Kline, Diane L. - Diane L. Kline, 53, of North Main St., Newark died March 25, 1999 at the ViaHealth - Newark Campus. Diane was born September 27, 1945 in Seneca Falls to William and Eleanor Bennett VanCleef. She had worked for Jamesway and Woolworth's in Newark. Diane was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the VFW Post 2883 Auxiliary and American War Dads Post 286 Auxiliary, both in Newark, and American Legion Post 457 Auxiliary in Phelps. Interment in East Newark cemetery. Diane is survived by her husband of 33 years Duane Kline; two sons, SSGT Derrick (Tina) Kline and PFC Darrin Kline; daughter Melissa Kline; grandchildren Molly, Alyssa, Matthew, Joshua, Brittany, Michael and Caleb; her mother Eleanor VanCleef of Newark; brothers Martin (Sharon) VanCleef of Clifton Springs, Gail (Linda) VanCleef of Newark, William (Judy) VanCleef of Florida and Clinton VanCleef of Ontario; sister Eleanor Updyke of Seneca Falls; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Her father William predeceased her.

Chatfield, Laverne K. - Laverne K. Chatfield, 77, of Marbletown Rd, died March 25, 1999 at his home. Mr. Chatfield was born in Wolcott on March 30, 1921, the son of Jesse and Elizabeth Chatfield. He was a supervisor at the Newark Developmental Center, retiring in 1976. Laverne was a member of the New York Central Hose Company #5 of the Newark Fire Dept. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theater. He is survived by his wife Edna, a son Raymond (Linda) Chatfield of Rochester, a granddaughter Kira and grandson Adam Chatfield. Also surviving are three brothers, Donald 'Pete' of Newark, James of Wolcott, Charles of Rochester, four sisters Sarah "Judy" Marsh, Florence Harrison both of Wolcott, Mary Ambrosiano of Red Creek, Joyce Royce of Huron; several nieces and nephews.

Patric, Ann - Ann Patric, 68, of Marion, died March 26, 1999. She was predeceased by her husband, George Patric. She is survived by four sons: Michael (Patti) of Farmington, Daniel of Farmington, David (Lori) of Webster and William (Dawn) of Massachusetts; five grandchildren; sister, Alice (Robert) Brandt, of Ohio.

Matthys, Cora M. - Cora M. Matthys, 83, formerly of the Rose Garden Apartments, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at ViaHealth - Newark Campus. Cora was born the daughter of Marinus and Sarah Steurrys VanDeVelde, on April 19, 1915, in Marion. She retired from Hanover Corp. in Newark, where she was employed as an inspector. She was a 30-year member of the American Legion Post 286 Auxiliary in Newark. Interment in Newark cemetery. Mrs. Matthys is survived by her sons: Richard Matthys of Newark and Donald (Erika) Matthys of Virginia; daughters, Shirley (Kenneth) Warner and Dorothy Furman, both of Newark; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; her brother, Marinus (Doris) VanDeVelde Jr. of Marion; and sister-in-law, Elsie Morgan of Sodus.

Van Parys, Marie E. - Marie E. Van Parys, 92, of Atwater Street, died March 24, 1999, in Fort Pierce, FL. Mrs. Van Parys was born Feb. 17, 1907, in Belgium, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Landuyt Vandenbussche. She had worked at the Newark Developmental Center for many years, retiring in 1972. She was also a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Interment in Port Gibson cemetery.She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Homer) Smith of Palmyra; five sons, Hank (Betty Mae) of Red Hook, Roger (Barbara) of Citrus Heights, CA, Harold "Ike" (Dorothy) of Pultneyville, Joseph (Shirley) of Scottsdale, AR, and Louis (Marge) of Venezuela; 30 grandchildren; many, many great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard Vandenbussche of Newark; and sister, Agnes Diestel of Westbury, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Van Parys who died May 26, 1991.

McCarthy, Zackary M. - Zackary M. McCarthy, 12, of North Main Street, Savannah, died suddenly on Wednesday, March 24, 1999. Zackary was a 6th grade student at the Clyde-Savannah. He was also a member of the Wolcott Presbyterian Church Youth Group. Interment in the Wells cemetery, Little Genesee, NY. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Linda and Scott Haines of Savannah; father and stepmother, Richard and Rae Lynn McCarthy of Bergen; sister, Holly; three brothers, Andrew, Daniel and Nathaniel; grandparents, Richard and Beverly Monroe of Bolivar; Lawrence P. and Jo Ann McCarthy of Hornell; Elton L. and Charlotte Haines of Portville; and Raymond and Kathleen Johnson of Allegany; special aunt and uncle, Sara and Jeff Shields of Savannah; aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Lyons Police Dept. D.A.R.E. Program, 72 William St., Lyons 14489, the Wayne County Sheriff's D.A.R.E. Program, Lyons 14489, or to the Wolcott Presbyterian Church, West Main Street, Wolcott 14590.

