfolk, Mass.
She was predeceased by her husband, Avery, in 1987.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.

Thomas F. Crosby

FLINT - Thomas F. Crosby, 70, of Old Mill Road, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006.
Friends called Friday, May 19 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A funeral service was Saturday, May 20 at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva 14456.
Tom enjoyed tractor and farm shows and was a member of the New York state Steam Engine Association for many years. He also enjoyed the friends he had coffee with. Tom and his wife, Donna, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 3. He retired from Garlock Packing Company in Palmyra.
Tom is survived by his wife, Donna Breen Crosby; three sons, Gordon Crosby of Stanley, Robert (Kris Darling) Crosby of Clifton Springs, and Patrick Crosby of Phelps; one daughter, Patricia Crosby of Waynesboro, Pa.; five grandchildren, Robert, Natasha, Sarah, Elizabeth and Sierra; two great-grandsons, Ethan and Talon; two brothers, Theodore (Marge) Crosby and Robert Crosby, both of Phelps; one sister, Mary (John) Werner of Sodus; one sister-in-law, Jane Crosby of Phelps; one cousin, Henry McHale of Rochester; several nieces and nephews; his caregiver, Nicole Campbell Sapp; and his kitty, Missy.
He was predeceased by his brother, Jack, in 1991.

Robert Charles Galens

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Robert Charles Galens, 77, of 3160 Taylor Road, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.
Friends called Monday, May 22 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 23 at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Felix Church in Clifton Springs. Father Jeffrey Galens officiated. Burial is in St. Agnes cemetery.
It is suggested that contributions be made to the Lung Cancer Alliance, 888 16th Street NW, Suite 800, Washington D.C. 20006, in honor of his daughter Julie Wilson, or to the Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva 14456.
Mr. Galens was born May 14, 1929 in Hopewell, the son of the late John B. and Emma Maslyn Galens. He was a member of St. Felix Church and a member of the International Brick Layers Union #11. Mr. Galens was also a Navy Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Vine Galens; daughters, Elizabeth (Dr. Thomas) Dannals of Huntington, W. Va., Patricia (Chris) Howard of Phelps, Julie (Tim) Wilson of Lockport, sons, Peter (Lynn) Galens of Clifton Springs, and Father Jeffrey Galens of Rhinebeck, Dutchess County; grandchildren, Michele, Terra, Michael, Christy, Jeremy, Justin, Jason, Melissa, Andrew, Mary, Anna, and Christian; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Lauren, Hannah and Ethan; brothers, Charlie and Francis; sisters, Helen Crowley, Regina (Leo) Krolac and Rosie Galens; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paul E. Nicodemus Jr.

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Paul E. Nicodemus Jr., 83, of White Spruce Lane passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Clifton Springs Hospital Extended Care.
In keeping with his wishes, there were no calling hours. Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Paul was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Altoona, Pa., the son of the late Paul Sr. and Gertrude Nicodemus. He was retired from the Navy after 25 years of service. Paul had worked on the railroad in Rhode Island and later was a cook for the Naval Hospital in Newport, R.I. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve in Newport and loved to be on the road.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marion; children, David (Carol) Nicodemus of Newport, R.I., and Diane Bailey of Dundee; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.
He is predeceased by his sister, Louise McElhinney.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs.

Florence Pauline Sapp

LYONS - Florence Pauline Sapp, 73, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the DeMay Living Center.
There was a graveside service on Wednesday, May 17 in Elmwood cemetery, Route 14 N. in Lyons, with the Rev. Keith Henry officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Florence was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Shortsville, the daughter of Carlton and Mildred Wheeler Warner. She worked at Mobile Chemical Co. in Macedon, and was a former member of the Lyons American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sister, Pat Fabino of Glen Burnie, Md.; six nieces; three nephews; and good friend, Chuck Thyarks of Lyons.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Sapp; and companion, Shorty Hammond.

Dorothy Mundy Vandemortel

NEWARK/SODUS POINT - Dorothy "Dottie" Vandemortel, 78, of Sodus Point, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends called Thursday, May 18 at Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark. Funeral services for Dottie were held Friday, May 19 at the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. Burial was in Resthaven cemetery in Phelps.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Road, Lyons 14489; or to the Sodus Bay Historical Society, 7606 Ontario St., Sodus Point 14555.
Dorothy was born March 6, 1928, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of Edgar Perry and Alta Haight Hicks II. She grew up in Phelps. After graduating from Rochester Business Institute in 1946, Dottie moved to Newark. She was employed as a medical secretary for several dental and medical offices. She retired from the Wayne Ontario Library System in 1989. Dorothy was elected to the Newark School Board, serving six years. She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and the Sodus Bay Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband Eugene "Gene" Vandemortel; a daughter, Anne (Joseph) DeBlois of Baldwinsville twin sons, Edward (Jill) Mundy of Geneva and James (Mary) Mundy of Palmyra; four grandchildren, Aubree DeBlois, Jordyn, Kathryn and Jonathon Mundy; and a brother, Robert Hicks of Brockport.
She was predeceased by a brother, Edgar Perry Hicks III.

Leon Glen Wilkes

PHELPS - Leon Glen Wilkes, 79, died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at DeMay Living Center.
There was a graveside service on Saturday, May 20 in South Lyons cemetery, Lyons, with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Phelps Fire Dept. or Ambulance Co.
Leon was born Jan. 21, 1927, in the town of Galen, son of Albert and Ruth Bastian Wilkes. He had worked in the Commercial Building in Newark in his earlier years, and worked for many years at Sawyer Fuel in Newark, doing accounting and billing. He had a great interest in the Newark Co-Pilots baseball club and was a faithful fan of the team. He was a graduate of Phelps High School and Freeman Business School in Rochester. He grew up on the family farm and lived his entire life on the farm.
Leon is survived by his nieces, Marlene Jones and Linda Wilkes; nephews, Glen, Donald (Sherry), Roy (Joy), David (Hope), Morris, Tom, and Michael Wilkes, and their families.
He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy; brothers, Elmer, Clifford, and Albert; and nephew, Gary.

Carole Noaker

CANANDAIGUA - Carole Noaker, 48, of Seneca Drive, passed away Monday, May 22, 2006 at F.F. Thompson Hospital.
Friends called Thursday, May 25 at the Fuller Funeral Home in Canandaigua. A funeral service was Friday, May 26 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Mills cemetery in Honeoye.
Contributions may be made in her name to Hillside Children's Center, 1183 Monroe Ave., Rochester 14623; Camp Good Days and Special Times, 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Rd, Mendon 14506; or the Mary Cariola Children's Center, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Suite 100, Rochester 14620.
Carole was born March 10, 1958, in County Durham, England. She was employed by Lisk Coil Manufacturing Co. in Phelps. She loved playing British darts, NASCAR racing and anything with SpongeBob SquarePants on it. Although she had been "Americanized", she held true to her British cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin Noaker; daughter, Christina; a special daughter, Dana; and all her special friends at Lisk Coil in Phelps.
