ELMER BUXTON

Gilbert, Ariz. - Formerly of Newburgh, N.Y. Elmer Buxton, an accountant, auditor/agent for the IRS, Phoenix, Ariz.; formerly with Banking Industry in Newburgh and Poughkeepsie, and in Austin, Texas, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Desert Samaritan Hospital, Mesa, Ariz. He was 53. The son of the late Willie Eastern and Roselean Buxton, he was born September 7, 1949 in Fayetteville, N.C. He earned a B.A. in Business Administration from SUNY Albany University; and an M.B.A., M..S. in Public Administration, Accountancy from Long Island University. He was a certified CPA. He was a former member of Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, Newburgh; Living Word Family Church, Chandler, Ariz.; and member of Black Professional Associates for Federal employees. Survivors include his wife, Bernadette Williams Buxton at home; twin sister, Velmer Buxton of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Johnnie Buxton and his wife, Gwen, of Baltimore, Md.; and one niece, four nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, November 15 in the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, 1528 Plattekill Turnpike, Newburgh. The funeral will begin at 7 p.m., with Pastor, Elder Thermond Herring officiating. The Funeral Cortege will depart Rhodes Funeral Home, 259 Walsh Ave., promptly at 8:30 a.m. Interment will be at 9 a.m., Saturday, November 16 in the Woodlawn cemetery, New Windsor. Arrangements were made by Rhodes Funeral Home, New Windsor.

WILHELMINA "WILLIE" TUCK

Goshen, N.Y. - Wilhelmina "Willie" Tuck entered into rest Monday, November 11, 2002 at 11:11 a.m., at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson. The daughter of the late Corrie and Frank Faust, she was born February 3, 1918 in Columbia, S.C. She grew up, attended schools and joined church there. Her first marriage to William Robinson was blessed with a son, William Frank; and a daughter, Corrie Eugenia, both predeceased her. Willie moved to New York where she met and worked for the late cartoonist, Milton Caniff until his death. She was his office manager, cook, messenger woman, and host for visiting family and friends. She was known as "The Sweetheart of Palm Springs" to many. The Caniffs loved her as family. Goshen became her home when she married the late Otis Tuck. Surviving to cherish her memory are her son's wife, Katie Robinson; her grandchildren, Margo Owen and Renee Robinson-Way; and great-grandchildren, Thurston and Joshua all of Pennsylvania; and her daughter's husband, Willie Phillips; her grandchildren, Milton, Karen and Keith; and great-granddaughter, Kalyn all of South Carolina. There are also in-laws of North Carolina, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a myriad of friends. Her greatest friend and caretaker, Greta Foley remained constant and faithful to the end of her journey. "She may be away, but never to be forgotten." A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 17 at St. John AUMP Church, 207 West Main St., Goshen. Arrangements were made by the Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen.

RUTH A. WEED McKAY

Port Jervis, N.Y. - Ruth A. Weed McKay, a retired employee for the New York State Correctional Facility, Highland, and lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, November 11, 2002 in Goshen. She was 97. The daughter of the late Gary E. VanInwegen and Anna Bell Reed VanInwegen, she was born April 21, 1905 in Port Jervis. She was first the widow of Gilbert W. Weed and second to John McKay. She was a member of the WACS (Women Army Corps.) World War II; Deerpark Reformed Church, Port Jervis; and River Valley Chapter No. 33, O.E.S., Port Jervis. Survivors include one son, Richard G. Weed and his wife, Patricia, of Wilmington, N.C.; two grandchildren, Victoria Weed and her husband, Michael, of Wilmington, N.C., and Vanessa Conti and her husband, Carl, of Utica; six great-grandchildren; and one nephew. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Pamela McKee; brother, Harry E. VanInwegen; and sister, Anna Bell Malone. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 15 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. JOSEPH J. KULIKOWSKI

