Fisher, Allsion A.

ONTARIO - May 11, 2013 at age 93. Allison went home to the Lord. He was predeceased by his brother, Elvin Fisher, and son-in-law, Rex Judd. Survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty; daughters, Julie (K. Michael) Robertson, Sharon (Don) Bailey, Lori Judd, and Wendy (Jim) Roy; grandsons, Jason and Aaron Roy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elwood and Shirley French; nieces and nephews, Leora (David) Morris, Robert Fisher, and Carl (Carol) Fisher; other special nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Allison Fisher was born on June 26, 1919, the second son of Mervyn and Mertie Fisher. Al lived with his parents and brother, Elvin, on the family’s 75-acre fruit farm on Fisher Road (formerly Town Line Road) in Ontario, N.Y. When Mervyn retired, Allison and Elvin took over the farm. After Elvin retired, Al continued to manage the farm for 15 more years until it was sold in 1984. The Fisher Brothers Farm was a well-known and prominent fruit farm in Wayne County.
Al developed a keen interest in music as a young child. He started playing the harmonica at age 6 and the accordion at age 14. By the age of 16, Al had become an accomplished accordion player and won several WHAM Radio Amateur Hour awards. He also gave accordion lessons for several years in his late teens and early twenties. At age 18, he became a member of the Ridge Old Timers Band, which was featured every Saturday afternoon on a WMBO Radio Show broadcasted from Auburn, N.Y. Other bands that Al was a member of included the Fairport Old Timers, the Rhythm Rangers, and the JOAL Combo. Al played his beloved accordion in bands for over 30 years.
Al married his wife, Betty, on August 16, 1942. They lived in the family homestead on Fisher Road until 1988, when they moved to Centennial Drive in Ontario (where they lived together until last summer). Al and Betty have four daughters--Julie Robertson (Michael), Sharon Bailey (Don), Lori Judd, and Wendy Roy (Jim). They also have two grandsons, Jason and Aaron Roy.
Al’s favorite vacation destination was the Thousand Islands, near Alexandria Bay, N.Y., where he and his family vacationed every summer since 1942. It was here that Al developed an interest in fishing and a passion for golf. Although he began playing golf at age 48, Al approached golf like he did everything else—with great determination and commitment. He soon became an excellent golfer, as evidenced by a hole-in-one at the Alexandria Bay Golf Club!
Al was a faithful and active member of the Immanuel (Congregational) United Church of Christ in Ontario, N.Y. for over 80 years.
Al was known to all of his family and friends as a man of immense integrity. His kind and generous spirit and great sense of humor have made him an exemplary and wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, friend, and member of the community. He was one in a million!
Friends may join the family on Friday, May 17, from 4-7 PM at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY. His funeral service will be held Saturday, May 18, at 11 AM at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1973 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY. Interment to be held at a later date at Furnaceville cemetery.
