Kusio, Richard W. - Richard W. Kusio, 29 of Port Gibson/North Tonowanda died July 19, 1998. Richard was born on October 11, 1968 in Newark. He spent his childhood and teen years on Faas Road in Palmyra. He attended Sunday School for 11 years at the Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Richard graduated in 1986 from Midlakes High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a 1990 graduate of Clarkson University, where he was honored as a presidential scholar. He was pursuing his masters degree in engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was employed by Praxair in Tonowanda, since 1990. Interment in Port Gibson cemetery. Richard is survived by his mother, Mary Kusio of Newark, his father, Ronald Kusio of Perry, a sister, Anne (Paul) Fordham of Clyde, his aunts, Louise M. Kusio of Warren, PA, and Janyne Tremaine of Lebanon, PA and many friends in Buffalo, Port Gibson and Newark.

Bushart, Jacob A. - Jacob A. Bushart, 89, died on July 19 at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. He was a retired supervisor of streets of the village of Sodus. A 55 year member of the Sodus Fire Company. Member of Sodus Masonic Lodge F & A.M. and the Wolcott Elks. Interment, Sodus Rural cemetery. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Zonneville) Bushart; brothers, Joe Bushart, Stanley (Isabelle) Bushart, both of Marion, Howard (Caroline) Bushart of East Williamson; sisters-in-law, Mary A. Bushart, Sarah Whipple, Elsie Kepple, all of Marion; brother-in-law, John (Katherine) DeVey of Ozark, MO; sister-inlaw, Nellie (John) Pizzutos of Penfield; several nieces and nephews.

Twist, Joan M. - Joan Twist died on Tuesday, July 21, 1998 at age 48. Survived by her son, John (Irene) Stephens of Canandaigua; 5 grandchildren, Troy Stephens, Vickie and Madeline Conners, Kristen and Katrine Dey; & a long time friend, Robert Briggs of Canandaigua also surviving are 8 brothers and sisters; William (Bev) Twist, Waterloo, Rose Palochick, Miami FL, Marlene Twist, Clifton Springs, CM "Joey" Twist, Macedon, Edith (Ray) Paone, Newark, Kathryn Twist, Clifton Springs, James (Dorothy) Twist, Seneca Falls, Thomas (Virginia) Twist, Ovid; several nieces and nephews.

Kooman, John J. - John J. Kooman, 84, of Marion, died July 24, 1998. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a retired Caves Lumber CO. employee. John and Bertha celebrated their 60th anniversary on April 7. John was a Rotarian, former Justice of the Peace, member of Marion Fire Dept. and the United Church. Interment Marion cemetery. Survived by his wife, Bertha M. Kooman; his daughter, Brenda E. Kooman of of Webster; son, John H. (Ellen) Kooman, Lewisburg, TN; 2 grandchildren, Lisa M. (Kenneth) Hayes of TN, Leslie M. Kooman of TN; great-granddaughter, Lindsey.

Melendez, Luis M. - Luis M. Melendez, 47, of South Main St., Newark, died July 20, 1998 at his home. Luis was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Feb. 25, 1951, a son of Pedro and Clotilde Munoz Melendez. He worked in the foundry in Geneva for many years. He is survived by his father, Pedro Melendez; two sisters, Maria Gonzalez and Julia Ortiz all of Newark; four brothers, Raymond of Geneva, Hector of Detroit, Rubin of Yonkers, Pedro Jr. of Jamestown; nieces and nephews. Interment in Newark cemetery. He was predeceased by his mother, Clotilde in 1998.

Kozinczak, Paulina - Paulina Kozinczak, 74, of Newark, died July 21, 1998. Interment in Nanuet, NY. She is survived by 2 sons, Florian (Pat) of New Hampshire and Mario (Ginny) of Lyons; sisters and brothers in Europe; 5 grandchildren; several cousins.

Wirth, Erika - Erika Wirth, 66 of Walworth, died July 22, 1998. Interment in the Marion cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Philip Wirth; her son, Reinhold(Carol) Wirth of Ballston Spa; 2 grandchildren, Alexander and Rebecca; a sister, Maria Enisz of Colorado.

Forjone, Charles A. - Charles A. (Chuck) Forjone, 60, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at home in Pittsburgh, PA. A New York native, Chuck lived in Pittsburgh for 13 years, working as a maintenance supervisor with S.E. Rykoff Food Company for the last three years. He moved to Pittsburgh from San Francisco, where he worked for Gallo Salami Company for 20 years. He was a member of the butchers union in San Francisco and enjoyed fishing coaching, bocce ball, swimming and camping. Chuck is survived by his wife of 18 years, Judy of Pittsburgh; daughters, Anastasia C. Forjone of Pittsburgh and Karen A. Smith of Newark; brothers, Larry and Ricky Forjone, both of Clyde, Ronald J. Forjone of South Butler, and Jock Forjone of Sodus; sisters, Donetta Ufholz, Georgette Taft and Theresa Forjone, all of Rose, Betty J. Simmons of Newark, Rose M. Leisenring of Sodus, Pamela Giannone of Royal Palm Beach, FL, and Cheryl Cole of Clyde.

