Edwards, April Lynn - April Lynn Edwards, 21, died January 19, 2000, in Troy, Pennsylvania. Interment in the Fairville cemetery. April was born May18, 1978, in Sodus, the daughter of Gilbert and Ruby Connolly Edwards. She is survived by her parents; her brother, Gilbert V.; maternal grandparents, Vincent and Janet West of Newark; paternal grandmother, Iona Edwards of Newark; aunts and uncles.

Rich, Geoffrey A. - Geoffrey A. Rich, 50, of Marion, died unexpectedly on January 18, 2000. He is survived by his wife Cathy; children, Jaye Arney, Cristina Rich and Brian Rich; brothers, Terry (Rosie) Rich, Steve (Sue) Rich, William (Norma) Rich, and Michael Rich; and sister Michelle (Rodney) Walker. Mr. Rich founded Coating Technology in 1988 by building plating tanks in his garage. He later made Coating Technology into one of the leading metal-finishing companies in Western New York, employing 30 people.

Powell, Eddie - Eddie Powell, 80, of Palmyra, died January 21, 2000 at Via-Health of Wayne-Newark. Eddie was born Feb. 24, 1919 to James and Henrietta Powell in Cordele, Georgia. He was retired from Seneca Foods in Newark. Interment in East Newark cemetery. Mr. Powell is survived by 12 children, including Shirley (Bobby) Wooden and Marla (David) Klinger, both of Newark; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

DeWispelaere, Marilyn - Marilyn Wanda DeWispelaere, 62, of Castleton, VA, formerly of Marion, died January 21, 2000, at INOVA-Fairfax Hospital. Marilyn was the manager at a horse farm and was a member of the American Connamara Pony Association, American Horse Show Association, United States Dressage Federation; she was a former member of the United Church of Marion. She is survived by two sons, Dale (D'Orsey) DeWispelaere, of Milford, NH and David DeWispelaere, of West Palm Beach, FL; daughter, Diane (Stephen) Houpt, of Sodus; six grandchildren; brother, Steve Short, of Lake Placid and sister, Marsha Short, of Palmyra. She was predeceased by her father, Albert D. Short, her mother, Hazel Short, and one daughter, Jane DeWispelaere.

Casselman, Kenneth H. - Kenneth H. Casselman, 80, formerly of Newark, died at his home in Orange City, FL on January 14, 2000. Mr. Casselman was born Dec. 20, 1919 in Massena. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. At one time he had worked for the New York Central Railroad. He was retired from the Newark State School, where he was an electrician. He is survived by four sons, Kenneth L. (Sandra) of Newark, Thomas (Izabella) Casselman of Portsmouth, RI, John (Kim) Casselman of Sauquoit and William (Denise) Casselman of Port Orange, Florida; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard and Merle of Newark and Leon of Geneva; two sisters, Betty Boughton of Newark and Stella Ward of Geneva; sister-in-law, Shirley Casselman of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Elizabeth, his loving wife of 54 years, in 1996; brothers, Robert, William and Jerry; and a sister, Virginia.

Orso, Elizabeth - Elizabeth Orso, 83, of Derby, died January 25, 2000 at the Lakeshore Hospital in Irving. She was born in Rochester on August 31, 1916, to Peter and Catherine Delfel Orso. She is predeceased by her parents, a brother Andrew Orso, and sister Anne Zeger. She is survived by friends in Derby. Interment in East Newark cemetery.

Snell, Hazel Elizabeth - Hazel Elizabeth Snell, 91, of Newark, died January 27, 2000 at her home on Cobblestone Terrace. Hazel was born in Elmira on February 21, 1908 to Ward and Adelia Whitaker Snell. She came to Newark in 1933. Interment in East Newark cemetery. Many friends survive Hazel at her home.

Harper, Rose Marie Nye - Rose Marie Nye Harper, 43, of Halton City, Texas, formerly of Romulus, died December 20, 1999, at North Park Manor Nursing Home, after an extended illness. Rose Marie was born May 11, 1956, in Montour Falls. She had served as an activity director for a retirement facility. She is survived by her son, Ronald Bolton of Halton City TX; daughter, Gerrilynn Harper of Halton City, TX; parents, Paul and Ruby St. Germain, of Romulus, and Merle and Liz Nye of Newark; and grandchildren, Lance and Schyler of Halton City, TX.

