Cornwall, N.Y. - Patricia A. Picone a retired banker for Ellenville National Bank in Blooming Grove, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at her home. She was 59. The daughter of the late Joseph Heffernan and Mildred Marro Modzel, she was born April 13, 1943 in the Bronx. She was a member of the St. Thomas of Canterbury Church of Cornwall and a former member of the Sacred Heart Church in Monroe. Survivors include her husband, Michael Picone of Cornwall; mother, Mildred Modzel of Warwick; son, Joseph Picone and his wife, Susan of Washingtonville; son, Michael Picone and his wife, Toni, of Monroe; daughter, Patricia A. Picone of Monroe; daughter, Kathryn Picone of Monroe; brother, Edward Modzel of Lake Ronkonkoma and grandsons, Joseph and Brian Picone, along with several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday, June 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, June 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. Prayer service will be held Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 6, at 11:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe, with the Rev. MARY D. "TOOTS" WIELAND

Narrowsburg, N.Y. - Mary D. "Toots" Wieland of Narrowsburg, NY, a retired telephone operator for Big Eddy Telephone Co. of Narrowsburg, NY and resident of the area for 80 years, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at home. She was 92. The daughter of Christian G. and Marie Cromer Wieland, she was born on September 9, 1909 in New York, NY. She was married to the late Carl Wieland who passed away in 1972. Mrs. Wieland was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Narrowsburg, NY, having sung in the choir there for many years. She was a member of St. Tammany's Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Callicoon, NY. She was a loving mother and grandmother and an active resident of the area until her retirement in the 1960's. Survivors include three children; Virginia and Ed Echeverria of Yorktown Heights, NY, Charles and Flo Wieland of Narrowsburg, NY and Marilee and Rich Schnable of Biglerville, PA as well as thirteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Christian who was killed in Korea in 1950. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2002 from 10AM to 12PM at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. The Rev. Phyllis Haynes will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Cove cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY. ANNA E. FINN

Monroe, N.Y. - Anna E. Finn a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Rochester General Hospital, Rochester. She was 82. The daughter of the late Frederick Eid and Anna Heimbuch Eid, she was born August 20, 1919, in Union City, N.J. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Monroe and a member of the Jolly Seniors in Monroe. A family statement read, "She embodied the beatitude, blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God." Her spirit will live on in her husband, John J. Finn of Monroe; son, John J. Finn and his wife, Judith, of Irondequoit; daughter, Jean Elliott of New Windsor; daughter, Kathleen Finn of Harriman; brother, Rev. Msgr. Fredrick Eid of Hoboken, NJ; sister, Marie Eitner of Brick Township, NJ; sister, Veronica Eid of Union City, NJ; grandson, Daniel D. Elliott and granddaughter, Elizabeth R. Finn; grandson, John D. Finn, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joanne Finn. JOSEPHINE "JO-JO" "MEMA" GROSSO

Montgomery, N.Y. - Josephine "Jo-Jo" "MeMa" Grosso of Montgomery, NY, a cook for Mike's Deli, Montgomery and a 20-year resident of the area, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Middletown. She was 72. The daughter of Frank Bizzoco and Anna Maria Miraglia Bizzoco, she was born September 27, 1929 in the Bronx. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish. A family statement read, "She worked together with her husband, Rocco, daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Mike at Mike's Deli in Montgomery for 20 years. She was a special woman whom everyone loved and will be greatly missed." Survivors include her husband, Rocco Grosso of Montgomery; daughter, Vera DiBitetto and her husband, Michael, of Highland Mills; two granddaughters, Gina and Lisa DiBitetto; three grandsons, Michael DiBitetto and John and Michael Grosso; daughter-in-law, Debbie Grosso of Rockland County; two brothers, Michael Bizzoco of Connecticut and Felix Bizzoco of Delaware, and sister, Mary Dehillo of Yonkers. She was predeceased by her son, John R. Grosso; two brothers, Daniel and Andrew and three sisters, Rose, Claire and Madelaine. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, June 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union Street, Montgomery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 89 Union Street, Montgomery. Fr. Joseph D. Sullivan will officiate. PHILIP J. FRANCIAMORE

