Corteville, Virginia I. (Chandler) - Virginia I. (Chandler) Corteville, 71, died at her home in Williamson on October 6, 1998. She was a retiree from BOCES of Flint, a member of the East Williamson Free Methodist Church and a faithful volunteer to Myers Community Hospital, Sodus, Newark Wayne Community Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Gordon W. Corteville; daughters, Yvonne (Jon) Forget of Williamson, Nancy (Mark) Malchoff of Sodus; son, Thomas (Georgia) Corteville of Williamson; 13 grandchildren; sister, Irma (Louis) Vigilino of Rochester; brothers, John (Freida) Chandler of Boynton Beach, FL, Karl (Anna) Chandler of Newark; brothers-in-law Stanley Joeckel of Vero Beach, FL and Elwood Peck of FL; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Brigham, Marlea I. - Marlea I. Brigham, 86, died suddenly December 31, 1998. She moved from the Palmyra-Macedon area to Honeoye Falls where she resided at the home of her daughter, Helen. Mrs. Brigham was active in Eureka Chapter #209 for over 50 years and served as Wayne District Deputy Grand Matron and Commissioner of Appeals for the State of New York. She also was a member of the Macedon First Baptist Church and served as president of the Fairport Baptist Home Women's Service Board. She was active in Senior Citizens and the First Presbyterian Church of Honeoye Falls. She received the honor of Senior Citizen of the Year in 1997. She was an RN and certified SNT and served in her husband's practice, and also at F.F.Thompson Hospital and with the Newark School District for a period of over 10 years before retirement. Marlea was predeceased by her husband, Dr. R. Carl Brigham, a physician in Macedon for over 40 years. He died in 1983. She is survived by three daughters, Sharlene (Howard) Jordan of Palmyra, Marilyn (Carl) Chase of Canisteo, and Helen Payne (William) of Honeoye Falls; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Morrison, Irene K. - Irene K. Morrison, 89, of Palmyra, died Dec. 30, 1998. Interment in the Palmyra cemetery. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (David) Miller; two grandchildren, Michelle & Meredith Miller; nephews, Ralph (Helen) Kommer, Eugene (Nancy) DeNagel; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wahl, Timothy John - Timothy John Wahl, 35, of Palmyra, formerly of Sodus, died suddenly on Dec. 30, 1998. Interment in Sodus Rural cemetery. He is survived by son, Jeremy of Palmyra; his mother, Hazel Wahl of Sodus; two sisters, Susan (Ed) Phillips of Newark and Carolyn Wahl of Sodus; brother, David (Marcia) of Sodus; sister-in-law, Margaret Wahl of Wolcott; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Floyd R. Wahl and brother, Bruce Wahl.

Delmastro, Angelo - Angelo Delmastro, 74, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, formerly of Newark, died Dec. 30, 1998 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Angelo was born in Italy on Oct. 23, 1924, the son of John and Theresa Toti Delmastro. He was a science teacher in Toronto, where he also taught biology and chemistry for over 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Palmyra and the Italian American Lodge in Geneva. For many years he played clarinet in a band. Interment Newark cemetery. He is survived by two sisters, Elvia Costello of Webster and Antoinette Brigidi of Buffalo; three nieces, Lucille Brewster, Carol (Walt) Zehder and Rita (Glenn) Creel; five grandnieces and nephews and several cousins.

Mertz, Clara L. - Clara L. Mertz died December 30, 1998 at age 102 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Clara was an avid gardener and loved to bake and cook. She was a member of the Western Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Ontario-Wayne Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., Palmyra and Macedon Sr. Citizens. She is survived by her sister, Martha A. Mertz; nephews, Clifford Mertz, Donald (Beverly) Mertz, both of Palmyra; niece, Mrs. Hubert Siler of Newark.

Marsteiner, Mary - Mary Marsteiner, 81, of Hudson, FL, formerly of Lyons, died Dec. 30, 1998, at Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point, Florida. Mrs. Marsteiner was born in Sodus. She retired and moved to Florida 20 years ago with her husband, Irving. She was retired from Sarah Coventry in Newark, where she was a jewelry production employee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson and past president of the Hudson Community Club. She is survived by her husband, Irving; three sons, James of Smyrna, TN, Edward of Lyons, and Ronald of Sodus; daughter, Donna Sergisson of Newark; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Theorides, Stella - Stella Theodorides died on December 29, 1998. She and husband Harry owned the Marion Candy Kitchen from 1915 to 1956. Entombment at White Haven. She was predeceased by her husband; survived by her nephew, James Cooros of Fairport; niece, Madeline Hines of SC; great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Lada, Edmund S. - Edmund S. Lada, 87, died January 23, 1999 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mr. Lada was born September 1, 1911 in Rochester. He was a factory worker for Eastman Kodak Co. when he retired in 1973. He was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church, Newark Elks Lodge #1249 and was a charter member of the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department, since 1956. Spring interment in Fairville cemetery. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Denise Lada of Newark; daughter and son-in-law Desiree and William Benet of Rochester; grandson Michael Lada; brother Anthony Lada of Macedon; sisters Martha Zielinski and Agnes Konieczny both of Rochester. His wife Dorothy Aab Lada predeceased Mr. Lada on June 5, 1990.