Boerman, Nettie - Nettie Boerman, 85, died January 26, 2000. Funeral services were held at the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church. Nettie is survived by four daughters: Elsie (Leonard) Poot of Salem, OR; Esther (Peter) Hutt of Marion; Martha (Richard) Donegan of DeLand, FL; Deborah (Ted) Krebbeks of Newark; 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Cornelius (Frances) Zonneville of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Abram C. Boerman, and two sons, Roger and David.

Giljam, Norman - Norman R. Giljam, 69, of Belden Ave., Sodus, died at his home on Jan. 28, 2000 after a long illness. Interment will be in Sodus Rural cemetery. Mr. Giljam is survived by Dwen, his wife of 50 years; two daughters, Cindy (Richard) Tack of Sodus, and Pennie (David) Oliver of New Jersey; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Deanne) of Nashville, TN; uncle, Fred (Mary) O'Brien of Cleveland, NY; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Eschenmann, Hilda - Hilda D. Eschenmann, 92, of Sodus, formerly of East Union St., Newark, died January 28, 2000 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Hilda was born in Alloway on March 26, 1907, the daughter of Clinton and Sadie E. Armitage Green Dillingham. She retired in 1963 from the Newark Developmental Center, where she worked for 26 years. She lived in Clyde until 1926, when she moved to Newark. She was a member of St. Michael's Church. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery in Clyde. She is survived by John C., her husband of 38 years; daughter, MaryAnn Buisch; good friends, Tommy Tai Wah of Rochester and Kathy Robinson of Newark; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Caster, Gary - Gary Caster, 51, of Port Byron, died suddenly on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 at Auburn Memorial Hospital. Gary is survived by Deborah, his wife of 12 years; daughter, Patti Schuler of Newark; three grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley (Emmett) Waldron of Savannah, Natalie (Rick) Tenney of Connecticut and Sue (Jim) Clarey of Manlius; brother, Maurice (Kathy) Caster of Lyons; sister-in-law, Kathy Morgan of Penfield; brother-in-law, Steven (Lisa) Morgan of Elbridge; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bowen, Carlton - Carlton C. Bowen, 79, of Newark, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Mr. Bowen was born July 25, 1920, in North Volney. He had retired from Garlock Company in 1985. He was a member of the Newark Fire Department, former member of the Palmyra Moose Club and the Citizen Band Radio Club. Spring burial will be in East Palmyra cemetery. He is survived by his two stepsons, Duane (Marian) Wirth of Williamson and Richard (Sandy) Wirth of Newark; stepdaughter, Donna Wirth of Palmyra; special friend, Lorraine McKinney of Palmyra, PA; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna in 1995.

Blankenberg, Florence M. - Florence M. Blankenberg, 78, of Palmyra, died January 29, 2000. Florence served as an Army Nurse during World War II. She is survived by her son, Jim (Karen) Blankenberg; grandchildren, Kathryn and Kelly Blankenberg, Jody (Greg) Poulakis, Tracy Turner; one great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Alton Plumb; extended family, Prinya Plaivech, Nat and Wat Nakvanich; sister, Norma Cook; brother, Mahlon Knapp.

Lasher, John, Jr. - John P. Lasher, Jr., 54, of Marion, died suddenly January 31, 2000. He was a Navy veteran and employee of Toomey Construction Company. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Marshall) Brooks of Lakeland, FL; his father, John Lasher of Marion; his sister, Marilyn (Ted) LeClair of Marion; nieces and nephews.

Leenhouts, Lucile - Lucile L. Leenhouts, 73, of East Palmyra, died February 1, 2000 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Mrs. Leenhouts was born February 27, 1926 in Palmyra, the daughter of Charles and Ethel Love Harris. She was a secretary for more than 30 years with the Newark School District, first at the East Palmyra Elementary School, then moving to the Kelley School when it opened. She retired in July 1990. She was a member of the East Palmyra Presbyterian Church, the East Palmyra Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and the Arcadia Senior Citizens. She was an active member of the Kountry Kuzzins Square Dance Club. Interment in East Palmyra cemetery. She is survived by a daughter Karol (Richard) Leeuwen of Palmyra; three sons, Timothy (Susan) of Fairport, Thomas (Debra) of Pittsford and Jeffrey (Susan) of Clinton, CT; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Jordan; brother, Ralph (Martha) Harris of Penn Yan; and a special friend, Robert Miles of Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob, in 1980 and a sister, Thelma Petrosino.

