Geldorf, Cornelius A. - Cornelius A. Geldorf, 69, died Sept. 17, 1999. He was a local dairy farmer and had been employed as a rural newspaper carrier for Gannett in Rochester and the Canandaigua Messenger, as well as operating a water hauling business. Interment in East Palmyra cemetery. Cornelius is survived by Virginia, his wife of 47 years; his children, Gary (Sue) Geldorf of Webster, Debbie (Scott) Lush of Walworth, Nancy (Rick) VanOoyen of Newark Jim (Kathy) Geldorf of Macedon, Laurie (Paul) Latham of Midland Texas, Brian (Tracy) Geldorf of Palmyra; 14 grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane (Bob) VanHalle of Cayuga; in-laws, Ernest and Lenora Facer of Lyons, Bob and Marie Pieters of Penfield, Dick and Marian Pieters of Newark; one aunt and uncle; nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his son, Stephen Neil Geldorf on November 6, 1965.

Ballard, Dorothy M. - Dorothy M. Ballard, 70, of Sodus, died Sept. 16, 1999 at the Seneca Nursing Home. Interment in the Baptist Rural cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Nathan; seven children, Cheryl Tobin of Rush, Raymond Guck of Honeoye, Deborah M. Wingate of East Rochester, Linda M. Wilson of Marion, Sean Ballard of North Rose and Amy (James) Keagle of Savannah, Jeannie Guck of Savannah; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Charles Tubbs of Orlando, FL and Douglas (Mary) Tubbs of Greece; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Tubbs.

Tingue, Danny L. - Danny L. Tingue, 50, of North Rose, died suddenly on September 16, 1999 at Rochester General Hospital. He lived most of his life in Sodus, was a 1968 graduate of Sodus Central School, and a 31-year employee of Xerox in Webster, where he worked in corporate trucking. Interment in Sodus Rural cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; three sons, Michael of Jacksonville FL, Jody (Carol) of Alton and Danny Jr. of Macedon; daughter, Danielle of Lyons; granddaughter, Adriana; stepchildren, Ricky and Jessica Itara of North Rose; mother, Grace of Sodus; three sisters, Lynda (Sonny) Briot of Williamson, Joyce (Randy) Fletcher and Judy Templeton of Sodus; 2 brothers, Dale (Patty) of Wolcott and Terry (Laura) of Sodus; aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Leslie, in 1993 and a very special uncle, David Lonneville in 1992.

Palone, Larry G. - Larry G. Palone, 57, of Warwick, NY formerly of Newark, died Sept. 20, 1999 at Horton Medical Center in Middletown, NY after a brief illness. Larry was born to Dominic and Alice Feiock Palone, August 27, 1942 in Newark. He was a graduate of Newark High School, and proprietor of EZE Equipment Co. in Florida, NY. Interment in Elmwood cemetery in Lyons. Larry is survived by his loving wife Marjorie Bauer Palone; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Harry Foote of Scotchtown, NY; son Michael Palone of Warwick; three grandchildren, Brian, Brenten and Brittany; mother, Alice Palone; brother, Gary Palone of Geneva; sister, Donna Harris of Syracuse; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Crowther, Florence C. (Cottrell) - Florence C. ( Cottrell) Crowther of Palmyra, died January 13, 1999 in her 81st year. She was predeceased by her husband J. William Crowther, D.C. a chiropractor in Palmyra for many years, and daughter Sandra Kay Crowther. She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Bahler of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Shirley McDonnell of Hawaii; nieces, nephews and dear friends. Interment in Fort Hill cemetery, Auburn, NY.

Humbert, Lorene M. - Lorene M. Humbert, 81, died September 13, 1999. Interment in Ridge Chapel cemetery. Lorene is survived by her husband, Luther Humbert; sons, Bruce (Kathy) Grandin, Keith (Lynn) Grandin; 3 step grandchildren; brother, Wilson Sessions.

Joseph, Avard C. - Avard C. Joseph, 81, of Clifton Springs, died September 7, 1999 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. Mr. Joseph was born June 13, 1918 in Ainsworth, Nebraska, the son of Ray and Daisy Cornelius Joseph. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in several campaigns. Interment Riverview cemetery. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn Proper Joseph; sons, Eugene (Mary) Joseph and Ronald (Terry) Joseph, all of Guam, Charles (Laura) Joseph of Gulfport, Mississippi and Roger (Francine) Joseph of Lyons; daughter-in-law, Betty Joseph of Newark; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice (Chester) Caprini and Elaine (Alvert) Woodhead, all of Naples; brother, John (Della) Joseph of Prattsburg; sisters-in-law, Mary Joseph of Prattsburg, Leona Joseph of Naples, and Lucille Joseph of Philadelphia, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law, Laurice Proper of Spencerport, Richard Proper and Claude Proper of Phelps, Betty Proper of Newark and Duane Proper of Clifton Springs; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Arthur Joseph, who died in 1994, and infant son, Tommy Neil Joseph, who died in 1945; and brothers Leonard and Gene Joseph.