Highland, N.Y. - Philip J. Franciamore of Highland, New York, retired from IBM in 1978, died on Monday, June 3, 2002, at Hudson Valley Nursing Home. He was 89. The son of the late Andrew and Angela Franciamore, he was born September 19, 1912 in San Stefano, Sicily. He migrated to New York in 1923. He attended schools both in Sicily and New York. He became an Apple Grower and Strawberry Distributor better known as the "King of Strawberries". He served as Treasurer for the Lloyd Democratic Club and Highland cemetery for many years. He was a member of the Hudson Valley Senior Citizens. He was a parishioner of st. Augustine Church. A family statement read, "He was a devoted husband and a loving father. He was an avid piano player and loved to listen to Italian music". For 61 years he was the beloved husband of Matilda DiMetro Franciamore who survives at home; two daughters, Matilda and husband, Joseph DelForno of Highland; Angela and husband, Richard McCarthy of Harwich, Mass, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Franciamore of Highland; six grandchildren, Debra Miller of Warrenton, Virginia; Darlene Marabito of New Paltz; Richard McCarthy of North Attleboro, Mass; Marlene Conklin of Gardiner; Cara Del Forno and Joseph Del Forno of Highland; and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Philip was predeceased by his son, Andrew Franciamore; two sisters, Angela Rizzo and Rosario Ciccarello and a brother, James "Nat" Franciamore. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2002 at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, 38 Main Street, Highland. WILLIAM CHARLES STANFIELD III

Middletown, Maryland - William Charles Stanfield III died Monday, June 3, 2002 in Middletown, New York. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Area Medal, a Bronze Star and a Victory Medal. He served on the USSLCI (L) 469. He was the son of the late William C. "Bunny" Stanfield and Rose McLaughlin Stanfield and step son of Agnes von Kurorosky Stanfield. He was the husband of the late Edith Marie Marcello Stanfield who died on June 22, 1986 in Middletown, Maryland. For twenty five years they owned and operated Stanfield's Market in Middletown, Maryland. Bill Stanfield was born on November 17, 1921 in Middletown, New York, attended Otisville High School until joining the United States Navy on December 18, 1941 at the same time as his father. After the Navy, he attended glass blowing school and was a skilled neon sign maker for over 60 years. Surviving are one son, William C. Stanfield IV and his wife, JoAnn; two daughters, Alicerose Stanfield Moore and her husband, John and Patricia Stanfield Fisher and her husband, Jeff, all of Middletown, Maryland; five grandchildren, Nikki Lee Yopp and John T. Moore of Middletown, Maryland; William C. Stanfield V, Jeffrey A. Stanfield and Gary C. Stanfield of Walkersville, Maryland, and one great-granddaughter, Trinity Marie Stanfield. Bill leaves behind his final love and dancing partner, Mildred Gesualdo, who made his last years so happy. Bill and his family are grateful for having this loving and caring person in their lives. Willliam C. Stanfield III was pre-deceased by two sisters, Vivian Bain of Minnesota, and Rosemary Lothain of New York. He was a member of Amvets Post #9, American Legion Francis Scott Key Post #11 and the Elks Lodge #289 of Maryland. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2002 at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown. WALTER F. AHERN

Newburgh, N.Y. - Walter F. Ahern, a retired guard for Bellmont Race Track, entered into rest Monday, November 11, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital. He was 93. Mr. Ahern was born October 27, 1909 in New Jersey. Survivors include his wife, Geneieve Vesely Ahern; two stepsons, Edward Vesely of Newburgh and Eugene Vesely and his wife, Julie of Newburgh; a step daughter, Valerie Staples and her husband, Hamilton, of Wallkill; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 16 at Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.

SR. MARIE VERONICA AMATO, S.F.P

Warwick, N.Y. Sr. - Marie Veronica Amato, S.F.P., a 67-year member of the Francisican Sisters of the Poor and 27-year resident of the area, entered into rest Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Schervier Pavilion. She was 90. The daughter of Santo Girolama Catanese Amato, she was born August 27, 1912 in Brooklyn. Survivors include a sister, Jennie LaPlaca of Princeton, N.J. Visitation will be held during the afternoon and evening, Thursday, November 14 at the Mount Alverno Center, Warwick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15 at the Mount Alverno Center Chapel. The Rev. Joseph McAndrew will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Alverno cemetery, Warwick. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Strong-Basile Funeral Home, Warwick.