DeRue, Carrie J. - Carrie DeRue, 90, of E. Miller Street, Newark, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Via Health of Wayne, Newark. Carrie was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Ontario, the daughter of Abraham and Josie Gysels Sanders. She retired in 1973 from C.H. Stuart Company of Newark. She had also worked at Jackson & Perkins Company for 15 years. Interment in Fairville cemetery. She is survived by daughter, Mrs. James (Janet) Heald of Newark; son, Gerald (Mary) DeRue of Newark; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Marinus in 1968; brothers, Isaac and Wilford Sanders; a sister, Jennie Michealson, and a granddaughter, Michelle DeRue in 1998.

Kuhle, Rose Zarola - Rose Zarola Kuhle, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in Lancaster, California. Services were held March 24 in Lancaster, CA. She is survived by her children: MaryAnn, Thomas, Paula, William, James (Jinell), Kenneth (Jarrina); grandsons Jeremy, Jordan, David, and Nathan; mother, Anna Zarola Mozgowiec; sisters, Veneranda Hannon, Mary (Dick) Kahl; brother, John Zarola; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Juiseppe Zarola and husband Stanley.

Derks, Arthur - Arthur Derks, 85, of Marion, died March 31, 1999. He was retired from Garlock. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Daryl) Corteville of Palmyra, Linda (Mark) Haskins of Marion; two sons, Fred (Patricia) Derks of Rochester, David (Donna) Derks of Penfield; dear friend, Anne Dierks; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Derks of Webster; three sisters, Marjorie (Peter) Yaskow of Williamson, Josephine Montondo of Sodus, Irene Greene of Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Jeff DeLyser Memorial Award, c/o Marion Central School.

Hoffman, Mylo - Mylo H. Hoffman, 89, of Williamson, died September 30, 1999. He had owned and managed Mylo's Arco Station and was a member of the Williamson Odd Fellows. Interment in Marion cemetery. He is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Donald and De Hoffman of Williamson; grandchildren, Debora (Lynn) Warney, Daryl (Michele) Hoffman; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene (Fred) Manktelow of Marion; sister-in-law, Elsie Morgan; brothers-in-law, Renee (Doris) VanDeVelde, Chester Fisher, Peter Yaskow; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susie (VanDeVelde) Hoffman.

Keukelaar, Eva - Eva M. (Plyter) Keukelaar, 93, of Marion, died September 29, 1999. Interment in Marion cemetery. She as the widow of Peter J. Keukelaar. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Hugh) Thorne of Newark; grandchildren, Sally Thorne, Karen (Pedro) Rivera, Gail (Joe) Schaar; great-granddaughter, Diana, all of Newark; sister, Blanche Leenhouts of Newark; sister-in-law, Nellie DeBlare of Florida; nieces and nephews.

Palladino, Jim - Jim Palladino, 49, of Seneca Falls, formerly of Lyons, died Sept. 23, 1999 in Geneva General Hospital. Mr. Palladino was born Jan. 24, 1950, in Lyons, son of Louis and Genevieve Buss Palladino. He was owner of Cayuga General Store in Seneca Falls for 19 years and Pro Sound Video DJ for 14 years. Interment in Spring Brook cemetery, Seneca Falls. He is survived by his wife, Susan M. Palladino; two sons, Jason Palladino, Tony Palladino; daughter, Lisa Palladino, all of Seneca Falls; his mother and stepfather, Genevieve and Glen Giesy of Port Gibson; brothers, Richard Palladino of Rochester, Ronald Palladino of Romulus; three sisters, Linda Bryant of Newark, Helena Tyler of Lyons, Debbie Parmerini of Chittenango; several nieces and nephews.

Bowman, Edith May - Edith May Bowman, 95, of Newark, died Sept. 24, 1999 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mrs. Bowman was born February 22, 1904, in Junius, to Frederick and Sarah Olin Smith. She was the widow of J. Howard Bowman, who died in March 1968. Interment at the Southwick cemetery in Junius. She is survived by her two daughters, Betty J. Bowman of Mountain View, CA, and Gerry Bowman of Stanford, CA; two sisters, Pearl Pistillie of Anaheim, CA and Lois Zemanck of Johnston, NY; nieces and nephews.

Magde, Stanley B. - Stanley B. Magde, 82, of Marion, died Sept. 22, 1999. Stanley was a WWII Veteran and a member and past commander of the Marion American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Webster. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park. He is survived by Evelyn (Schleuse) Magde, his wife of 56 years; sons, Ronald (Diane) Magde, Donald (Penny) Magde, Robbie (Patricia) Magde, all of Marion; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Anne Peacock of Rochester; nieces and nephews.