Johnson, James E. - James E. Johnson, 74, of Clifton Springs, died September 10, 1999. Interment in the Palmyra cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ethelmae Johnson; children, James E. (Pam) Johnson; Jay (Cheryl) Johnson, Joy Allard; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Vanderlinde, David D. - David D. 'Blackie' Vanderlinde, 73, of Fairville, died Sept. 11, 1999 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Vanderlinde was born June 23, 1926, in Sodus, son of Isaac and Lena Vanderlinde. He had previously worked for Bloomer Brothers for 17 years. Blackie was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church, the Fairville Fire Dept. and the Newark Elks Lodge. Blackie retired in 1988 from the Clifton Springs Hospital, where he had worked in the maintenance department for 21 years. Interment in Fairville cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Randall) Rider of Clifton Springs; four grandchildren, Timothy Vanderlinde, Hermy Vanderlinde, Matthew Rider and Crystal Rider; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Mara Vanderlinde; a daughter-in-law Wendy Vanderlinde of Lyons; three brothers, Isaac of Lockport, Ralph of Newark and Martin 'Toby' of Lyons; a sister, Maude Featherly of Sodus; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Emily; son Larry; brothers, William and John; sisters, Janette Davison and Marie Brennessel.

Jackson, Gail S. - Gail S. Jackson, 45, Newark, died September 10, 1999. Gail was born June 11, 1954 in Malone, NY to Ardith (Cook) and Ira Durkee. She worked at Garlock in Palmyra. Interment in Chateaugay. She is survived by her husband, Allen; daughter, Mary Beth Jackson, at home; son, Jeromy Jackson of Fairville; three stepchildren, Joshua Jackson of Newark, Caprice DeBuyser of Newark, Jeremy Waters of MI; her father, Ira Durkee of Marion; three sisters, Diane (Roger) Anderson of Wolcott, Pennie (James) Hutt of TX, Pattie (Mark) Sauer of Williamson; two brothers, Danny (Solita) of Gulfport, MS, Dale of Rochester. She was predeceased by her mother Ardith.

Dobbelaere, Robert C. - Robert C. Dobbelaere, 56, of Wickham Blvd., Sodus Point, formerly of Newark, died September 14, 1999 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife Mary; two daughters, Chris (Sean) Kennedy of Sodus Point, Carie Dobbelaere of Rochester; son, Jeff Dobbelaere of Georgia; grandchildren, Taylor and Michael.

Gay, Vincenzina - Vincenzina Gay, 82, of Sodus, died September 2, 1999 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. She was born on June 17, 1917 to Samuel and Theresa Pilato, in Niagara Falls, NY. She retired from Seneca Foods where she was a factory worker. Interment at Furnaceville cemetery in Ontario. Mrs. Gay is survived by her son, Carmen Catalano of East Rochester; daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Robert Fillmore of Newark; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers, Joseph (Grace) Pilato of Williamson and James (Virginia) Pilato of Ontario; sisters, Sandra Hicks of Florida and Jean Graham of Ontario; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gay was predeceased by her first husband Anthony Catalano in 1994, second husband Herbert Gay in 1996, grandson Carmen Jr. in 1995 and a brother Frank Pilato during WWII.

Welcher, Joyce S. - Joyce S. Welcher, 85, of Newark and Rochester, died August 29, 1999, at the Brightonian Nursing Home in Rochester. Mrs. Welcher was born in Newark on Sept. 17, 1913, daughter of Alfred and Emily Marshall Scarth. Mr. and Mrs. Welcher were the last owners of the family farm just north of Newark, on which Hereford cattle were raised. There was also a feedlot, slaughterhouse, meat shop and locker plant on the premises. Joyce was the bookkeeper for the entire farm operation. The Welchers retired to Florida for 18 years before returning to Rochester. At the time of her husband Ronald's death two years ago, the couple had been married 57 years. She was an active Republican party worker and an avid duplicate bridge player. Joyce was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark and the Newark Garden Club. Interment in the Newark cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Robert of Syracuse and William of Rochester; five grandchildren, Susan, Dianne, David, Stephen and Jeff; and a brother, Alfred Scarth of Fernandina Beach, FL.

Schell, Gladys L. - Gladys L. Schell, 82, of Sodus, died September 5, 1999 in the Wayne County Nursing Home. Interment in Sodus Rural cemetery. She is survived by daughters, Cherry West of Ithaca and Iris Williams of Newark; two grandchildren, Hope Williams and Tom (Melanie) Castro of Sodus Point; two great-grandchildren, Gage and Mercedes Castro. Mrs. Schell was predeceased by her husband, Robert who died in 1994.

Pangburn, James W. - James W. Pangburn, 52, of Wolcott, died September 6, 1999 at ViaHealth- Newark Campus. Jim is survived by his wife, Theresa; sons, James C. (Lori) Pangburn of Lyons and Cory J. Pangburn at home, daughters, Kari Williamson of Lyons and Rebecca Garrett of Sodus; his mother, Helen Pangburn; grandchildren, Amber, Brett, Cody, Dakota, and Brittany; his sister, Debra (Les Johncox) Pangburn of Newark. He was predeceased by his father, James C. Pangburn and a sister, Karen Ann Pangburn.