Westtown, N.Y. - Jospeh J. Kulikowski, a retired machinist at Ideal Wrapping Company, Middletown and longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the Orange County Medical Center, Horton Campus. He was 79. The son of the late Joseph and Anna Pavluch Kulikowski, he was born December 28, 1922 in Cliffside Park, N.J. A Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was a member of the George Smith Unionville American Legion No. 1607; and Our Lady of Scapula Roman Catholic Church, Unionville. A family statement reads, "He was an honorable man, who was a great husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed his family above all." Survivors include his wife, Joan Corcoran Kulikowski at home; three daughters, Maggie Kulikowski of Slate Hill, Mariann Ewanciw and her husband, Mark, of Greenville Township, and Nancy Hughes and her husband, Jim, of Wurtsboro; sister, Josephine Suttick and her husband, Andy, of Hollywood, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Matthew and Joseph DelCantaro, Thomas and Andrew Ewanciw and Michael and Meghan Hughes. JOSEPH POMARICO

Newburgh, N.Y. - Joseph Pomarico entered into rest Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Campbell Hall Nursing Home, Goshen. He was 78. The son of the late John and Helen Russell Pomarico, he was born January 22, 1924 in Beacon. Mr. Pomarico proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1942-46, and received the World War II Victory Medal and the American and Asiatic Pacific Service Medals. He was an umpire; played softball for numerous teams; was involved in a number of youth activities including boys clubs, scouts, and bowling leagues throughout his life; and was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame. A family statement reads, "He loved to bowl, fish, and play softball. He was a very loveable man and will be sadly missed by many people whose lives he touched." Survivors include his three brothers, Francis Pomarico and his wife, Beatrice, of Hyde Park, James Pomarico of Beacon, and Charles Pomarico and his wife, Rosalie, of Beacon; brother-in-law, Lawrence and his wife, Kathleen Picard, of Walden; Francis and his wife, Josephine Picard, of Chemung, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great great-nieces and nephews; and Larry and Mary Picard with whom he shared a home. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Picard Pomarico whom he married on June 26, 1924 in Newburgh. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, November 15 at Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 16 at St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in Joseph's memory, may be made to a charity of one's choice.

GEORGE S. STRYSKO

Hillburn, N.Y. - George S. Strysko died Tuesday, November 12, 2002. He was 69. Born in Mahwah, N.J., George was a 50-year resident of Hillburn. He was a life-member of the Hillburn Fire Department, and Fromm Maxwell DeBaun Post American Legion. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; and one son, George. He is survived by one daughter, Ellen Wollman; two sons, Thomas and Irving; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Stanley, John, and Sigmund; and three sisters, Mary Strysko, Edna Cannizaro, and Frances Tomsic. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, November 14 at the Scarr Funeral Home Inc., Route 202, Suffern. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, November 15 at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern. Burial will be follow in Airmont cemetery in Airmont. JOHN "MICKEY" McGRATH

Warwick, N.Y. - John "Mickey" McGrath, a longtime employee of Ford Motor Company, Mahwah, N.J., entered into rest Tuesday, November 12, 2002 in Orange County Residential Health Care Facility, Goshen after a long bout with Alzheimer's Disease. He was 75. The son of the late Leah and Thomas McGrath, he was born December 22, 1926 in Middletown. He was married to the former Theresa Lempka in April of 1950. Mickey was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Florida; American Legion Post 1250 of Florida; Middletown Elks Club; Twin Streams Hunting Club; and Buckhorn Rod and Gun Club. He was a United States Navy World War II Veteran. His daughter wrote, "Daddy enjoyed life to the fullest. He cherished his wife, Theresa, of 52 years, and his four daughters meant the world to him. He was so very proud of his four grandchildren. Most of his life, daddy worked two jobs: 22 years at Ford Motor Company; and his landscaping side business, to provide for his family. Daddy loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking his pet poodle, "Freddie, " and traveling with his best friend, Theresa." Survivors include his wife, Theresa R. McGrath at home; four daughters, Susan Burns and her husband, Dan, of Hamburg, N.J., JoAnn Dagele and her husband, Frank, of Florida, Rita McInerney and her husband, Tim, of Florida and Michele McGrath and her fiance, Gregg Markey, of Chester; son-in-law, John Kuszek of Warwick; two granddaughters, Katie Kuszek and Ellen Dagele; two grandsons, Michael Kuszek and Chris Dagele; and several nieces and nephews. MARY E. HUNTER HULL