Keesler, Shiela M. - Shiela M. Keesler, 52, of Phelps, died February 2, 2000, at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. Shiela was born Sept. 4, 1947 in Clifton Springs, the daughter of the Francis and Margaret Austin Henry. She was a member of the Hopewell Clowns and the Clowns of America. She was a past member of the Phelps Business and Professional Women and also was named B.P.W. Woman of the Year. Shiela had volunteered for many organizations dealing with the elderly and special needs children. She is survived by her husband, Bill Keesler and her sons, Keith and Kevin; sister, Wilma (Bob) Holtz of Shortsville; and brothers, Wesley (Linda) Utter of Newark, Kip (Christine) Utter of Phelps and Robert Merithew of Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Margaret Henry; and her stepmother, Joyce Henry Utter.

Neil, Scott Granville - Scott Granville Neil, 46, of Alpharetta, GA, died January 29, 2000 from liver cancer, with his wife at his side. Scott grew up in Russellville, KY. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Harvard Business School. Scott was a Senior VP of Marketing with Bank of America in Charlotte, NC. He loved golf, University of Kentucky basketball, and his home and farnily. Interment in Newark cemetery. Newark is his wife's hometown, where he and Nancy were married 21 years ago. Scott is survived by his wife Nancy (Schmidt) Neil, and his children Robyn and Lesley. His mother, Alice, and father, Gilbert, preceded him in death. He leaves behind many cousins, aunts, two nephews and in-laws.

Lewis, Doris L. - Doris L. Lewis, 71, formerly of Alton and Cuba, died February 6, 2000, at Deaconess Skilled Nursing Facility in Buffalo. Interment in Port Allegheny, PA. She is survived by two sons, Charles V. (Alice) Lewis of North Rose and Vern A. Lewis of Newark; daughter, Palma J. Lewis of Clyde; step-son, Bud Budinger and step-daughter Marie Belec; 9 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Budinger of Belmont and sister, Jerry-ann (Dean) Hedtke of California.

Laties, Ruth - Ruth Laties, 91, of Newark, died February 5, 2000, at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Interment in Boughton Hill cemetery, Victor. She is survived by her daughter, Lucille (John) Campbell of Newark; two grandchildren, Beckie (Tim) Wavrick, and William Holtz of Houston, Texas; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Potter of Millville, PA; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, and a grandson, Barry Holtz.

Sharett, Beatrice - Beatrice Sharett, 69, of Marion, died February 6, 2000. Interment in Marion cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Frank of Henrietta and Cherie (Wayne) Riker of Williamson; two sons, Donald (Ann) and Daniel (Elizabeth) all of Marion; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Robert Brunke of Dansville and Raymond Brunke of CA; three sisters, Patricia Holtz of OR, Carolyn Hohnson of Livonia and Helen Home of Seneca Falls; nieces and nephews.

Matthys, Robert 'Peanuts' - Robert 'Peanuts' Matthys, 70, of Lyons, died February 4, 2000, at ViaHealth of Wayne-Newark Campus after an extended illness. Bob was born in Newark, one of 13 children to Edmond and Eliza Pratt Matthys on April 12, 1929. Their family migrated from Belgium in 1917 to the New York state area. He was a veteran in the Army, serving in the Korean conflict. Interment in South Lyons cemetery in the spring. He is survived by his wife, Lucile Wallace Matthys of Lyons; three sons, Mike (Patty) and Eric (Maxine), both of Lyons and Ronald of Herkimer County; daughter, Danya Matthys of Lyons; four grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Heather and Britnie; great-grandson, Shawn Michael; brother, Gerald (Ann) Matthys of Lyons; three sisters, Margret DeMay of Palmyra, Julie Woodhams of Phelps and Rose Bouwens of Newark; many nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Louis, Charles, Henry, Armar, Levinus, David and Edmond Jr.; and one sister, Louisa.