Haskins, Paul Frederick - Paul Frederick Haskins, 84, of Union Street, Westfield, New York died Jan. 4, 1999 at St. Vincent Health Care Center in Erie, PA. Mr. Haskins was born February 27, 1914 in Marion to Frederick Edward and Katherine (Van Lare) Haskins. He graduated from Marion High School in June 1934. He was a customer equipment service man for the American Can Company in Geneva. He retired in 1974. He married Caroline Brundige on July 5, 1938 in Ontario. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, NY where he served as a Trustee and was active in the building committee. He was a member of the Schrine Ismailia Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Buffalo, Marion Lodge No. 926 of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Valley of Jamestown Chapter Consistory and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #118 in Westfield. Interment will be in Marion cemetery. Survivors include a daughter Margaret Jacobs of St. Peters, Missouri; son Robert F. Haskins of Palatine, Illinois; grandchildren David and Daniel Haskins, Robert, Lisa and Heather Jacobs; brother Vincent Arthur Haskins; sisters, Rachel Katherine Drave and Esther Naomi Haskins. He was predeceased by David Haskins and Caroline "Connie" Haskins.

Woolworth, Hilda M. - Hilda M. Woolworth, 76, of Newark, died Jan. 22, 1999 at the County Nursing Home, Lyons. Interment in Sodus Rural cemetery. Hilda is survived by two sisters, Harriet Miner of Sodus and Lela (Ralph) Langdon of Lock Berlin; brother, James (Gwen) Woolworth of Sodus; several nieces and nephews.

Austin, Anita Lynch - Anita Lynch Austin, 65, of Palmyra, died January 23, 1999 in Clifton Springs Hospital. Anita was born in Macedon on December 10, 1933 to Lloyd and Mildred Lynch. She married E. Francis Austin in November 1956. A lifelong member of Palmyra, she was active in church and community service. She taught English at Pal-Mac High School for many years. Anita is survived by her sons, Aaron (Kelley) Austin of Palmyra and Adam of California; daughters, Amy (David) Schade of Massachusetts and Annaliese (Scott) Parker of Macedon; grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Austin, Caley Austin, Peter, Alyssa and Benjamin Schade, Jeremy and Joshua Parker; sisters, Mary Jane Bogart, Lynda (Ned) Nation, Sally Lynch, all of Palmyra and Katherine (Alex) Scotti of NJ; uncles, Vincent and William Lynch of Palmyra; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Francis Austin and son, Lloyd Andrew Austin.

Smith, Laurence Joseph - Laurence Joseph Smith, 44, of Newark, died Sunday, January 24, 1999. Laurence was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 13, 1955, the son of Laurence J. and Elizabeth Ebinger Smith. He had lived in Rochester and worked for the Coca Cola Co. Interment in Port Gibson cemetery. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Joseph of Newark; brother, Joseph Lombardi of Newark; sister, Connie Smith of Port Gibson; nieces and nephews, including Todd Lombardi; aunts and uncles; best friends, James Rodak, Scott Speers, and Dave Brown. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Arthur Joseph, and a sister, Tina Lombardi.

Bush, Marie Brockhuizen - Marie Brockhuizen Bush, 72, died January 11, 1999. Marie was born in Holland, the daughter of Herman and Adriana Brockhuizen. She was a long time employee of the First National Bank, in Marion, member of the United Church of Marion, Women of the Moose, Palmyra. She was active in the Conservative Party in Wayne County, of which she was chairman. Interment in Marion cemetery. She was the widow of Sanford C. Bush, who died in 1989. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Howard (Paula) Bush of Richmond, VA, Richard (Catherine) Bush of Canandaigua, Robert Bush of Penfield; 4 grandchildren, Jamie, Jeffery Bush of Richmond, VA, Ashley and Nathan Bush of Canandaigua; 4 brothers, Thomas (Mabel), Herman (Patricia), Edward, Robert (Deanna) Brockhuizen, 3 sisters, Cora (Kenneth) Graham, Minnie VanKouwenberg, Ann (Harlan) Tyler; several nieces and nephews.

Giesy, Marian G. - Marian G. Giesy, 88, died Jan. 24, 1999 at her Newark home. She was born in the Town of Arcadia, January 25, 1910, to John and Mary Norris Engels. She worked for more than 30 years as a nurse at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Surviving are a son, Lewis (Wilma) Giesy of Palmyra; daughter, Joan (Edward) Marriott of Lyons; granddaughters, Lauri Shevlin of Webster, Lisa Wissick of Palmyra, Michelle Fries of Marion, Kelli Tarkowski of NJ; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Willard of HI and Mildred Lundy of FL; sister-in-law, Amelia Engels of Lyons; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ivan in 1979; a son Alan, and two brothers.