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Mrs. Mary E. Hunter Hull was born May 26, 1929 in Stephens, Ga., to Sterling and Juliet Howard Hunter. On November 9, 2002, she was promoted to heaven from the Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. At a young age, Sister Hull accepted Jesus Christ as savior and was baptized by the Reverend Jack Gresham into the fellowship of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Stephens, Ga. She spent the rest of her life making Jesus Christ Lord. As a product of the Adkins Grove Elementary School in Oglethorpe County, Ga., and Union Baptist Institute High School in Athens, Ga., she had a passion for education. She continued her education at Savannah State College in Savannah, Ga., and was later an elementary school teacher in Lexington, Ga. On October 26, 1950, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. J. L. Hull who predeceased her in June of 1989. To this union, four children were born. In 1956, the family moved to Peekskill, N.Y., where she united with the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. She faithfully served the Mt. Lebanon Church in numerous capacities: deaconess, senior choir member, organizer of hostess committee, supervisor of youth choir, and missionary society and others. She retired after 30 years of service at the VA Hospital in Montrose, N.Y. In 1985, she and her husband, moved to Rayle, Ga. After his passing, she moved to Poughkeepsie in August 1989 to make her home with her children. Later that year, she affiliated with the Beulah Baptist Church, where her son-in-law, the Reverend Jesse V. Bottoms, is pastor. At Beulah, she continued her enthusiastic church work, as president of the senior choir; president of the deaconess; president of the courtesy committee; Sunday School teacher for children's class in the Mid-week day and evening Bible classes; and Mass choir. Sister Hull loved to sing and kept her bags packed in case somebody said, "Let's go." Additionally, she loved to shop, entertain, as well as cook for others. You might say that she loved to talk on the phone. She used the phone to check on the sick, encourage others and also, to keep up with the latest news. She was a former member of the Les Soeurs Amiable Civic Club of Beacon. Mother Hull, as she was fondly called, around Beulah, was a loving, kind, and giving Christian who studied the word and lived it as well. On one occasion, she was instrumental in getting 86 of our members to attend the Central Hudson Baptist Association's Quarterly Session. Cherishing her loving memory are a son, John Henry Hull Sr. of Greensboro, N.C.; three daughters, Jacquette Delorse Bottoms, Gwendolyn Iris Undly, Clarissa Miram Goins, all of Poughkeepsie; two brothers, John H. Hunter and his wife, Nell, of Atlanta, Ga. and Charlie Hunter and his wife, Bonnie, of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Blanche Hall of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Kadis Hull of Greensboro, N.C.; two sons-in-law, J. Howard Goins and the Reverend Jesse V.Bottoms of Poughkeepsie; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a great number of friends and associates. She leaves a special friend, Nan Holman, who gave her a lot of love and attention the last several years of her life. She was predeceased by two brothers, Harvey Hunter and Emerson Hunter; and a son-in-law, Conway Undly. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., Friday, November 15 in the Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine St., Poughkeepsie. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ronald O. Perry Sr. presiding and the Rev. Ronald Grant as eulogist. Interment will be in the Poughkeepsie Rural cemetery. Arrangements were made by Rhodes Funeral Home, New Windsor.