THOMAS MATHEW TREMBLAY

Middletown, N.Y. - Thomas Mathew Tremblay, a longtime maintenance man at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen and lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at home in Middletown. He was 54. The son of Joseph and Gladys Fenner Tremblay, he was born September 21, 1948 in Goshen. He was a member of St. John Church in Goshen. Survivors include his sisters, Patricia Wesolowski of Middletown and Florence Bedford of Monticello ; brothers, Raymond Tremblay of Phillipsport and Michael Tremblay of Summitville; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Tremblay Jr. and John Tremblay. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 19 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Goshen. GORDON V. CAHILL SR.

Warwick, N.Y. - Gordon V. Cahill passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at St. Anthony's Hospital, Warwick. He was 76. The son of the late Edward and Catherine Ott Cahill Sr., he was born July 4, 1926 in New Milford. Mr. Cahill was a retired explosive expert with E.I. Dupont in Pompton Lakes. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his son, Gordon V. Cahill Jr. of Warwick; one sister-in-law, Janet Cahill of Warwick; two nieces, Lynn and Sharon; and nephew, Edward. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Cahill. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, November 14 at the Lazear-Smith and Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. HAZEL J. JANSEN

Schoharie, N.Y. - Formerly of Walden, N.Y. Hazel J. Jansen, a retired nurse for St. Luke's Hospital and former owner of The Campus Restaurant in Walden, and lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, November 11, 2002 in Schoharie. She was 90. The daughter of William and Mary Haskins Dangerfield, she was born March 21, 1912 in Canada. She was the widow of Oscar Richard Jansen. Survivors include one son, Richard Jansen and his wife, Paula, of Walden; one daughter, Jean Sparks and her husband, George, of Schoharie; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in the Wallkill Valley cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Walden or Catskill Area Hospice, 209 MacArthur Ave., Cobleskill, NY 12043. HAROLD SKINNER

Corona, Calif. - Harold Skinner, a retired laborer and former longtime Sullivan County resident, died Friday, November 8, 2002 in Veterans Administration Hospital, Corona, Calif. He was 80. The son of the late Ray Skinner and Bess Owen Kelly, he was born August 5, 1922 in Lava, N.Y. Harold served our country during World War II in the United States Army. He worked for many years in Shandlee. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Smith of Pahrum, Nev.; sister Marilyn Parks and her husband, Robert, of White Sulphur Springs; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and his stepmother, Katherine Johnson Skinner. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 17 in Corona, Calif. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Local arrangements were made by the Harris Funeral Home, Liberty.

BARBARA JEAN COBBS

Newburgh, N.Y. - Barbara Jean Cobbs, a homemaker, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 in the Newburgh Campus, St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 32. The daughter of George Cobbs of Florida and Martha Bowen of Newburgh, she was born January 21, 1970 in Lake Wells, Fla. Survivors include her parents, Martha Bowen of Newburgh and George Cobbs of Florida; her fiance, Stephano; brothers, Robert Brown of Lakeland, Fla., Darryl Moody of Miami, Fla., and Winston Williams of Newburgh; sisters, RoseAnn Ryane and Starcha Williams, both of Newburgh, Karen and Enatha Moody and Lawanda James, all of Lakeland, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday, November 16, in the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, 1528 Plattekill Turnpike, Newburgh. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m., with the Pastor, Elder Thermond Herring, officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Middle Hope. GEORGE S. STRYSKO

Hillburn, N.Y. - George S. Strysko died Tuesday, November 12, 2002. He was 69. Born in Mahwah, N.J., George was a 50-year resident of Hillburn. He was a life-member of the Hillburn Fire Department, and Fromm Maxwell DeBaun Post American Legion. He is survived by one daughter, Ellen Wollman; two sons, Thomas and Irving; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Stanley, John, and Sigmund; and three sisters, Mary Strysko, Edna Cannizaro, and Frances Tomsic. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; and one son, George. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, November 14 at the Scarr Funeral Home Inc., Route 202, Suffern. SEBASTIAN RAMETTA