Zazzara, Louise A. -Louise A. Zazzara, 81, died Tuesday, January 26, 1999 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. Louise was born the daughter of Fred and Flora Sigafoni Janto, on December 12, 1917 in Clyde. She was a member of St. Michael Church in Newark. Spring interment in South Lyons cemetery. Mrs. Zazzara was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1983. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, including Marian Chetney of Manchester, Betty (Marvin) Reese of Rochester and Sandra (Ray) Dyer of North Carolina; special friends Mary Jane Smith and Art Williams.

Vanderlinde, Emily K. - Emily K. Vanderline, 74, of Fish Farm Rd., Sodus died January 27, 1999 at the DeMay Living Center, Newark. Mrs. Vanderlinde was born in Marion on November 6, 1924, the daughter of Augustus and Nellie DeNering Vercrouse. She was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church and the Fairville Fire Department Auxiliary. She had worked for Hanover Distributors of Sarah Coventry in Newark for 13 years. Survivors include her husband, David; daughter Linda (Randall) Rider of Clifton Springs; four grandchildren Timothy Vanderlinde, Jeremy Vanderlinde, Matthew Rider and Crystal Rider; two great-grandchildren Jacob and Mara Vanderlinde; two sisters, Charlene (Jacob) Frank of Lyons and Dorothy (William) Poole of Phelps; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Larry Vanderlinde in 1984 and brother Richard Vercrouse in 1972. Interment in Fairville cemetery.

Persyns, Nellie P. - Nellie P. Persyns, 77, of Palmyra, died January 11, 1999. She was a member of Daughters of St. Anne, and James R. Hickey Post 120 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Julius; children, Julie (Stephen) Kuhn, Bradley Persyns; son-in-law Russel Goebert; grandchildren, Janine (Acy) Buckland, Theresa (Bob) Havrilla, Christopher (Kelly) Goebert, Scott Allen, Ryan (Shelly) Allen, Eric (Diane) Persyns, Laura Persyns, Jeremiah Persyns; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Sapp, Billie Sue - Billie Sue Sapp, 71, of Welcher Road, Newark died Jan. 15, 1999, at Rochester General Hospital. Mrs. Sapp was born in Prestonburg, Kentucky on Sept. 7, 1927. The daughter of Charlie and Polly Prader Osborne worked at Edgett and Burnham Co., and Seneca Foods in Marion. She was a member of the Church of God in Newark. Spring interment in Fairville cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fred Sr.; son, Fred Jr. (Nancy) of Macedon; a grandson and great-grandson; five sisters; a brother; nieces and nephews.

Frownfelter, Willamee Y. - Willamee Y. Frownfelter, 85, of Driving Park Avenue, Newark died Jan. 16, 1999, at ViaHealth of Wayne. Willamee was born in Wilmington, NC on Mar. 27, 1913 to George and Grace Brington Yeagle. She was a stenographer for the S. Williamsport Hospital and was a member of New Hope Bible Church. Interment in Green Lawn Memorial Park, S. Williamsport, PA. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, George A.; two nieces, Sally (Dale) Ackerman of Locke, and Cynthia (Carl) Ball of Brooktowndale.

Albertson, Leonora (Betty) - Leonora (Betty) Albertson, 77, died January 17, 1999 after a brief struggle with cancer. After 35 years of teaching, Betty retired from Marion Central School District. In her retirement, Betty enjoyed traveling. She continued as a tatting instructor throughout the U.S. She is survived by her children: Pam Derbyshire, Derry (Molly) Jackson, Ann Luise (Andy) Steensma, Luci (Chris) Hadlock; 8 grandchildren; companion, George Schwallie.

Salerno, James S. - James S. Salerno, 94, died Jan. 18, 1999 at DeMay Living Center, Newark. He was born in Clyde on Sept. 18, 1904, to Santo and Angelina Salerno. He was a farmer, employed by Mitchell Farms of North Rose. Spring interment in Huron Evergreen cemetery. Surviving are his wife Elsie (Crocker) Salerno of Lyons; his children, Patricia (Leon) Fox of Rose, Vincent (Mahoto) Salerno of Rose, Joseph (Wilma) Salerno of Clyde, Joanne (George) Dehm of Wolcott, Nancy Foro, of Ohio, Anthony Salerno of Watertown, Donna (Thomas) Wilcox of Cheektowaga, Doris Pentycofe of Newark, Pearl (Robert) Pentycofe of Sodus, Betty Bennett of McGraw, Laura Riggs of Lyons, Jean (Charles) Lindstrom of Newark, Gary Campbell of Wolcott, Linda (Leslie) Powell of Wolcott; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Peter Salerno of Clyde; and sister, Tina Montemorano of Clyde. Predeceased by James Salerno and Lewis Campbell.