JOHN FRANKLIN WILLIAMS

Saginaw, Mich. - John Franklin Williams, a self-employed electrician and a 50-year resident of the area, died November 24, 2002 in Saginaw, Mich. He was 77. The son of the late Chesley and Mary Jane Cobb-Williams, he was born June 12, 1925 in Red Springs, N.C. He was a member of AME Zion Church and St. Paul Episcopal Church, Saginaw, Mich. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy Coast Guard. Survivors include his wife, Ellen B. Kindred-Williams of Saginaw, Mich.; sons, John F. Skip Williams, M.D. of Washington, D.C. and Ronald Williams of the Bronx; sister, Isadore Williams of the Bronx; two grandsons, Daniel S. Williams and Ronald L. Williams; and cousins, James Rossean, Louis Witherspoon and Odell Lenon. Services were held Monday, December 2, 2002. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery, Middlehope. Arrangements were made by Brutus W. Hodge Funeral Home.

JAMES "JIM" M. CORNWELL

New Paltz, N.Y. - James "Jim" M. Cornwell, district supervisor for Carrols Corporation in Kingston and resident of the area for most of his life, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at home. He was 50. The son of Harry Cornwell of St. Louis, Mo. and New Paltz and the late Joan Starr Cornwell, he was born July 17, 1952 in Fine. He was a member of the Reformed Church of New Paltz. Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Cornwell a home; his father, Harry Cornwell; one son, William Cornwell of New York City; one daughter, Andrea Cornwell of Binghamton; four sisters, Mary Conlon of L.I., Cynthia Terwilliger of Wallkill, Beth Cornwell of New Paltz, and Deborah Christiana of Cartersville, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 8 at the Reformed Church of New Paltz in New Paltz. Contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation Inc., 334 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401. Arrangements were made by the Copeland Funeral Home Inc., New Paltz.

FLORENCE VASTANO

Greenwood Lake, N.Y. - Florence Vastano, a homemaker and two-year resident of the area, entered into rest Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at St. Anthony Hospital. She was 85. The daughter of George and Loretta Elliott, she was born February 26, 1917 in the Bronx. She was the widow of Henry Vastano who passed away in 1973. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church. Survivors include three daughters, Rosemary Garcia of Greenwood Lake, Loretta Fellow of the State of Florida and Kathleen L. Hall of Greenwood Lake; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, December 5 at the Strong-Basile Funeral Home, 4 Oak Street, Greenwood Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 6 at the Holy Rosary Church, Greenwood Lake. Burial will be in St. Raymond cemetery, Bronx. JOSEPH P. BOUCHER SR.

Port Jervis, N.Y. - Joseph P. Boucher Sr., a retired machinist for Daniel Allen, Hainesville, N.J. and a lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, December 2, 2002 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. He was 64. The son of the late Ferris and Caroline Acoveno Boucher, he was born February 20, 1938 in Port Jervis. He was a member of the Port Jervis Fire Department, Fowler, Rescue and Salvage Co. No. 3. Survivors include wife, Cynthia Coleman Boucher at home; son, Joseph Boucher Jr. of Sparrowbush; daughter, Jody Munroe and her husband, John, of Stony Point; sister, Dolares Greenwood of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Anthony and Tiffany Boucher; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 5, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, with the Rev. Joseph Iannone officiating. Interment will be private. MICHAEL F. KUPRYCH

Newburgh, N.Y. - Michael F. Kuprych, president of Kuprych Brothers Vending Service in Newburgh, entered into rest Monday, December 2, 2002 at Castle Point VA Hospital, Beacon. He was 84. The son of John and Mary Gamma, he was born October 22, 1918 in Newburgh. He was a member of the Sigma Lambda Nu Fraternity; Elks Club; and the YMCA. He was a Merchant Marine Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Helen Valusek Kuprych at home; two sons, Gary Kuprych and Paul Kuprych, both of Orange Lake; two brothers, Nicholas Kuprych of Florida and Newburgh, and John Kuprych of Newburgh; three sisters, Stella Williams of Florida and Newburgh, Rose Marion of the Hamlet of Highland and Ann Sarvis of Newburgh; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m., Friday, December 6 at St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in St. Francis cemetery, Newburgh. JEAN F. ROSE STEPHENSON