Goshen, N.Y. and Orange, N.J. - Sebastian Rametta expired on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown. Mr. Rametta was born in Solarino, Italy and came to the United States in 1954 and settled in Orange, N.J. He was a self-employed tailor until her retired about 15 years ago. He was the beloved husband of Lucy (nee Sapia) for the past 58 years; loving father of Dr. Chet and his wife, Lisa Rametta, Mary and her husband, Walter Lauer, Anthony and his wife, Mischelle and Rita and her husband, Vincent Gencaro; dear brother of Carmelo, Paolo, Salvatore Rametta and Michelina Calafiore; and adoring grandfather of Rachel Zimolka, Thomas, Benjamin, Robert, Michael, Matthew and Joseph Rametta, John and James Lauer, Mia Rametta and Nicole and Vincent Gengaro. Monroe, N.Y. - Nancy C. Fisher, a retired self-employed housekeeper and lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, November 11, 2002 at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility, Goshen. She was 86. The daughter of the late Fred Kronk and Margaret Lowe Kronk, she was born January 27, 1916 in Ramapo. Nancy was an avid collector and flea market vendor. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Gehler and her husband, John, of Monroe; one brother, Fred D. Kronk of Monroe; one sister, Joan Smogeur and her husband, Clarence, of Naples, Fla.; two granddaughters, Nancy Rogers and her husband, Mark, of Gardiner, and Jean Sexton and her husband, Rome, of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. Willowemoc, N.Y. - Marie Vetter, a lifetime area resident, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at home. Mrs. Vetter was a registered nurse who retired from Community General Hospital in Liberty. She was 85. The daughter of John and Adolphine Franke Braghirol, she was born August 4, 1917 in New York City. She was the widow of Paul Vetter, who passed away in 1974. She was a member of the Tri-Valley Lioness Club. Survivors include her son, Paul J. Vetter and his wife, Kitty, of Willowemoc; one daughter, Pauline Vetter of Wappinger Falls; one brother, John Braghirol of North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Danielle Cornish and Gene Paul Vetter. She was predeceased by two sisters, Adalaide and Marge Braghirol. Funeral service of remembrance will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 14 at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 South Main St., Liberty. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate. New Windsor, N.Y. - Alice M. Gowdey died Monday, November 11, 2002 at home. She was 74. The daughter of the late Edith Parant and Dominick Reggero, she was born May 5, 1928 in Newburgh. She was the widow of Eugene Gowdey. Alice was a 1946 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy; member of the New Windsor Seniors Club; active member of Grace United Methodist Church; and retired office manager for Sears in Newburgh. Survivors include one son, Dr. Eugene A. and his wife, Ana Gowdey, of Novato, Calif.; one daughter, Alice M. Rose and her husband, Thomas, of Ridgefield, Conn.; one brother, Frank Regerro of New Windsor; beloved grandchildren, Jason and Eric Rose and Anja Gowdey. She was predeceased by two brothers, John Reggero and Bill Reggero; and two sisters, Edith Bell and Mary Swaida. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, November 14 at the James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A., Cornwall-on-Hudson, where services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 15. The Rev. Lori Miller will officiate. Entombment will be in the Cedar Hill cemetery. Ulster Heights, N.Y. - Fred R. Lepke, a retired maintenance man for the Town of Fallsburg Golf Course and lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at home. He was 92. The son of Henry and Minnie Ziehl Lepke, he was born June 13, 1910 in Elmhurst. He is the widower of Mae Falk Lepke. Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Rogerson and her husband, John, of Greenfield Park; one son, Donald Lepke and his wife, Colleen, of Ulster Heights; three grandchildren, Kimberly Wright and Tammy Lepke both of Ulster Heights and Brian Rogerson of Greenfield Park; one great-grandchild, Christin Wright of Ulster Heights; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several sisters and brothers, Clarence Lepke, Herbert Lepke Sr., Erna Lepke, and Dorothy Lepke Whalen. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, November 14 at Loucks Funeral Home Inc., Route 209, Ellenville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eileen Daunt officiating. Burial will be in the Fantinekill cemetery, Ellenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ulster Heights United Methodist Church, 1264 Ulster Heights Road, Ellenville, NY 12428. Arrangements were made by the Loucks Funeral Home Inc., Ellenville.