Martens, Harriet R. - Harriet R. Martens, of Palmyra, died on July 13, 1998. Mrs. Martens was a graduate of Crouse-Irving Nursing School. She worked at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and was a substitute school nurse throughout Wayne County. She is survived by her husband, Raymond; son Jon (Betsy) Martens of Ithaca; daughters Cindy (Lee) Martens-Pitts of Avon, and Karen (Roger) Weaver of Palmyra; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joel, Bethany, Ryan and Mathew.

Hoad, James R. - James R. Hoad, 41, of Palmyra, died on July 14, 1998. He was a an employee of Mobil Chemical Company. Interment in East Palmyra cemetery. He is survived by his son and daughter, Matthew and Megan; his mother, Betty L. Hoad of Newark; brothers, David (Linda) of St. Cloud, FL, and Gene (Lori Martin) of East Palmyra; his grandfather, Elwood Hall of Newark; four nieces; a nephew; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Vincent C. Hoad.

Sidler, Margaret R. - Margaret R. Sidler of Macedon died unexpectedly on July 5, 1998. Interment in Macedon cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Edward Sidler; children, Deborah Lyke of Newark, Cheryl (Doug) Miller of Macedon, Richard (Donna) Case of Shortsville and Steward (Peggy) Case of Newark; 12 grandchildren: 7 great-grandchildren; sisters Louise Dilts, Elsie Barnhart, Betty Elliott, Mary Miller, June Moore and Sadie Carpernter.

Heinlein, Helen G. (Betty) - Helen G, (Betty) Heinlein, 79, of Peirson Ave., Newark died on July 2, 1998 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Heinlein was born June 7, 1919 in Greece, NY, the daughter of David and Ellen Walsh Gregg. For many years she operated the Unit Parts Store in Newark with her late husband Frank. She retired in 1986 from the Newark Developmental Center, where she had been a medical records clerk. Betty was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society. She had been an active member ofthe Newark-Wayne Community Hospital auxiliary and a volunteer for the Meal on Wheels program in Newark. Interment in the East Newark cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Ellen (Douglas) Werts of Gananda and Judy Adams of Canandaigua; four grandchildren and a brother James F. (Audrey) Gregg. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1988.

Thomas, Ocie - Ocie Thomas, 67, of W. Miller Street, Newark, died at the Wayne County Nursing Home on July 1. Interment will be in Sodus Rural cemetery. He is survived by many friends in the Lyons and Newark areas.

Bailey, Lawrence Keith - Lawrence Keith Bailey, 52, of Maple Ridge Road, Newark died on July 2, 1998 at Via Health of Wayne-Newark. Mr. Bailey was born in Penn Yan on February 16, 1946, son of Frank and Margaret Kirby Bailey. He had the franchise for H&R Block in Lyons, Wolcott and Clyde, and worked for Shur-Fine store in Marion. Mr. Bailey was a member of Fairville Fire Department, Lyons Elks Lodge 869, and was an assistant coach for the Little League Phillies in Newark. He attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church and Lyons United Methodist Church. Interment in Brookside cemetery, Geneva. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Colette Webb Bailey; two sons, Brian A. Bailey of Newark and Lawrence K. Bailey II of Newark; stepson, Christopher Simmons of Newark; daughter, Jacquelyn A. Collins of Lyons; four grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Bailey of Geneva, Harold Bailey of Dresden; sister, Ethel DeCook of Romulus; nieces and nephews.

Johnston, George F. - George F. "Boxer" Johnston, 69, of Gibson Street, Canandaigua, died July 1, 1998 at his home. Mr. Johnston was born in Canandaigua, the son of George F. and Irene (Greer) Johnston, and was a lifelong resident. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Johnston was a member of the Canandaigua Elks Club for 35 years, the Newark VFW, the American Legion Post #256 and the Mutual Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Company. He was a past president of the Boathouse Owner's Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Johnston retired in 1991 from the IBEW Local Union #840 in Geneva, where he had been an electrician. Interment in Woodlawn cemetery. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Tillie" (Townsend); daughter, Beth Marie Johnston; sister, Alma Simmons of Canandaigua; several nieces and nephews.

Demay, Mabel - Mabel Demay, 86, of Palmyra, died July 7, 1998. Interment in Palmyra cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Elden Demay. She is survived by her children, Flora (Samuel) Straight, Doris Boyd, Roger (Dorothy) Demay, David (Betty) Demay; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Doris Hapke, Helen Demay; sisters-in-law, Edith (William) Deys, Edith Demay; several nieces and nephews.