Patterson, David B. 'Pat' 'Babe' - David B. 'Pat' 'Babe' Patterson, 71, of Sodus Center, died at his home on September 4, 1999. Mr. Patterson was born in Clearfield, PA and moved to Wayne County in 1947. Interment in Baptist Rural cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Triou; three daughters, Patricia (Dan) Kuhner of Ontario, Deborah (Bob) Kuhner of Sodus, Alma (Lewis) Grace of Wolcott; four grandchildren, David (Suanne) Kuhner of Phelps, Kimberly (Todd) Lorenzen of Sodus, Jennifer Kuhner of Ontario, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Grace of Wolcott; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Benjamin Grace, and Ryan Lorenzen; 4 brothers, Jack of FL, Cameron of CO, Stephen of N. Tonawanda, Dallas of Oswego; a sister, Jean Kern of Nevada.

Phillips, Thomas J. - Thomas J., Phillips, 57, of Marion, died suddenly on September 5, 1999. Thomas was a retired Xerox employee. He was a member of the B.M.W. Motorcycle Club, A.M.A., and a member of Xerox Supervisor's Club. Interment in the Marion cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ballard Phillips; 2 daughters, Cori (Stephen) Stapleton of Clifton Springs, Staci of Marion, his mother, Thelma Phillips of Newark; brother, Richard (Ruth) Phillips of Newark. He was predeceased by his father Stanley in 1998.

Virts, Randy D. - Randy D. Virts, 33, of North Rose, died on Sept. 5, 1999 in Strong Memorial Hospital. He had been injured in an automobile accident. Interment is in York Settlement cemetery. He is survived by his sisters, Joann (Roger) Knapp of Alton, Janet (Dale) Mundy of Wolcott, Wanda Rogers of Alton, brothers, Robert (Miriam) of North Rose, Raymond (Shelda), and Ronald (Barbara) all of Lyons, fiancee, Laurie Briggs of North Rose, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Zachary in 1996.

Pembroke, Veryl E. - Veryl E., Pembroke, 86, of Clifton Springs, formerly of Palmyra, died September 4, 1999 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Veryl was known to many as the Proprietor of Palmyra Building Supply for 20 Years. Building Inspector and Water Commissioner for the Town of Sodus prior to his retirement. He is survived by daughters, Chloe (Robert) Schmidt of Greeley, Colorado, Kathleen (James) Denniston of Palmyra and son, Paul (Carol) Pembroke of Shortsville, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, sister, Cleone (Harold) Farnsworth and brother, Galen Pembroke of Palmyra.

Hilfiker, Glenn J. - Glenn J. Hilfiker, 80, of Newark, died Sept. 6, 1999, at Clifton Springs Hospital, after a brief illness. Mr. Hilfiker was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Rochester, son of Glenn R. and Elizabeth Miller Hilfiker. He graduated from Webster High School, where he was a basketball star. After graduation, he worked at the Monroe Casket Co. in Webster. In 1938, he became a machinist at Gleason Works in Rochester. In 1944, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Macon, Georgia. After one and a half years of service, he returned to Gleason's, where he became a stationary engineer in the power plant. He took machine shop practice in 1941, and power plant operations at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1952. In 1954, he became chief engineer at Bloomer Brothers Paper Mill in Newark. After the mill closed, he became superintendent of maintenance at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. He retired from there in 1980. Mr. Hilfiker was a member of Webster Masonic Lodge, the Phelps Lions Club, the Newark Elks Lodge, the American Legion Post 457 in Phelps and the United Church of Phelps. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Interment in the Webster Rural cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bernice Ingersoll Hilfiker of Newark, formerly of Remsen; two sons, Ronald (Sarah) of Geneseo and Kenneth (Patti) of Anchorage, AL; daughter, Dr. Joan Hilfiker (Dr. Ronald Linkenheil) of Big Flats; brother, Harry (Ave) of Spencerport; sister, Betty (Charles) Brunne of East Quogue, Long Island; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald, in 1930; his father, Glenn, in 1959; and his mother, Elizabeth, in 1994.

Hyde, Roy F. - Roy F. Hyde, 73, of Lummisville Rd., Wolcott, died September 7, 1999 at Rochester General Hospital. Interment in Huron Evergreen cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Eva; 5 children, Dorothy (Steve) Hill of Romulus, Roger (Joann) Hyde of Wolcott, Patricia (Glen) Lake of Alton, Steven (Doris) Hyde of Lyons and Joyce (Bill) Butler of Newark; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Don (Catherine) Hyde of Wolcott and Ernest (Lillian) Hyde of Butler Center; sister, Dorothy McCann of FL; sister-in-law, Florence Allen of Marango; several cousins, nieces and nephews; very special friends, Steve and Sally Cayea.
