Charles L. Battles Sr., 53, of 2480 county Route 6, Volney, died Thursday. He was born in Volney. He retired in 1994 after 14 years as a truck driver with Jay Sea Beer Distributors in Oswego. He was a member of New York State Pony and Mule Draft Club and a life member of Hannibal VFW. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and served 15 months with the military police. Survivors: His wife of 29 years, the former Mary R. Otis; a daughter, Amy Jo Battles of Oswego; two sons, Charles L. Jr. and Wesley J., both of Volney; six sisters, Dora J. Altaman of Volney, Arlene Alesci of Brewerton, Dorothy Smith and Elaine Lazzaro, both of Mexico, Gloria Demar of New Haven and Diane MacDougall of Fulton; two brothers, Robert of Mexico and William of Volney; one grandchild. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home. Burial, North Volney Cemetery. Calling hours, 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

Joanne M. Cronk, 46, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Thursday. Born in Syracuse, she graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse High School in 1974. She moved to Arizona five years ago. Survivors: Her parents, Roger and Caroline Cronk of North Syracuse; a brother, Roger Cronk Jr. of North Syracuse. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Sears-Middleton- Jones Funeral Home and 11:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial, Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Richard J. Stanistreet

Richard J. Stanistreet, 77, formerly of 649 Helen St., Syracuse, died Monday at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School and attended Syracuse University for post graduate studies. He retired in 1987 as a high school English teacher for Syracuse school district. He was an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Ryo J., died in 1982. Survivors: His wife of 48 years, the former Marion E. Doty; a daughter, Eileen Stanistreet of Syracuse; a son, Marc of Syracuse; three sisters, Jane Lowe of Bradenton, Fla., Patricia Welch of Camillus and Mary Edick of Houston,  Texas; four brothers, Robert of San Antonio,  Texas, Paul of Baldwinsville, Donald of Liverpool and John of Newfane; two grandchildren. Services and calling hours: None. Burial,  White Chapel Memory Gardens. Carter Funeral Home, Syracuse, has arrangements. Survivors: Her husband of 40 years, Theodore; a daughter, Colleen Andrus of Elbridge; a son, Michael of Syracuse; two sisters, Marion Fantana of Liverpool and Geraldine Dill of Elbridge; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. L. Alpharetta Boberg, 81, formerly of Liverpool, died Wednesday at Sunnyside Care Center, East Syracuse. She was born in Amsterdam. She retired in 1983 after 39 years as an executive secretary at General Electric. She was a member of the GE 25-year club and a former member of Syracuse Liederkranz. She was a former member and secretary of Ars Nova Chorale and owned prize-winning English springer spaniels. Survivors: Several cousins. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Saturday in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. No calling hours. Delaney & Greabell Funeral Home, East Syracuse, has arrangements.

Willie James Daniels, 63, of 950 E. Water St., Syracuse, died Sunday. Born in Rebecca, Ga., he attended Georgia schools. He was a truck driver for Boston-Buffalo Express. He had also worked for Green House Packing and Coker Paving. He was a member of Tucker Missionary Baptist Church and the Male Chorus. Survivors: A daughter, Deborah Dennis of Apopka, Fla.; a brother, Colie A. McKellar of Syracuse; a grandson. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in Tucker Missionary Baptist Church. John S. Kozloski II
August 9, 2001
John S. Kozloski II, 92, of Liverpool died Saturday at The Waters. Born in Medina, he lived in Bonita Springs, Fla., for 26 years before moving to Liverpool. He was a self-employed carpenter and contractor and worked as a layout man for Buffalo Pumps during World War II, manufacturing machinery for U.S. submarines. Survivors: Two daughters, Constance Matson of Marion, Ohio, and Patricia  Johnson of Dothan, Ala.; a son, Raymond G. of North Syracuse; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She retired in 1981 as a teacher and librarian from the Fayetteville-Manlius School District after 12 years. She was a communicant of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Syracuse, a member of New York State Retired Teachers Association and Syracuse University Alumnae Association. She was named The Post-Standard Woman of Achievement in 1969. A son, James R., died in 1990. Survivors: Her husband, Richard H.; a son, Jeffrey of Delmar; a brother, William Jaynes of Baldwinsville; five grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Alban's Episcopal Church.