Dean, Betty L. - Betty L. Dean, 76, died July 7, 1998 at her home in Marion. She was retired from Mobil Chemical. Interment in West Walworth cemetery. She is survived by four daughters, Penny (Donald) Magde of Marion, Diane (Ed) Miller of Shortsville, Virginia (Wayne) Contant of Newark and Tina (Jesse) Prestofilipo of Farmington; five sons, Charles of Marion, David (Sue) of Irondequoit, Richard of Macedon, Robert (Cheryl) of Lyons and Tom of Marion; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Turner of Red Creek. She was predeceased by a daughter, Yvonne Dean, and by her husband, Albert Dean.

Macaluso, Mark M. - Mark M. Macaluso died on December 25, 1998. Interment in Marion cemetery. Mark is survived by his wife, Valerie Macaluso; four children, Drew, Katrina, Nathaniel and Daniel; parents, Michael and Dorothy Macaluso; brothers and sisters: Donna (Jim) Gould, Marion (Alan) Glaser, Paul Macaluso, Laura (Michael) Zawacki, John (Amy) Macaluso, Leslie (Peter) Mills, Steven (Anne) Macaluso, Diane (Brian) Abel and Andrea (Kris) Schofield; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas.

Spence, Frances L. - Frances L. Spence, 85, of Bristol Harbour, Canandaigua, died on December 26, 1998 at Thompson Hospital. Frances was a graduate of Geneseo State Teachers College and Teachers College at Columbia University, where she received her bachelor's degree. She taught school for 34 years in places like Gorham, Lyons and Newark. She also taught at a dependent school in Madrid, Spain and Wiesbaden, Germany. Frances was an associate professor at Oswego State University. She also was a member of the Starkey Methodist Church. She belonged to the Retired Teacher's Association of Yates County. Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Dundee. Frances was predeceased by her husband Byron Spence. She is survived by sister, Dorothy LaFever of Starkey; two brothers, Donald Disbrow of Maryland, Thomas of Dundee; two step-children, Katherine Bixby of Chicago and Thomas Spence of Hyde Park, NY; six step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Laurette, Harold F. - Harold F. Laurette of Sodus, age 73, died at the Wayne County Nursing Home on December 27, 1998. Interment in East Palmyra cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughter, Carol Laurette, MI: three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Voigt of Lyons and Mildred (William) Tinklepaugh of Sodus; brother, Peter (Lucy) Laurette of Newark; nieces and nephews.

Carmer, Dr. Myron E. - Myron E. Carmer, MD, 81, of Lyons, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Dr. Carmer had once owned and operated the E. J. Barber Hospital in Lyons. He retired from practice in 1980. Carmer's father, John Carmer, also a doctor, had at one time, owned the Doctors Hospital on West Miller St., Newark. Dr. Carmer was educated at Hamilton College and Columbia University. He served in the Navy during World War II. Wayne County residents had a high regard for Dr. Carmer, who was a former President of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce, and former member of the Board of Directors of The Lyons National Bank. Survivors include his wife Ruth; daughter, Mrs. Peter (Nancy) Doubleday of Southern Pines, NC; son, James, of Lincoln, NE, and two grandchildren.

Stapleton, Lucille Roesch - Lucille Roesch Stapleton, 96, of Armstrong Living Center, Newark, formerly of Geneva, died December 16, 1998 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark. Mrs. Stapleton was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 6, 1902, and raised in Jenkintown, PA. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Economics from the College Rochelle in 1925 and a Master of Arts degree in History from New York State University in 1928. She taught in the New York City Public School system until her marriage to Richard T. Stapleton in 1935 brought her to Geneva. Mrs. Stapleton taught in the Geneva City School system and area schools for 22 years, 17 years of which were with the Mathematics Department at the Geneva Junior High School. She has been a member of St. Francis DeSales Church in Geneva and its Rosary Society. For the past three years, she had been a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Newark. She was a member of the National Retired Teacher's Association, the NYS Retired Teachers Association, and the Ontario County Retired Teacher's Association. She had been a member of the Geneva Historical Society, the League of Women Voters, and the College Club of Geneva. Interment in St. Mary's cemetery, Geneva. She is survived by 15 nieces and nephews, including Bernadette D'Amico of Geneva, Edith Miller, Sherry DeRuyter, Stephen Mooney, Kevin Mooney, all of Newark, and Clifford Mooney of New Jersey. Also surviving are 22 grand-nieces and nephews and fifteen great-grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Richard T. Stapleton in 1986, a sister Phelomena Mooney and two brothers Edgar and Alfred Roesch.
