BIVIANO, Marion J.

Marion Biviano, 95, former merchant and public servant for many years, died Friday after a brief stay in Rochester General Hospital. Marion was born on August 15, 1906 in Ontario, the son of Sante Biviano, a Pioneer of the Town of Ontario, and Josephine (Fioco). He was married to the former Althea Goodness and they would have celebrated their 75th wedding aniversary on July 9th of this year. He is survived by his sons Dr. Ronald Biviano, Robert (Doreen) Biviano and granddaughters Leslie and Alison, and by his sisters Mary Cypressi and Theresa Copertino, both of Ontario. Mr. Biviano is best remembered for his last work in town as a businessman on Main Street running the Western Auto Associate Store for twenty-two years and Marion's Coffee Shop next door prior to that. During his years in the coffee shop he was also an active member of the Ontario Fire Company and had two alarm buttons (one in the store and one in his apartment upstairs) to sound the fire whistle when a call came in. Until his death the Firemen's Exempt Club was dear to him and he attended every dinner he could. During his years in the Main Street business district, he was also very active in town politics. He served as Ontario Town Clerk for four years, and later as a Town Councilman. Prior to his service, the Town of Ontario had no town hall or meeting place for the town board, so Marion expanded an addition to his hardware store to include the Town Offices for daily business and Town Board meetings. Not only did he donate the space and utilities, but also office hours were expanded since the town was open the same hours as the businesses in the village. At the same time he was working the family farm of many acres on Knickerbocker Road, growing first a variety of crops, but later concentrating on grape vineyards. The majority of the farm is now Casey Park, land partly sold and partly donated and named after his very dear friend Earl Casey. Few people know the many early jobs that Marion held. He managed the Empire Pickle Works, the sauerkraut factory in town and a one-day stint working on the railroad (his mother came and took him away from the dangerous job on his first day). He also was a Chevrolet salesman for Earl Huxley. During WWII, he worked at the Curtis-Wright Aircraft Plant in Buffalo making war planes, but returned to the town he loved at the end of the war. He loved music and played in the band "The Lakeshore Melody Boys" with his brothers-in-law during his first years of marriage. He maintained this love of "good music" to the end and would sometimes sit in his car and hear the end of a CD before going into the house. That house on Furnace Road was built by Marion in his "spare time" in 1957 where he lived and tirelessly maintained the grounds and gardens until the day before he went into the hospital. Mr. Biviano was a charter member of the Ontario Rotary, a member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Fire Company and later Firemen's Exempt, the Ontario Boy Scouts and was a member of the town board committee instrumental in having land owned by Rochester Gas and Electric company along Lake Road approved for the construction of the Ginna Nuclear Plant. His love of his hometown and its welfare was constant.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary's of the Lake Church with burial at Calvary cemetery. Contributions may be sent to the Pines of Peace or the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Ambulance Squad. Arrangements were by Murphy Funeral Home. Laura Wife to Shaun, the other grownup, mother to Andy, 20, bio - Lisa, 18, bio - Sonal, 11, arrived age 6 from Mahipatram Rupram Ashram, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India - IFI and Paul, 6, arrived from Hong Kong 12/14/00 - TBA Den mother to Cody the terrier, Carol and Marcus the beagles, Stella the lab mix, Bullseye and Taylor the ...[cut off]...