Havert, Martha B. - Martha B. Havert, 98, of Port Gibson/ Newark, died September 27, 1999. She was born the daughter of Andrew and Antje Kroetje Bruinsma on September 22, 1901 in Paterson, New Jersey. She was a devoted wife and mother and a member of the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church. Interment in East Palmyra cemetery. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Ruth and William VanOoyen of East Palmyra; grandchildren, Karen (AC) Ophoff of Michigan, Daniel (Donnie) VanOoyen of Dansville and Eric (Nancy) VanOoyen of Newark; great-grandchildren Philip, Adam and Katie Ophoff; Laurie Beukelaar and Daniel VanOoyen II, Kristin, Matthew and Stacey VanOoyen; sister, Rachel Frelier of Penfield; brothers, Peter and Walter (Virginia) Bruinsma both of Rochester; sister-in-law Trina Bruinsma of Ontario, NY; several nieces and nephews, She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Philip Havert in 1979.

Gansz, Duane Everett - Duane Everett Gansz, 61, of Lyons, died suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999 at his home. Duane was born April 25, 1938, in Lyons, the son of Archibald and Helen Beal Gansz. He was the owner of Gansz Auction & Realty in Lyons. Duane was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM 406, the Lyons Rotary Club, the past director of the Newark-Wayne Hospital, the director of the Lyons National Bank, an honorary auctioneer of Ducks Unlimited, a member and past president, director, secretary/treasurer of the NYS Auctioneers Association, was named auctioneer of the year and was inducted into the auctioneer hall of fame. He is survived by his wife, Edythe of Lyons; children, David E. (Laura) Gansz of Greece, Susan M. (Thomas) Clark of Florida, Ross A. (Michaele) Gansz of Lyons and Erica T. Gansz of Lyons; grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett Clark, JonRoss Gansz and Drew Everett Gansz; three brothers, Myron (Edna) Gansz, Edward (Chris) Gansz and Thomas (Jeanette) Gansz, all of Lyons; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Helen Gansz in 1986.

Alexander, Mae C. - Mae C. Alexander of Newark, 94, died Tuesday, September 28, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Alexander was born Sept. 10, 1905, in Victory, NY, the daughter of Ira and Gertrude Jones Cooper. She was an executive secretary for Jackson & Perkins Co. in the research and publicity department, retiring in 1967 with 38 years of service. She was a member of the Newark-Wayne Hospital Auxiliary, past noble - grand of the Silver Link Rebekah Lodge 230, the Wayne County Historical Society, and the Union Church in Cato. Interment in Newark cemetery. She is survived by several nieces and a nephew; and good friends, Marian Monje, Mary Jane Smith and Ed and Kathleen Lootens. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert M. Alexander on Jan. 12, 1986.

Morse, Edwin S. - Edwin 'Ed' Stratton Morse of Lyons, 67, died September 28, 1999 after a brief illness. Interment will be at East Newark cemetery.

Watts, Lola D. - Lola D. Watts, 79, of Newark, died September 28, 1999. Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery in Penfield. She is survived by her children, Patricia DiRienzo, June Watts, Jerry (Cheryl) Watts, Jacqueline Williams, Frederick (Dianc) Watts Jr., Robert Watts, Donald Watts, Sharon (Hans) Toews, Jean Watts, Judith (David) VanDeMortel, Sandra (Gary) Ebert; twenty grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; sister Doris (Gerald) Klick; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Watts Sr. on June 15, 1970.

Miles, Nellie E. - Nellie B. Miles, 82, of Newark/Port Gibson, died September 29, 1999 at her home with all her children by her side. Mrs. Miles was born the daughter of Albert and Mary Vickers on February 4, 1917 in Pennsylvania. She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. Interment at Arnold cemetery in Conesus, New York. She is survived by daughter, Anne Marie (John) Reynolds of Newark; sons, Patrick Vickers of Newark, Lawrence C. Miles of Lyons, and Laverne Miles of Florida; daughter-in-law Barbara Miles; grandchildren, Mary Ann (Daniel) Henderson, Rebecca and Robert Cross; great-grandson Garrett; sister, Edith Bailey of Clyde; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence R. Miles in 1987 and her son Richard Miles in 1998.

Valvano, Seraphina J. "Sarah" - Seraphina J. "Sarah" Valvano, 88, of Newark, died on Sept. 16, 1999 at her home. Sarah was born March 14, 1911, in Italy, the daughter of Carlo and Rose DeRosa Crescibene. She was a member of St. Michael Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Elks' Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of the Newark Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Interment in Newark cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Michael (Linda) and Carl (Donna), both of Newark and Anthony (Nancy) of Ft. Pierce, Florida; one sister, Edith Crescibene; one brother, Joseph Crescibene of Newark; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony "Tony" in 1988; and a brother, Henry Crescibene.