Jeffersonville, N.Y. - Jean F. Rose Stephenson, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, peacefully entered into rest Monday, December 2, 2002 after a long battle with emphysema at Jeffersonville Adult Home. She was 72. The daughter of Howard and Elsie Lacey Rose, she was born August 4, 1930 in Roscoe. She was the widow of Leo R. Stephenson, whom she met at a square dance and married in 1952. She was a member of Happy Footers Square Dance Club. A family statement reads, "Mom was very talented in art, music and interior decorating." Survivors include one son, Allan L. and his wife, Anna Stephenson, of Jeffersonville; two sisters, Isabel Ackerley of Lew Beach and Evelyn Boyles of Livingston Manor; granddaughter, Laura Ann Stephenson; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Rose and a sister, Florence Applegate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., to 1 p.m., Thursday, December 5, at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home Inc., 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 5, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kathryn Loizeaux officiating. MARY F. BIRDSALL

New Paltz, N.Y. - Mary F. Birdsall, a homemaker and 12-year resident of the area, and prior to that a resident of Newburgh, died Monday, December 2, 2002 in Benedictine Hospital, Kingston. She was 85. The daughter of the late Harry and Edna Miller Klein, she was born October 7, 1917 in Monroe. She was the widow of William S. Birdsall, who died in 1978. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Newburgh, where she also was a member and past president of the Girl's Friendly Society, and presently a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Paltz. Survivors include son, William K. Birdsall of Spring Hill, Fla.; brother, Roger Klein of Stanford; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Klein. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, December 6, at Copeland Funeral Home Inc. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 6, at the funeral home, with Canon Anthony Cayless officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery, Newburgh. ALMA LUST

Monroe, N.Y. - Alma Lust, a retired bookkeeper for Henry Lust Real Estate, Monroe, and a lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern. She was 77. The daughter of the late George and Ida Wetsel Scheuerman, she was born September 24, 1925 in Warwick. She was the widow of Henry Lust Sr. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monroe, and an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Choir and Bible Study Group. Survivors include daughter, Alice Lopez of Slate Hill; son, Henry Lust Jr. of Middletown; daughter, Linda Finch of Palestine, Texas; brothers, Ray Scheuerman of Gilboa and William Scheuerman of Seminole, Florida; sister-in-law, Delores Scheuerman of Rio Grande, N.J.; grandchildren, Tim Lopez, Aimee Lopez, Laurie Coates and Michael Rechner; great-grandchild, Haley Coates; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, December 6, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7 at 10 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Still Road, Monroe, with the Rev. Dr. Dwayne H. Mau officiating. Burial will be in Warwick cemetery, Warwick. Arrangements were made by Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Inc. Funeral Home.

THE REV. H. PAUL MOREHOUSE

Whiting, N.J. - The Rev. H. Paul Morehouse, died at his home Monday, December 2, 2002. He was 78. The son of Harry C. and Hazel Guernsey Morehouse, he was born May 20, 1924 in Cambridge. The Rev. Morehouse graduated cum lauda in 1941 from Albany Academy. He attended Houghton College, Houghton. He served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II as a Chaplains Assistant and was honorably discharged in March 1946. He graduated from Hope College, Holland, Michigan in 1948, and from Western Theological Seminary, Holland, Michigan in 1951. He has served as pastor in the Second Reformed Church, Marion (1951-57); the Reformed Church of Catskill, Catskill (1957-62); the Second Reformed Church of Rotterdam (The Cobblestone Church), Rotterdam (1962-74); the Meadow Hill Reformed Church, Newburgh (1974-80); and the Community Reformed Church, Whiting, N.J. (1980-87). He was instrumental in starting a Reformed Church in Christiansted, St. Croix, United States, Virgin Island in 1991. He was predeceased by his half brother, William of Ravena, and his sister, Mary of Johnston. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two sons, Jim of Bowie, Md., and John of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a daughter, Beth Begley of Sious City, Iowa; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 9, at Community Reformed Church, 30 Lacey Road, Whiting, N.J. 08759. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Reformed Church, 30 Lacey Road, Whiting, N.J. 08759.
